Yes you do. That's a problem that has been growing in this nation, and particularly in cities it seems. It's dangerous to take action against others even when it is right, because of all the legal hassle. People are punished by the bureaucracy from all sides and people wonder why no one gets involved anymore. Even if you don't get charged with anything, there is still the risk that you have to go through police questioning or at the very least some transportation rule *****.
I know because it happened to me. I physically removed two belligerent drunk bums that were scaring and bothering people on a bus. No one else even said anything as one of them was harassing a high school or middle school girl, practically drooling on her. They weren't very large but they were loud and aggressive. They were grunting meaningless sounds over and over at people at the top of their lungs. After they were off the bus the driver told me to get off too or he'd call the cops. No one said anything then either.
That experience reminded me of the zero tolerance ***** in public schools. This country has been teaching kids not to defend themselves and instead suffer quietly or seek incompetent 'lawful' assistance. It's a systemic problem of education and our laws. - yeeaauuh, on 10/10/2009, -5/+102The black lady started the fight by punching first. She deserved to get her ass kicked. I just hope the asian lady doesn't get charged with anything for defending herself.
- inactive, on 10/10/2009, -6/+65Whenever I hear the term "cat fight," I always think of two young, attractive women wrestling, ripping each others clothes off and then, after a few minutes, they start making out. This video was quite the disappointment.
Oh well, back to porn. - michaelpinto, on 10/09/2009, -2/+59What about the passengers including the cameraman? You don't have to wear a uniform to help cooler heads prevail...
- BryanTravers, on 10/10/2009, -2/+50Kramer: "So, I kicked him out, you know, at the next stop."
Jerry: "You kept making all the stops?"
Kramer: "Well, people kept ringing the bell." - Rikushix, on 10/10/2009, -0/+45Comment taken Muni Diaries:
"Hmmm…I happen to know a bit of Chinese. It seems that the lady was saying that she wanted to get a seat, but the black woman was blocking her. The Asian lady says “Excuse me”, the black lady lets her sit. After sitting down, the black lady starts to yell at her. In addition, the Chinese-speaking people were telling the Asian lady to “Hit Her! Hit her!”" - LokitheComplex, on 10/10/2009, -0/+40It was vigorous debate on particle verses wave electron theory.
- sneaker98, on 10/10/2009, -1/+41Well, regardless of whether you got kicked off too, good on you for standing up for what's right. I'd digg you twice if I could.
- theXenon, on 10/10/2009, -2/+40I drive Muni bus for a living (not in SF) and the driver did everything according to protocol. We are to notify control, control will notify security and/or the police, and we are not to get involved for a number of reasons including our own personal safety, the possibility of lawsuits, etc.
Open the doors, let those who want to get off the bus off the bus. If no one wants to get off the bus, just keep driving. We're paid to drive people to and from where they want to get to, not babysit, break up fights, opine of a variety of topics, or to do anything else but drive the bus. - Truth3, on 10/10/2009, -1/+35If you are not Asian, don't get into a fight with an Asian in Chinatown. That seems like a bad idea.
- yocouchdigga, on 10/10/2009, -0/+30Call me an ***** but I was hoping the black chick would get wrecked (hospital trip) for running her mouth like that and getting in her face. Some people just need to get their asses kicked and she fit the M.O.
- ColonelJessup, on 10/11/2009, -2/+32President Obama should sieze this opportunity and invite both these ladies over to the White House for a beer, in hopes of bettering Asian and African American racial tensions.
- TeeBaagz, on 10/10/2009, -2/+32I'm not sure exactly how this started, but the general consensus is that the black lady was giving the Chinese lady a hard time for whatever reason.
Seeing as to how the older generation of Chinese people in America are known to be very docile people in the context of today's society, it's not hard to believe that the black lady was indeed the one who initiated the fight. So I give credit to the Chinese lady for actually sticking up for herself and defending herself - a trait rarely seen in asians in America.
That said, the Chinese lady went Brandon Lee on that bitch. Bitch ***** with the wrong person. - yeeaauuh, on 10/10/2009, -1/+27Noble thought, but this is the real world. Fact is, involving yourself in this type of altercation can lead to more trouble than it's worth. Most people won't risk a lawsuit when the reward is nothing more than good karma and a pat on the back.
- hbyrne, on 10/09/2009, -0/+24We ride Muni for the daily joy of getting a snapshot of the human condition in SF, and the recent fare hikes have brought out more than just civic pride in a few of our fellow riders. You can have my seat, but just don't make me miss my BART connection.
- drunkenkite, on 10/10/2009, -0/+23Awesome video, i was praying to see that black chick get her ass kicked when she was sticking her hand in the (Chinese?) womans face. Most obnoxious move ever.
- artfiend77, on 10/10/2009, -1/+24I don't know what happened for the screaming match to begin, or who is right or wrong, but I know one thing; the Black bitch should have gotten knocked the ***** out. If your hand is up in my face, fine. You throw a punch though, you better hope it knocks me out or it's on.
Kudos to the sexy young asian girl to separate the two. - Rsulliv1, on 10/10/2009, -1/+22What that comment doesn't say, but is noted elsewhere on the page, is that more than one of the Chinese speaking people were saying "calm down" and "don't fight".
