- twertyto, on 02/09/2009, -1/+33In every picture he has the "***** you. I'm Abraham Lincoln" pose. Nice.
- Neworab, on 02/08/2009, -5/+32Now that is a president my friends.
- robbob, on 02/09/2009, -0/+19Enough with the worthless comment boxes in the pictures
- almj, on 02/09/2009, -0/+15Perhaps the manliest beard of all time...
- Neworab, on 02/09/2009, -0/+11NO SHUT THE ***** UP ALRIGHT?
- d2002, on 02/09/2009, -0/+11My favorite Lincoln is the one in Bill & Ted's excellent adventure.
- AmyVernon, on 02/08/2009, -3/+13I'm sorry, but: What?
- asgardshill, on 02/09/2009, -1/+10Its a good thing that he's dead. Otherwise, there'd be a little tear trickling down his cheek if he knew about the pole smokers, kiddie diddlers, and wide stancers that have taken over his political party.
- appleseed1234, on 02/09/2009, -3/+11The man has only one look, for Christ's sake! Blue Steel? Ferrari? Le Tigra? They're the same face! Doesn't anybody notice this? I feel like I'm taking crazy pills! I invented the piano key necktie, I invented it! What have you done, Derek? You've done nothing! NOTHIIIING!
- TrueBlueJP90, on 02/09/2009, -0/+8Anyone else notice Lincoln kind of looks like Bill Nye the Science Guy?
- vitaminz1990, on 02/09/2009, -5/+12Greatest president this country has ever seen.
- TrueBlueJP90, on 02/09/2009, -1/+8Back then the republicans were the liberals.
Titles are just titles... - inactive, on 02/09/2009, -2/+9You make it sound like all Democrats are angels. Both sides are an embarrassment.
I'm also glad he's dead, because he'd be turning 200 on Thursday. And that would be ***** weird. - Norweed, on 02/09/2009, -0/+7More like BABEraham.
- sageerrant, on 02/09/2009, -0/+7Yeaaaah... I'd prefer a skilled politician of circumstance to an unskilled cheater.
He definitely crossed some lines as far as the Constitution is concerned, but the damn thing is a rulebook, not a divine command. Generally speaking, I prefer not being drafted into the military or suspended without notice, but if you're going to do something like that, it's best to at least have a good reason. Regardless of his position on slavery, Lincoln decided that he was responsible for keeping the States united, and did what he felt necessary to acheive that.
Maybe he was wrong, and we would have been better off as two separate nations. But there's no reason to think that, really (just check out the differences between the North and the South—they depended on each other to meet different needs), and a lot of good things came out of his leadership, including huge technological and medical advancements as a result of the war.
Call us sheep if you want, but we're looking at the results. Whether he was a great man or not, Lincoln made some great things happen. - SemiSarcastic, on 02/09/2009, -1/+7Yeah Dude, TED ROOSEVELT FTW!!!!!11!!!
- alanocu, on 02/08/2009, -2/+8bradspangler, you're out of your mind.
- relaxeder, on 04/17/2009, -0/+5WHOA, Abe, buddy, put your beard back on my friend.
- RaulMuadDib, on 02/09/2009, -0/+4Big gloves?
- lunachique, on 02/09/2009, -2/+6I always felt sad for the poor guy. Even before he was shot he had so much on his shoulders, not to mention his son's tragic passing and his wife's mental breakdown as a result.
- Deveak, on 02/09/2009, -0/+4Tough times can create great men, but it can also break them.
- jgray1975, on 02/09/2009, -0/+3Huge gloves?
- Magnesious, on 02/09/2009, -1/+4Lincoln looking HIP! http://www.flickr.com/photos/library_of_congress/3 ...
- lancedice, on 02/09/2009, -0/+3Strange, no hat.
- Swarms, on 02/09/2009, -2/+5"..But honey, we already bought the tickets" - Abraham Lincoln, April 15, 1865.
- vitaminz1990, on 02/09/2009, -1/+4I know his actual history. I know he suspended habeas corpus and spent money without congress's approval. But he had to do what he had to do in order to preserve the Union. I think he handled himself quite gracefully considering what he was given when he took his first oath. No other president had such a difficult obstacle to overcome when taking their first oath. And yes, the risk of the country splitting up because of a civil war was far worse than the Great Depression so you can't say FDR.
- appleseed1234, on 02/09/2009, -0/+3Rumor has it there was some recorded audio of Lincoln, but it was either destroyed when Edison attempted to play it back once the technology was developed, or it is still hidden.
