- mightymouse, on 10/12/2007, -5/+56She's not wearing a helmet.
- blackjack75, on 10/12/2007, -3/+41I was googling for "highschool german girl ride dirty tricks" and I ended up here.
- catatonic, on 10/12/2007, -1/+30It's actually a normal weight bike...that's a Fixed gear bike, looks to be of the "track bike" variety. Those weight between 17 and 30lbs, depending on what class track racing you are into.
Fixed gear means it lacks a freewheel, so by merely pedaling backwards, you will go backwards....you also cannot coast. Since you cannot coast, by slowing down your pedaling, you can stop the bike. In track racing, brakes are not allowed, so you have slow down your pedaling to stop...that's actually a safety thing.
I've been track bike shopping for a while now...they are great bikes, and relatively inexpensive too, $400 can get you a decent entry-level one.
She flipped the track drop bars on her bike, so they could be used to stabilize her body. This is pretty common amongst stunt riders.
She definately has some mad bike skills....I'd love to get some bike handling pointers from her anytime. - GregR, on 10/12/2007, -4/+32That's amazing!

- cazabam, on 10/12/2007, -5/+31or to reword slightly "slightly longer than my childlike attention span ... no digg"
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+26She is amazingly skilled, but that bike must also be a feat of craftsmanship as well. It looks like it weighs almost nothing, and must be perfectly balanced. Props to the designer...
- MuzikFreec, on 10/12/2007, -1/+18The caption under the video is misleading, because as catatonic pointed out, that can't be a 10 speed bike if she can go backwards just by reversing her pedaling. I was still impressed.
- kamilX, on 10/12/2007, -4/+21the fact that she does do these tricks for a long time makes it all the more diggworthy...
it's just impressive. - eleven, on 10/12/2007, -4/+18Agreed - I don't think too many people can ride a bike like that.
- Wahngrok, on 10/12/2007, -1/+15Actually, she is an athlete. The sport is called "artistic cycling" which is mostly dominated by germans (not bragging, just stating a fact). Contrary to the caption the girl is not riding a ten speed bike but one especially designed for this sport.
The event during which this clip was filmed is an end-of-term assembly of an university where she is a student.
German wikipedia link: http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kunstradfahren - SPARTACVS, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11Sweet. I saw a guy like this at a street performers festival. He only did the standing on handlebars/seat thing, but he juggled 2 machetes and 2 torches while doing it.
- rolosworld, on 10/12/2007, -7/+11the amazing thing is the type of bike she uses...
- crashingechelon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I was gonna mention that on a comment, cause I'm a mountain biker and I know you cant peddle backwards or move the handle bars the way she did, so I knew something had to be up. Thanks catatonic for explaining it.
- randersontt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4If the Chinese had made the movie, Titanic, her music would have been on the soundtrack!
If she had better music I bet she wouldn't be doing school assemblies. Anyway, - great riding. I'm sure there are a lot of teenagers who can do similar tricks, but I bet they can't come anywhere close to doing that many tricks in 4 minutes without even a wobble, and with such graceful transitions. I'm guessing also that she is a trained acrobat. Quite impressive. - dargon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Hmm, Freestyle Cycling. If it impresses you, go look up the movie by Kevin Bacon called Quicksilver, it has some of what were considered the worlds best at the time (80's) doing most of those very tricks. The actual scenes with the tricks are reasonably short, but there are a couple during the movie which is about 90 min long.
- cazabam, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5Very impressive stuff. Certainly the way she handled transfers between sitting/standing on different parts of the bike (e.g. from saddle to sitting on the front wheel) without so much as a wobble was amazing in itself.
- artish, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Good show, but the music is pain!
- skalover, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3wow someone needs to get her on a bmx bike!
- solidsmoke, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I enjoyed this, however, I was slightly disappointed when she started repeating old tricks.
- final_sound, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2would have been better with "send me an angel" playing in the background. c'mon, any RAD fans out there?
- andrewjw, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3She must be from the circus.
- alteeffour, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4This video reminds me of BMX flatland in the 80's have you seen more recent flatland where they don't have direct drive to control their direction and balance? a quick search found this http://video.google.ca/videoplay?docid=-1182349807883404253
- GrendelT, on 10/12/2007, -3/+53 days ago == ages? Get real.
