Informational Cascades Prove Tipping Points Exist
danzarrella.com — Interesting post showing that social networking and viral marketing are not any different than how ancient societies decided which plants were safe to eat! People are people and the only thing that has changed is what we are deciding on, but not how we decide it...

The pictures of waterfalls were not exactly relevant - sourwood, on 04/04/2008, -0/+9I like waterfalls.
- Zarokima, on 04/05/2008, -1/+2You have a compelling argument. I think I may like waterfalls, too.
- danzarrella, on 04/04/2008, -0/+6they're cascades, you know like water cascades instead of information cascades? too subtle?
- CTK14A, on 04/05/2008, -0/+5For anyone who hasn't already read it, and who is interested in discovering more about the hive mentality of human beings, I recommend Kevin Kelly's book 'Out of Control: The New Biology of Machines' -- the book's content is available entirely online.

- McWriter, on 04/08/2008, -0/+0Nice article Dan. I think the waterfalls were appropriate and not too subtle. I understood the illustration right away. I think your article does a great job of illustrating how and why people make certain decisions. The use of social media and viral campaigns is incredibly successful. It's just going to take more time for alot of the staunch, narrow minded, 'hard core' traditional marketing folks to come around and embrace it. Your article will help though...if you can get them to read it! :)
