- tektalk, on 10/10/2007, -1/+99This guy doesn't deserve a family.
- DavidBGie, on 10/10/2007, -50/+3She married him, she deserves what she got. It's not just his fault. They are both F***'d up.
- addictedidol, on 10/10/2007, -4/+22Nice of you to blame the victim. Your logic fails.
- Volatile, on 10/10/2007, -2/+20What the *****? He was a nice guy when they got married, apparently, or she wouldn't have ***** married him. It's not like she was into the abuse. It wasn't a quality she looked for in a man. This happened over time, and she deserved none of it. If you were to marry a woman who starts to get abusive toward you over the years, do you deserve it?
- rationalist, on 10/10/2007, -8/+20I just reported you, since you talk like a potential spouse abuser. Have a nice day.
- DavidBGie, on 10/10/2007, -5/+2Real life is not 0/100%. She's not a 100% victim and he's not a 100% perpetrator. People try to over simplify life by making everything black and white. There's a lot of grey out there.
Also, @ 'rationalist' I just reported you as a pussy. Have a nice day! - mlwarrior, on 10/10/2007, -2/+4i read davidbge's other comments. they are all dugg down. the guy is a troll, just ignore him.
- DavidBGie, on 10/10/2007, -3/+2Let's shun him because he says things that upset us!!!
- DavidBGie, on 10/10/2007, -5/+2Look, this girl LIKES bad men. Why would you think that she is a 100% victim?
- DavidBGie, on 10/10/2007, -50/+3She married him, she deserves what she got. It's not just his fault. They are both F***'d up.
- loganhid, on 10/10/2007, -24/+12Don't you mean a public stoning
- steelmaverick, on 10/10/2007, -50/+6There's something about this videotape that just seems.......staged....
I'm not saying that abuse doesn't happen, but I think that this might have just been staged for the purpose of the story.
Which actually sickens me more.- BlinderBomber, on 10/10/2007, -4/+28What the hell is wrong with you? Who would have staged this and for what purpose? Even implying this video is faked in any way is basically aiding that douchebag husband's cause.
- seeldee, on 10/10/2007, -1/+48Staged? Be grateful and thankful that you were not raised in an environment like that. If this seems unbelievable to you, then you are one of the lucky people who had a normal, loving upbringing. Sadly, for me and my siblings, homelife was just like that video shows; controlled through intimidation, emotionally and verbally abusive with the occassional act of physical violence to keep everyone "in line". I cannot remember how many "family meetings" I experienced that were just like that video. Everything shown in that video made perfect sense to me, I am saddened to admit.
In that video, the woman was paralyzed into a non-emotional state because any reaction would have been the wrong reaction; the trigger that could have escalated the violence. As it was, she still ended up getting beaten. My god, when people say something like you said in your comment, it really, really upsets me because, really, how would you know?- Caffeinate, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6I know what you mean. If you ever lived in a household where you walked around afraid or on eggshells, you would never say something like that. I know I certainly did - and God forbid you stood up for whoever was getting it. Then you were "interfering" and got the same (possibly worse). No one that grew up like that doubts for a second that it was very much real, because for them, it was real, too.
- norman619, on 10/10/2007, -5/+13Man you sound like you may be just as mush of a waste of human flesh as the scumbag on the video
- CosmicJustice, on 10/10/2007, -1/+27I guess he staged going to prison for 36 years too.
- arcrad, on 10/10/2007, -1/+9Thats unforgivable
- sepelester, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2This could be true. But it doesn't sicken me more.
- IbnDigg, on 10/10/2007, -12/+45Take him to Saudi Arabia, they will stone him there...
Erm actually scrap that, they might give him a medal- pauleric, on 10/10/2007, -6/+33There's no 'might' about it. In countries ruled by sharia law, rape victims are the ones who are punished. Sometimes they'll punish innocent female relatives (e.g. gang rape) of a man who has behaved indecently (by their warped standards). If you don't believe me, here's just one example of punishing the victim off the top of google's search result:
http://www.iranfocus.com/modules/news/article.php?storyid=5184- jdee, on 10/10/2007, -1/+13that story is very sad.... that girl should be commended for saving herself and her neice... not put to death

