- Harabeck, on 10/12/2007, -2/+126Hey, it was short and right to the point. Some of these videos have 5 minutes of crap you don't want to see.
- halleyscomet, on 10/12/2007, -2/+99@hypoh
I find it interesting that you're being dugg down for your comment, when you are in fact, right.
I saw a segment on TV a while back that included some stills from this video. I didn't know the entire video was online now.
The jumper in question is, in fact, deceased, but the fall was not the direct result of his death.
You'll notice that the initial point of impact when he lands is his back.
He broke his back in the fall, and was paralyzed form the chest down. Fortunately, he still had the use of his arms, and doctors gave him a 10% chance of regaining some sensation in his lower body. The spinal column was not _completely_ severed, but it was badly compressed.
He had four surgeries in six months, and was still a long way from having a shot to walk again, or at least have bladder control. It was during the recovery from the fourth surgery that he did the interview I saw on TV.
In the end, he died as the result of a staff infection. The fifth surgery, the one that was supposed to alleviate some of the pressure compressing what was left of his spinal cord, did not go as well as had been hoped. They amputated one of his legs in a desperate bid to save him, but it didn't help. He ended up on a respirator because of the infection. His parents decided to pull the plug. - Machismo, on 10/12/2007, -9/+100He chose... poorly.
- t0ny, on 10/12/2007, -9/+74For one dont use "The title says it all." and two its pointless if you are going to say other stuff after it.
- DoctaStooge, on 10/12/2007, -1/+59I guess he's not the one...
and only if he had leaned forward a little bit before landing on the building... - ThrasherC, on 10/12/2007, -4/+61Why in the world did you post all of that? Nobody wants to read your synopsis of a scene from the Matrix.
- Klarth, on 10/12/2007, -2/+51*****, did anyone else look at the thumbnail and think that the story was talking about the two high-rises in the background?
- tidu, on 10/12/2007, -4/+52That was a poor decision.
- DangerMouse9, on 10/12/2007, -5/+49You win again gravity!
- SadPanda, on 10/12/2007, -10/+39hah...the story took longer to read and load than to watch, funny though.
- mrnukem, on 10/12/2007, -4/+32Mr. Darwin clean up on Aisle 3
- squirrelza, on 10/12/2007, -3/+29"WHY DIDN'T YOU STOP THE CAMERA AND HELP HIM? HE DIED BECAUSE OF YOU!" "Sorry, I thought he was going to live without my help. I decided to keep on rolling so I can get a video on YouTube with 100 000 views".
- canadianguy33, on 10/12/2007, -0/+26You dumbass. This guy is dead and you're making ads from his death video.
- h2gofast, on 10/12/2007, -1/+26reminds me of a red-neck joke.
Q: What are a red-neck's last words?
A: Hey y'all, watch this. - eplawless, on 10/12/2007, -8/+32what's implied is that anyone who tries to jump from building to building like that, regardless of whether it's "le parkour" or not, is a jackass
- atlantean, on 10/12/2007, -6/+29Normally when there's a Digg article I don't like I tend to ignore it and move on to the next. That said, some of the comments on this article have shocked me. As is stated in other Digg comments, as well as on YouTube, the kid ultimately died as a result of his misjudgement. That people can laugh at the video, or praise it as "natural selection in practice" is pretty disgusting.
- ozziegt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+22The kid is dead.
- dclowd9901, on 10/12/2007, -5/+27Also, make sure user Title Says It All is around to approve the message.
- robdiggity, on 10/12/2007, -1/+21actually it's:
"Here man, hold my beer." - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+22Actually, he would have been. It's his theory in action!
- ozziegt, on 10/12/2007, -2/+20That's because he broke his back and was paralyzed from the chest down. I doubt anyone would move very much after that...
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+19And remove stupid acronyms from posts automatically as well.
- rawkes, on 10/12/2007, -3/+19he didn't move much when he hit the floor, ouchies!
- halleyscomet, on 10/12/2007, -4/+20@foobar5892
Read my post above. While he didn't die immediately, he did die as a result of the fall.
So in a way, you got your wish. Sorry it wasn't gory enough for you. - squirrelza, on 10/12/2007, -1/+17With a first jump like that, I don't think he will be seeing a second
- halleyscomet, on 10/12/2007, -0/+16@sonaboy
No, it's not a movie shoot.
