- Diggopolis, on 09/08/2008, -1/+14About the only question I have is "Where can I get my 'I am obsessed with Mr. Babyman'!" T-Shirt. lol
- inactive, on 09/08/2008, -0/+11This is getting very interesting. Where is Maxwell Smart when you need him?
- inactive, on 09/08/2008, -1/+10Yikes. Let the games begin.
- lekahe, on 09/08/2008, -2/+11I can see no logic in this! MrBabyMan does not have to digg friends, people digg him anyway!
Only beginners who want to be popular do have to do that.
The biggest reason for fast diggs is Digg's own recommendation engine. With a fast connection that speed of digging is not even hard to achieve.
Well, I think we have found the famous Bury Brigade! - inactive, on 09/08/2008, -0/+9I don't care what everybody does - but what pisses me off is that stories with 330 diggs are not getting popular while others with 90 do. Why the ***** is that?
- techguru2006, on 09/08/2008, -1/+8i agree i cantseeyou. And as much as people deny it, they use scripts.
- ohnoerino, on 09/08/2008, -2/+8There is no way that guy doesn't use scripts (unless he has a room full of trained monkeys).
- algaeturd, on 09/09/2008, -0/+6He gets paid. Why would he ever admit it?
The ones he jacks from reddit are probably gratis to for the red herring effect but if you look at some of the content of his submissions, there are plenty of WTF in there which are clearly paid. - techguru2006, on 09/08/2008, -0/+6@sinisa10 -- I once saw an article with over 1,000 Diggs that did not become popular. It actually feels like the algorithm favors certain categories and users over others.
- Haecceity, on 09/09/2008, -0/+6"Sorcini [MrBabyMan] replied that he was not aware of using any of the manipulating scripts that exist out there."
What a BS answer. How can you "not be aware" of using a script. This means he does use them, of course. - techguru2006, on 09/08/2008, -0/+6@Lekahe -- Fast Diggs can be the result of scripts, digging articles without reading them, the recommendation engine, etc. The reason why Mr. Baby Man was interviewed was because he was being suspected of using scripts and of being influenced by $$$.
- WCL23, on 09/09/2008, -2/+7MrBabyMan should be banned. It's people like him abusing the system that ruin digg for the rest of us. I'm just glad that the admins have finally taken notice after far too long acquiescing.
The ideal solution would be to hide the submitter of an article until it hits the front page. Seriously, just don't even have it show up in a person's profile either, hide the identity of the submitter totally until it reaches the front page. Only then will articles be dugg and buried on merit, rather than by who submitted it.
MrBabyMan is either using a script or he's involved in some kind of plan to control what gets to the front page. Both are unacceptable and contrary to what digg is supposed to be, a social networking site where people can comment on articles, and submit articles in the hope that they will reach the front page. While people like him are using scripts to bulk digg his associates stories while they in turn digg his so that they can control what gets to the front page, digg will never be what it was intended to be. - Shootfast, on 09/09/2008, -0/+5It means he closes his eyes right before he clicks the "GO" button
- inactive, on 09/09/2008, -1/+5We could get back to the news, if a certain few jackasses would stop using scripts to bump their stupid articles.
- dukeeeey, on 09/09/2008, -0/+4Digg is rigged, it's not just MrBabyman that is the problem, it's all the top users. Something like 1 million people read digg ? Something like 20 users choose most of the content .. that hits the frontage.
- lacolonel, on 09/09/2008, -0/+4This seems silly.. There is always going to be a top user.
- jeremyduffy, on 09/09/2008, -0/+4And yet, you're still here.
- irfanmp, on 09/08/2008, -0/+3Whoa...a 1,000 diggs and not popular? If you're speaking of this right here: http://digg.com/political_opinion/The_Constitution ... it eventually did become popular. The Digg community wanted to know what was up and Kevin Rose commented explaining it right here: http://digg.com/people/An_Open_Letter_to_Kevin_Ros ...
From his comment, many things are taken into account for story promotion, mainly: "diversity of digging activity, the number of buries in relation to Diggs, and the overall increase in Diggs that are occurring on the site recently." - DeskFlyer, on 09/09/2008, -1/+4You are not forced to be here.
- Phatlip012, on 09/09/2008, -0/+3Isn't there more important things going on then some dude with no life on Digg?
- DigiDave, on 09/16/2008, -0/+2I've personally only known MrBabyMan to be an upstanding, good and honest guy.
But I've also met him in person. I think that's the biggest problem here. It's very easy to assume the worst of a person when they are just an avatar.
Remember: MrBabyMan is an individual - somebody's husband, somebody's father. He has only shown an ethical and warm side to me.
My two cents. - BeShirtHappy, on 09/08/2008, -0/+2You would think for a story to go "popular" it would have to have a fair amount of diggs (hence the term popular). Go figure! :)
- techguru2006, on 09/09/2008, -0/+2I agree @georgemason01... it's blind digging friends that cause Digg to increase the number of Diggs required to make it to the homepage.
- techguru2006, on 09/08/2008, -1/+3Something was fishy and the Digg mob wanted answers.
- inactive, on 09/09/2008, -0/+2This is ridiculous. When the "Ban MrBabyMan" movement produced three items hitting the frontpage, MBM went into lockdown: he didn't digg, submit, or engage in any digg activity whatsoever (almost 24 hours!) Instead, he went into full panic mode, like a politician in a war room, conferring with his colleagues, and came up with this result: a public relations campaign to paint him in the best possible light and, simultaneously, minimize the quite justifiable complaints and mock those who are upset with not just him, but ALL of the top users, who disproportionately control the content that you and I see on digg.
This isn't how an internet geek reacts. This is how a BUSINESSMAN reacts.
Kevin Rose:
-Limit the Amount of Diggs/submissions one can make in a 24/hr period.
-End the Minority Rule of Digg.
-Power to the People! - inactive, on 09/09/2008, -0/+1PS:
The fact is, we cannot take their word for it anymore. Enough circumstantial evidence exists that the system is being gamed, resulting in the vast majority of diggers having lost faith in the digg system. I know I have. This isn't the honor system, and diggers are unethically and deceitfully making profits. This is why limits haven't been implemented: MBM, zaibatsu, badwithcomputers and the rest would all lose income. If they weren't making dollars, they wouldn't get so defensive when "limits" are brought up.