- IbnDigg, on 10/10/2007, -5/+29Hate to reply to my own comment, but can I say that I'm a Muslim and quite a religious one, i'm fasting right now and haven't eaten/drunk anything in the last 13 hours, (oh god i'm hungry).
So anyway, I find the treatment of women in Saudi despicable.- DocHoliday22, on 10/10/2007, -1/+18I'm Muslim too and a practicing one at that and I thought that was disgusting too. In fact most of everyone I know that's Muslim will be thinking the same.
- shawn1122, on 10/10/2007, -3/+1Wow, I'm christian and you're a dumbass.
- DocHoliday22, on 10/10/2007, -1/+18I'm Muslim too and a practicing one at that and I thought that was disgusting too. In fact most of everyone I know that's Muslim will be thinking the same.
- cassholio, on 10/10/2007, -3/+10thanks for coming out and condemning this sort of misconception of religion - i would venture a guess and say that the mistreatment of women in Muslim predominant countries (i'm not saying it doesn't happen anywhere else!!!)-is due to culture and not religion?
- xxTazxx, on 10/10/2007, -1/+11You're 100% right...mostly these cultures have warped their idea of what is right and think they're allowwed to beat their wives...which of course is utter BS.
- resplence, on 10/10/2007, -3/+2Right, so there's no islamic justification to this kind of treatment at all.

- Jaxxman, on 10/10/2007, -41/+8He is a true alpha male. the epitomy of a strong black man. This is how you treat a beautiful woman.
- cdahlkvist, on 10/10/2007, -10/+6You had to know you were going to be buried for mentioning it was black male. You do realize that we are all "color blind" now and that him being black had nothing to do with it, right?
I mean all those statistics and studies that show that more violent crime is commit ed by blacks and the fact that you can see it every day in any major city is all just made up to "keep the black man down".
So you should have known you'd be buried for stating a fact that no one in our color blind world wants to admit.

- Hoogie7Dowser, on 10/10/2007, -25/+2The guy is a jerk. Lots of people are jerks. It's this woman who is stupid enough to be with a jerk. But I guess that's the type of man women want.
Women are unimaginably incorrigibly stupid....- Volatile, on 10/10/2007, -0/+11You ***** idiot. Do you think he was like this when they met? This type of ***** happens over time. Good lord, you're dense.
- rationalist, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6You sound like a fkindred spirit of the guy in the story. I only hope you outgrow this before you are old enough to start abusing your own wife and children.
- JessicaChrono, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1Do you not understand that while coming home was terrible, in her mind, NOT coming home may be even worse? If she were to up and leave, and take her children ("HIS" children) with her, she had every reason to fear for her life. I'm not saying she could've stayed... But if you believe she didn't agonize over if, when, and how she could leave and where she and her children could go to be safe, then you, sir are unimaginably incorrigibly stupid...
- DocHoliday22, on 10/10/2007, -2/+12Man she's really pretty, most guys would have done anything to keep her.... This guys was just a Class A *****-head, and to do it in front of his kids... WTF was he thinking?
- rationalist, on 10/10/2007, -6/+3Are you implying that a wife's looks have anything to do with the way her husband should treat her? What a stupid, misogynistic comment. There is a direct line from your attitude and what you see on the tape.
- sepelester, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5No.She's beautiful, and there is a reason he decided to couple with her. He apparently forgot it and started to treat her as a domesticated animal. That's what's wrong. Parent commenter was not implying that she was to be treated well because she's beautiful, just that there was something that would make anyone right minded treat her with respect.

culture of violence anyone?- maz2331, on 10/10/2007, -3/+1Nothing wrong with a proper application of violence to protect innocents. It's improper use of violence to suppress people that is the problem. Evil is just evil, and morality is NOT relative. There may be gray areas, but true right and wrong are clear and not negotiable.

- Pikachelsea, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3This has nothing to do with the Bible, but thanks for the off-topic atheist remark of the hour.
- Brozly, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Sicker still is the response this video got on YouTube. The comments following this clip were filled with racism, see for yourself.

- lavchan, on 10/10/2007, -11/+13It's not just the fact that rape isn't a joke, it's the fact that it's just PLAYED THE ***** OUT.
WE GET IT. PEOPLE IN PRISON GET RAPED. GUY NAMED BUBBA. LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL. JOKE OVER. - maz2331, on 10/10/2007, -2/+4Actually, his behavior is bad enough that it should be an explicit part of the sentance. A thug like that in all honesty deserves to be hanged, drawn, and quartered PUBLICLY as an example.
No sympathy here. - svenathon, on 10/10/2007, -4/+2Normally I hate that people make prison rape jokes, its tasteless, offensive, and not even that funny. This time, I dugg him upon principle.
- enki25, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1Besides, this animal will most likely be doing the raping himself.

