- Toshibi, on 03/12/2009, -0/+23Possibly Security through obscurity. Very few people even know who the guy is, honestly. Further, he's in Nebraska...he's protected by the force field of boredom.

Lookin' for my realized market loss
Some people claim that there's the market to blame
But I know
It's my own damn fault - smackieattk, on 03/12/2009, -1/+20Dell's house looks like an airport terminal.
- fitzfan, on 03/12/2009, -1/+20Buff Daddy is the many. Money never made him sell out or change his way of life.
- KRY4no1, on 03/12/2009, -2/+15It really gets to a point where you have to ask what the purpose of a 10 building estate is. I mean really, no matter how many guests and family members you have, does it really ever justify that much acreage? I say no, it's pretty disgusting.
Pardon my disposition, rich folk. I'll just continue working 3 part time jobs to keep my tiny ass apartment. - MistaSkinner, on 03/12/2009, -0/+13I like Oprah's home.
- Floodle, on 03/12/2009, -1/+13As long as you're dropping out because you've already started to make your billions and realise there's no point in continuing it.
- Chompy, on 03/12/2009, -0/+12His house is actually just the cover for an elaborate underground facility known as.. the Hive.

- iloveobama, on 03/12/2009, -4/+15You should have taken a loan out for one a few months ago so that you could default and have Obama pay your mortgage for you
- JFitzpatrick, on 03/12/2009, -1/+9I'm going on a limb here and saying... because you're high a lot.
- emkaysmith, on 03/12/2009, -0/+8Is Packer's place under renovation? Or is it *supposed* to look like a coal plant?
Gates's mansion is supposed to be (I haven't been inside . . .) fascinating in a bizarrely techie sort of way -- like the millionaire's home in "Cryptonomicon," with the dissected airliner in the ceiling.
Lucas's house looks like a Disney World resort hotel. Oprah's house, OTOH, is gorgeous in a classical sense. - Floodle, on 03/12/2009, -0/+8Stop surfing digg and get back to work, slacker !! /s
Seriously though, I was actually expecting them to be bigger when you see how much money they have, Steven Spielberg's house doesn't really look anything special.
Rich people spending money on big houses helps the economy, builders, servants, cleaners etc, better than them just letting it sit in a bank account. I say encourage them to spend some of their wealth instead of hoarding it all., get it flowing through the economy. - ChristopherShwn, on 03/12/2009, -0/+8How? by vacinating almost every child in the world? Maybe because he's pretty much stopping malaria himself? Or maybe just because ur just jealous. idiot.
- viraj86, on 03/12/2009, -2/+9Bill Gates home makes me jealous !!
- svtpete, on 03/12/2009, -2/+9I'm not going to defend the lavishness of her estate by any means, but she made her money fair and square. Why not question the fact the people are paid that kind of money 'entertaining' the mindless masses.
- mattearle, on 03/12/2009, -0/+7WTF is with Forbes layout being designed to best support 800x600 resolution? God, I hate that site. Superficial articles, poorly presented.
- yngtimmy, on 03/12/2009, -1/+7Some day I will own a house like one of those..
- inactive, on 03/12/2009, -1/+6Honestly you do have a point.
- afizzledbear, on 03/12/2009, -0/+4they deserve these houses in every way. They earned the money that they have and they can spend it how they want.
- celer1ty, on 03/12/2009, -0/+4Damn Forbes slideshows..
- morningmatters, on 03/12/2009, -0/+3Hmm, Bill Gate's home has a 60 feet swimming pool with underwater sound system? I guess he wants to hear music while snorkeling?
The best home I have seen is the Breakers Mansion in Newport RI. At 100k sq feet it's bigger than all of this homes listed here, and the best part is that you can walk in and enjoy the decor for a mere $10. - DontLIE2Me, on 03/12/2009, -1/+41958 31,500 = 2009 31,500
- inactive, on 03/12/2009, -0/+3Why is hoarding your money a bad thing? He doesn't owe you even a trickle down of his *****.
- romdos, on 03/12/2009, -0/+3Duh... He has a ccw permit!
- 1807, on 03/12/2009, -2/+5Why do I always get Jimmy Buffet and Warren Buffet mixed up?
- inactive, on 03/13/2009, -0/+3Bill Gates is the exception, not the rule. You remind me of Michael Scott on The Office...
"I did not go to business school. You know who else didn't go to business school? LeBron James, Tracy McGrady, Kobe Bryant. They went right from high school to the NBA so..."
But hell, what do I care? Don't go to school. Less competition for me. - musntSurfatWork, on 03/12/2009, -3/+6no you won't, otherwise you'd have it by now.
- snogye, on 03/12/2009, -0/+3They forgot to mention my house. For privacy reasons I assume.

- inactive, on 03/13/2009, -0/+2Because time = money, obviously!
- inactive, on 03/12/2009, -1/+3Why is it a good example? What makes it "good"?
- Danltn, on 03/12/2009, -0/+2Wow, nice link.
- ralphthemagi, on 03/14/2009, -0/+2Bill Gates had money. It's really easy to make money when you have it. You can take risks, and as long as you have a good idea all you have to do is keep pushing it.
I don't mean to trivialize his accomplishments by any means, but the idea that Bill Gates came from nothing is a fallacy. - DirtyVicar, on 03/12/2009, -2/+4". Legendary investor Buffett, 78, still calls his humble digs in Omaha, Neb.'s Happy Hollow suburb home, despite a $37 billion fortune."
This is all well and great but what the article fails to answer is how he keeps an element of basic security. If you live out with the commoners with $37 billion you're going to have people constantly coming up to your house asking for money, climbing over the back fence to break in, and making plots for ransom. And living with 10 security people standing out in the yard would be fairly intolerable. - inactive, on 03/12/2009, -0/+2It isn't his fault. When you post a link and then edit your comment, the link comes out like that.
- inactive, on 03/12/2009, -0/+2Some might say that you have a good deal of leverage with a billion in the bank as well.
Not me though, I'm an idiot. - GunWraith, on 03/12/2009, -0/+2Please, please, please tell me you left off the /s...
- ToxicGas, on 03/12/2009, -1/+3I agree ... he's proof that "trickle down" economics are BS. Hoarding your money doesn't make you a hero in my eyes.
- inactive, on 03/13/2009, -0/+1Is Digg so stupid it can't store URLs as plain text and parse them as a URL when printing the comments out, rather than storing the HTML code in the database?
- inactive, on 03/13/2009, -0/+1I'd bet anything you won't (unless you're talking about Buffet's house).
- Samueul, on 03/12/2009, -0/+1Even in this economy, realestate is the thing to OWN. Not owe the bank, but own... If you have that big of a home and own it, you have some serious leverage...
- inactive, on 03/13/2009, -0/+1Yeah, being successful is a crime! Communism is wonderful! Everyone should just share the wealth with everyone! Down with goals and dreams! Blah blah blah...
Personally, I'd lose a lot of my drive if I knew I would have to share the money I make with stupid, lazy, poor people. - inactive, on 03/13/2009, -0/+1Did the article not say someone with a fake gun tried to break in but was thwarted by security? Maybe it's passive or active, but regardless, I'm sure he knows what he's doing...

- Tooch07, on 03/13/2009, -0/+1Ridiculous real estate: Today in the WSJ in the real estate section I saw a mansion in the Upper East Side of Manhattan for $75,000,000. Meanwhile some people can barely afford motel rooms (from the article a few days ago) and small apartments. Jeez.
- inactive, on 03/13/2009, -0/+1Someone needs a lesson in supply and demand. If just ANYONE could do what she did, why aren't they?
