- marmotjmarmot, on 07/05/2009, -7/+39Some of the crazy ***** that has (supposedly) come from the Mayor-for-Life's lips:
• "The laws in this city are clearly racist. All laws are racist. The law of gravity is racist."
• "I am clearly more popular than Reagan. I am in my third term. Where's Reagan? Gone after two! Defeated by George Bush and Michael Dukakis no less."
• "The brave men who died in Vietnam, more than 100% of which were black, were the ultimate sacrifice."
• “There are two kinds of truth. There are real truths, and there are made up truths."
• "What right does Congress have to go around making laws just because they deem it necessary?"
• "I am a great mayor; I am an upstanding Christian man; I am an intelligent man; I am a deeply educated man; I am a humble man."
• "Outside of the killings, DC has one of the lowest crime rates in the country."
• "What right does Congress have to go around making laws just because they deem it necessary?"
• "I am making this trip to Africa because Washington is an international city, just like Tokyo, Nigeria or Israel. As mayor, I am an international symbol. Can you deny that to Africa?"
• And of course, his most infamous: "Goddamn bitch set me up!" - charlie6969, on 07/05/2009, -3/+25And yet, he still gets voted into office.
I have no sympathy left for his constituents. - analogkid01, on 07/06/2009, -0/+21"What do you mean, 'you people'??"
- JoeMondo, on 07/05/2009, -1/+20Race loyalty sometimes wins out over competence. Usually that has happened among white in the south, but it's not limited to whites.
- RavagesOfTime, on 07/05/2009, -0/+17All together now......Goddamn bitch set me up!
- wepeel, on 07/06/2009, -0/+17http://www.snopes.com/quotes/barry.asp
- Ninh, on 07/05/2009, -3/+18Don't you people have jails?
- beachsouthpaw, on 07/06/2009, -0/+9"What you gonna tell your kids now? Don't smoke crack, you won't be nothin............I can be mayor!"
- Chris Rock - MaxxusFlamus, on 07/06/2009, -0/+8Dunno why you're getting voted down-
The only reason this man still holds any public position is racial loyalty. There's really no other explanation.
Well, maybe outright stupidity. He's about on par with Michelle Bachman in terms of god awful idiocy. - rebrad, on 07/06/2009, -0/+8Damn Bitch set him up.
- karel, on 07/06/2009, -0/+6Democracy at its finest
- HurricaneDC, on 07/06/2009, -1/+7They're overfilled with his voters.
- itc518, on 07/05/2009, -2/+8He is definitely a character, there is no denying that.
- JoeMondo, on 07/06/2009, -1/+7There is no national movement to run Barry for President.
Palin, on the other hand, is embraced by the GOP base.
Invalid comparison. - randyzaia, on 07/06/2009, -0/+5Hey let's make DC a state!
- Vorsprung, on 07/06/2009, -0/+5“Now picture this: A man, down on his luck. Lost his woman, lost his job, lost his hope… but enough about Marion Berry. Can Jazz stay here?” – Will, Fresh Prince
- HurricaneDC, on 07/06/2009, -1/+6@Dagolith there are plenty of competent democratic politicians in DC, both black and white. I think part of it is race loyalty (aka racism) and part of it is retardation.
- DaDrake, on 07/06/2009, -3/+7LMFAO .... wow.... how did I not know about this clown before... especially considering he is more popular than Reagan.
- fragMasterFlash, on 07/06/2009, -1/+5No worries, Rev. Al Shapton has got his back. Oh wait... worries alot!
- JoeMondo, on 07/06/2009, -0/+4He's hardly the only democrat running in DC.
Democratic loyalty can hardly be a valid excuse. - thejackyl, on 07/06/2009, -0/+4I've been caught stalking;
once when I was 73...
I enjoy stalking.
It's just as simple as that.
Well, it's just a simple fact.
When I want someone,
I don't want to ask her out - JoeMondo, on 07/06/2009, -0/+4And he's the same stinking ***** who opposed DC recognizing same sex marriages.
I suppose since he was stalking a person of the opposite sex it's good and Christian. - marmotjmarmot, on 07/06/2009, -0/+4oops. I should have known they were too good to be totally true.
- JoeMondo, on 07/06/2009, -1/+5Nonsense.
Don't confuse voters in one area with a race or voters overall.
