- Talphin, on 01/28/2009, -3/+149My wife made me buy her a Dyson. She swears by it. Every time she vacuums a room, she brings the bin over to show me and says "LOOK!!! Look what was in the carpet of ONE room!!"... And to that I reply "Good. Now, go vacuum the next room and see how much is in there!"... heh silly women.
- youliveinfear, on 01/28/2009, -1/+40worth..every..penny. I'm not kidding. If you have pets especially. I vacuumed a room twice with my old bag vacuum, then brought the dyson in..In one pass, the thing was 1/2 full.
- Flooded, on 01/28/2009, -1/+38You get what you pay for. My Dyson is the best vacuum I've ever owned.
- Llanowar, on 01/29/2009, -3/+39Except that carpet is usually warmer. Feels better on bare feet. And can look quite a bit better in many rooms.
Vinyl, carpet and laminate/hardwood all have their own uses. - blakbot, on 01/28/2009, -5/+39As an entrepreneur myself, I understand the true meaning of perseverance; you WILL be knocked down many, many times b4 you can become successful.........I wouldn't have it any other way. Kudos to Mr. Dyson. May the entrepreneurial spirit live on forever......
- pitchblack16, on 01/28/2009, -1/+25I guess, the moral of the story is, even though your in debt up to your head, have multiple lawsuits against...you should absolutely never give up on your dream.
- Miche1987, on 01/29/2009, -2/+25Dugg for "The King of Suck".
- techobo, on 01/29/2009, -2/+23Miles Dyson - Terminators
James Dyson - Bagless Vacuum Cleaners
Miles > James - DarkerMaster, on 01/29/2009, -2/+22YOU WIN!
- inactive, on 01/29/2009, -4/+22Dirt floors FTW!
- rwallen, on 01/29/2009, -1/+18Laminate floors (fake wood) looks so bad. Everyone here in AZ that bought a house and tried to 'fix it' up to sell it for massive profits just ripped out the carpet and put in cheap laminate floors. Ugh so tacky.
- inajeep, on 01/28/2009, -1/+17No, that article didn't suck.
- phosphite, on 01/28/2009, -11/+27It might be slightly off-topic, but carpet is so 80's, hardwood floors or even laminate/floating floor kicks its ass in almost every way!
- bipolarruledout, on 01/29/2009, -3/+17I have the special edition Kanye West dyson; it sucks ever harder.
- adikt, on 01/29/2009, -0/+12Actually carpet is very 70's. That is when the prices on wall to wall dropped to become affordable for the middle class, And as a result they covered oak hardwoods with cheap shag. I tore up all the carpet in my house after I bought it to expose beautiful hardwoods. I had to replace 2 square feet of dog piss stained area, but it was worth it. Now all I need is a broom and dustpan.
- inactive, on 01/29/2009, -3/+13Actually after living with hardwood floors, I can't wait to move and go back to carpet. Hardwood floors suck majorly as they collect dust and transfer it all to the bottom of your feet as you walk across it. They're also cold and hard and uncomfortable if you ever need to sit on the floor. AND they creak and crack with every step.
Do I need to continue? - milkmage, on 01/29/2009, -0/+10they're not like products.. using a shopvac in your living room is like taking the kids to school in a cement mixer.
- inactive, on 01/29/2009, -0/+9My mom would love this article..
if she wasn't busy doing my laundry - agentinfinite, on 01/28/2009, -3/+11Dysons are awesome. My parents have one and it kicks ass.
- bbtrev, on 01/29/2009, -0/+8I totally have to disagree with you Lucas123. The Dyson's are like nothing else out there. There are competing vacuums out there that say they are as good as a Dyson, but they simply are not. If you can afford a Dyson, you will never need or want another vacuum.
- kungfoolou, on 01/29/2009, -0/+8So easy to pick out the comments of those who don't clean up their homes, or at least don't do it well. I never cared about vacuum cleaners before, but with 2 cats and 2 dogs, my wife's 4+yr old dyson has proven to be incredible. Sure, you can save money and get a cheap one. Those cheap ones have lasted me 3 yrs tops. If it is that important to you, the dyson is a great piece of machinery. There is a reason why all major vacuum manufacturers have released look-alikes in the past several years. Those are, of course, just look-alikes, never a work-alike. Now if we just had someone take that much initiative towards energy research.
- inactive, on 01/29/2009, -1/+9Also bad acoustics, lots of cold reverb and echo, no dampening.
But fashion was never meant to be practical... - SkippyDoorknob, on 01/29/2009, -0/+8If you run a Dyson vacuum on a dirt floor, it will eventually bore its way into the earth's core.
- Frostek, on 01/29/2009, -0/+8I can hear my neighbours walking around next door on their wooden floors - I think they must even have taken the carpet off the stairs - strangely, they vacuum all day as well... Weirdos.