- LiThiuMElectro, on 09/09/2008, -0/+1Seriously I have been dugg down a couple for questioning this Mrbabyman post... That I just find that OK that some peoples now ask the questions and start poking around.
But at the same time... If people digg is content and like it why it's not OK that the guy take money out of it...? It's just us the peoples who digg IS story that are building IS fame and putting more money in IS pocket ( if he's doing it ).
I think that using script to Digg story is not morally correct on a Social website like DIGG. But using a script to post them is OK i guess... since it's only the peoples who decide which is going up or down.... - georgemason01, on 09/09/2008, -1/+2This matters because users like this lower the quality of material on this site. Blind digging friends submissions does not put quality material on the front page. Neither does submitting duplicates and getting them on the front page over other users who submitted the same story an hour before, just because you have a lot of "friends" blind digging your submissions. You claim you manually dugg 82 items in 3 minutes all you want, but it doesn't change the result of what you're doing.

- merchelo, on 09/09/2008, -0/+1Good Riddence, this place doesn't need any more people diggins for the sake of diggin for friends storys.
Digg what you think is right, fight the power (of scripts) - inactive, on 09/09/2008, -2/+3KEVIN ROSE:

- theadvinci, on 09/09/2008, -0/+1I was expecting this.
- jeremyduffy, on 09/09/2008, -1/+1Do that many people really hate MrBabyMan? If so, is there a reason other than that he's popular?
- brett1337, on 09/09/2008, -1/+1cool
- whatthefu, on 09/09/2008, -2/+2Who gives a *****? Don't digg his stories.
- noupsell, on 09/09/2008, -1/+1Did they call in Major Hochstetter for ze interrogation? I bet he has vays of making zem talk! What an f'ing circus this has turned into. Get a life.
- icantseeyou, on 09/08/2008, -4/+4Digg has always been known to be controlled by a few people who use it for their own promotional tools.
- inactive, on 09/08/2008, -1/+1they have to use scripts...but if they admitted it, they would have been banned before the discussion ended...but to tell you the truth, i could care less how it gets to the FP as long as its good content...but what irks me is the good content that doesn't make it, like the writeup on @notque for covering the demonstrations or the petition protesting journalists getting arrested...the new algorithm isn't working...
- sgtbutterscotch, on 09/08/2008, -1/+1I remember there was one about the world's smallest zip drive. It got at least 500 diggs. What could possibly have caused that one to not become popular. I don't see anything controversial in that.
- lekahe, on 09/08/2008, -1/+1As far as I can see this he arranged the interview himself. The ones who suspected him were just the Digg users who submitted those suspicions to Digg. I don't think 82 in 3 minutes is impossible without any scripts.
Did any of those who suspected it check whose stories he Dugg, did it happen 24/7,...there are just vague accusations and no facts.
I am not attacking your submission, I think it is accurate, but the comments here are getting ridiculous! -
