- talonstriker, on 09/04/2008, -0/+23Hey baby, is your dad ugly?
- DeusAbsconditus, on 09/04/2008, -0/+12Unfortunately for you, all the ladies go crazy over a pair of sexy man ankles.
- Jhiaxuz, on 09/04/2008, -1/+13I hope the resemblances for a woman seeking a man are waist up...
- connieLingus, on 09/04/2008, -1/+12having a nice car and big bank account doesn't seem to hurt too much, either.
- DesiGUY, on 09/04/2008, -1/+11You have such full lips, are those DSL?
- cdigioia, on 09/04/2008, -0/+9Best summary ever.
- myhandleondigg, on 09/04/2008, -2/+11And now there are TWO "you wanna ***** your mom" articles in the top 5 on Digg?
- feshmania, on 09/04/2008, -2/+11if you can't keep it in your pants, keep it in the family
- inactive, on 09/04/2008, -0/+9who ISN'T ***** your mom?
- RyeBrye, on 09/04/2008, -2/+11My mom is 5'2" with dark hair. My wife is 5'9" with red hair.
I must have been adopted...? - Hincapie, on 09/04/2008, -0/+7what about nerdiness? do chicks with nerdy dads search for nerdy boyfriends? (yes)
- greenblob, on 09/04/2008, -1/+8Or her vag.
- kevcowiffle, on 09/04/2008, -2/+8When the exact same story made the front page yesterday, the phrase "dear old dad" annoyed me and creeped me out a little. Still does.
- connieLingus, on 09/04/2008, -0/+6classy.
- Greengoo, on 09/04/2008, -0/+5The guy's name is Randy Thornhill. He pretty much HAD to go into sexual research...
- ScionX, on 09/04/2008, -1/+6My wife looks/acts nothing like my mom.
In fact I don't think any of the women I've ever dated have ever had any resemblance to her. - jbella, on 09/04/2008, -1/+5Also doesn't explain why (by some statistics I've seen) over 60% of asian american women (born or raised in the US) marry outside of their race.
- laughandsing, on 09/04/2008, -0/+3I don't know but I think Nerdiness/geekyness is way sexy...
- inactive, on 09/04/2008, -1/+4What's is up with Digg's sudden Oedipus complex?
- inactive, on 09/04/2008, -0/+3I think I just had Déjà vu...
- inactive, on 09/04/2008, -1/+4Freud says "You're a *****."
- RobotBuddha, on 09/04/2008, -0/+3Unless they're on a birth control pill.
- inactive, on 09/04/2008, -0/+3Or her vag lips.
- discariot69, on 09/04/2008, -3/+6This is complete crap.
- Hincapie, on 09/04/2008, -0/+3amen to that
- avonalt, on 09/04/2008, -0/+3That's interesting. Another study found that women are more likely to be attracted to men that are genetically dissimilar, at least in terms of MHC genes.
http://www.progressdaily.com/2006/04/03/the-sweet- ... - DeskFlyer, on 09/04/2008, -0/+3Anyone who doesn't like fatties.
- laughandsing, on 09/04/2008, -0/+3mmm...sexy man ankles...
- armatu, on 09/04/2008, -1/+3"Researchers are on to something, says Randy Thornhill"
I bet Freud is having a good laugh right now. How do you say "I told you so" in German? - BinderGang, on 09/04/2008, -1/+3The scientists who "discovered" this must have needed some sort of explanation as to why they're significant other's resembled their parents so much.
- Tenlow, on 09/04/2008, -0/+2Remember when ***** would hit the front page with 15 diggs? People like you were just as angry about it then too. What is a good number of diggs to hit the front page? 100? 200? 1200?
- nicktheawesome, on 09/04/2008, -0/+2That would be Vilayanur Ramachandran, and his talk is found here.
It is a fascinating talk, but the specific part you are referring to is called "Capgras Syndrome."
http://www.ted.com/index.php/talks/vilayanur_ramac ... - feshmania, on 09/04/2008, -2/+4I hear Palin is ailing for a wiener.
- inactive, on 09/04/2008, -2/+4DUGG for being innocent
- haleym, on 09/04/2008, -0/+2Liv Tyler?
- djgreedo, on 09/05/2008, -0/+2*raises hand*
Wait, how old is she? - ScionX, on 09/04/2008, -0/+2says the person also posting on digg.
- phosphite, on 09/04/2008, -2/+4This is old news rehashed, circa 1991. The study into evolution of sexual mate choices is covered very well by Jared Diamond in "The Third Chimpanzee"; perhaps he read this and wrote his article.
In summary, if everybody could do their cousins, or at least their 2nd cousin, they would. And of course, some do. - malman4, on 09/04/2008, -0/+2Again?
- fubarific, on 09/04/2008, -1/+3I like how a similar study can get a lot more attention (and diggs) when you write "HOT moms". Then again, I think we already know a lot about the digg audience.
http://digg.com/general_sciences/HOT_moms_and_SEXU ... - elhaf, on 09/04/2008, -1/+2I feel good about this, that some ugly nerd has a chance with my pretty daughter.
- inactive, on 09/04/2008, -0/+1Remove the capital letters they are annoying. :)
- RobotBuddha, on 09/04/2008, -1/+2That's the exact opposite of how science works. You can't just extrapolate from a population of one or two people. Especially when it comes to studying instinct. That's the point of how it operates in humans, we're usually not aware of it. The instinct decides, and then a nice cover story is created by higher parts of the brain to create a nice illusion of our having actually thought about it.
Though the most important aspect is that sample sizes of one aren't valid. Humans are complex as hell. There's always going to be levels of variation in almost any mental trait.
That said, no idea about the validity of the claims. It's just a single study, non-replicated as far as I know, and done within a fairly small geographic area. - inactive, on 09/04/2008, -0/+1No first you should look at the chick`s mom that you`re dating, that`s how`s she going to look like over the years.
- funkytaco, on 09/04/2008, -0/+1Wrong in my case.
- inactive, on 09/04/2008, -0/+1ew
- VigRoco, on 09/04/2008, -1/+2How many times are we going to see a different incarnation of this story on the front page today?
- doctorhorrible, on 09/04/2008, -1/+2Women marry guys who look like the male version of themselves, not necessarily their dad. That's what I've noticed anyways.
- Watley, on 09/04/2008, -1/+2A possible reason for this is that the brain has a connection between our emotions and facial recognition. This allows us to to connect faces to emotions. So when a person sees someone with a similar face they might get some emotional crossover or that feeling of instant attraction. This was observed in a case study where a man received brain damage and when his mother came to see him he was convinced that it wasn't his mother but someone that look just like her. The reason being that he did not have any emotional response toward her. I can't remember the exact source for this but it on some video on TED.com.