- m3mn0n, on 10/12/2007, -1/+147I feel so sorry for the woman. Her own children brainwashed against her and helping her husband abuse her in every way.
I hope they grow up and realize just how wrong they were and spend the rest of their lives making it up to her.
The husband can rot in jail the rest of his natural life as far as I care. I hope they deny parole.- IbnDigg, on 10/10/2007, -1/+40I hope so too, but something tells me that they are going to be messed up kids, well atleast the old one. Trauma like that at such an age is hard to just wipe out.
- PAStheLoD, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5In a benevolent society you have a fair chance of getting healed.. but ones like that are hard to finde these days :/
- Volatile, on 10/10/2007, -2/+1There's always hope. They'll probably have nightmares, but I'm confident they'll grow up okay. A girl I know was raped at about the age of the kid with the camera in the video, and besides the occasional bad dream she seems to be as healthy as ever.
- leahcim, on 10/10/2007, -7/+32The kids are going to grow up and be just like the pieces of trash they came from.
The cycle continues.- c1ph3ril, on 10/10/2007, -2/+24That's the saddest part of it
- WarezAppz, on 10/10/2007, -1/+21Not always, proof of that is me, details in a reply elsewhere on this digg. Let's not forget - the children are just as much victims here as is the mother.
- Frnnkdlxx, on 10/10/2007, -6/+1How weird.... She stood there as if she enjoyed the verbal abuse and expected physical abuse. Her face was unharmed... It's almost as if she was in one way a sadist and like the pain being thrown at her... I don't know. good for her, hopefully she is happy now. ... Just a strange situation. Hitting her with pillows and tossing her onto the bed while their son watched? wtf?
- IbnDigg, on 10/10/2007, -1/+40I hope so too, but something tells me that they are going to be messed up kids, well atleast the old one. Trauma like that at such an age is hard to just wipe out.
- BackEnThaWomb, on 10/10/2007, -2/+106i feel so sorry for this woman.
I saw this episode on TV. It was some of the grossest ***** i have ever seen. To think that there are men that dont see how beautiful women are and treat them like nothing, it's absurd.
This woman's lawyer said she was lucky that her husband made their son video tape it, otherwise, the husband might have gotten away with it. Also, her boss had made a log of times she went to work crying or clearly abused. The combination of the two, put this ***** behind bars for a long time.
(I didn't watch the video, sorry if I repeated anything)- norman619, on 10/10/2007, -18/+4This is something my brother and I feared back when our sisters were dating. My brother and I would always take any new guy our sisters may be dating and we break it down for them. Hurt our sister and it will be the very last thing you do besides cry like a bitch as we beat the ***** out of you. The guys either understood we were just concerned for our sister and were good with us and everything was cool or they never come near our sisters again. LOL!!!
- Ambuoroko, on 10/10/2007, -1/+16Every time I've started dating a new girl, someone in her family has taken it upon him/her-self to pull me aside and threaten me with various physical and mental terrors should the girl be 'hurt'. I find this to be somewhat childish and foolish, though. I mean getting 'hurt' is pretty much an expected part of dating unless you're planning to marry the girl after the first date and also don't ever plan on arguing. Just seems a bit silly.
- wheresmysnack, on 10/10/2007, -4/+3I agree. Its like they expect it to happen. Its retarded and it generally just pisses me off at her brothers/father/uncle/etc.
- Pikachelsea, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Wow norman, must be nice having the perfect sister who never does anything EVER to hurt the guy she dates. Maybe her boyfriend should beat YOU up when she cheats on him. Doesn't sound so cute now, does it?
- Ambuoroko, on 10/10/2007, -1/+16Every time I've started dating a new girl, someone in her family has taken it upon him/her-self to pull me aside and threaten me with various physical and mental terrors should the girl be 'hurt'. - jamima69z, on 10/10/2007, -1/+15yeah,as soon as i got that ***** warning from a girl's dad/brother when i was younger,i'd break it off right away. I found it to be a pretty good indicator of a ***** up family atmosphere. guys don't talk like that unless they feel like women are less capable of taking care of themselves than others, and need protecting. and in that kind of family, the females generally aren't treated very well, even if the men think they're doing the "right" thing.
so that was my signal to either stop dating the girl,or put her in the "friend" list.
- norman619, on 10/10/2007, -18/+4This is something my brother and I feared back when our sisters were dating. - soupyc, on 10/10/2007, -4/+8No, it really didn't.
- BuckCynnie, on 10/10/2007, -7/+16Wearing the Christian Cross while committing those disgusting acts, he should be crucified for that alone.
- JoeWix, on 10/10/2007, -4/+13Hmm... I understand the emotion, and I hate this guy too, but crucifying him for anything, doesn't sound like something Jesus taught. 36 years in prison sounds fair.
- DaffyDuck, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3And castration.

