- inactive, on 01/08/2009, -1/+398I think I'll need recovery time just from reading the title.
- Berkana, on 01/09/2009, -15/+220Ugh. In Islamic societies, rape victims get punished with crap like this, or death by stoning, while rape perpetrators rarely ever seem to face justice. This kind of stuff happens too often for the standard excuses; something is fundamentally wrong when piety drives people to do ***** like this.
- yocouchdigga, on 01/08/2009, -4/+201mind-blowing ignorance. what a twisted society... so sad.
- TouchingWood, on 01/08/2009, -2/+155This is so sad. That poor girl.
- LargeTrout, on 01/09/2009, -1/+127"Rape victims face extreme social stigma, imprisonment and abandonment or murder by their own families in Afghanistan."
What a ***** up country. - traceylynn, on 01/09/2009, -0/+121This is sick. As if rape isn't traumatizing enough...
- electrifried, on 01/09/2009, -11/+125I don't understand Islam and its deal with women...
- hrung, on 01/09/2009, -1/+92"You say that it is your custom to burn widows. Very well. We also have a custom: when men burn a woman alive, we tie a rope around their necks and we hang them. Build your funeral pyre; beside it, my carpenters will build a gallows. You may follow your custom. And then we will follow ours."
-General Charles James Napier - inactive, on 01/09/2009, -9/+100I was in Afghanistan for 8 months most of the people I met were great. I thought that they treated us very well despite being an occupying force in their country. I’d take an Afghan over most Americans any day. Don’t let some nut jobs tarnish your view of a people. I’m certain you can find instances of wilder ***** happening here in the U.S.
- WafflePirate, on 01/09/2009, -0/+82This is ***** up. Reading this article made me sick.
- onlysc, on 01/08/2009, -7/+81wow, thats not extreme at all
- latexsolarbeef, on 01/09/2009, -1/+71It's a real ***** when the mindset is it's _her_ fault she got raped, isn't it? So tragic and awful.
- aethelberga, on 01/09/2009, -35/+97Great. These are the people our soldiers are dying to 'keep the peace' for.
- ABadPerson, on 01/09/2009, -9/+64way to preserve the family's honor!
afghans are awesome! - codered1322, on 01/09/2009, -1/+52I thought it was 2009 and not 857 BC.
- JBranded, on 01/09/2009, -2/+50i am so glad i am a woman who lives in canada
i can not dream living in a world where the victim is blamed for causing the rape
being stoned/slaughtered/etc. after having to go through the trauma of rape, my god I can't even think about it anymore :( - BeShirtHappy, on 01/09/2009, -0/+47What horrors this child has had to endure...
- IphtashuFitz, on 01/09/2009, -25/+71Done in the name of religion, no doubt. Perfect example of why religions suck...
- mikbunn, on 01/09/2009, -1/+47Find me a worse fate than being raped, cut open by your own family, having a fetus ripped out of your womb, and then being sewn up, all while you're awake. Oh yeah, then you probably die of internal hemorrhaging and infection a week later...
..but if not, maybe you'll go to jail for being raped in the first place. - Fib0112, on 01/09/2009, -0/+43Uh, no, no it didn't. Read the article again. It happened in Afghanistan and she was treated in the capital. The Telegraph just reported it.
- Beautyon, on 01/09/2009, -5/+47"I remember when I was with Special Forces-it seems a thousand centuries ago-we went into a camp to inoculate it. The children. We left the camp after we had inoculated the children for polio, and this old man came running after us, and he was crying. He couldn't see. We went there, and they had come and hacked off every inoculated arm. There they were in a pile-a pile of little arms.
And I remember…I…I…I cried, I wept like some grandmother. I wanted to tear my teeth out, I didn't know what I wanted to do. And I want to remember it, I never want to forget.
And then I realized-like I was shot…like I was shot with a diamond…a diamond bullet right through my forehead.
And I thought, "My God, the genius of that, the genius, the will to do that." Perfect, genuine, complete, crystalline, pure. And then I realized they could stand that-these were not monsters, these were men, trained cadres, these men who fought with their hearts, who have families, who have children, who are filled with love-that they had this strength, the strength to do that.
If I had ten divisions of those men, then our troubles here would be over very quickly. You have to have men who are moral and at the same time were able to utilize their primordial instincts to kill without feeling, without passion, without judgment-without judgment.
Because it's judgment that defeats us."
Afghanistan is the place where empires go to die. - AmyVernon, on 01/09/2009, -0/+42Seriously.
- ryancawdor, on 01/09/2009, -1/+43I can't believe I live on the same planet as these Bronze-Age savages.
It really is a culture frozen in the past, with all the awful things that implies: male dominance, EXTREME misogyny, and a staggering lack of empathy. Absolutely sickening. - Midtowner, on 01/09/2009, -1/+42Poorly educated religious extremists do some crazy shti.
- inactive, on 01/09/2009, -0/+37Holy ***** yeah. That's the most distubing thing i've read in a while and i'm a sick *****.
- borez, on 01/09/2009, -0/+32I don't think they do either by the sounds of it.
- theragu40, on 01/09/2009, -1/+33After reading what happened to her, I think I'd rather be stoned to death, honestly.
- Sherman901, on 01/09/2009, -0/+30No, they were protecting themselves and their honor.
