- momzilla54, on 02/10/2009, -1/+126Well, it is supposed to disturb you - who wouldn't be disturbed by the weird disconnect that happens in your brain between the imagined scene of a father and daughter yucking it up at her wedding about how he had sex with her when she was a little girl, and the reality of the resentment, confusion, and fear she would actually have in a real life scene where the two of them (or at least HE) would be pretending that nothing was wrong?
If indeed she could stand to have the man at her wedding, or on the same planet. The ad is exposing the cavalier "get over it, already" attitude a lot of people have about sexual abuse. It's a bit like that old canard "if rape is inevitable, lay back and enjoy it." Whoever said that was never raped or abused. - SniperZero, on 02/10/2009, -2/+34This one isn't really as disturbing as another I have seen.
There is one playing here in aus that is like a thank you to everyone.
the ad basically going this guy abuses his kid(doesn't show it but you know from the attitude) and says thank you to the camera
A woman who is clearly an alcoholic you can here her child crying in the background says thank you to the camera
the last scene is this guy who looks more like a pedophile then pedobear himself and there is a little girl on the bed he walks to the camera and says thank you (with this mega i just want to kill him smile on his face) then closes the door.
Basically the ad is saying thank you to everyone that is letting it continue happening.
If anyone know of it on youtube or something you should link it here it is really really creepy unlike this one. - inactive, on 02/10/2009, -0/+30Couldn´t have described it better myself. Well done momzilla54! I´m glad someone out there understands that it´s not really easy to "get over it, already".
Stop not just sexual abuse but all kinds of abuse towards children. - HexxAngel, on 02/10/2009, -4/+29As disturbing as this ad is I think it's a good that it'll be aired. People don't want to think about this stuff but it's more prevalent than we realise. I knew a girl at school who was abused. Yes the ad's confronting but breaking the silence is a necessary first step
- alloystudios, on 02/10/2009, -1/+26We're talking about it. That's the point.
- hufman, on 02/10/2009, -2/+25The website didn't work for me, so I found a Youtube copy: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JfvLNAkRbkY
- upnortherik, on 02/10/2009, -2/+24Yep, that was in there.
- inactive, on 02/10/2009, -4/+23Ouch! That was a little weird!
- themarq, on 02/10/2009, -2/+21This ad calls to mind an idea that I read last week sometime. What's all this panic about Internet Predators for? A humongous percentage of child abuse (physical, sexual and verbal) is perpetrated in the home... by relatives... who are supposed to love and protect the children. And yet the popular media spends and inordinate amount of ink reporting on the horrors of the "the Internets."
The bright light of media should be shone on those parents and relatives that not only perpetrate these heinous crimes but those who are aware and stand by doing nothing. So thank you for posting this add that attacks the real problem.
Stop blaming the Internet, it's no more responsible for societies ills than is the telephone. - inactive, on 02/10/2009, -1/+17Not weird at all, I don't see the problem with the ad. It's humorous, goes straight to the point, and it exposes a problem.
Who is the moron who thinks THIS is shocking in a bad way? It's supposed to shock you to communicate its message, that's all. - themarq, on 02/10/2009, -0/+14Whoa whoa there upnortherik... I didn't say that Internet Predators are not a problem. But they are far less of a threat than the mainstream media makes them out to be and consequently we're wasting resources issuing panicked warnings to parents about "Internet Perverts" when we should be warning parents to watch out for the weirdo next door (or in their own family).