- sparf, on 10/10/2007, -9/+2Jesus wept.
- PAJK, on 10/10/2007, -12/+17But you see, it DOES make it acceptable. All he has to do is ask for forgiveness and poof, going to heaven. Good ol' ancient Christianity.
- Paperthin, on 10/10/2007, -2/+12No, he has to actually repent, not just fake it. If he says he repents, and doesn't, he's still gonna burn. But he needs to truly believe that he has wronged and atone for it.

- barakatx2, on 10/10/2007, -8/+9how the hell do you bring the cross into this? im not even a christian and that is just ***** retarded. did he even mention his religion once while he abused her? you're just another ***** constantly trying to blame everything on religion. this is all because that guy is a cruel jackass, not because hes wearing a cross.
- jasoninoakland, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3He was wearing a cross in just about every picture. If you're a (good) Christian, I'd imagine you'd be disgusted about him wearing a symbol of your religion while being such a violent, abusive person.
- Thefatheroftime, on 10/10/2007, -8/+2Religious people are righteous. Religious people are good. Things religious people do are righteous and good, in their own minds.
Religious people are accepted. Things religious people do is accepted in the minds of other religious people.
Believe me, abusing your spouse was as common 60 years ago as going to church on Sunday.
BTW, abusing blacks, just as this woman was abused, was as accepted 60 years ago as going to church on Sunday.- TotalHalibut, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Quite frankly, if you wanna blame religion for everything, then you're even more ***** retarded than the evangelist right-wing zealots you hate.
- SomeguyUK, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2What?Noone mentions the cross for the whole clip, its irrelevant! You might as well have said, 'he's wearing a vest, as if that makes all this ok'

- shortarabguy, on 10/10/2007, -18/+4Should we cut off the arms of people who steal as well? Just because something actually strikes you as wrong doesn't make it right to go and kill or torture the person. It's your kind of thinking that got a guy's house burned down and his wife killed in the fire because he was charged with child pornography. Vigilante justice is a spectacularly horrifying practice most of the time, so do please try to keep your sanity with you when you consider appropriate responses to heinous crimes.
- FZero68, on 10/10/2007, -4/+17I stand by my comment.
- kooft, on 10/10/2007, -5/+16Yeah, because lynching a black man wouldn't at all take away from the issue at hand, domestic violence... I say throw him to the US justice system, a far worse fate if you ask me.

MSM gives RP limited coverage and so folks like me have to do all we can to showcase his message of bringing the troops home NOW and shutting down the military industrial complex costing 1 trillion $ a year and carpet bombing cities in Iraq from high altitude(always inaccurate....)

- Neiby, on 10/10/2007, -1/+39This video was very difficult to watch. You know that judge has seen some bad stuff in his career, so you know that tape was especially bad if it still affects him like that. It does make me feel better to see the woman doing so well, and I can only hope her children are getting the counseling they need.
- isukeyo, on 10/10/2007, -1/+10"I can only hope her children are getting the counseling they need" - for the sake of their future spouses, I hope so too!

- ACrazyGerman, on 10/10/2007, -10/+73Wasn't really "Caught" on tape it was really just taped.
- BuckCynnie, on 10/10/2007, -1/+16Semantics.

- tallulahvulture, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6I do realize that it is still difficult, i've seen domestic abuse before my own eyes, its a terrible thing, but its worth pulling yourself together no matter how ground down you are to seek help.