- vilago, on 01/29/2009, -2/+9Doesnt anyone read consumer reports anymore? they may not be comprehensive but they certainly have more experience with a lot more brands of vacuums than probably anyone. they say dysons are fairly average. you don't always get what you pay for...
- blackinthmiddle, on 01/29/2009, -0/+7Six words come to mind: The right tool for the job. Wet/dry vacs are made for shops, tool sheds and garages where you get really large messy situations. You accidentally spill a couple of bags of gravel on the floor in your tool shed? You use a wet/dry vac. You're fixing the laundry sink and a ton of water accidentally spills to the ground? Same deal. You want to clean your *living environment*? You use a traditional vacuum like a Dyson.
- inajeep, on 01/28/2009, -2/+9They are worth it to me. No bags or filters. And they suck well.
- vilago, on 01/29/2009, -0/+7SHE'S GONNA BLOW HIM AWAY!!
*voice cracks* - DirtyVicar, on 01/29/2009, -0/+7Everything from vacuums to Dyson spheres -- the guy's a one-man show!
- BrentL, on 01/29/2009, -0/+6Whether you love or hate the Dyson, it's a great success story.
- guyincognitoo, on 01/29/2009, -0/+6He makes hand dryers as well. Work better then the standard ones.
http://www.dysonairblade.com/homepage.asp - saunders45, on 01/29/2009, -0/+6Ever used a Dyson???
- Halgy, on 01/29/2009, -2/+7Yep. That's some terrible art, all right.
- uberbeast1054, on 01/29/2009, -1/+6A Dyson works on hardwood floors as well :)
I have both carpet and hardwood in my house and it does a great job on both. - bigteebo, on 01/29/2009, -1/+6So Dyson is the Steve Jobs of vacuum cleaners?
- bipolarruledout, on 01/29/2009, -0/+5Are you suggesting it should have been spent on fleshlight research?
- jackelopeus, on 01/29/2009, -0/+5Could someone... survive in a transporter buffer for seventy-five years?
- inactive, on 01/29/2009, -0/+5Well yeah but if you're going to cover half your hardwood floors with rugs, doesn't that kind of enforce the point that carpet is better? And I don't complain about dust in carpet because dust in carpet doesn't collect on the bottom of my feet throughout the day.
- PixelMagic, on 01/29/2009, -0/+5Not Franklin :(
http://memory-alpha.org/en/wiki/Matt_Franklin - ferrell, on 01/29/2009, -0/+5That's not his only invention...
http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x7ms5a_saturday-n ... - spyd3rweb, on 01/29/2009, -2/+7***** that get one of these: http://www.durovac.com/images/Diesel-Industrial-Va ...
- Chairboy, on 01/29/2009, -0/+5Perhaps it's because our culture currently embraces ignorance and scorns anyone who doesn't play the 'aw shucks' routine. Dyson seems pretty straightforward to me. "I made something cool, and it's unique."
- inactive, on 01/29/2009, -1/+6Reporter: Mr. O'Reilly what do you think of The Dys-...?
Bill O'Reilly: @#$@#*& THING SUCKS!!! - HouseofEl, on 01/29/2009, -0/+4Dysons are the Apple of vacuums. People buy them for the name and the supposedly radical design. The sad part is the vacuums don't have anything special about their design. Most vacuums have the same technology these days. You can get the same type of vacuum that works and lasts longer than a Dyson for half the price. Dyson is a marketing genius, not a great designer.
- ZellD, on 01/29/2009, -0/+4Or you could be mildly resourceful and transfer the contents outside into a trash bag. Besides, if you cover the container with the bag while you're transferring it, only a small amount will get out anyway.
- Schmich, on 01/29/2009, -1/+5It's a shame how much inventors have to go through just to make and release their product. I guess at least in this case it was "just" the lack of interests by the companies. When it's the opposite things get nasty and companies tend to steal as much as they can. As a Swede I remember all the ***** Håkan Lans had to go through. An inventor should only put his time inventing and developing his things and not fight his way to finalize it, that's another man's job.
Nonetheless, great story and work by that Mr. Dyson. - SeaMowse, on 01/28/2009, -3/+7Yeah, they are expensive. We have a Hoover Wind Tunnel right now that's supposed to be the next best vacuum, compared to Dyson. It was about $ 250, 5 years ago, and is well worth it - but it's getting old and isn't quite what it used to be.
Anyway, with 6 cats, we need something powerful. Our next vacuum will be a Dyson. At $500-$600, I think I'll get my money's worth. - amnesiac096, on 01/29/2009, -0/+4Check woot.com, they have Dyson's every once in awhile for cheap.
- blackinthmiddle, on 01/29/2009, -0/+4Same here. Hardwood throughout both floors.
- jakereilly, on 01/29/2009, -0/+4So that's what your drag queen boyfriend likes to be called.