- Dundasbro, on 02/09/2009, -0/+3People are going to have a love or hate affair with the single, solitary symbol of power in the country over the balanced and several-minded congress or judiciary. Its a fact of life, humans are probably more naturally inclined to view leadership as a singular entity if you are looking for a reason.
- inactive, on 02/09/2009, -0/+3I was thinking he looks like a young Charles Foster Kane.
- SaintJerome, on 02/09/2009, -0/+3"Lincoln suspended habeas corpus."
I must say it again, THIS NEVER HAPPENED. Congress did it, as it is in their Constitutional authority. It wasn't wrong, and is in fact exactly the reason why the Constitution gives Congress the authority to declare martial war in a national emergency. - twertyto, on 02/09/2009, -0/+3Dude. Knock that ***** off.
- mst3kcrow, on 02/09/2009, -0/+3Is it just me or does Robert Lincoln look like Leonardo DiCaprio; especially as Howard Hughes?
- Bigmodirty, on 02/09/2009, -2/+5I don't know why your getting dugg down, that was flawless.
- vitaminz1990, on 02/09/2009, -1/+4Name someone better.
- SaintJerome, on 02/09/2009, -0/+2HE DIDN'T SUSPENT HABEAS CORPUS. Holy ***** you racists are so sure you know history. He never suspended habeas corpus because the President doesn't have that power. Congress did, which is specifically in their power under the Constitution, if you would ever actually take the time to read it.
- jc7012, on 02/09/2009, -2/+4That chin alone could have been president, AMIRITE?
- vitaminz1990, on 02/10/2009, -0/+2@twertyto
I know he took office DURING the Great Depression. Hence the reason I said "No other president had such a difficult obstacle to overcome when taking their first oath". - Charlotte_Web, on 02/09/2009, -0/+2brad is one of the Van Buren boys...
- tidu, on 02/09/2009, -0/+2They're so stubborn and hard to get rid of, it gets really old after about 5 seconds
- mattmacneil, on 02/09/2009, -0/+2you know what they say about big hands.
- sageerrant, on 02/09/2009, -0/+2Whoosh much, guys?
- SaintJerome, on 02/09/2009, -0/+2Enough of this *****. He wasn't a tyrant, and he didn't violate anyone's civil rights. HE didn't suspend habeas corpus, congress did. If HE did, it would have been unconstitutional and therefore a violation of civil rights. The fact is the Constitution itself gives congress the right to suspect habeas corpus. Since it was them who did it and not the President (unlike the Bush admin, who truly did violate civil liberties) therefore there cannot have been a violation of civil rights, as the Constitution specifically allows it. You can argue that it shouldn't be part of the Constitution, but you can't criticize the Congress (and especially not the President who didn't have the power to do it in the first place) for asserting their Constitutional power as our elected representatives.
Learn some history and government. - 007brendan, on 02/09/2009, -0/+2No, liberals didn't exist. There were the Statist Democrats/Hamiltonians and the Monarchist Whigs. And then there was the Republicans.
- LiquidSpark, on 02/09/2009, -3/+5I'm not a Lincoln fanboy but the pictures where he's almost smiling are really nice. He always looks so serious in other pics I've seen of him.
- urbanarson, on 02/09/2009, -3/+5The President is not a King.
The US electorate seems to believe that the office of President is equivalent to a King or some other monarch. This isn’t the case. POTUS (President of the United States) is a position in the executive branch of the federal government. He is not even elected by the people (the Electoral College elect the POTUS). The President’s most important powers are selecting the Judiciary (with Congressional approval), sitting as Commander in Chief of the military, and vetoing Congressionally approved bills before they become law as a check to their power. Nothing more.
This whole President worship thing started when Abraham Lincoln abused his executive office power, declared himself dictator, suspended the writ of Habeas Corpus, jailed his dissenters and started an unnecessary war with the Confederate States of America which claimed the lives of over 600,000 Americans. Abraham Lincoln’s Constitutional violations made George W. Bush look like Thomas Jefferson, yet he is still the most celebrated POTUS of all time. He has an enormous monument in DC, he’s on the penny and the $5 bill, and no one even knows about the mock-dictatorship he helmed for 4 years during the Civil War. His Kingly image has been wiped clean.

- fluidfoundation, on 02/09/2009, -0/+2Stop starting the slow clap already.
- Dtarvoigd, on 02/09/2009, -1/+3Isn't it curious none of the pictures have him in his famous top hat? Or did someone just make that up?