It's much easier to get actors to take roles where they have to joke about boning their own daughters when they really need the money.
- CoD4, on 02/10/2009, -0/+10Well i had to watch the ***** video on mute cause i'm at work so i appreciate your input, thank you wafflepirate
- bjs3171, on 02/10/2009, -0/+10you're right. we should really just pretend it doesn't happen. ignorance is bliss.
- kismetropolis, on 02/10/2009, -0/+8Truer words, as the saying goes.
Can't add anything but my support to momzilla54's post. - homeworklarry, on 02/10/2009, -0/+8Disgust.... slowly turning to admiration that 'Adults Surviving Child Abuse' had the guts (or balls, if you will... I wouldn't) to make this ad, and the Australian media actually aired it.
And yet I'm still creeped out.
Not sure how many Diggers have had multiple girlfriends :) --just thought I'd reinforce a stereotype there-- but I'm a freakin' Don Juan obviously, and the majority of women I've dated have been sexually assaulted, often as children. My friend says it's a fluke that I've dated so many victims of sexual abuse. I totally disagree. I think it's disgustingly common. And even in our supposedly enlightened society, the girls are often the ones who get blamed if they say anything. How a 13 year old can be at fault for a 50 year old sexually abusing her I have no idea.
We could do with more creepy ads like this. Hard to ignore the horrible reality when it's in your face. - zantos420, on 02/10/2009, -0/+7source?
- xthpsgodx, on 02/10/2009, -1/+8That reminds me of this PSA.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7eho0jiDV44 - k3rfuffl3, on 02/10/2009, -0/+7For those of who whining about how "creeped out" you are as an excuse that it should not be shown... You're pretty much saying you don't want to hear about the truth because you're much happier in your cloud of ignorance. We all know how great ignorance is!
- sladek, on 02/10/2009, -0/+62 million austrialians? that's 10% of the country!
- dicer999, on 02/10/2009, -2/+8That's what she said
- yacks, on 02/10/2009, -0/+5or appox. 20% of the women.
- inactive, on 02/10/2009, -0/+5Oh yes sir, I am "implying" that homeschooled children don't get a proper education because commonly they are homeschooled because the parents think schools are teaching too much immoral science. Check the statistics again, idiot.
- rchargel, on 02/10/2009, -0/+5@funkyloki
I don't think he is being cold-hearted by asking the media to show positive role models for victims of abuse. Would it be so bad if every sex-abuse victim on TV wasn't someone who wound up as a deranged pedophile or drug addict, Rather they were a successful victims advocate, or even just a normal person, who was able to overcome their abuse through years of therapy. Should every amputee be shown as a helpless invalid who can't live a normal life? - mkmega, on 02/10/2009, -0/+5Yeah, it's disturbing how many women have been sexually abused by their fathers. The number is a lot higher than studies suggest.
- bjs3171, on 02/10/2009, -0/+5i don't see a problem with it. it's called irony, they're just trying to get a point across, by making you think about it.
are you all under the impression this was FOR child abuse? if you are, then you're the problem, not the ad. - jehan60188, on 02/10/2009, -1/+5oh no, what will you do now after being momentarily taken out of your comfort zone?!
- Grazfather, on 02/10/2009, -1/+5Has anyone seen their drunk driving ads? They're crazy
- superterrorizer, on 02/10/2009, -0/+4actually, women are only responsible for about 20-30 percent of child abuse, given reported crime rates. Men are responsible for the larger chunk of that. Women are responsible for harsher forms of abuse, in general, some of them even being molested and assaulted in some of the same ways when they were younger.
It's not male bashing at all, girls are twice as likely to be molested than a boy. I think that's what the message was trying to convey. - Rudegar, on 02/10/2009, -2/+6his source is how it goes down at his house ;)
- kismetropolis, on 02/10/2009, -0/+3Proof of your contentions would be helpful.
- starslinger72, on 02/10/2009, -0/+3incest is the best, put your sister to the test!
- vexingmodstwo, on 02/10/2009, -1/+4What the?
- funkyloki, on 02/10/2009, -1/+4Were you abused as a child? No? Then, STFU, because unless you went through the horrible ordeal of being abused by someone you trusted to NOT take from you your innocence during the most important development-forming years of your life, you don't have clue ONE what you are talking about, regardless of what the media tells you to feel.
Try a little empathy, you cold-hearted bastard. - WafflePirate, on 02/10/2009, -1/+4Thanks Doktag. Almost as good as your sarcasm skills.
- mylestaylor, on 02/10/2009, -0/+31) Wikipedia is not always correct; it's user submitted data.
2) So that just means that women report it more. That's all. - nmeblurr, on 02/10/2009, -0/+3Don't you think that different people act differently to situations?
Some may have their lives 'destroyed' when others may only need therapy.
A heinous crime such as child sexual abuse does not need to be played down... IMO - Sherman901, on 02/10/2009, -0/+3Well, they succeeded in making that the most uncomfortable ad ever.
- inactive, on 02/10/2009, -2/+5Wow. you are... wow. Dumb.

- iDiggYa, on 02/10/2009, -0/+2*Not sure how many Diggers have had girlfriends
Fixed it for you. - norman619, on 02/10/2009, -1/+3I would have been worried about you if you didn't think so.
- CoreyHalliwell, on 02/10/2009, -0/+2Absolutely correct Momzilla. The commercial is designed to create a blatantly obvious feeling of "weird" when you see how he talks about it so casually it's that weird feeling that hopefully gets you to think about how ***** up child abuse is and how it affects kids for life even through marriage. Also pay attention to the daughter, shes dumbstruck and nervous, to her the entire world is oblivious to her pain and she's forced to play along because i mean when everyone else is having an amazing day, the last thing they wanna hear is how you got molested as a kid....
Further more. Child molesters are worse than murderers. Murderers kill for life. Molesters cut permanent damage and memories deep into a person's psyche which they carry for life. - Jayrune, on 02/10/2009, -0/+2Dayum, props to the guys who put that on the air, they've got balls.
- CoreyHalliwell, on 02/10/2009, -0/+2you feel molested! imagine it for life...
- superterrorizer, on 02/11/2009, -0/+2Women offering up their daughters is genuinely considered child abuse, and included in most statistics.
Men usually have the greatest blame placed on them for the child abuse in a family, and a woman can plead a lesser charge(child endangerment, the same deal was given in my county about a month ago for a young woman) if she does know about abuse and says nothing. But the overall statistics from I.C.A.C as well as the Child Welfare Information Gateway are a great resource and a wealth of information.
And generally, the statistic of 30 percent does include an error margin, however, it's only about 5 percent, still making men responsible for the majority. Don't let some kind of misguided sexism get to you, Men aren't being stereotyped for the hell of it, and it's not a sexist thing. If you'd like to follow up, someone with your local childrens welfare or social services office may have some information on hand for you to read as well as these sites.

Male bashing is only bad when it's untrue. Sexual abuse of children is mostly carried out by men; it's a sad fact. - CrazySpaniard, on 02/11/2009, -0/+1would you say it is over 9000?
