- acmephoto, on 04/10/2008, -2/+7I'm a professional photographer and I'm happy to share quick "on the job" setups and snibbits from my photo shoots w/ my fans / friends. Why drive them off to another site? BTW, same userID on flickr as here.
- kw69, on 04/10/2008, -4/+8YouTube is for video and Flickr is for photos. Seems clear to me. Now we have videos dirtying up the photo pools. Please don't video in the pool!
- drewolanoff, on 06/10/2008, -5/+9I don't think it's a big deal honestly. 90 second clips that EVERYONE records on their digital cameras now have a home.
Small video clips tell a story that complement photos. - Haeretik, on 04/09/2008, -6/+10Video has no place on Flickr... this caught many of us by surprise and we all signed up and paid for (those of us that did) our Flickr accounts because Flickr is a wonderful PHOTOGRAPHY site built for PHOTOGRAPHERS. I have no issue if Yahoo/Flickr wants to pursue video options, but it should be as a sister site to Flickr, not mashed in together with the existing site.
- toastiest, on 04/09/2008, -3/+6There are very few bastions of the internet that are free of moving images, and I liked that Flickr was one of them. I pay for my account, and it's not much. If Flickr had said, "We need to raise the paid account price if you want Flickr to remain photos-only" I'd have said FINE.
I wouldn't care so much if I hadn't seen basic photo organizing features ignored for so long. Now they'll spend all their capital on video crap. Will it trickle down to the photo interfaces? I hope so. - onestyle, on 04/10/2008, -1/+4In support of the No Video's crowd, I'm tagging all of my current and future videos with the tag "NoVideo"
It saddens me that over 50,000 photos have been tagged with "NoVideo" while only two videos have been tagged with "NoVideo" and both of them are mine.

But two is better than none and I can only hope that I can set the standard for other videos to follow.
Please upload more videos and tag them with "NoVideo". The goal is to have 50,000 videos tagged this way. Let our actions speak for us, at a volume so great, that Flickr cannot ignore us. Lets wipe video off of Flickr once and for all. - 43rdstreet, on 04/09/2008, -2/+4Cnet article - http://www.news.com/8301-13580_3-9915424-39.html?p ...
- IrmasGuerito, on 04/13/2008, -0/+2I've seen a lot of good photography on flickr, but also paintings, drawings, and graphics. I love to see an artist's whole spectrum in one place, that's why I welcome video on flickr.
- ursonate, on 04/10/2008, -3/+5Hmmm, I dunno. I've already seen some pretty compelling stuff so far. I don't have a problem with video. I don't think Flickr is going to turn into YouTube. Besides, if you disallow video, then doesn't that support the argument against other things that aren't photos such as illustrations, graphics and other artwork?
- iamblueman4, on 04/10/2008, -3/+4Videos can stay on YouTube or some other site. Flickr is for photos and it should stay that way. Don't ruin a good thing.
- dawpa2000, on 04/19/2008, -0/+1Why not create a filter or extension to remove videos from your view?
- Tiler, on 04/10/2008, -1/+2That was me. :-)
- thebadrash, on 04/09/2008, -4/+5Not everyone has that actually. Video is generally only available on compacts. DSLRs don't support it.
The point is that Flickr is a photography site. Photography and video are two very different things and the way Flickr is designed, as well as its current (very strong) community, mean that it'll only ever be a second-rate video site.
That said, I'm not going to cancel my account or anything like that. I just hope that they withdraw this feature when they see that it just doesn't fit with what Flickr does. - stringendo, on 04/10/2008, -3/+4This is a blatantly mercenary move by Flickr/Yahoo to grab a slice of the YouTube pie without a thought to the impact on the thriving Flickr community which exists to celebrate PHOTOGRAPHY.
- gabmendes, on 05/14/2008, -0/+1flickr is a place for photographers! no videos please!
- eddiemiller9000, on 04/10/2008, -3/+4I like the photo's on Flickr and enjoy sharing my own images. The videos I have seen so far have been a mixed bag and I can not see how they improve the site overall.
- phrozen755, on 04/09/2008, -6/+7They limit videos to 90 seconds...its hardly a video-share site to begin with, why complain?
- HANNAHFELICITY, on 04/10/2008, -3/+4This is a really sad moment in Flickr history! We all joined Flickr because of it's dedication to Photography and Photographers. It's a fantastic community. If video is allowed it's going to cheapen the experience - it is going to take an artistic community and throw it into the trash bin of the wannabe famous for 5 minutes generation!
I for one have seen enough videos of people stuffing mintos into pepsi bottles, cute babies, stupid pets, people breakdancing - or monkeys riding bikes to last me a life-time!
Will someone please take note of how we want to run our Flickr community? I want Flickr to be a site which lasts and has integrity.
Cheers! :)
Hannahfelicity - Tiler, on 04/09/2008, -4/+4I agree with keeping Flickr's scope limited to photos. I'm afraid it's a no-win situation. Considering Yahoo's place on the sale block, I think they're in a situation where no press is bad press and the only thing that would really get their attention would be a mass exodus. I just don't see it happening.
- danielkwood, on 04/12/2008, -1/+1i don't want video on flickr! i mean, i love well-done videos but video has no place on flickr...i don't wanna see it ruined by people uploading stupid videos of themselves doing stupid things! the reason i joined flickr was for....wait for it...photos!
- uncleeric, on 04/10/2008, -4/+4Just another way to dumb down a good thing!
- 43rdstreet, on 04/10/2008, -3/+3How is this article, or any article about flickr video not on the frontpage yet?
- Tiler, on 04/09/2008, -5/+5Because it's the beginning of the dilution of a great photo community. It's not perfect but why does it NEED video? That's the question I don't see people answering.
- PotatoBill, on 04/11/2008, -2/+2Youtube is for videos, flickr is for photos.
you cant put photos on Youtube, and you shouldn't be able to put video on flickr. - rebel350D, on 04/09/2008, -4/+3Endorsed..
Microsoft needs to step off.. outrageous - oursin2, on 04/10/2008, -4/+3There are many sites for sharing videos. On Flickr I don't want videos, only photos.
- thebadrash, on 04/09/2008, -5/+4Yeah this is the point: why introduce a completely unnecessary feature when there are other things Flickr could be improving on? Who was asking for this? Seems like a pointless new feature which will divert development and resources away from the core of the site.
- IrmasGuerito, on 04/13/2008, -1/+0How would you know why I joined Flickr???
- thedude0000, on 04/10/2008, -2/+1I saw this picture on my recent uploaded via contacts and was hoping to digg it first. Some bastard beat me...

Facebook Group for all those interested... - DarioMaurelli, on 04/11/2008, -1/+0I am going to say why: Yahoo pushed an offer of Microsoft back, and surely they argue that the place will cost more now when videos can be loaded and this new option will attract more clients ...... and the photography really does not matter for Yahoo , money talks...
