- lowlywrm, on 11/24/2008, -0/+50Dugg for the father's quote: "I don't know what to say to the family. I really should kill myself."
- manzplan, on 11/24/2008, -0/+34some people are severely traumatized over the loss of a pet.. others use it as an excuse to kill.
- IRAcarbombs, on 11/24/2008, -0/+33I had a pet hamster that died when i was young ..... i turned out ok - Jefferey Dalmer
- drakia, on 11/24/2008, -1/+23OUTRAGEOUS!
"An" doesn't go before "Japanese" - inactive, on 11/24/2008, -0/+20This was the same guy using "The dog at my homework" line in college...
- GUTTS, on 11/24/2008, -0/+16FTA - "I want to tell my son to punish himself and not to be so lacking in shame as to stay alive," he said. "I don't know what to say to the family. I really should kill myself."
Ahh the ways of the Samurai are the ways honor. Seppuku ftw hai!! - Surferess, on 11/24/2008, -0/+16Obviously, the only option.
- inactive, on 11/24/2008, -0/+12I had a Double "R" Bar-Burger for lunch today... It tasted, well pretty good. After I added the condiments of my choice.
- kisforkat, on 11/24/2008, -3/+14PETA will probably canonize him.
- Surferess, on 11/24/2008, -1/+12Oh, yeah, I didn't get that, I just dugg him up b/c I was glad he had a good lunch. lol
- jimboredford, on 11/24/2008, -0/+9"I want to tell my son to punish himself and not to be so lacking in shame as to stay alive," he said. "I don't know what to say to the family. I really should kill myself."
Now that's the kind of old school Japanese ideology I like reading about. If he does kill himself I can only hope he does it by falling on his own sword.
"So lacking in shame as to stay alive." That is f'n classic. At what level of shame does it become appropriate to kill oneself? Caught cheating on your wife? Losing a baseball game? Wetting the bed? Posting old news on digg? - askantik, on 11/24/2008, -0/+9Dogs are often times much more likeable than humans, so I don't agree with "it was a dog." However, no matter who it was, it happened when he was 12-- plus even if it happened yesterday, it's not a reasonable excuse.

This is a deeply rooted tradition in Japanese culture. Killing himself is the only way for him to save face. It's a very honorable and respectable thing to do to save the rest of his family embarrassment. - pintomp3, on 11/24/2008, -0/+7and if the perpetrator had a gun, he could have killed more people. the argument goes both ways.
- inactive, on 11/24/2008, -0/+7Actually, I thought that really was representative of the "old school" ways in Japan. Suicide has always been closely interrelated in Japan with honor and especially Family honor.
- Poseur117, on 11/24/2008, -0/+6Maybe his dog ate his conscience.
- btschul, on 11/24/2008, -1/+7I think this is a great example of why we need to ban pets. They obviously cause people to go on killing sprees. Hillary Clinton, you and Jack Thompson need to team up and get right on that.
- borez, on 11/24/2008, -0/+6I totally empathise with this man. I lost both my parents very young and I myself went on a three day killing spree around my local area. It retrospect, I think it really helped me deal with the pain.
- inactive, on 11/24/2008, -1/+6I blame hentai for my deviant sexual interests
- Clumber, on 11/25/2008, -0/+4Now if only we could put PETA into a canon....
- Noliaboy75, on 11/24/2008, -0/+4I think that alibi was taken by the son of sam....
- EvilFerret, on 11/24/2008, -0/+4Hell I still use that excuse at work. Difference is my dog really did eat a report I brought home, when I told them they just laughed at me. :(
- EvilFerret, on 11/24/2008, -0/+4I don't know how people still survive with boring old Hustler. If I decided to murder somebody, I'll just plead insanity....I just have to say "Just look at my internet history on my computer and you'll see how ***** up I am". Of course I've been in the psych ward twice in 5yrs, that might convince them too..... Hmm.