A movie shoot would have used safety equipment, so if the stunt man fell, he wouldn't be KILLED, like this kid was.
You made an ad for your site featuring an injury that lead to a man's death.
Congratulations, you have no conscience and no soul. - fernandez, on 10/12/2007, -3/+16***** thats horrible, its all fun and games till you realise he died from it
- SenorPez, on 10/12/2007, -2/+13Title says it all. But I'm going to ramble on anyway.
They should start to filter TSIA. Or convert it to some random string. - dattaway, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12I fell from a tower that tall two years ago. Badly bruised feet, femur broke in two butchering my leg like a slaughtered deer, major concussion, and a busted lip. Total hospital costs for two weeks: $62,000. Out of work for two months. Fortunately, it was an on the job injury and work comp covered it all.
That kid is going to be messed up for life. - Alphateam, on 10/12/2007, -5/+16Ya I thought so too. I was ready to watch a splat.
- Jackanapes, on 10/12/2007, -5/+16Nobody ever makes their first jump.
- GoatJuggler, on 10/12/2007, -2/+13@halleyscomet
staff infection = malpractice
staph infection = staphylococcus bacteria - scrimaxinc, on 10/12/2007, -6/+16Yea this is the 3rd time Ive seen this on digg.
If you guys want to see some amazing urban ninja vids check out "Parkour" on YouTube, and this is my favorite video......
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=htWKMO8WeVE
....it's some young kid from estonia that runs up walls damn near 20 feet. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10My comment was meant to be sarcastic. But I guess the harm has already been done.
- foomojive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9not funny. this guy died as an indirect result of his injuries. i would be laughing if he was ok after he fell.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9Maybe he was trying out for the parkour video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s7lCblSvu9A - SuperCUBE, on 10/12/2007, -8/+17Charles Darwin would not have been impressed.
- mr.hostility, on 10/12/2007, -6/+15Why do they always turn off the camera? Nothing pisses me off more. Keep the film rolling, and let's see what happened to this moron.
- dexim, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10OK, go for it, and make sure you have someone tape it.
- angulion, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Is it just me who is starting to get tired of all the idiots who shout FAKE!!! to every clip on Youtube and now here on digg too?
- ThrasherC, on 10/12/2007, -3/+11Urban Ninja he is not.
- converge, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7if you had read the comments you would know he died.
- heavyal, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Several comments here and on the youtube post indicate that this guy died, but there are no links or any other information posted that could validate this claim.
On a personal note, I was 14 when I climbed a tree on the property I grew up on that was taller than this building .. about 2 thirds of the way up I grabbed a branch that was not stable and ended up falling straight down into the ravine below the tree .. probably about 25 feet or so. I was slowed a bit by some of the other branches whacking me on the way down but I still ended up with bruises and a fractured ankle.
I imagine that surviving such a fall as the one shown here would not be impossible, but taking into account the trajectory and that it appears he landed on his back rather than first his feet I would surmise that one could actually have their back broken by such a fall. Still, actual links to pertinent information on this particular vid would be nice. - fak3r, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9"I'll take 'Thinning the herd' for 400$ Alex!"
- mofotronimus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7anyone think this guy was inspired by all those free-running videos on youtube?
- hypoh, on 10/12/2007, -44/+51he dead
- jstn, on 10/12/2007, -6/+11This is why digg sucks. First off, some idiot jumping off a bridge is hardly news worthy, secondly, it's been posted here so many times that digg is starting to make /. look good.
Double U, Tee, F!! - lukeamotion, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7well everyone seems to say he died, but no one actually knows the guy. If he died it's horrible insensitive to post the death video on the Internet.
- bitcloud, on 10/12/2007, -10/+15I understood the implication...
thats why I commented... if only we had videos of jackie chan's early days punching blocks of wood and recoiling with pain when they don't break...
People try things.. sometimes they succeed.. sometimes they fail (with hilarious results) but that doesn't mean that everything is an episode of jackass (as was the submitters implication) - twertyto, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5When I saw this on the video front page I knew I had seen this before. I was about to move on but then it came to mind that others have probably seen it too and would come in to the comments page crying like a little bitch about it. So the only reason I came here was to find the first person I saw do this and tell them to STFU.
So here it is. We don't care that you've seen this before. Please....