- aldenhg, on 10/10/2007, -4/+13There are plenty of normal seeming white collar men who abuse their wives. The trick is if your father was abusive don't marry someone like him.
- Devdan, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Exactly, she said in the video that her father was overbearing which means that she became attracted to controlling abusive men at a young age. The things that are scary for us in childhood become extremely attractive in adulthood, classic psychology. She needs a lot of therapy and so do her kids or her sons will grow up to abuse women and her daughter will grow up to be abused by men. This is a terrible cycle of life, she can stop it for her family.

- thrallie, on 10/10/2007, -8/+30I just got a little more faith in our judicial system. 36 years is great, but that idiot should have gone to prison for life. My god, anyone who does that need the death penalty. And I am against the death penalty.
- olsonea, on 10/10/2007, -1/+21They guy was in his 40s, right? He'll most likely die in prison, and if not, he'll die shortly thereafter face down in a gutter.
- JoeWix, on 10/10/2007, -0/+10Unfortunately, he'll be eligible for parole in a little over 10 years. The prisons are already overburdened and looking to reduce their roles by any means (reasonable and otherwise). Don't be surprised to see him released in time to hunt her and her kids down in the next decade. Tragic, but it happens much too regularly. All you can hope for is for his behavior to be 'less than exemplary' while doing time, in order to extend his sentence, or at the very least, be used against him at his parole hearings.
- shortarabguy, on 10/10/2007, -2/+12No you're not. You just advocated its use on people who beat their wives. From a far-removed view, you advocated capital punishment for multiple cases of assault.
- svenathon, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1I didn't gain any faith in our judicial system, tons of these cases get dismissed for lack of evidence. The fact is this was a rare case where there was actually a tape of the crime. That doesn't generally happen, and it's hard to demonstrate the level of abuse without hard proof like that
/sad but true - Thefatheroftime, on 10/10/2007, -6/+2This is tape of a woman getting roughed up a bit by her spouse. How does this compare to murder, rape, a severe physical attack? Does it seem worse because she's just standing there letting it happen? I've seen woman more badly abused in bar fights.
- svenathon, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1...and you watched it happen?
- enki25, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1He got 36 years because he's black. He deserves it obviously, but some redneck who does the same thing probably wouldn't get as long a sentence. Monkey see Monkey do!- olsonea, on 10/10/2007, -1/+13Right. Because someone with anger issues like that would never lay a hand on his kids. Or maybe it's that the beatings the kids took were never filmed.

- ripple123, on 10/10/2007, -2/+18What the ***** is he gonna do man? Wail against his dad with his 13 year old fists? That guy is huge. And you are a idiot, lacking even the perspective to put yourself in the shoes of that kid.
- Ozzsanity, on 10/10/2007, -4/+13Actually I was witness to my mother being beaten by my step father. I grabbed a rifle from a closet told him I would blow his head off. The COWARD stood still while I drove my mother to a motel. I was 14 at the time.
- ripple123, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8Damn dude, thats pretty badass..
- CAKochenash, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8good for you brother...
- Ozzsanity, on 10/10/2007, -10/+2Actually I was not thinking it was bad ass. I was scared to death and shaking after I did it. Of course I have no doubt that your pussy ass would let your mother be beat down.
- ripple123, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6You need to shut your rifle toting ass up. You had a rifle, you also don't know if this kid did, displaying further your ignorance of the specific situation this kid was in while being all too ready to rip into his actions.
- teethman, on 10/10/2007, -4/+1knife
- cdahlkvist, on 10/10/2007, -2/+2While it's not the duty of the kid (at least mentally) to stand up to his father the size shouldn't matter. It's about doing what you know is right. The kid will most likely end up the same as the father.
I stood up to my father when I was 13. Once my mother saw that she realized just how bad the situation was. It was a wake up call for her and they were divorced shortly afterward. Did I get my ass beat? Yes, I did. Severely. But I stood up for what I thought I needed to stand up for.
And as a side-note, I became my father for a while. I was filled up with so much anger and hatred and pain and I finally exploded. Fortunately for me my girlfriend knows who I am and she stood by me and I found help in the form of therapy and anger management.
Children of abuse often end up abusers unless they get some serious help with their issues. Unfortunately, for many of us it takes a situation like mine before we realize how angry we really are and how ***** up the abuse left us before we are willing to get help.
- thecompkid, on 10/10/2007, -5/+4Hahaha, the kid thinks he's cool because he can point a gun at someone.
Any pussy can do that, bitch, the real men don't use guns.

