We don't go to reunions because we don't want to, not because we don't know they're happening. - Teradoc, on 06/16/2009, -0/+44Facebook reunion notification = a great way for me to care even less about the people I loathed in school
- mattgilberg, on 06/15/2009, -0/+34And for all those hook-ups between the now successful nerds and the formerly "popular" cheerleaders: Craigslist
- inactive, on 06/16/2009, -0/+30I work at an alumni association. I think we are a huge waste of money/time working to fulfill an idea of "reunion" as defined by dinosaurs in their late 50s/60s - completely out of touch with modern times. But they pay me to do not very much, so I will complain about it on digg but never at work.
- bringitontimx, on 06/16/2009, -0/+20My mom organized her reunion through Facebook. My mom.
- NBCLocal, on 06/24/2009, -3/+21I would have thought the exact opposite. But, I wonder if today's high school and college grads will stay in touch better over the long term than those classes did from five or ten years back. Maybe that is when there will be a more significant drop in attendance (why fly across the country when you can vchat).
- LeroyJenkems, on 06/16/2009, -0/+18Reminds me of the Onion article about Classmates.com
http://www.theonion.com/content/news_briefs/classm ... - Subduction, on 06/16/2009, -0/+16You're a real asset to your school.
- Ne007, on 06/16/2009, -1/+14Memo to former classmates:
I never was your friend and I don't want to be now.....and stop trying to post your lame high school pictures on my facebook.
In all seriousness there are very very few people I'd be interested in seeing....and not even them if they are married with children. - bigteebo, on 06/16/2009, -0/+12Bye bye classmates.com.
- MtheoryX, on 06/16/2009, -0/+12dugg for honesty.
- USER1236, on 06/16/2009, -0/+11There was a 10th and a 15th anniversary reunion, you just weren't invited
- Kazbaeden, on 06/16/2009, -0/+9Because lurking on someone's facebook page is not "staying connected."
Although that distinction is going to be fully lost on the newest generation. - friday1970, on 06/15/2009, -1/+10I didn't know about our 20 year class reunion (gosh, 20 years already?!!), but Facebook allowed me me to be notified via classmates. It's amazing how today's technology is used for purposes we never even imagined 20 years ago.
- dan1101, on 06/16/2009, -0/+9I knew my 20th reunion was coming up, so I signed up for Classmates.com a year or two ago. Those bastards automatically renew you. Plus I found a lot of classmates listed there, but very few were regular visitors and there were few updates from them.
About the time the reunion came I figured out that most of my classmates were on Facebook.com, that was much more active, and free. - Gargo, on 06/16/2009, -0/+9As did mine. Then she tried to friend me
- MtheoryX, on 06/16/2009, -1/+9Reunions are almost as lame as the people who attend them.
- zwendkos, on 06/16/2009, -1/+9Princeton Reunions are epic. They will never die, but I will acknowledge the fact that people at reunions definitely are armed with more details about your life when you see them, which actually helps eradicate much of the small talk. Reunions now are less and less about seeing what people have been up to in the past X years and more and more about partying like you used to for a few nights with old friends.
- bhavinp, on 06/16/2009, -2/+10That's pretty sad to be honest. I pity you.
PS: Im in engineering. - inactive, on 06/16/2009, -0/+7How to NOT get me to attend my 10 year anniversary.
1) Charge me 200$
2) Host it on both Saturday & Sunday.
3) Create alot of "Fun" events for people to do.
200$? PER DAY? 2 DAYS? What if the old friend I wanted to see shows up on Saturday, but not Sunday? What the hell happened to having a dance floor & a bar and light catering? My 20 year is coming up, its a 15 minute drive for me, if they plan on doing the same thing, i'll probably pass on it. - yocouchdigga, on 06/16/2009, -1/+8well said.
- okayokayokay, on 06/16/2009, -0/+7LOL: "The other day he asked me why people aren't interested in getting in touch with old friends anymore, and I told him that the Internet just isn't very popular right now. What else was I supposed to say?"
- Kazbaeden, on 06/16/2009, -3/+9If you RTFA it pretty much concludes that reunions are here to stay, and that facebook just makes it easier.
- jlimon, on 06/16/2009, -0/+6I like how you made sure to say TRIED.
- ChairShot83, on 06/16/2009, -0/+6If I want to see the losers I hung out with in high school I'll just order a pizza cuz they were idiots.
