- cheez, on 10/12/2007, -3/+22i bet his mom is pissed
- ogletree, on 10/12/2007, -3/+19That looked staged. He was by himself why would he show anybody that tape. It looked a bit over acted.
- tjg66, on 10/12/2007, -5/+160WN3D, stupid kid doesn't deserve an ibook.
- haxx4, on 10/12/2007, -2/+13Now there's no chance of getting in on that warranty...
- terinjokes, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10yes, I the saw that sound.
- complexigon, on 10/12/2007, -3/+12This is a perfect example of a story that deserves to be buried with the reason "Ok, This is Lame".
- allthewhile, on 10/12/2007, -4/+13I call bs.
1. When it starts falling he doesn't grab at it with his left hand. His left hand literally flies up into the air.
2. He doesn't immediately see if it works. If I just dropped all that cash on it, the first thing I would do would be to see if it still works, not worry about the camera on my other computer.
3. The acting is crap. Doesn't seem real. - romeyinfc, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Too bad he didn't accidentally kick the screen in as well.
- rocke86, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8Lets all hope his mom isn't one of those super mothers and sues Apple for the slippery case. I would hate to see ugly rubberized sides put on those nice looking laptops.
- Inferno52386, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Your punctuation and grammar make you sound like the fool.
- roquetin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5(sarc) He's so stupid, it's so fake, what a dummy!(/sarc)
If you find yourself making these comments after they've already been said once, YOU, my friend, are a moron. - kivimaki, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Everyone is a little too eager to debunk this.
Here is the thread on Broadbandreports.com (don't know why he would be posting there):

And a link to a Flickr photoset:

Pretty elaborate fake just to become "The biggest moron on the Internet." - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -6/+10That was completly acted out....
I books turn off and lock up when dropped so it didnt get hurt. - rhamej, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5That looks very staged. I don't buy it.
- mrASSMAN, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7I feel sorry for the poor iBook :'(
- Nells, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3hehe, well, ok, it seemed real.
- johnjreiser, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4When I was 14 I had a 16mHz 386 in a clunky old full-size tower case. Kids shouldn't be given expensive things until they realize the responsibilities of ownership. He dropped it because his fingers were buttery - I wouldn't dare dream of eating or drinking around my Macbook Pro because I have not only respect for the device and the desire to keep it clean but I'm also limiting the potential for accidents like this from occuring.
- johnjreiser, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Look into the eyes of a fool
http://flickr.com/photos/coyotekolb/135738459/
Also, if I were this kid's parent, all his techie gifts like that new cameraphone would be taken away.
"This is why we can't have nice things." - galliva, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3FAKE
- mrASSMAN, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3"I just tried to use thermal paste to glue the lcd back.
thermal paste = NOT GLUE!
and I want to take it ot the apple sotre, but im 14 and my parents.. if i tell them warranty will cover it, all will be fien but otherwise i'm in DEEP *****."
I can't help but laugh.. - sapo916, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Letting go is how you drop stuff.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Here is the video followup. I encoded it badly so it's not that high of quality. It's a bit long but has lots of information. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zx_Q4PyOOiM
- Daisuke, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5god, just when I thought flames were impossible on an "article" such as this...
- johnjreiser, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Slippery case? He admitted in the thread linked to in the YouTube comments that he was eating buttery popcorn. Idiot.
- johnjreiser, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2They deserve a clunky desktop that has to be in a communal room in the house. Parents love to let their kids run free, then blame technology/gaming/internet when the little ***** bring guns to school or meet up with pedos. Police your kids; give them the freedom to express themselves and grow, but not enough to endanger themselves or others.
- cfuentea, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2lame story, no digg
- JustinGN, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4I have accidentally dropped my iBook down a flight of stairs, monitor up and open, iBook on. When I ran down to pick it up, all I had to do was reboot it, and voila, back to normal. Apple still takes it under warranty, too.
- Lumiras, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4God, how fake can a video be?
- dixonr315, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Funny but staged. Never see the iBook hit the ground, could have had a pillow or something for it to fall on while someone else dropped something for the sound, or just added the drop noise in after. Also as someone else mentioned I think the motion sensors power off the HD if it senses the drop motion.
- stupidStan, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3no, if you look what mrASSMAN posted, it is pretty well finished... doesnt say much for apple durability. I have dropped my klunky dell many times and it still works. Looks like this kid took a hammer to that iBook
- avocadobeandip, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2@StupidStan
I'm sure yor Dell has withstood being dropped while open, onto it's corner, from five feet plenty of times. Give me a break about "Apple durability." It's called gravity, and it'll ***** up any machine. - Dakoman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1the aftermath - http://flickr.com/photos/coyotekolb/sets/72157594200648108/
- Yonson, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2While this is totally fake, I know how that feels. I've lost count of how many times I've thought I broke some expensive hardware and sit there thinking "Oh *****." Luckily, it's never actually broken.
- FluffyArmada, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1If you look at the flickr photos posted near the top of the comments, you can clearly see it's an iBook. :)
- wingzinco, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Obviously fake, he lets go of it. Ass.
- contradictator, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Ok buddy, go visit all those countless websites where techs share horror stories of people trying to jam CDs into their floppy drives, or trying to install Windows ME on their CAT (or just buying WinMe for that matter), then come back with your lame-ass anti-mac trolling.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I am the kid in the video. I have recorded a folllow up to this with a lot more information and it will be uploaded to youtube within the next hour.
- narzy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1oh apple will see it no doubt, I'm sure some good Samaritan will send them links to the video, photo set and forum post.
- sapo916, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Im a regular on the forum that this kid posts on... its a real drop and its unfortunate since he is ***** because of this. Funny guy, this is about the third time he made a new account on the forums because he was demolished for being a dumbass kid... but now hes starting highschool so we will see what happens now. I remember one post where some kid was I guess fairly serious about bringing a gun to school and he asked what he should do... doi doi. I mean hell, he even posted a video about him drinking his first cup of coffee... who cares?
- MacGeekGuy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I agree... my iBook has even fallen out of a crappy backpack onto the sidewalk and was only mildly worse for wear. Also, if you look at those "aftermath" pics - if they're even really linked to this incident, are all easily repaired. The keyboard is designed to pop off like that, the battery is shown sticking out - cos it's in the unlocked position, and the damage to the case above the battery compartment is easily snapped back into place. Yeah, I'm sorry about his luck... but I'd be shocked to find it didn't still work just fine after that.
- cduquette, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I read his thread at BBR and watched the video a few times. First, as said earlier, the kid's a moron. It does look like he dropped it on purpose. The hand holding the side of the LCD doesn't seem to be holding it at all. If he really dropped it, and it meant something to him, then his reflexes would kick in and he would have made an effort to save itt. Instead he seems to let the iBook slip away and raises his hands. I hope Apple sees this video when his mom is yelling at Apple to replace this iBook free of charge.
- Inferno52386, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1By the looks of that screen I'd say iBook. All the macbooks I've ever seen are all widescreen.
- chucker, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2The best thing about this is all the idiotic digg users posting "that's what you get for buying a Mac", because this gives a nice boost for my block list.
- mrASSMAN, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2It's not.

Pwnt by Gravity. - contradictator, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3I'm too tired to come up with another "shut up, you stupid troll you" comment, so just scroll up a bit for the one I left for your other, equally sad brethren.
- MiDri, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Same here, only last time... when I looked down at my iPod G5's screen... to my dismay... it was in a thousand little pieces...
- alej744, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1That's cuz you're an old guy, an iBook is exactly what kids deserve
- paulwilde, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1@WernerCD,
Welcome to 1999. - alej744, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1If you read the title of this story, you might notice it's a ***** iBook.
