Different symbols mean different things in different cultures, so the middle finger might mean something else in eastern europe.

In these particular cases (yours and the picture) the kids might have been fooled to believe that this symbol stands for something cool, which only the grown-ups do. But in general I would advise against flipping the middle finger - in Eastern Europe or anywhere else :)
