I can verify that such things happen ALL the time at every PC repair shop. It doesn't matter where you take it, if a tech has 5 minutes of down time while waiting for patches or scans to finish, he's can scan the drive for pictures and videos. Not everyone does it, but there's at least one guy in every shop who does.
If you keep videos and pictures of yourself on a computer you should make damn sure that you keep them encrypted. There's lots of free software for encrypting and password protecting files and folders. Make sure you use it on anything "sensitive". Little or no inconvenience to you, and more than enough to deter an idle looky-loo
Oh and make sure you wipe your memory cards too. Just hitting "delete" on your camera doesn't really remove the image from the card. You need to overwrite the whole card. Not sure if a camera's "Format" option would do that or not. I don't think so because that process is way too quick.