I think Barry benefits from some misguided race-loyalty in DC, but it's ridiculous to apply that nationally.
You might as well say Jesse Helms - who also benefited from racism - represented white voters nationally. - motivatedguy, on 07/06/2009, -0/+3Just think, this moron was elected mayor 3 times...
- schroeder, on 07/06/2009, -1/+4Good Charlotte never said anything best.
- JoeMondo, on 07/06/2009, -1/+4Palin is an unethical liar, and shes easily as nuts as Barry.
But the big diff is that the GOP nationally adores Palin. They love that ***** nut.
Dems don't love Barry - it would be nice if he'd just go away - to jail or retirement or whatever.
She represents her party, Barry doesn't. - JoeMondo, on 07/06/2009, -0/+2And he still has defenders.
Repulsive. - jkash23686, on 07/06/2009, -0/+2If nothing else the man makes this town that much more interesting. Oh and its not all of D.C who votes for him you only get to vote for your ward, so not all of us keep voting for him.
- oldhick, on 07/06/2009, -1/+3People need some entertainment and he is certainly entertaining.
- MaxxusFlamus, on 07/06/2009, -0/+2http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marion_Barry#Election ...
- lead2thehead, on 07/06/2009, -1/+3Bitch set me up!
- JoeMondo, on 07/06/2009, -0/+2@1longtime, I give Barry points for more felonies, and Palin more points for crazy.
- 1longtime, on 07/06/2009, -0/+2@randyzaia
DC is actually a small town (less than 500k believe it or not). It's also been murder capital of the world off and on for several years. In other words, it's ***** insane here in DC, keep that in mind.
It should *NOT* be used as a basis for what is "beloved" by African Americans or what the party represents. I can't believe you even said that *****, randyzaia.
@JoeMondo
Let's keep it real, I don't like Palin or her agenda, but I think Barry wins the Crazy Award here. Let's not compare apples to felony oranges. - acknotSW, on 07/06/2009, -0/+2We have the same problem in detroit. No matter how obviously corrupt the politician, they can get voted right back in every single time by claiming that whitie is trying to get rid of strong black leaders.
- JoeMondo, on 07/06/2009, -0/+2The culture of victimization is harmful.
- inactive, on 07/06/2009, -0/+2CRACK...CRACK...WHO's got my CRACK?
I think it's just so hilarious that this guy is a politician from D.C. and he keeps getting re-elected. Pretty iconic considering the classy uncorruptable ladies and gentlemen representing us in the government. - JigoroKano, on 07/06/2009, -0/+1They get a little taste of power and transform into jackasses. Same with Jessie Jackson, he used to be a "great guy" too. Nobody would believe that today.
- JohnnySoftware, on 07/24/2009, -0/+1First of all, a lot of people do not care but they do not live in the districts he runs for elections in so they cannot vote against him.
Second of all, yes, we all realize what he has done and it is a long list. Whereas some politicians have mistresses, some have children addicted to powerful drugs, and have relatives that are constantly in brushes with the law - he does all these things himself. - JigoroKano, on 07/06/2009, -0/+1He's not the mayor any more. He's a city councilman for a ghetto ward.
The last few mayors have been oddly competent.
And Barry isn't exactly a "liberal" either. He's a staunch social conservative first of all... and well, most of his other politics are of the local variety: schools, roads, civics, ... - dmoney51, on 07/06/2009, -0/+1Good Charlotte is the reason I will never stop in Waldorf, for anything.
- jkash23686, on 07/07/2009, -0/+1he was mayor well before i moved to DC, and i don't live in his ward so i just shake my head like the rest of you.
- inactive, on 07/06/2009, -0/+1I'm sorry but Nickelback didn't have anything relevant to the discussion.
- Steve8955, on 07/10/2009, -0/+1Barry = Worst DC Mayor of the past. Best DC Mayor of the future? Superman.
http://noi5.bluestatedigital.com/page/content/home ... - guruboyguru, on 07/06/2009, -0/+1Relevant + Will Smith = win.
- 1longtime, on 07/06/2009, -0/+1He didn't kill anyone, did he?
In DC, that's probation. - dasamps, on 07/06/2009, -0/+1Is his name for real?
- HardlyBoy, on 07/06/2009, -0/+1I too, have an addiction...
- thejackyl, on 07/06/2009, -0/+1I was just about to post the exact same thing. haha