- Pugmonkeys, on 06/16/2009, -1/+7I've had this conversation with a lot of people around 10 year reunion age. Everyone that they were close with in high school they can check up on them any day of the week. They know exactly what is going on in everyones life. Whats the point of reconnecting when you never really lose the connection?
- kd420, on 06/16/2009, -1/+6One of my friends got an invitation to a high school reunion from Facebook...it's only been 4 years. Seriously, 4 years? Now being desperate for friends is even more obvious, thanks Facebook!
- BossKey, on 06/16/2009, -0/+4I'm a nerd. Why would I want to face everybody from high school again?
- ayeroxor, on 06/16/2009, -1/+5Judging by the 'gosh', yes, I'd say it's been about 20 years.
- Teradoc, on 06/16/2009, -0/+4Well said, my thoughts exactly
- superherogirl, on 06/16/2009, -0/+4i'd prefer to not be located....
- Smokeydabear, on 06/16/2009, -0/+4If I need to find information about people I graduate with, I just check out the Michigan Offender Tracking Information System via the Michigan State Police. Most of the people I graduated with are criminal losers, which is a sad thing.
- martoq, on 06/16/2009, -0/+3Been out of school since '93 and there hasn't been a reunion yet. There's just no need anymore.
- lorddazzer, on 06/16/2009, -4/+7Insert "your mom" joke here.
- keyforce, on 06/16/2009, -0/+3That's pretty much high school for you.
- yipeyipe, on 06/16/2009, -0/+3I just had my 10 year high school reunion. I had caught up with only a handful of friends from highschool on facebook, but somehow wasn't surprised by what anyone was doing. Fleeting facebook statuses and comments had passively caught me up to what nearly everyone was up to. Those who I hadn't heard about had mostly not amounted to much, which is why I hadn't heard of/from them. There were a few surprises - but largely from those who kept off the grid, so to speak.
At this rate, I highly doubt there will be a 20 year reunion. This one was a let down because we all knew what everyone else was up to thanks to facebook. - Meursault, on 06/16/2009, -0/+3Great way to form online cliques before the actual reunion.
- mejf2loy, on 06/16/2009, -2/+5Thats gonna be hard to do being on the sex offender registry...
- MScrip, on 06/16/2009, -0/+3You just described high school too...
- Elranzer, on 06/16/2009, -0/+3Lucky you. 10-year reunion for me and come to find out, nearly half the class wound up gay.
- martoq, on 06/16/2009, -0/+3*****.
- crossmr, on 06/16/2009, -0/+2He's actually a 97 year old transvestite working under cover for the KGB.. where is your honesty now??
- Spure, on 06/16/2009, -0/+2UMMMM DUHHHH
From facebook "Facebook helps you connect and share with the people in your life." - endgame, on 06/16/2009, -0/+2I guess I'm the lone exception here. I went to my 10 year H.S. reunion and had a blast catching up with old friends & others I never really spoke with in school. In fact to be honest a large portion of my "friends" on my Facebook are my old H.S. classmates. Just my two cents!
- jpurnell, on 06/16/2009, -0/+2Hip…hip…
- dvsbastard, on 06/16/2009, -0/+2My grade is currently in the process of organising a 10 year reunion through Facebook... A group has been created and we have roughly 80 members (of a graduating class of about 200 students)... Facebook is only going to help make the organisation process much easier!
- MScrip, on 06/16/2009, -0/+2Because hopefully you're better than everyone else now?
- crossmr, on 06/16/2009, -1/+2have you ever been outside your house and talked to people?
- crossmr, on 06/16/2009, -0/+1depends on how detailed they keep their page. If everything you'd talk about at the reunion is covered on their page (kids, family, work, major interests) where does that leave you for casual conversation with most people?
Hey..so I bought a chocolate bar last week
was that the one you wrote about on your page?
no..this was another one, a twix
really? how was it?
check my page in an hour and I'll let you know.. - inactive, on 06/16/2009, -0/+1Anybody remember that show Classmates.com had a few years ago? They'd typically reunite some loser with their high school crush, who was understandably curious, but once reunited, usually wasn't really into rekindling old (and oftentimes non-existent romances) because they had, you know...a life.
Anyway, it was pretty creepy seeing just how many people are still pining away for someone they went to high school with. -
