- benguild, on 10/10/2007, -6/+47Are all those drivers retarded? They sorta slowly just ram their way through ***** rather than slow down and pull over...***** morons. I just see a whole lot of that could have been avoided if people didn't just floor down the freeway and plow through crap. So annoying.
- SkynetProject, on 10/10/2007, -3/+23I saw what looked like a cop motorcycle, but never saw any bodies or blood. Not necessarily visually graphic, but disturbing by ear.
- IHaveIssues, on 10/10/2007, -1/+20Worst drivers I've seen in a while. Probably too busy texting on their cells to watch the road in front of them.
- tastypastry, on 10/10/2007, -0/+16***** morons.
- lostin1984, on 10/10/2007, -1/+14That whole pile-up would of been avoided had Americans adopted European stile turn/hazard lights of the sides of their cars.
Than every car would have been able to see the car suck side ways on the freeway before it was too late. - 4answer2, on 10/10/2007, -0/+13Roughly 40,000 people die every year in auto accidents in the US. Disturbing stuff
- johnnycheeks, on 10/10/2007, -1/+14This is seriously brutal.
- Nooze2k, on 10/10/2007, -1/+13Why didn't the initial driver put his four-ways on after he slid out? And if he couldn't for some reason, why didn't someone else pull over, put there four-ways on, and check the driver out? If people had a bit of courtesy, most of these kinds of accidents could be avoided... the guy in the video even yells at people telling them to do so until it's too late.
- montiff, on 10/10/2007, -5/+17Jesus Christ thats nuts.
Anyone have link to the story.... ? - vernsan, on 10/10/2007, -2/+14Very disturbing indeed. You can't even see the motorcycle officer except hear his bike go down and smashed by several cars. From what it looked like alot of drivers do not pay attention to whats in front of them in LA(I do realise it's night and it may be very sudden but thats also why you know your surroundings when driving), especially when they see people with the brake lights on. Other thing that could be a possibility is that it was almost a blind bend on the highway.
- Parker307, on 10/10/2007, -2/+13very disturbing
- tryangles, on 10/10/2007, -1/+12There are always accidents on this part of the freeway. It's pretty hilly and on a downward slope with a few a blind spots when heading closer to the highland ave exit. Not to mention this is on the weekend and many people drive fast trying to get the clubs and bars in this area.
- Mauly, on 10/10/2007, -1/+11What, so you want him to jump in the way of the cars?? wtf could he really do!!!
- mattmac24, on 10/10/2007, -1/+11u call like 100 secs slow?
- mendezbeck, on 10/10/2007, -1/+10this video is NOT graphic, you can hardly see what's happening and there's no images of bodies or blood, just cars crashing in the distance. Just FYI.
- tryangles, on 10/10/2007, -1/+10Actually this is off the 101 fwy smack dab between hollywood and studio city.
- saleem, on 10/10/2007, -1/+10lets just hope he used that CALL 911 EMERGENCY phone before he started filming...
- dikaiosyne, on 10/10/2007, -7/+16Aggressive and unattentive So Cal drivers. Doesn't surprise me much.
- Mothrog, on 10/10/2007, -2/+10I love how these idiots on a nice straight road just keep slamming into each other, one after the other, when there's a sea of lights stopped in the middle of the road. Did it never occur to these bozos to slow down and see why all those pretty lights were not moving?
- sparf, on 10/10/2007, -5/+13The way I understand it, "agressive" and "unattentive" applies to a majority of drivers from practicaly anywhere. People need to get their collective heads out of their posteriors before operating heavy machinery.. but that probably IS too much to ask.
- Lilbrittle, on 10/10/2007, -1/+8Anyone else notice that the first car to wreck (the red civic?) Kinda just left his car in the street like a dumbass instead of moving his car, It did not look that bad so their is no reason he could not move it, that is why an officer is dead now because some stupid punk kid just left his car in the middle of a lane on the freeway, notice how the people swerve around it on both sides that just proves that his car is an accident waiting to happen...too late...
- octophobic, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6It's hard to see the road ahead of you when your car is barely 5 feet away from the vehicle in front of you. Tailgaters are dangerous.
- MassiveRealtor, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6Are people blind? Are they pre-occupied? How do you not see 15 vehicles smashing into one another? Thoughts and prayers to the family members of those involved...
- coasterswim, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6That's always the question, isn't it?
- Sithxace, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5that was bad, easily avoded with havin evryones lights on....
- aOenEz, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5That's tragic what happened to officer Small, but he's not the one in the video (rather, whose bike is in the video). I drive on that freeway every day and it's not the I-60. It's the US101 South near Highland. Well, just past the Highland exit heading towards Cahuenga as the sign says. I saw the aftermath of this accident on my way to work the next morning. It still wasn't cleared up. There were about 7 cars still on the road and traffic was at a dead standstill. No lanes open. There was a 350z somewhere in there (not sure if it shows up in the video) that got it the worst. From what I saw that morning the car was COMPLETELY torn apart. I think it must have been stuck in the middle of that huge pileup towards the end of the video. Prayers to the drivers and families in that accident.
