- sepllcehck, on 10/12/2007, -0/+127Strangely enough - he seemed like a pretty rational and nice guy. He couldn't have been more polite to the reporter.
- zachgc, on 10/12/2007, -1/+39That's what I was thinking... It's creepy that someone who seems so "normal" on the surface could turn around and possibly shoot and kill someone.
- AU542, on 10/12/2007, -0/+76That right there is nobility. "Where have I been? I was in Jack in the Box. Getting a soda. A Sprite."
- gronne, on 10/12/2007, -2/+39Maybe he's telling the truth and the shooting was justified.
- baronvonnasty, on 10/12/2007, -6/+37He did seem like a nice guy. He spoke vey well and seemed educated and I applaud him for that. He's the man.
Shoot'em, Johnny, Shoot'em. - Chongo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+23"He speaks so well, He's so well spoken...."
- Chris Rock: Bring the pain - SpencerFry, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9I agree completely. Doesn't seem like a murderer to me.
- whisperedlie, on 10/12/2007, -20/+54i like how when a black man is on TV like this, someone inevitably makes a comment about how suprised they are because he's "so well spoken", as if he's supposed to be some drooling savage.
- fitzfan, on 10/12/2007, -8/+38"i like how when a black man is on TV like this, someone inevitably makes a comment about how suprised they are because he's "so well spoken", as if he's supposed to be some drooling savage."
It didnt have anythign to do with race u moron, most people just think of a crazy creepy person when they think of murderers. like this
http://mirrorimageorigin.collegepublisher.com/media/paper275/stills/03795ivl.jpg - clayanderson, on 10/12/2007, -12/+13@whisperedlie: I understand your point, but that doesn't make us all racists. Here we have a black man in an urban setting wearing a wife-beater undershirt who has allegely just shot someone. The behavior, the environment, and the dress of the guy all indicate someone who is very likely less-educated. So it is not bigotry to be surprised that his demeanor does not correspond to his other observed traits. Really, did any of us expect him to sound as calm and intelligent as he did, and to demonstrate a bizarre measure of integrity by 1) turning himself in, and 2) attempting to protect his son?
- da_bradler, on 10/12/2007, -0/+36jack in the box and sprite are running a new campagn "stressed out cause you just shot your neighbor? reporters hounding you for answers? forget all that and come down for a nice refreashing sprite at jack in the box where we don't care who you may or may not have shot"
- newevilmind, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2@zackgc it's the "normal" ones you have to watch out for.
- banjokazooie, on 10/12/2007, -11/+5Gasp! He's drinking SPRITE?!? He must be some kinda sicko! Lock him up! Lock him up, I say!!
- borb, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Now I agree that the price should be paid for murder. But that dude obviously knew that he did something wrong. The reporter was just a complete ass.
- neocitron, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1he was aware of his wrong doings.. he can't plead for insanity.. THAT was video evidence he was sane..... he might be protecting his son but if guilty will the father will get the full sentence... the Smart ones act insane for a lighter penalty.... but he seemed like a reasonable person. Interesting.
- toosas, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6remember - don't harass your neighbor. and for me, as a foreigner, questions the reporter asked in that situation are plain dumb. if that is called journalism.. should say the killer was hilariously polite..
- ocram, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1"Smart ones act insane for a lighter penalty"
I would have to disagree. Smart ones wouldn't shoot their neighbour. What kind of dispute would warrant such an extreme? - MrSunshine, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1fitzfan, you are saying that balding men with moustache are creepy? You are full of prejudice.
- dmron, on 10/12/2007, -2/+48Funny, but that reporter is a major tool. "Sir, did you know the police are looking for you? Did you shoot your neighbor? Did you kill your neighbor?"
- Nerf, on 10/12/2007, -3/+24"im going to turn myself in" "so you did shoot your neighbor?" "im turning my self in"
- cmical, on 10/12/2007, -1/+25The reporter just had the biggest break in his career -- even a national news outlet picked it up. You know that was going through his head when he realized who he was talking to.
- BaconBits, on 10/12/2007, -6/+40It seems to me, that if he killed anyone, they deserved it.
- khag7, on 10/12/2007, -7/+15for that guy to kill someone they MUST have deserved it. the best part was at the beginning when the reporter went over and the suspect was on his phone and he just ignored the reporter for a few seconds. he was probalby thinking "yo ***** the police and their charges, i'm on the goddamn phone right now" haha. nice guy though.
- elnerdo, on 10/12/2007, -4/+6Oh Lord how I wish the system worked like that. It's too bad it doesn't.
- rekrapt, on 10/12/2007, -1/+27Why? Because he was well-spoken? People said the same thing about Ted Bundy.
- MindTrigger, on 10/12/2007, -2/+16
Must have deserved being murdered? I hate to say this, but you guys are out of your friggin' minds. If you are in a 9-10 year ongoing dispute with your neighbor that causes you to be filled with that kind of rage, then you should MOVE. Does it suck to have to move because you neighbors are insane, or dangerous, or irritating? Sure it does, but now this guy is going to prison for murder. Unless he was protecting himself or someone else from a physical attack, he was in no way justified in killing them. The fact that many of you think this way is disturbing. Not to menion that just because this guy was nice to the TV guy, doesn't mean he's not a sociopath. In fact the murder itself seems to indicate HE IS. Does he seem calm to you for someone who just gave his neighbor a dirt nap? He went to get a god samn soda for god sakes. - Sibre, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7So far, what I'm getting from most comments here is that just because this guy seems so well spoken and calm, that means that whoever he happened to murder must have deserved it? That seems a bit asinine to me. There are people out there who can murder lots of people and be perfectly calm about it afterward. They usually call these people serial killers and they need serious help. I'm not saying this guy is or isn't, but basing justified murder on the fact that he can handle himself well in front of a dumb-ass reporter is just plain stupidity.