You're just jealous someone else's story made it and your's didn't. Boo hoo. - OneAndOnlySnob, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3That chick has balls.
Wait, no she doesn't.
Maybe that's why she's not afraid to do that stuff. - senselessending, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Meh, I mean I understand that this is number one because people liked it and dugg it to the top. I've just been to alot of freestyle bike demos and this is absolutely nothing. If you're interested in this, there are hundreds of freestyle riders like this and I really don't think this is that extraordinary considering.
I thought it was very beautiful with the music though, she definitely reinvented it into a different artform. - avester, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4if she was a guy I don't think she could pull some of those tricks off (for obviouse reasons)
=) - mongeau, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I was thinking the same thing. She's good, but she's no Cru Jones. Bicycle boogie anyone?!
http://imdb.com/title/tt0091817/ - AncientTV, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1She's good, thats a really well balanced bike too. dugg
- Phunkjay, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I'm sorry, but BMX Flatland is waaaaay more difficult ! Pro BMX flatland bikes do NOT have fixed gears (and often no brakes either) which means the riders have an insane sense of balance. The fixed gear on her bike turns her bike into something like a unicycle which is quite easy to learn. I'm not dissin' her, but the stuff she is doing is easy against what pro flatlanders do nowadays !
Go here and do a page search for "Justin Miller" and check out the video.

Enjoy,
Jay - jaxxon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Dang! That gave me chills. As someone who rides a unicycle, I can tell you that those tricks are a lot of work to develop! Good show. :)
- oarpie, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1here's a great site dedicated to fixies. I love the stripped down look but they are incredibly hard to get used to. http://www.fixedgeargallery.com/
- MrSunshine, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Might as well flood Digg with Youtube videos of BMX and skateboarders...
- BassJunkie, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Incredible! I'd hate to think how long it took her to learn some of those tricks, and I'd hate to have fallen off trying to learn those awesome vertical wheelies :-)
- JamieThompson90, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Not a fan of the music but i totally digg the riding, as a cyclist i can only imagine the time and practice put into that routine. Very Well done!
- benjholla, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3twinkyjesus could you please post a video of you riding the bicycle like that, you say its pretty easy, but if it were then this wouldn't be the first time so many of us have seen a trick like that. And for the comment that many of us should get outside and do something instead of digg and dwell on comments all day, then why are you still digging and dwelling in the comments? Personally I feel that is a little hypocritical. No offense to you or anything it just annoys me when people make comments like that, when they are doing the same thing.
- Sartorelll, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Fantastic mind control. Very good talent.
- WeStA, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1But the tricks that she repeated were changed in some way or another. Like the bike going backwards or her facing backwards.
- easycheez, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3@silvertrigger - I thought the same thing, there was a couple times I thought she'd go up on her hands. I think this is much better than BMX and takes more skill. With BMX they have a ton of forward momentum which makes balancing and tricking much easier. She, on the other hand, was dealing with very slow speeds which requires more balance and agility. Not to mention she looked damn graceful too.
- atsidor, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I wondered the same. It added to the gracefulness and elegance of the performance.
- fieldDigg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0@ 1983GTSantaana
track bike. not a 10 speed.
[ cant propel yourself backwards by pedaling backwards on a 10 spd ] - IcyWings8, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2wow...Ive seen better, but it is still amazing! That bike is very well designed too.
- shosterman, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3She's hot, is she riding a new model from Schwing!
- WeStA, on 10/12/2007, -6/+6I wish I could ride a bike like that.
- kodeiko, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Any idea what's the name of the music track playing in the background?
- glucoseboy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Master of Champions Baby!!!!!
:-) - maci01, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Are you done talking yet?
And the girl is amazing. - Saintlink, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1The music is by Vanessa Mae.
- theharlotfelon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I think she just made some track modifications on that bike. If it IS an actual track bike, then she must have definetly learned to do that stuff on another bike, because I'm sure just doing some of the tricks would tend to mess up your wheelsets. Will probalby need to true those wheels after every session. Would be awesome if she played it not safe and went clipless (though probably impossible). Also, I noticed her back cog must have been switched out; seems like a 17t or 19t...
