- socialpyramid, on 02/14/2008, -5/+89A friend of a friend kept getting suggestive emails from this hot woman on Match.com. He'd email her, but she would never agree to meet, always teasing. He ran into her at a grocery later and found out she actually worked for Match in marketing...
- Coven, on 02/14/2008, -1/+67How about don't send some bloke across the pond 2 grand and you wont get duped?
Seriously, if you're dumb enough to send some stranger a buttload of cash you deserve to get scammed. - greenlight2001, on 02/14/2008, -15/+63Get off your damn computer, go out and meet some real people.
- inspecality, on 02/14/2008, -1/+39" a friend of a friend" = socialpyramid
- Kurlumbenus, on 02/14/2008, -3/+40"kept getting suggestive emails" = "had cybersex with" and "found out she actually worked for Match in marketing" = "found out she was a dude"
- inactive, on 02/14/2008, -2/+39"ran into her at a grocery" = "stalked her to the grocery store"
- PacketScan, on 02/14/2008, -0/+35I met a girl on match a few years ago.. lets just say the picture in the profile wasn't what showed up.
- Jeffler, on 02/14/2008, -2/+31Perfect day to post this ;)
- pianomahnn, on 02/14/2008, -0/+28I assure you, on the internet, nothing is legit and everyone is lying. Even me, right now. Think about it.
- orangetiki, on 02/14/2008, -0/+25Yeah Match got sued a couple of times for hiring dates. Makes me wonder why now they have a "get a date in 6 months or we refund your subscription" deal
- tedjar, on 02/14/2008, -1/+24FTA.... Anyone stupid enough to wire $2,000 to some guy they never met, in another country, deserves to loose their money. We can add these people to the same category as those sending their life savings to Nigerian scammers, getting raped on myspace, etc. It's not the Internet's fault or the service's fault -- ITS YOUR OWN FAULT FOR BEING A FING MORON.
- Midtowner, on 02/14/2008, -0/+21I'm in law school -- not much free time. Fortunately, I'm married, so I don't have to worry about this stuff. A few of my friends (also law students) have done the online dating thing (I'll omit the site name because they haven't paid me to advertise for them). One is getting married in about 3 weeks, two others have been dating now (seriously) for a decent amount of time. These things work, but you still have to have some degree of game and you still have to be at least reasonably attractive.
- Jeffler, on 02/14/2008, -2/+22Socialpyramid had cybersex with this hot woman on Match.com. He'd email her, but she was seriously creeped out, but she teased him anyway. He stalked her to the grocery store and found out she was a dude.
- inactive, on 02/14/2008, -2/+21"They talked on the phone several times a day, everyday. He was engaging. He gave great advice. He was even supposed to visit her parents in Houston. But then, he started asking for money, with promises to pay her back. In two months, Kossie wired him a total of $2,000. Not to mention the phone bill she was stuck with for $1,500."
So because she got all weak in the knees for some dead beat in another country - the Match Making service needs improvement?
I know the entire article isn't about this, but frankly I am tired of hearing about the stupid ***** women with men they should know better then to hook up with. In this case she never even met the guy. - dannyboy3020, on 02/14/2008, -3/+20He ran into her at a grocery store? Wow, what a coincidence.
- Kurlumbenus, on 02/14/2008, -0/+16Crying about how women don't like nice guys? (while masturbating, using tears as lubricant)
- DavidYeah, on 02/14/2008, -1/+17okcupid.com is free, and I've been dating a girl I met on there for over a year and a half. Just my 2 cents.
- RonaldLewis, on 02/14/2008, -3/+19People continue expecting a different outcome from dating, but get the same result: You can market dating anyway you like, promise the best mate on Earth, etc., but the fact remains: Dating is far too one-sided, materialistic and commercial.
Men need to stop blowing their money on finding women and spend more time doing things they truly enjoy. - inactive, on 02/14/2008, -0/+14Two colloquial phrases come to mind...
A fool and their money are soon parted,
and,
Luck favors the well prepared. - DeadBabyFloat, on 02/14/2008, -0/+13Check me out on my other website, my Pixxx are to hot for Digg.