- teamparadox, on 10/12/2007, -23/+10The audio of this was on the Howard Stern Show yesterday, it was good stuff. The guy walks up and the reporter starts asking him some questions. The guy was very composed but he kept saying no comment when asked if he actually shot anyone but he was adament that his son had nothing to do with it.
- teamparadox, on 10/12/2007, -30/+2im kind of confused as to why i was mod'd down here...
- vhcougar, on 10/12/2007, -1/+23maybe because we all know what happens because we all saw the video 30 seconds ago?
- s0ny, on 10/12/2007, -14/+2Because your a whiny little beotch. so STFU!
j/k
- FantasykeyX, on 10/12/2007, -5/+3Lol, that was pretty funny, suddenly the suspect just walks into the news area.
- ryanknapper, on 10/12/2007, -0/+69Everyone knows Sprite™ is best for washing down a tasty burger.

- aOenEz, on 10/12/2007, -4/+6Mmm Mmm, that is a tasty burger.
- jeremyh42, on 10/12/2007, -9/+4You know, normally I don't get to eat burgers. My girlfriend is a vegetarian, which pretty much makes me a vegetarian too...
- Chaulis, on 10/12/2007, -13/+3From a legal stand point, while it's kinda obvious what happened, he hurt him self pretty badly by saying what he said. The prosecution is going to have a field day with this video.
- cderry, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3"From a legal stand point, while it's kinda obvious what happened, he hurt him self pretty badly by saying what he said. The prosecution is going to have a field day with this video."
Especially when he said, "...And now it's over."
- cderry, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3"From a legal stand point, while it's kinda obvious what happened, he hurt him self pretty badly by saying what he said. The prosecution is going to have a field day with this video."
- Mace37, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10Wow, he turns himself to clear his son's name. He seems somewhat rational, I'd like to see the follow-up to this.
- chicagobiker, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13Life in prison for murder. Hope that Sprite was good.
- lolox, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I wonder if Jack in a box sponsors after-murder refreshments.
- Lumiras, on 10/12/2007, -0/+26Geez, just because the guy is polite, you think he's not guilty. There are numerous articulate and well behaved murderers out there.
Man, what a catch for the reporter. Talk about being in the right place at the right time- mictlanian, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3yeah, just look at Hannibal Lecter.
But, seriously just because someone is a murderer doesn't mean he's a incoherently speaking, crazy-eyed, hate-filled lunatic. - Ozymandias42, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4I would argue that there are not well-behaved murderers out there. Murdering people is behaving poorly. Behaving well and behaving poorly are mutually exclusive. Q.E.D.
Now, there may be GENERALLY well-behaved murderers out there. - AuAndCs, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Ever read "In Cold Blood" by Truman Capote?
- TechnoGuyRob, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"Behaving well and behaving poorly are mutually exclusive. Q.E.D."
...that is the most thoughtless thing I have seen said today. No one can behave well and poorly in their lifetime? What about St. Augustine? The person who Catch Me If You Can was based on? Just about every single teenager?
- mictlanian, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3yeah, just look at Hannibal Lecter.
- PaulGriffin, on 10/12/2007, -2/+13The neighbor had to be a real bitch for those 8 years for him to shoot him.
- ManHammer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9I'm curious what happened to this guy...someone post a follow-up news report.
- spindrift, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3Sorta misleading - I mean yeah, the title IS what happened, and it's sensational TV, but was I the only one who thought that it was going to be a guy who happened on to the cameras by accident? Like, they weren't directly at the crime scene, but right as they're showing a composite police sketch or something, the dude who matches it ambles across the background holding a Sprite.
Also, the reporter is an idiot. I'm not sure how tethered down those news cameras are, but would it have been so hard to follow the guy into the station like he INVITED him to? Talk about scoop! But no, nobody shall take away his mediocrity. The soon-to-be-prisoner handled himself very well.- drgruney, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The cameras are very tethered. Granted by a long cable, but it's a bitch to move a rig at the drop of a hat. Besides, his producers probably didn't have the time. I wouldn't make to restack the show, him going into the police station would not be compelling and wouldn't bring any new information.
- ChuckIT, on 10/12/2007, -0/+20i like how he smiled when he said Sprite. obay your thrist. after you off someone
- silent1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+15Obey your thirst? "My thirst told me to shoot my neighbor and his son ..."
- Mac2492, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Maybe he was thirsty for blood.
- LeiTuppi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+14The matter-of-fact Sprite/Jack-in-the-Box comment was perfect. Also, the unscripted format points out how utterly worthless local newsmen really are.
- VipeNess, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7That is the new model for Spirte! lol yea he shot his neighbor, just by him looking down, his movements, etc etc. too bad, sprite could have used him.
- fleetskeet, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Real killers drink Tab.
- rekrapt, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6Real killers drink too much alcohol...
- kevinHaney, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Real killer drink sprite!
- slstsang, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4That stupid reporter's got some major balls! he repeatedly asked the guy if he killed his neighbour, this just shows how stupid some reporters are, i mean, are you setious? you think he's gonna say he's guilty on national TV? It is reporters like him that get capped in the ass.
- Neploxo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Not just that, but the guy's trying to turn himself in, and the reporter keeps asking him to wait. Almost seems like obstruction of justice to keep a suspect from turning himself in. I think it was very, very smart of the guy to do that, any help to the prosecution aside. Anyone watching that broadcast knows he was rational, did not appear to be armed, and was not combative. In a world where a black man suspected of murder is likely to be gunned down by antsy cops, you want to a) avoid prolonging the situation b) avoid anything that might seem antagonistic.
- primal, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5The local news station that did the interview: http://www.nbc4.tv/index.html
This story is still on the front page.- bashar129, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"Lamar Odom's Son Found Dead In Crib" I know that this is irrelevant but, wow, caught me completely off guard. Dead babies make me sad.