- Ozzsanity, on 10/10/2007, -6/+1Any man or boy who stands by while a lady is beaten is a COWARD. No doubt you would just sit there crying.
- Ozzsanity, on 10/10/2007, -4/+13Actually I was witness to my mother being beaten by my step father. I grabbed a rifle from a closet told him I would blow his head off. The COWARD stood still while I drove my mother to a motel. I was 14 at the time.
- AICkieran, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2Because he too hadn't been *****, right?
- WarezAppz, on 10/10/2007, -2/+9As a child who went through pretty much the same thing, I must say at 8 (me) & 13 (my Brother) there isn't much as a child that (even though me and my brother wasn't abused) feels like you can do. You're raised to fear your parents to some degree (aka not talk back - interefere with adult business etc). I will say that - that is the only time in my life that my brother was actaully worth something. He did what she said the 19 year old daughter did, he tried to keep me from seeing it. After my parents divorced a few years later - My brother became the biggest *****, he purposefully picked fights with anyone and everyone. His end result: He married - had two kids - became a cheat - divorced - turned to drugs and is now in prison at 41 years old. Where are neither one of us has had the 'abusive' past that my father has, there definitely was/is some anger issues to contend with. Children are unique in how they may cope with things. I think god (that's right I said god on digg) that he allowed me to avoid some of the things that others might not. As for my father, believe it or not, he and my mother still speak (not married) on a regular basis. My father has been married 3 times, only the first was abusive. His problem, I believe he was way to young to be married and hadn't a clue of how to cope. Justified? no, but those are the facts, and part of those has led me to ensure that I will never let those same circumstances befall me if it is within my power. So coward? no, the child is going to have to be brave for the rest of his life to contend with what's in his past.

- ncapone, on 10/10/2007, -2/+29I think one of the most striking aspects of the video was of how strong and resilient the woman was only four years after the abuse was filmed. Often it takes many more years for abuse victims to regain composure and begin their lives again. It serves as a glaring reminder of the abuse victim: they can be anyone. Beautiful or not, intelligent or not, abuse is not limited to one specific demographic. Also, I wonder what happened to her children; are they still abusive to her or are they forgiving?
- AICkieran, on 10/10/2007, -3/+2This is true, I have often asked myself WHY people stay in abusive relationships because it is easy on the outside to look at the physical abuse and think '***** that, I wouldn't put up with that' but often overlooked is the mental aspect of this, especially coming from a partner, someone you know and love not just some drunk ***** on the street.
The children were victims the same as the mother, they saw their father as a dominant figure and related to that and were basically brainwashed (forgive the amateur psychology here) I don't think there would be any resentment there, well, other than coming from themselves.

- smackjack, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1Yet you took the time to create this reply?
- controltheweb, on 10/10/2007, -2/+13This is very important for the women who are still in abusive relationships. It gives them hope, gives their support system something they can use, and gives their abusers something to think about. But the scariest part is that lots of women try to get out and don't. The court system rarely has evidence like this, it's tough to get your kids safe and get away, and the abusers have a lot to lose, so they fight with violence or lawyers to keep the abused from getting out.

