- tobsterius, on 03/03/2009, -3/+69It's pretty clear to me that he learned how to stab from playing violent video games...
- OneRottenTomato, on 03/03/2009, -0/+38"...the boy citing "inspiration" from a Power Rangers game that involved throwing knives, and of the family suffering from a history of domestic violence at the hands of their estranged father."
Hold on! Hold on! You're doing it wrong.

There we go. Now we can sue the censor video game industry. - jba68, on 03/03/2009, -3/+41Le stab... le hurts
- inactive, on 03/03/2009, -0/+32What a normal person sees: "from a Power Rangers game that involved throwing knives, and of the family suffering from a history of domestic violence."
What the media sees: "from a Power Rangers game that involved throwing knives." - HaSatan, on 03/03/2009, -2/+26Sacrebleu!!
- nerdherder, on 03/03/2009, -1/+25But I am le tired...
- tobsterius, on 03/03/2009, -0/+22yep... as sarcastic as text can be.
- JRW5061, on 03/03/2009, -0/+19It will only be a matter of time before he is found jumping on turtles. These violent games must be stopped!!
- prettyawesome, on 03/03/2009, -0/+14Grand Theft Au--Oh, Power Rangers? Wow. The evil mind-controlling video games are spreading.
- nerdherder, on 03/03/2009, -0/+13The ds stylus is clearly a metaphor for a shiv.
- darrin60, on 03/03/2009, -7/+19Following the incident, the country of France immediately surrendered.
- Grazfather, on 03/03/2009, -0/+11You're right, the game is totally to blame over the abusive father.
- mavranos, on 03/03/2009, -1/+12*****! *****! Who the ***** is stabbing us!
- starfall87, on 03/03/2009, -0/+11Update for those who do not read the article:
"Oh dear. This gets worse. Surgeons have determined that after operating on the poor girl "a child of 5 could not have made a blow of such force". Turns out the mother is suspected of stabbing her own daughter, and has been remanded in custody. The boy/DS thing was just a cover-up story." - kelmaster1, on 03/03/2009, -0/+9FTA:
"...citing "inspiration" from a Power Rangers game that involved throwing knives, and of the family suffering from a history of domestic violence at the hands of their estranged father."
Hmm, is it a video game? or abusive father?
Has to be video games... The father wasn't even there, duh.
:P - AmnesiacJack, on 03/03/2009, -1/+10If she didn't immediately surrender the DS it's obvious she's a foreign spy that snuck in through the mothers womb.
- inactive, on 03/03/2009, -3/+12Only in France would a criminal get off on Power Rangers!
- Trekhawk, on 03/03/2009, -1/+9When will the French do something about those assault knives plaguing society!? There's no reason the average person needs that sort of killing-power. /s
- altgeeky1, on 03/03/2009, -1/+9MOST people believe France did the morally correct thing when they declared war against Hitler and the Axis powers.
Who cares if the Little Guy gets his ass kicked standing up to the Bully... at least the right thing was done. Don't mock France for that. - patriot050, on 03/03/2009, -1/+9well then take a nap ... THEN FIRE THE MISSILES!!!!
- MaxEvans, on 03/03/2009, -1/+8Future killer right there.
- inactive, on 03/03/2009, -0/+6I can't help but wonder if a kid has ever done that because Mario does..lol
- hyperspaztik, on 03/03/2009, -1/+7Apparently this was no game.
- skybythelight, on 03/03/2009, -0/+6The kid might have seen this in power rangers, but the experience of domestic violence is probably what caused him to do it.
- kayleeking, on 03/03/2009, -5/+10I hope that was sarcastic.
- Oracle95, on 03/03/2009, -0/+5That's French for "I surrender."
- lilhelper, on 03/03/2009, -1/+61 incident does not outweight billions of kids that play video games.
Clearly the kid was not taught what was right and what was wrong. that is the true culprit.
His family had history of domestic violence, bingo! - rawnzilla, on 03/03/2009, -1/+6Was it modded?
- jetboyterp, on 03/03/2009, -4/+9Sign him up for military service. He'll be the first French soldier to maybe...oh...defend his country the next time it's invaded.
- fxu1989, on 03/03/2009, -1/+6Le lol
- mstachiw, on 03/03/2009, -0/+4OBJECTION!
- tHr333, on 03/04/2009, -0/+4UPDATE - Oh dear. This gets worse. Surgeons have determined that after operating on the poor girl "a child of 5 could not have made a blow of such force". Turns out the mother is suspected of stabbing her own daughter, and has been remanded in custody. The boy/DS thing was just a cover-up story.
Mom's a bitch. - awtripp, on 03/03/2009, -0/+4Power Rangers DS is serious business.
- nerdherder, on 03/03/2009, -0/+4The one place they never thought to look!
- Zippo, on 03/03/2009, -0/+4FTA: "family suffering from a history of domestic violence at the hands of their estranged father."
Ya know, I think that might have had something to do with it... certainly more so than a DS game. - faizal5k, on 03/05/2009, -0/+3*UPDATE* It was actually the mother who stabbed the little girl. The mother used the DS story as a cover-up. These are some ***** UP parents, and these children need to be adopted.
- Data33, on 03/03/2009, -0/+3Bout that time eh, chaps?
- Diffy, on 03/03/2009, -0/+3AHHHHHH MOTHERLAND!
- holyskeleton, on 03/03/2009, -2/+5He could also get inspirations from his mom cutting up the meat in the kitchen.
- skewer324, on 03/03/2009, -1/+3This never would have gained any sort of notoriety if there wasn't a video game in the room. Humans are brutal, vicious, and violent, and we've been hurting and killing each other for a long time before the original "downfall of society" printing press was invented.
This is a tragedy, but that it wouldn't be given attention otherwise is nothing short of disgusting. - Weip, on 03/03/2009, -0/+2I'm french-canadian and I don't know why someone have to write "sacrébleu" everytime there is french news on digg's FP. Where did you get that? What does it mean? No one use it in french :/
- rrasco, on 03/03/2009, -2/+4see, not all French are pussies.
- cxnull, on 03/04/2009, -0/+2The coroner found that the boy could not possibly have struck his sister with that much force. The mother was questioned thoroughly and she finally admitted having stabbed her daughter, and to having convinced the son to tell the video game story.
- dstz, on 03/03/2009, -0/+2Some people actually ask themselves the same question, in all seriousness:
http://www.economist.com/science/tm/displaystory.c ... - tgjerusalem, on 03/03/2009, -0/+2Beyond the hysteria over video games overwhelming the more obvious problems of a child from an abusive household likewise becoming violent, the kid is five.
At five, no kid ever has a full grasp of mortality, the consequences of their own actions, or even the full distinction between themselves and others. A lot of five y/o kids might stab their sibling if given the chance, because at five they aren't in control of their emotions and don't understand the difference in harm caused by a punch vs. a stab.
This isn't about video games, it's about keeping pointy objects out of a five year old's reach. - sidewinderaim9x, on 03/03/2009, -0/+2I didn't know the French fight.
- TonyTheTerrible, on 03/03/2009, -1/+3ive done worse over less regarding nintendo handhelds..
- SammyJr, on 03/03/2009, -0/+2The only bright side to this story is that it happened in France. If it was in the United States, the family would probably be facing bankruptcy from medical bills.
- das897, on 03/03/2009, -4/+6lol @ defending France.
- Cladouros, on 03/04/2009, -0/+1I was just about to say it. Poor boy...