- mp3dog, on 10/12/2007, -8/+19Flash video is where it's at, people (YouTube, GoogleVideo, etc.)
WHY THE F#CK is anyone still using .wmv encoding???!!!
Buffering Buffering Buffering... Bill Gates and Microsoft can buffer my left nut!- hobophobe, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Flash isn't that great, actually. It's easy, though, and most sites using flash video support the antiquated flash 7 which is the best linux has. While .wmv isn't great either, at least you can easily download the .wmv. Just do that instead of buffering it.
- Toupee, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/2390/
You can easily download a flash video too. Except I can actually watch it in my browser because it WORKS!
- zero2die, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3seemed like a nice guy on the outside neighbors must of really pissed him off
- xenoploid, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13Why would you ask repeated questions and agitate a suspected murderer?
- drgruney, on 10/12/2007, -9/+2To get an admission of guilt. You think police interrigators just ask a question one time?
- chicagobiker, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8To look like a hard hitting journalist who can really get the story and eventually advance your career so you're sitting on the anchor desk of the nightly network news making a couple mil a year instead of standing in some parking lot doing voiceover on a videotape of some local shooting.
- bennyboy371, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7I don't know, if someone was annoying the ***** out of you for a decade, regardless of how rational things may be, you wouldn't think "move" you'd think "kick their ass"

- Kajico, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4no he said: my son didn't drive a get away car, that's fart- that's the farthest from the truth.
- 0zzy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4That's awesome. He just heads off to Jack in the Box after he kills his neighbor, comes back talks to the news crew, hahaha that's just funny.
- Mace37, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I thought that the third time he asked him if he killed the neighbour, he'd say yes for sure!
I guess it takes more to crack a guy like that. - asspants, on 10/12/2007, -13/+2This is old news, it was on the digg front page like 2 weeks ago! How does this crap keep getting on the front page?!!!!!!1111oneoneone

There is a reason people are surprised. Most black people that you see on television, especially ones accused of a crime, don't talk like that. They talk ***** and gangsta. Not that most black people are like that, but most of the ones you see on TV are. - trunkster, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Sure.. conveniently walk up behind the cameras..