- pintomp3, on 10/10/2007, -1/+37i've never understood the mentality of a wife beater. just the thought of my wife suffering pain is hard for me to bear, much less me inflicting it. is it some kind of prior abuse, like witnessing your own mother being degraded and beating by your father? is it some kind of compensation because he feels he doesn't have control of his life outside the house? will he come out even more violent from prison? i'm not trying to make excuses or anything but i think that understanding the cause is more productive than punishment only. since when has punishing a bully made him less violent?
- AICkieran, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7Almost always, depending on the punishment.
Bullies do it because they can get away with it, they go for easy targets. I imagine him being in a place full of people bigger than himself, some of them that wouldn't think twice about killing him would be rather humbling and put him back in to his place.
I'm no expert, but I agree with what you say, I think he gets some sort of feeling of power from it, 'hey, I can control another human being and do whatever the ***** I want to her'.
But hey, hopefully when(if) he gets out, he will be too old to ***** up someone else's life. - shadx, on 10/10/2007, -3/+3It's because he's weak and powerless and he probably learned it from his family as well. (Note the cross around his neck)
And his band pictures through the years also show that he needs to come out of the closet.
***** coward. - chungthomas, on 10/10/2007, -0/+9The man had no job, the woman had a job. Plus she took care of the whole family from picking up the kid to buying grocery. The guy was jealous.
The guy should have find a job instead of sitting his lazy ass there and waiting for his wife to come home and beat her. Hope he rots in prison. - adrianmonk, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3In my experience from observing people who are abusive (although not as abusive as this guy), it's usually people who have grown up in screwed-up environments and have developed an anti-social attitude towards others. They behave as if having a real, meaningful connection to other human beings is not really possible, either because they believe others can't be trusted or for some other reason. Once you have that as a starting point, it becomes easier to intimidate and manipulate people into doing what you want. A normal person wouldn't treat another person like this for fear of damaging the relationship, but because the abusive person doesn't see a real relationship as really possible, they don't have that factor preventing them from behaving that way, and other issues they have take over. For example, if they have control issues, those take over. Or whatever kinds of issues they have.
In order to make any progress, you pretty much have to end the relationship with the abusive person. This is sad because usually there is some legitimate positive aspect of the relationship separate from the abusive aspect. And it's sad for the abusive person because they're already really alone and having trouble connecting with other human beings. I think in abusive families, one of the reasons women take so long to leave is that they see this: they know that their husband who is abusing them is doing it because they're messed up, and they don't want the husband that they love to have to feel rejected and be alone, all the more so because they know how hard it is for the abusive person to be connected to anyone. But the reality of the situation is that if you stay, you are just making things worse. It's better for the abusive person to lose their family and be forced to change. They may or may not really change, but if you leave them, at least they have a chance of experiencing a wake-up call and changing, and maybe at some point in the future they'll be able to have a healthy relationship. I think it takes abused women a long time to see that this is really the only way to go; they keep hoping it can get better without breaking the family up (as the woman in the video said).
- AICkieran, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7Almost always, depending on the punishment.