P.S. Not aimed towards you LordPistachio, just commenters in general, but unless you've driven on that freeway at night, don't make assumptions. After 9pm everyone is barreling down at ~80mph. Sure, it's over the speed limit, but it's usually safe. If that red civic hadn't been stupid enough to swerve out in the first place it could have been avoided. Some people commented and said that you should be able to see those "pretty lights that aren't moving" from far away. Well, I got news from you. Brake lights are red. And on the 101 South at night, in that particular location, you can see all the street lights on Cahuenga Blvd. which are almost always red. So it wouldn't have been difficult to assume that's what you were seeing from far away. And by heading down at 80mph it was too late to stop once you knew what really happened. - ryanonfire, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5learn how to #$%ing stop
- TheCheeta, on 10/10/2007, -3/+7Have no clue why this guy is being dugg down. He/she/it speaks the truth.... slow down and stop talking on your damn cell phones while driving.
- cycledesign, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5If the authorities had been notified, then what else should he have done? Run out in the dark onto the freeway to wave people down with a flashlight?
- lchanmanl, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5how? by jumping in front of cars?
- foxymcfox, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5Right, because he and his telekinesis would have been able to slow the cars to a safe stop. A human against 70 MPH, 2000 lb pieces of machinery really is no contest. Capturing the event is about the most productive thing he could afford to do.
- diggerman, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5I wonder how many of those drivers who drove blindly through the accident were talking on their cellphone? Using a headset while driving does not help at all! The person on the other end of the call does not know what the driver is seeing, therefore they will continue to talk and distract the driver even during the most dangerous circumstances. Talking to passengers in your car is not as dangerous because passengers see what the driver is seeing and will stop talking to the driver if a tricky situation occurs. (like being stuck in the middle of an intersection)
- djphatjive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3God damn people, slow the hell down. Who the hell couldn't see those cars all over the road!
- noblepenguin, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3He probably wanted the cop to digg him up.
- that1jewishguy, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4people from LA are retards. how hard is it to see wrecked cars in the road? And how come nobody had the decency to turn on their hazards like that guy said he yelled at people to do. Then there was that car that hit that cop's bike and from there everything went to *****. Good job LA you did the human race proud.
- crawf061, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Even if he couldn't move his car... somebody should have stopped in front of it with their hazard lights on.
- georgebnet, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Snuff involves filming a murder not an accident and is usually fabricated with the intent to sexually arouse the audience. It also usually involves sex and a murder.
Not that there's such a thing as snuff films, last time I heard there was only one proven instance. - octophobic, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4The guy happened to have his camera on him but I doubt he had road flares and safety cones as well.
- niceguydesign, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3AUTO MAKERS need to introduce "AUTOMATIC HAZARDS" or similar but different flashing either when the airbags deploy or some other night visual when this stuff happens. In the confusion I am sure most everyone on the scene did not think about it or was too busy exiting cars....
- TheCheeta, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3"Caught On Tape: Fatal LA Freeway Crashes"
What part of that title confused you? Fatal? Let me help you...
fa·tal [feyt-l]
–adjective
1. causing or capable of causing death; mortal; deadly: a fatal accident; a fatal dose of poison.
2. causing destruction, misfortune, ruin, or failure: The withdrawal of funds was fatal to the project.
3. decisively important; fateful: The fatal day finally arrived.
4. proceeding from or decreed by fate; inevitable: a fatal series of events.
5. influencing or concerned with fate; fatalistic.
6. Obsolete. doomed.
7. Obsolete. prophetic. - foxymcfox, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2There are people out there called "Stringers." They are effectively freelance cameramen who keep a camera on them at all times in hopes that they will get exclusive footage that they can sell to news programs, that the news program would be unable to get otherwise do to the time to dispatch a crew. If you just keep driving around, looking for news stories, you can make some good money as a stringer, especially if you grab a few good exclusives.
- Urusai, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Yes, it is like that.
- hypoh, on 10/10/2007, -3/+5I bet a lot of you guys that are talking ***** would have probably crashed as well..
- sherwinn, on 10/10/2007, -3/+5WHY THE ***** DID THE FIRST MORON LEAVE HIS CAR IN THE FREEWAY? ***** idiot, didn't even turn hazards on. Even then, GET THE ***** OFF THE ROAD. We have a phrase promoted all over Texas highways: STEER IT, CLEAR IT!!
- that1jewishguy, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2lol well atleast everybody knows how big of a ***** idiot you are.
- ICSU, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2So why didn't you just ignore the video when the title is a give-away?
I got it. You want to show others how great you are. We don't care. - matrixbandit, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2"This video is AURAL!" might have been more acurate, but less understood. The term "graphic" has become a figurative term in modern times it would seem.
- kaptainchump, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Did you see all those cars hitting the other cars with their brake lights on? If other cars would've stopped and put their hazards on, they would've been in the direct line of fire. The people driving on that freeway weren't paying enough attention to give a crap about people with their brakes/hazards on.
- crawf061, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Brad Baker, a video director who runs his own business, was leaving a nearby party where he had been working when he heard a loud crash and a long screech of tires. He ran to the freeway. By the time he arrived, he said the officer's motorcycle was already lying on its side.
For nine minutes, Baker said he filmed car after car traveling over the Cahuenga Pass at speeds he estimated to be about 70 mph. Cars spun out and skidded, with some slamming into the wreckage. Some drivers avoided the first few crashed vehicles only to smash into others beyond them, said Baker, whose video was purchased by KTLA-TV Channel 5 and also appears on latimes.com. - duggudown, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Actually it depends on the area. Most of the time when an accident happens on the 710, 110, 60, or most california freeways people have the decency to stop, slow down, or even get out and help. The worst freeways in los angeles would have to be the 101, 134, 10, and the 405. They are not the worst because of traffic but these freeways are full with selfish trendy hollywood types that think they are the center of everything. Most of the are 99% of the time on a cell phone too and i've seen on girl with two cell phones talking at the same time.