- greenlight2001, on 02/14/2008, -0/+12Was he trying to sell cinder blocks? Just take all the damn blocks next time!!!!
- inactive, on 02/14/2008, -1/+13And that should do it... The internet now officially has a website for every single thing in the world.
- Coven, on 02/14/2008, -2/+14"spend more time doing things they truly enjoy."
Masturbating? - drmangrum, on 02/14/2008, -0/+11This article is very misleading. The companies aren't really the ones to blame, it's the people on the other end who are lying that are the problem. How is the service to know if a person is really a smoker or not? religious? There is no way for them to verify the truth.
People need to learn to use common sense. Why would you send money to a complete stranger that you've never ACTUALLY met?
Why would you spend $1500 in long distance fees when you can get a calling card for pennies on the dollar? Why would you even look to people who don't live in the same city/county? - Nougat, on 02/14/2008, -2/+13Did she have her pretend email address written on her forehead in black marker?
- Kurlumbenus, on 02/14/2008, -0/+11ALSO: he went back for seconds.
- inactive, on 02/14/2008, -1/+11I can't imagine why some nice woman hasn't snapped you up...
- thelastcivilian, on 02/14/2008, -2/+11I guess it's the dating sites' fault that people are stupid. I mean really.... "Let me send money to someone I've never met!" ???
- inactive, on 02/14/2008, -0/+9Actually some societies have arranged marriages where you don't "match yourself" and they've been around for thousands of years also.
- Scrappy1850, on 02/14/2008, -1/+10Thursday?
- Scrappy1850, on 02/14/2008, -1/+10why? a russian bride puts out.
- pak314, on 02/14/2008, -0/+8Perhaps her picture was pasted to her face.
- DukeMojo, on 02/14/2008, -1/+9We trust our money to strangers everyday.
- edwartica, on 02/14/2008, -3/+11At least she wasn't a Russian Bride.
- diulei, on 02/14/2008, -2/+10Well, what do you expect trying to date online? And if you loan money with no security or collateral to someone you've never met, you're probably just dumb.
- inactive, on 02/14/2008, -0/+7Try not dating, and being stuck in a marriage for 10+ years. You'll see some real complaining then! How did people ever meet before the internets?
- ElSnuggles, on 02/14/2008, -0/+7I'm not sure you can blame the online match site for the woman stupidly sending someone she met on them money.
- Scrappy1850, on 02/14/2008, -1/+8Oprah?
- bluesnowmonkey, on 02/14/2008, -1/+8I'm pretty sure the people you meet through matchmaking websites are real. It's not like you set up a date, show up, and there's a cardboard cutout or inflatable doll sitting there.
Monospaced has a fine point though. What do you do after you meet all your friends-of-friends and the people in your after-hours organizations like clubs and churches? You're left with dating somebody at work or picking up women in bars. Online starts to look appealing. - soulpunisher, on 02/14/2008, -4/+11yeah most online dating sites are scams...not that I've been scammed before *ducks in shame*
- ell0bo, on 02/14/2008, -0/+7Was it the picture of your ass that attracted him, or your personality?
- petebot, on 02/14/2008, -0/+7FTA: "Granted, it may be no surprise that complaints are on the rise. After all, online dating sites have grown. It's projected there will be over 12 million online dating subscribers this year compared with 10 million subscribers two years ago according to Jupiter research, an online research group."
- typicalusername, on 02/14/2008, -3/+10Pretty much sums up the point of the article. *This just in* The internet is filled with lies and doesn't work for personal relationships.
- vpshockwave, on 02/14/2008, -0/+7Almost? Do tell.
- DeadBabyFloat, on 02/14/2008, -0/+6I need to sneak some money out of my countries defunct government coffers, You will make millions!
- KraftDinner101, on 02/14/2008, -0/+6At least they're not out infecting others. I commend them for being brave enough to put themselves on a website where I'm sure people will flame them for being 'dirty' or 'slutty'. People make mistakes and shouldn't be punished forever for it. They've learned their lesson and have decided to date other people with the same incurable disease so as to not recklessly spread it around.
- Kurlumbenus, on 02/14/2008, -1/+7Dating sites may use them, but you have to go to Digg to find the masters.