- o0joshua0o, on 11/24/2008, -0/+4Imagine the scene:
An action hero is holding this guy out a 7 story window by just his collar. The guys says "why are you doing this? Why?!?" The hero takes a puff of his cigarette with his other hand and says "I had a dog, too, dirtbag". - kingmanic, on 11/24/2008, -0/+4Ahh the "everybody but me" school of culpability.
- jitterbits, on 11/25/2008, -0/+3My name is Takeshi Koizumi.
You killed my doggy.
Prepare to die! - AmyVernon, on 11/24/2008, -0/+3@Brokeback - had to digg you up for your shout's Son of Sam reference. Wonder how many diggers even know what that means.
- jitterbits, on 11/25/2008, -0/+3When it comes to killing, mimes should always be first.
- Meocross, on 11/24/2008, -0/+3The kid liked the dog that much? must have been one oblivious family.
- Meocross, on 11/24/2008, -0/+2Ding Ding Ding.
- inactive, on 11/24/2008, -2/+4When my Giga Pet died, I took it out on a Sims animal shelter.
- serif69, on 11/24/2008, -1/+3He is an hero
- jitterbits, on 11/25/2008, -0/+2Well, he killed or tried to kill a few people. Therefore, I think it's pretty safe to assume that yes, he is *THAT* ***** up.
- jitterbits, on 11/25/2008, -0/+2What?
I read this three times (it's a slow day) and I still can't figure out what your point was, if you did, in fact, even have one. - Clumber, on 11/25/2008, -0/+2other way 'round, though. The continuously barking dog drove Berkowitz to kill (according to defense).
In this case, the LACK of the continuously barking dog drove Takeshi to kill. I am sure it is in the Policies and Procedures handbook somewhere.... - ohnoerino, on 11/24/2008, -1/+3This has A Current Affair written all over it.
- inactive, on 11/24/2008, -0/+2I've had a lot of animals die, sometimes in very horrible ways, I once had a cat that got caught on our electric fencing and was electrocuted to death. I just recently made the decision to euthanize my cat that had leukemia and 2 others. I once even killed a squirrel by feeding it chocolate with alumina foil left on, though I was only 5. And I don't have an urge to kill people. Basically, this man was a very sick man to begin with and for people as unstable as him, it only takes something small to set them off. Some people are just plain crazy.
- Clumber, on 11/25/2008, -0/+2Wait... so if you lost your parents, did you run around killing dogs? Or am i naive about the correct order....? Maybe Mimes are next, before dogs....
- Branyers, on 11/24/2008, -1/+3If only Wall Street and the Big 3 said this.
- chooter, on 11/24/2008, -0/+2This is basically the plot of PARANOIA AGENT...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paranoia_Agent - slonrgjon, on 11/24/2008, -1/+2"I must avenge my dog's honor!"
- Clumber, on 11/25/2008, -0/+1or well.. you know, a sane(r) family. Saner than son.
(and don't take that as agreement to euth-ing dogs that bark constantly. Easily trainable, blah blah....)
Heck, toss some O.D.'ed on Twinkies in the defense theory and let's rumble! - MattB123, on 11/24/2008, -1/+2Moral of the story? Get your kid a pet rock.
- OwdenBowden, on 11/24/2008, -1/+2What excuse? Traumatized is Traumatized. Past, Present or Future.
- randypanda, on 11/30/2008, -0/+1OBVIOUSLY you have never been to Japan and learned of HONOR!!!
- OwdenBowden, on 11/24/2008, -0/+1Double-R-Bar Burger from Roy Rogers?
- RooX, on 11/24/2008, -1/+2thats hardcore.. your cat had leukemia for 2 years, so you have it put down, AND had 2 more killed at the same time.
Vet having a euthanize one, get 2 free sort of thing? - spawnfree, on 11/25/2008, -0/+1great, ban them.
the nutters will grab a big kitchen knife instead.
you want to have a knife fight with a nutter? if you are lucky enough to be near a knife when one comes for you, that is. - manjar, on 11/24/2008, -1/+1Oh, man, "Dahmer", so close