I don't get why honor is such a huge deal in other countries. I couldn't give two ***** if my honor was damaged or whatever, I'm going to live my life. It's not even like she can help what had happened, she was raped. - johndaves, on 01/09/2009, -1/+30Ok, this is really sad. I just spoke with a muslm friend of mine about this. Islam forbids abortions after 120 days after conception unless the mother's life is at risk of mortality. Not only that, there is no "lost" honor if someone is raped as it is beyond their control. These people aren't even following their religion! Talk about ignorance. I'm glad at least the authorities over there are trying to arrest her family over this - I wonder if there will be a conviction. Really freaking sad.
- bensonaa, on 01/09/2009, -2/+31That. is. disgusting. Even for a religion/culture that has been known to be extremist...there is no excuse to treat a human being that way. The family should all be charged with attempted murder.
- Wangarang, on 01/09/2009, -2/+31Savages!
- MarcieCastillo, on 01/09/2009, -0/+28WTF.What's going through your head when you decide to open up a 14 year old, no sedation, sew her back shut, and deny that you ***** up for three or four days? Wow.
- Bunnybutt, on 01/09/2009, -0/+26Having to endure a rape, and then this sickening act. Horrific and unimaginable.
- inactive, on 01/09/2009, -1/+27By people who come from these countries, friend.
- alphalim, on 01/09/2009, -2/+26I have similar sentiments, and I'm glad to see a reply by someone who ostensibly has the right to comment on this with authority.
aethelberga's comment would be akin to someone using one extreme case out in rural USA as justification to write off all Americans.
In fact, there are people who do this, using extreme examples of Americans to label the country as the Great Satan and such happy labels, to justify her extermination.
I think your troops are there fighting for the "great" people who "treated us very well despite being an occupying force".
I think your troops are there fighting for the Afghans who are bringing "charges" against the mother, brother and rapist, and are trying to "arrest her family".
Just two cents from a non-Afghan, non-American, global citizen. - Tmoney645, on 01/09/2009, -2/+26If you think absence of religion would stop people from doing insane ***** like this, you are dead wrong. Humans will always find an excuse to commit atrocities against their fellow man.
- DrVic, on 01/09/2009, -10/+34pfft. Norwegian death metal bands have been doing this ***** for years
- Stagle, on 01/09/2009, -0/+22Some days it seems the one thing humanity excels at is cruelty.
- PhoenixFlames, on 01/09/2009, -2/+24Appalling.
- serif69, on 01/09/2009, -3/+22Alright, I know an awful lot of people consider it to be racist or bad form to say so, but there is seriously something fundamentally wrong with the teachings of Islam. Lots of you guys are against religion as a whole, but Islam seems like it's in a completely different league. Only the most ***** up of Christians interprets the Bible like it's telling them to do truly inhumane things, but news like this is a regular occurrence that seems like it's actually condoned, if not encouraged, by the Qur'an. I'm sorry, but I can usually say it's an isolated incident when some crazy quotes God for what they've done, but this seems to me to be far from an isolated incident.
- brokenhope, on 01/09/2009, -1/+19It is pretty unbelievable this kind of stuff actually happens in our modern society.
That is straight torture to a victim who has already been damaged for life.
The situation over there is unimaginably bad.
This really actually angers me. How bad it must be to have to deal with all this kind of stuff if you were born in that part of the world. Its so unfair that because you were born in that part of the world you have to live with the control and torture. Their lives could really mean something, but instead the citizens lives are spent being controlled, and wrongfully punished, constant fear.
I will never think I had it bad again. - Sepiid, on 01/09/2009, -2/+20This is worse. the guy that got shot in Oakland was a known drug dealers and gang member with several felonies. This by all accounts was an innocent 14yo girl that got RAPED for ***** sake. She did not choose that to happen or her lifestyle. the felonious drug dealing gangster chose to act a fool and put him self in that situation.
- Finalreminder, on 01/09/2009, -2/+20I'd call them animals but I dont think even monkeys do this sort of thing.
***** will have to suffice - smaskat, on 01/09/2009, -6/+23This isn't limited to just Islamic society. Ignorance can affect anyone, regardless of their religion. I have known worst cases than this in rural parts of India, my father-in-law is a doctor in a small town in India. Lack of education is the issue.
- eadnams, on 01/09/2009, -2/+19This is the Taliban influence on the society, Afghan women *were* educated, doctors, lawyers, etc... then the Taliban came and took away their rights, allowed stoning in the streets, and behaviour like this.
This is what we're fighting to stop. - MrHappyMan, on 01/09/2009, -0/+16Dude, "Apocalypse Now"
- colklink, on 01/09/2009, -3/+18I'm not your friend, guy.
- Beautyon, on 01/09/2009, -0/+15FTA:
"Dr Ghulam Mohammad Nader, head of Bamiyan hospital, told the BBC that the girl had been able to explain what had happened but was in a critical condition with infected wounds. She is now being treated in the capital Kabul"
KABUL, not BRISTOL, BIRMINGHAM or BRENT. - inactive, on 01/09/2009, -2/+17I'm not your guy, buddy.
- GetItBuilt, on 01/09/2009, -30/+45***** Religion. Without the world would be a better place. I can't wait til society get's smart enough to kill all religions. Then ***** like this wouldn't happen. I'm always amazed by what people do in the name God.