- kenedamick, on 10/10/2009, -4/+24"YOU. AHRE. STUPID!!"
- bubbameister33, on 10/09/2009, -2/+20I wonder what happened to get all this started? They clearly didn't want to fight and no one tried to stop them until they did.
- Gasaraki, on 10/10/2009, -2/+18Don't ***** with Asians. Asians are nice until you piss them off. Then it's on.
- jk_baller23, on 10/10/2009, -1/+17but, but, but...who's going to capture it on film?
- drmobutu, on 10/10/2009, -0/+15I saw this on the news last night...typical Muni. And in the SF Chronicle, this morning, there was another Muni-violence story...this time a Latino kid got beat up for wearing red shoes...
- stevenkneff, on 10/10/2009, -0/+15I wonder what the problem was...
- Commonwealth, on 10/10/2009, -0/+13What are you talking about!? I had an all out brawl like this with another dude at the bar last week and his arms got really ***** red from where I was slapping him!
- Tzen, on 10/11/2009, -0/+12http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MdY5yWpjmh4
- bubbameister33, on 10/10/2009, -1/+11They didn't want to fight in the first place and their pride got in the way. Sometimes people have to step in and stop unnecessary ***** from happening, instead of filming it and letting it go on.
- Rsulliv1, on 10/10/2009, -0/+10I have to disagree with the "instead of filming it" part.
Filming events like this is sometimes the only way to hold people accountable. I would say that someone filming a situation like this is at least playing a helping part opposed to the 90% of people that did nothing. Note that eventually one woman did stand up to them, then the guy by the door helped by holding a woman back.
Plus, having a video visible to the public might force the Muni management to start to do something about the problem of bus fights instead of their current policy which is apparently to do nothing.
I believe that videos can do quite a bit of good. Videos can bring issues into the public eye, because retelling the story and second-hand accounts just don't sway public opinion like a first-person video does. - KGtheway2B, on 10/11/2009, -0/+10Actually my roommate speaks Chinese: the black lady was sitting with her bag next to her and she refused to lift it up to let the Chinese lady sit.
Also: In the background some guy keeps yelling: "hit her!!" - AmyVernon, on 10/09/2009, -2/+12Well, it looks like in the end, it was one of the passengers who got involved.
- Sexercise, on 10/10/2009, -5/+14Nobody intervened because there are better uses of your ***** commute to your ***** job that pays *****, all to spend 8 or more ***** hours there while looking forward to another ***** commute back home.
I wonder why nobody there intervened. - pogdish, on 10/10/2009, -1/+10this was a blatant rip of rush hour. culture clash, action-comedy. ** 1/2
- 2Deluxe, on 10/11/2009, -0/+8Did anyone else laugh the whole way though this?
- waylandchin, on 10/10/2009, -1/+9"FUT! YOU!"
- JediPilot, on 10/10/2009, -1/+9I agree with sneaker. Good job, man. We need more upstanding people like you around.
- illfaver, on 10/11/2009, -1/+9Chinese lady won.
- evilesttoast, on 10/10/2009, -3/+11I'm actually half-Chinese and this is true, all the older Asians I know REALLY don't like black people.
- czarcasm, on 10/11/2009, -0/+8Chinese lady threw 2 kicks. I'd put my money on her next time.
Oh yes there will be a next time. - xk3t, on 10/10/2009, -2/+9FACK YUU!
- aririn, on 10/11/2009, -0/+7This is the story that I heard:
Black lady was taking up two seats by putting her purse on the seat next to her.
Chinese lady asked if she could sit.
Black lady didn't let her.
And then, it ON! - BooBooBaron, on 10/10/2009, -3/+10I hope both of them are not parents because this is a disgrace
- nomadxx7, on 10/10/2009, -3/+10Nobody intervened due to fear, "not my problem" mentality, and as Boondock Saints put it.. "the indifference of good men (and women)". When people are afraid or unwilling to help their fellow man and try to diffuse the situation we have a long hard fight against government transgressions (if and when they happen).
- mhummel, on 10/10/2009, -3/+9Everybody was Kung Fu fighting...
- LaurenElder, on 10/10/2009, -0/+6Not exactly setting a good example, are they? Too bad they could care less.
- awfulgrace, on 10/11/2009, -0/+6Agree about the instigation in this fight and the non-Chinese lady deserving it.
However the whole older Chinese people in the US are docile line is a bit of a sweeping generalization. I've spent a lot of time in Chinatown and I've seen plenty of old Chinese people who are anything but docile. - bubbameister33, on 10/10/2009, -0/+6I agree with that but I just hate when people stand around and do nothing when certain situations can be avoided.
- Tidia, on 10/11/2009, -1/+7Wait til someone else punches you then.
- zomgflamer, on 10/11/2009, -2/+8Public transportation is an insane asylum. Homeless people beating off, creepy arse people with box cutters, black people mugging you etc etc.
- stonebear, on 10/11/2009, -0/+5I'm guessing that incident occurred in The Castro...
- bardamuclichy, on 10/10/2009, -3/+8lol @ 'all out brawl'. That was a lame fight by even female standards. Buried.
