- inactive, on 05/24/2009, -56/+416The guy who pushed should be rewarded not punished. He was only thinking of the interest of the local area.
- CoreyHalliwell, on 05/24/2009, -3/+296THIS
IS
CHINA! - GoGoPoCoSo, on 05/24/2009, -2/+2788 meters? walk it off.
- MarkBrent, on 05/24/2009, -23/+256Title pretty much describes the whole story.
- GawtMilk, on 05/24/2009, -14/+211I love this about stories from official stories from state news sources here. "The paper said Lai was released on bail Friday but did not give any details. It said he had been on medication for "a mental illness" for decades and had been on his way to a hospital for his pills."
In case you cannot tell, this is *****. Made up by the Xinhua news agency (probably under pressure from the government) to justify a fairly rational event. The guy said why he did it - he pushed him on to a safety mat, knowing he wouldn't die, to get the ordeal over with so traffic could commence. He didn't do it because he was a deranged mental patient.
Press freedom in China is a joke, thank God we have private media here in Hong Kong. - AJShoes9789, on 05/24/2009, -5/+152Im gonna be surprised if this guy doesn't become Chinas next leader. He does things only for public interest. Pusher FTW!
- jamwil87, on 05/24/2009, -10/+137I wish you would step back from that ledge, my friend
- diemunkiesdie, on 05/24/2009, -11/+115I have to say, I see the pushers point.
- Swarms, on 05/24/2009, -3/+103I'm not your buddy, friend.
- metrenome, on 05/24/2009, -0/+98the look on the guy's face in that photo is priceless.
- gdo01, on 05/24/2009, -0/+95The most important part of this story is that the fall was 26 feet (8 meters). This guy wasn't going to kill himself from that height unless he managed to land on his head or his neck. Otherwise, he just facing a few broken bones.
- ghatid, on 05/24/2009, -1/+92I'm Asian, and I can attest to the fact that I, along with all of my relatives, can jump great distances, but alas, we can not fly.
- Brak710101, on 05/24/2009, -3/+93When I read the headline, I assumed the guy actually pushed the suicidal man off the side to his death.
From suicide to murder in 3 seconds! - Pinkertinkle, on 05/24/2009, -3/+84I remember when some jerk did that on the Bay Bridge and held up all the traffic for about 8 or 9 hours a few years ago. I'm sure not a small number of people would have pushed him over given the chance.
- ryanonfire, on 05/24/2009, -1/+81Yeah that's only two stories.
- MerchantofPanic, on 05/24/2009, -1/+79Lai Jiansheng - while others talk about it, he gets things done.
- GumGuts, on 05/24/2009, -18/+92You could cut ties with all the ries you've been riving in
- mrb4b00, on 05/24/2009, -0/+73As a long time resident of Guangzhou, I would applaud for this pusher.
The bridge is constructed many many years ago, and has only two lanes, every few weeks or so some people would climb up and threaten to commit suicide for almost everything, like losing a job, divorce, etc.
When they do they pretty much block up the bridge and bascially halts the area to a stop. Most of the time they won't even jump, they only do it for media attention to their problems. This old man, like the rest, is probably fed up with this bullsh*t and does what is necessary for everybody else. - rabidbob, on 05/24/2009, -1/+72Proof all Asians can fly: http://www.flickr.com/photos/marianitoz/2395997833 ...
- chamorro, on 05/24/2009, -2/+69"I pushed him off because jumpers like Chen are very selfish. Their action violates a lot of public interest," Lai was quoted as saying by Xinhua. "They do not really dare to kill themselves. Instead, they just want to raise the relevant government authorities' attention to their appeals."
With the height of the drop being only 8 meters I believe Lai Jiansheng was right on point. - montaverde, on 05/24/2009, -1/+63Slightly different from the 'Yes Man' approach...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cBz5IdxITP8 - Ommatidia, on 05/24/2009, -0/+56Anybody notice the height of the bridge? It's only a 26 foot drop.
Anybody attempting to kill themselves from that short of a fall really should do the human race a favor and just off themselves (but in a better way than jumping off of a 26 ft bridge). - ghatid, on 05/24/2009, -0/+57He was going to try to kill himself by dropping 20-30 feet? Even without a air cushion, he could have survived that...
- TheTaoOfBill, on 05/24/2009, -1/+56I'm Asian too. Can you tell me pran to take over America? I forgot!
- spepin, on 05/24/2009, -11/+64Well, gave him what he wanted I guess.
- bloodinmystool, on 05/24/2009, -11/+62You could cut ties with all the lies that you-- *SHOVE*
- waynehoggett, on 05/24/2009, -0/+50Video was much better than the article.
- ZombieSociety, on 05/24/2009, -2/+52I'm not your friend, guy.
- inactive, on 05/24/2009, -0/+43Russian's could do that two times over, given enough vodka!
- tgc1, on 05/24/2009, -0/+41I'm more impressed that the 66 year old man just climbed up that bridge rail so quick and just flat out didn't give a ***** and pushed him off. Hahahahaha. Way to go old man. I just hope i'm as limber and able at that age.
- Ki77erB, on 05/24/2009, -0/+40I agree with rabidbob. I killed myself after jumping only 1 story and landing on my head, so I can tell you from experience that it works.
- omgmuffins, on 05/24/2009, -3/+42I'm not your guy, buddy.
- Tenareth, on 05/24/2009, -0/+38Rub some dirt in it...

http://james.nerdiphythesoul.com/bennyhillifier/?i ... - oda1, on 05/24/2009, -8/+40I'm not your buddy, *****.
- x0mb13, on 05/24/2009, -4/+35actually it really doesn`t. not really at all, doesn`t comment on the suicidal nature of a dude, his debt, the reason the other guy pushed him, the fact that he pushed him
- fireinbergen, on 05/24/2009, -3/+34He did it Wong!
- notoneofus, on 05/24/2009, -0/+29How do you turn around on the Bay Bridge?
- maz2331, on 05/24/2009, -4/+33After about an hour, it's time for the SWAT team to just blow him off there and get it over with already. ***** or get off the pot, or bridge, as the case may be.
- elperegrino, on 05/24/2009, -0/+27according to my rulebook (GURPS 4th ed), assuming average HP (10) the faller will take 3d6 damage from an 8 yard fall. so, not counting crits, 3-18 points damage - and even 18 isn't gonna kill him if there are medics to help.
so you're absolutely right - he'd need to fall badly to kill himself. otherwise, he'll likely walk it off. - darthjure, on 05/24/2009, -1/+28Actually I like the original title "Passer-by pushes suicide jumper in south China" better.
- inactive, on 05/24/2009, -7/+33This is why china will be the next superpower.
- kimbja98, on 05/24/2009, -0/+26Suicide like that is incredibly selfish, there are many other ways to off yourself whilst causing minimal disruption.
Last time I was on a train and someone jumped onto the tracks, a journey that should have taken 25 mins took 3 hours! And I was in the train behind the one that had killed the man. The people next to me would have had some things to say to the man if he somehow survived:p - julian02392, on 05/24/2009, -0/+25Oh I guess I should RTFA, I thought he was trying to help him kill himself when he was only trying to throw him onto the safety balloon-thing(?).
- tehknotte, on 05/24/2009, -3/+28haha good job mr. Lai!
- oda1, on 05/24/2009, -2/+27yeaah... I'm gonna go ahead and agree with you there.
- sekander94, on 05/24/2009, -0/+25Anybody notice the height of the bridge?
The guy above you did. -
