- DeFex, on 01/06/2009, -0/+213I find myself...not guilty
- Cararan, on 01/05/2009, -4/+206If this was the average joe, they would be under the jail.
- phatedesigns, on 01/05/2009, -0/+174Not only was she drunk... driving... in the wrong lane... it was after she hit the cop that she said "Asked if she was suffering from an ailment, she said she had "Negro-itis,""
- ThatGeek, on 01/06/2009, -0/+87like buried in the foundation?
- acmaurer, on 01/05/2009, -4/+89This is so aggravating! I don't care WHO you are - if you do something wrong, you should be punished equally. She's setting such an awful example.
- CTK14A, on 01/06/2009, -0/+67I looked it up on WebMD, I can't find negro-itis anywhere.
- silent128, on 01/06/2009, -1/+66Seriously.... not only did she get off she is still a judge... our system is not balanced.
- louiebaur, on 01/05/2009, -4/+49and typical
- chriscalifornia, on 03/31/2009, -0/+44Wrist slapping eh? They should get done for assault.
- BlueScreenOD, on 01/06/2009, -5/+44This is actually pretty standard for first-time DUI offenders with no prior criminal record. I'm not sure what it's called in Connecticut, but here in Pennsylvania it's called ARD (Accelerated Rehabilitative Disposition). It's kind of like DUI probation: as long as you don't do anything stupid for 2 years, the DUI charge is expunged. Almost every state has some variation of the program.
Due to their position, judges should be held to a higher standard than most citizens, but I wouldn't say she's being treated better than the "average joe." - Sedako, on 01/06/2009, -1/+37Inflammation of the negro?
- leetninja, on 01/06/2009, -9/+44let me spell this out for you people ... AS LONG AS THE CITIZENS ALLOW THINGS LIKE THIS TO HAPPEN THESE THINGS WILL HAPPEN!!! Do something about it (other than whining on the web) or SHUT UP
- maroon1872, on 01/06/2009, -2/+35FTA: "Asked if she was suffering from an ailment, she said she had 'Negro-itis,'"
does she know that she is black as well? what is she trying to say? - thegrantman, on 01/06/2009, -0/+30In Connecticut, all first time offenders are allowed to enter an alcohol education program.
As the article states, successful completion will erase the charges after a year. - cl2yp71c, on 01/06/2009, -1/+26Amen.
And what are you doing about it, good sir? - traceylynn, on 01/05/2009, -6/+31The American justice system at its finest. Pick on those who are generally non-threats and excuse those who do the most damage.
- TheScogg, on 01/06/2009, -1/+25First off, let's burn some cars and loot some local shops, leaving our cities in general dismay. Then we can throw rocks at random cops. It certainly worked for the modern day Utopia of Los Angeles in 1991 when the citizens singlehandedly put an end to abusive police procedures.
No, seriously leetninja, I'd like to hear your idea on what we are supposed to do to stop things like this, keeping in mind that our representatives have very nice paper shredders to dispose of our letters. You know, I love it how the United States is still so much better than a lot of the world in so many regards, but when something unfair happens in some little ***** town us ***** Americans catch flack from Eurotrash for not marching 2,000 miles and burning the governor's mansion down. Suggest something productive or SHUT UP. - dronesixtyten, on 01/06/2009, -1/+22What about me, huh? My accident was much less serious than hers. I didn't hit anyone. One of my tires blew out and I swerved off the road and hit a tree. I was arrested and fined out the ass. Either had to go to jail for three days, or DUI college, which essentially is like adding another $400 to my fine. I'm not saying I was innocent, but a helluva lot more innocent than her. It will always be on my record, a permanent black mark.
- diggydougie, on 01/06/2009, -6/+25But shouldn't a judge already be very familiar with the effects of alcohol? Those in the legal system should be punished more harshly - not less, because they are supposed to know better.
- LafayetteAve, on 01/06/2009, -0/+17This happened in Connecticut. The story is from the Hartford Courant.
- diggydougie, on 01/06/2009, -3/+19Actually she is only doing what any of us would. The other judge is the problem for not giving a severe sentence. How is a judge giving a fellow judge a light sentence any different from what blagojevich was doing?
- starf, on 01/06/2009, -0/+16I agree, she should lose her job, or at least have some sort of suspension/probation. (I would characterize that as being held to a higher standard.)
