    Think about those houses with the great rooms, cathedral ceilings open to the entire house. People need to communicate with architects and builders to begin making homes easier to heat and cool.

  • ironeus, on 09/28/2008, -0/+21my friend Korky Buchek rescued a dog just so he can cuddle up with it at night and warm his bed. Some say the price of dog food & vet bills offsets any energy savings, but others argue the unconditional love from Elvis, his Afghan Hound is priceless. It's really a win-win for Korky & Elvis.

  • Stockwell, on 09/29/2008, -0/+13We have a wood burning fireplace, a nice hexagonal piece of work (set in by the previous owners), it stands in the middle of living/dining area thus providing heat all around. We use up to 6 months a year and use up about 4.5 cubic metres of wood (at 50€/m3).
    Once lit up it heats up the whole house groundfloor (and sometimes we need to open the door to the upstairs hallway to get rid of some excess heat, but that then heats up the upper floor and bedrooms). It saves us a bundle on heating bills, and our three cats enjoy it as well, curling up below it.
    Nothing beats the heat and smell of a fireplace. :-)