- nick111, on 10/10/2007, -5/+11After this thread has run for a couple of days it will be interesting to see what proportion of comments come up with the classic solution of trying to solve violence with more violence.
- im4marlins, on 10/10/2007, -3/+7You mean like "she should have got a gun and done us all a favor by blowing that *****'s brains out"? Count me in!
- JackTreehorn, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3This happened in New York state....very difficult to legally own a gun there.
- shadx, on 10/10/2007, -5/+0Actually before she blows his brains out I'd love to see her give him the same torture he did to her.
It would feel so good to see her verbally put him down and make him think he's nothing but a piece of ***** on her shoe and then she and her kid can kick the ***** out of him while he's laying on the ground covering his face as they laugh.- rationalist, on 10/10/2007, -3/+1Let me guess - you're a "good Christian".
- adrianmonk, on 10/10/2007, -1/+0Oh, but people will keep claiming violence is the solution because it FEELS GOOD to smack somebody down. And if something feels good momentarily, it's got to be the right solution, right?
- im4marlins, on 10/10/2007, -3/+7You mean like "she should have got a gun and done us all a favor by blowing that *****'s brains out"? Count me in!
- SMPrime, on 10/10/2007, -3/+4The only sad part is that justice was served in this case, but not in the millions of other domestic abuse cases that are just as bad, just as violent, and just as damaging. Every day you probably see a woman on the street or in a store that lives this very life. Society was lucky enough to have this particular case caught on tape, but most domestic abuse victims are ALSO victimized by the "system" that is supposed to protect us. For every one of her, there are thousands of women a day who lose this battle, and end up getting punished by these scumbags for trying to be whistleblowers. 36 years is great, but the vast majority of these "men" barely get a slap on the wrist.
- feech, on 10/10/2007, -8/+1I didn't think Tony Gywnn was that type of guy lol..But seriously as a man it is disgusting to see this. On another note if anyone seen the end can you tell me if she's single now?
- Typhoon2009, on 10/10/2007, -4/+2Woulda been better if the kid hit the father in the spine with a baseball bat, but I woulda been scared *****.
Hope this guy gets killed in prison. By AIDS. - xxTazxx, on 10/10/2007, -3/+8I couldn't f*cking watch all of it...I hope that man gets bum raped in prison and I don't give a ***** if I get dugg down for this...that woman deserves so much more but he put her down like she was nothing.
- SpikeOKC, on 10/10/2007, -5/+4i think that is so disgusting that the man did this to his wife but i think it is even more horrible that he got his son to join in on the abuse... What a great son... My father would have kicked myass if i talked to my mother like that
- adrianmonk, on 10/10/2007, -1/+0Agreed. There seems to be some hope left for the son though. The narrator said there was one point during the tape when the man was beating his wife that the son pointed the camera away from the violence and pointed it at his shoes instead. That means the kid was experiencing trauma, but it also means on some level he knows the score, and he probably just needs to sort out the issues relating to being in a situation where he was more or less forced into being turned against his mother.
- JrGhoull, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2i'd wager a dollar that this was just as abusive on the kid as it was on his mom. the dad told him to pick up the camera and start taping it, the kid didnt just choose to. and i bet he only did it because he was afraid that his dad would then turn on him. i just hope that the kids and mom are getting better with help.
- chaos7, on 10/10/2007, -19/+7not condoning his behavior, but 36 years in prison is WAY too much.
- maz2331, on 10/10/2007, -3/+0It is way too long. A year or two to arrange the media coverage and get stuff together... then a multi-media extravaganza for his hanging, drawing, and quartering during Super Bowl half time (pay per view, of course) is indicated.
- Ozzsanity, on 10/10/2007, -15/+15For all those thinking the kid could not do anything. I was 14 when my step father beat up on my mom. I grabbed a rifle from our home and told the SOB I would kill him. I made him go outside while I held the gun on him. My mom got some stuff together and I drove her to a motel. If it ever happened again I told him I would not give him a warning I would just blow his brains out. I slept with that rifle for the rest of my days in that house.
- AICkieran, on 10/10/2007, -4/+16Well done Mr. Hero.
And suppose you didn't have access to a rifle? You going to beat him up with your pitiful 13 year old blows? Maybe take a knife to him?
But ***** it, that has nothing to do with it, this guy started out with mental abuse, not only on the mother but on the children too, he had convinced them that HE was right and the mother was just getting what she deserved, young minds are easy to manipulate.
I like to think that being of age where I can and being on the outside if anybody treated my mother like this I would find out if he is really as tough as he likes to make out but for the child it would have been difficult. - thecompkid, on 10/10/2007, -4/+9What, do you think if you keep telling the story that it will somehow become reality?
- bardamuclichy, on 10/10/2007, -4/+2Another suburban middle class white boy who thinks ***** like that only happens on tv. You're the kind of retard I like to beat in the face for fun just to see the look of shock that somebody doesn't put up with their ***** talking. Ever been whacked with tire knocker before? Just keep it up. Yours will come around eventually.
One of my best friends knocked out his stepfather with a bat because he kept beating up his mom AND him. They then called the police and had a restraining order put on him. He ended up in jail. BUT OH NOES! THAT NEVER HAPPENS BECAUSE MOMMY AND DADDY ARE SO GOOD TO YOU! - adrianmonk, on 10/10/2007, -2/+0As if crazier ***** than that doesn't happen every single day somewhere? It's a little bit of a wild story and being a little skeptical is probably smart, but I don't think it can dismissed out of hand either. It very well *could* have happened.
- rationalist, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3Given that this same poster keeps dropping the N-bomb everywhere, attempting to isolate wife-abuse to fit his racist ideology, I doubt his story is true. He seems much less concerned about the crime, let alone the welfare of the mother or children than he is promoting his neo-Nazi dogma everywhere on Digg. Don't fall for his crap.

- guess88, on 10/10/2007, -6/+16What's even more suprising are some of the racist comments made here. Like that makes you any better than the abusive guy?
As for him not becoming a bitch in jail because of his size, I doubt that's true. Abusive people are insecure and lack self-esteem. He'll be a bitch quick.- Samohtneas, on 10/10/2007, -14/+1I don't think it's suprising at all. It's quite a trend among African Americans, more so than caucasians or... asians.

- thailand1972, on 10/10/2007, -2/+0Women also seem to be below the radar regarding the stereotype of the domestic violence perpetrator. See how the stereotype is always that domestic violence *has* to be male on female? Check out some stats : http://www.dvstats.com/ - women are just as likely to be perpetrators of domestic violence as men. No violence is acceptable, and we should stop stereotyping who the perpetrators are - this just gives a pass to the non-stereotypical abuser ("surely SHE'D never abuse her kids/husband?" - "But HE'S so smart and has a good job, no way he'd hit his kids/wife"). Stereotypes do no good whatsoever.