- Onyxblaze, on 01/06/2009, -1/+16They should be treated the same as the standard citizen. They are neither above OR below the law. She should lose her job though.
- shrathor, on 01/06/2009, -1/+16And do what exactly?
- heybigjohn, on 01/06/2009, -0/+14Standard for first-time offenders that hit and injure a cop? Really?
- Rally603, on 01/06/2009, -0/+14That her Negro is inflamed...
- EntropyFan, on 01/06/2009, -0/+14As long as it is for everyone, I'm OK with it.
Prison certainly isn't an answer that works, and education/rehab has a higher success rate. - WhoDoneIt, on 01/06/2009, -5/+19I'm going to try to blame it on Negro-itis if I ever get in trouble. Sucks that I'm white though, might not be as affective.
- PhillyOC, on 01/06/2009, -0/+13But that doesn't cause any real physical suffering. It does cause your property values to drop, but I can't see how that could have cause this accident.
- blankoboy, on 01/06/2009, -3/+16Milk spraying from my nose. Thanks for that one...hilarious. =)
- itsradBrad, on 01/06/2009, -2/+14Duh, she's a judge. Cashiers at CostCo get a free membership. Same idea.
- spiritamx79, on 01/06/2009, -1/+13RTA... it happened in Connecticut
"..Judge E. Curtissa Cofield, 60, sideswiped the patrol car in a Route 2 construction zone in Glastonbury Oct. 9th..." - FrankTheTank17, on 01/06/2009, -1/+13The best way to lead a country is by example...
- archiethefifth, on 01/06/2009, -4/+16your neighborhood pot smokers
- K4Lic0, on 01/06/2009, -0/+12Why are people still digging this guy's comment? Must be those people that don't read the article, but think they know the whole story.
- LafayetteAve, on 01/06/2009, -0/+11This happened in Connecticut.
- gixxer600, on 01/06/2009, -4/+15did u also hit a cop ..i think not
- SCMoney, on 01/06/2009, -1/+12Ok, maybe you haven't been through an alochol program....or maybe you are being fecicious..but any alocohol program is a joke. Its just a bunch of people sitting around telling some "teacher" everything they want to hear and watching some documentararies about familes whose lives have been ruined by drunk drivers. I got my DUI over 3 years ago and am just now able to get on to some insurance companies plans. I paid over $2000 in fines and did 40 hours of community service and 24 hours of jail time and lost my license for 6 months...and this was a first offense.
This is bull crap to the inifinite degree. I would try and do something to say that "this isn't right" but I just don't know how to go about it. - Kriztov, on 01/06/2009, -2/+12If this was Judge Dredd, the police would be in the wrong.
- elliotys, on 01/06/2009, -0/+10lol, good point, and thank god cause I can't afford lawyers of that caliber.
- Pake, on 01/06/2009, -1/+11Sadly, this seems to be about the norm these days for drunk driving (even for normal people). I know a good handful of people who have been driving and many of which have wrecked in the process (although none into a police car) and they've all walked out of court with little more than a slap on the wrist. Apparently the courts figure "Well, as long as you didn't kill anyone we'll drop the charges after you take this class" for the first, second, third, etc. time caught.
The worst part is that we always hear politicians bitch about illegals driving drunk and claiming statistically they are more likely to drive drunk, when in fact we're just giving most legal citizens slaps on the wrist and illegal citizens get the full extent of the law. - jadambrinson, on 01/06/2009, -0/+10Maybe rampant societal oppression...but really, Negro-itis?
Actually, that is kinda funny. - Surbrus, on 01/06/2009, -0/+10And she used the n word.
- DJPlayer, on 01/06/2009, -0/+9so If one decides to drive drunk, hits a police car and then throw some racial slurs his way.. one just has to go to an alcohol education class? the hit officer even "opposed Cofield's application to the Alcohol Education Program", he sought a higher level of prosecution. How often do ruling judges go against an officer's opinion, especially when the officer is one hit by a drunk?
- DemDude, on 01/06/2009, -0/+9That's because you misspelled it. Google Negro-titties.
- allisonaxe, on 01/06/2009, -0/+9no, don't burn her. you burn witches! ..what is it that you do to bitches, exactly?
- inactive, on 01/06/2009, -1/+10Their rules only apply to you.
