- FishHammer, on 05/10/2009, -2/+723The fact that the kid who got attacked is potentially getting expelled over this is complete *****, especially when it sounds like the other kid is getting off with suspension. I don't care what the circumstances, if you punch a kid you just insulted and get knocked the ***** out in return, it's your own god damn fault. I hope the attention causes the school to do the right thing.
- BakedLeaf, on 05/09/2009, -14/+694Wow, those white kids were dicks.
- diemunkiesdie, on 05/10/2009, -3/+568Why wasn't the other guy charged for throwing the first punch? There must be some racist cops in that town.
- Pinkertinkle, on 05/10/2009, -13/+536He's reinforcing the stereotype that all Asians know martial arts.
- IHaveCrayons, on 05/10/2009, -1/+426This kid followed the supreme rule of martial arts, don't fight unless you have absolutely no choice. Not only that, he handicapped himself by using his left hand. This is a great kid, who did everything right, yet they are punishing him? What a joke.
- xWhalexCorex, on 05/09/2009, -1/+422Good for that kid, glad his classmates stood up for him
- dglad, on 05/10/2009, -1/+389This is somewhat old. The 15 year old Asian boy is NOT getting expelled and is no longer on suspension. Both boys have apologized to one another. The police department acknowledged that the original investigation was inadequate and the school board that it handled the whole thing badly, and they've apologized as well. So, perhaps there can be something positive come out of all this--the fact that, when the chips were down for the Asian boy, the community--in particular, 400 of his fellow students--rallied against the injustice and made some institutions back off and consider how stupid they were being. And those institutions, to their credit, took the hit and admitted they'd done things wrongly.
- darkwater37, on 05/09/2009, -0/+364At least he got the backing of his classmates and community, also good thing he can fight.
- Exedous, on 05/10/2009, -6/+272TALK TO ME WHEN YOU DOCTOR!
- Pinkertinkle, on 05/10/2009, -6/+223"He proudly showed off a report card with a 90-per-cent average."
Where did the other 10% go son? - markhedder, on 05/10/2009, -2/+202Pretty sure he meant the ones tossing around racial attacks.
- ccfccp, on 05/10/2009, -0/+177I love it when morons get put in their place by those they attack. Don't ever be afraid to defend yourself from idiots young man! Well done.
- rhapsycats, on 05/10/2009, -6/+181Sweep the leg.
- gemlarin, on 05/10/2009, -7/+177So, I guess racist ***** exist outside of the US as well.
*****, racism pisses me off. - DarthLamp, on 05/10/2009, -0/+163This is *****.
If he was clearly defending himself, with several witnesses. He shouldn't get in any trouble.
The kid deserved to get his nose broken for being such a wad. This whole "sit back and take your abuse until the authorities come" philosophy is utterly retarded. Since obviously, authority doesn't have any clue what it is doing and is usually too slow to act anyway. If you have the capacity to defend yourself, you should have every right to do so.
It was one punch too; its not like he jumped on the bully and beat the everliving crap out of him. He showed restraint and good judgment, so obviously he's been properly trained to deal with these situations. - TheFuzzyOne, on 05/10/2009, -10/+170Son. I am disappoint.
- akchrs, on 05/10/2009, -1/+153"In Hong Kong, you'd be dead"- Jet Li
- whorunbartertwn, on 05/10/2009, -1/+149Probably all Cobra Kai.
- Shawno1, on 05/10/2009, -1/+148Thats what i call self defense.
- diggdoc07, on 05/09/2009, -41/+174I respect the family for not moving and deciding to ride it out in 'red-neck Canada'. To the Korean kid: White people are the minority in Toronto and Vancouver.
- nullvector, on 05/10/2009, -2/+128And the bully has a crooked nose for the rest of his life to remember how a "chinese" beat the crap out of him.
- theword12, on 05/10/2009, -0/+120He's also reinforcing the stereotype that they're all Asians are smart...showing off his report card like that.
- nobelief, on 05/10/2009, -4/+122So disappointing...
- rpj101288, on 05/10/2009, -2/+110Internet, find the dick bully and do your thing!
- MikeSD34, on 05/10/2009, -4/+112Um no evil-doer, the cousin of the guy he punched also called him a "chinese *****". But are you really going to be that big a douche about someone saying something in plural that you think should be singular? Talk about petty.
- sitykat, on 05/10/2009, -0/+108this kind of story really pisses me off. how in the hell can the kid who was defending himself get in trouble? where's the sense of justice with these police officers? the racist bully got what he deserved. he not only insulted him with a racist verbal attack, but he punched him first as well. if i were the police chief of that town, this would be an open and closed case in a matter of minutes; with a ribbon for the Asian kid because it was self defense, and the bully going to jail for assault and battery. /rant
- deathmatch, on 05/10/2009, -3/+107way to put the previous comment into the ignorance machine evil-doer
- Eifandil, on 05/10/2009, -1/+104the kid was a dick, and as a result he got his ass whooped. Justice.
The protagonist getting the ***** end of the stick due to being a minority and law enforcement conceding to pissed off parents. not justice.
Pretty much *****. - wjappe, on 05/10/2009, -0/+95I know, that makes no sense at all to me that the aggressor doesn't immediately get called out for this by the cops. I guess it makes the same sense as it does in the US as I recall from stories I've heard.
- smashingmonkey, on 05/10/2009, -1/+93He didn't throw the first punch, you *****. He deserved to fight back to defend himself.
- WhiteMike87, on 05/10/2009, -2/+80A "B" is an Asian "F"!
- Engival, on 05/10/2009, -0/+78Guess you've never seen bullying in school before.
They don't go, "oh, he's walking away, maybe we should leave him alone now". - yellephant, on 05/10/2009, -0/+78http://www.theglobeandmail.com/servlet/story/LAC.2 ...

a little digging goes a long way - loginx, on 05/10/2009, -12/+86Did it hurt when you pulled those ethnic minority claims out of your ass? Could you please do us all a favour and do a bit of research before making statements in the future? Took me all of 20 seconds to find out that caucasians are *not* an ethnic minority in Toronto: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Demographics_of_Toron ... or even in Vancouver: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Demographics_of_Vanco ...

- USAOwnz, on 05/10/2009, -2/+70This is ***** up.
- ewsherm, on 05/10/2009, -2/+65Asian.
- DavidTurnbull, on 05/10/2009, -1/+64Did you read the article?
He didn't want to fight and he punched with his left hand. - IHaveCrayons, on 05/10/2009, -3/+65Umm... and punching someone in the face is right to free speech too?
- stubear, on 05/10/2009, -1/+62Not when I went to school. There was a kid in my freshman social studies class who though tit would be funny to shoot paper clips at the back of my head. I notified the teacher on a couple of occasions, after class of course, but one day I simply lost it. The teacher had stepped out of the class to talk to another teacher when this student took the opportunity to shoot a paper clip at my head. I leapt out of my desk and flipped his desk on top of him, pinning him to the ground. I took a few shots at him while I had the chance because the two teachers had come into the class not long after they heard the desk crash to the ground. It took both teachers to get me off this guy. They pulled both of us out into the hall and asked what happened. The teacher was going to take both of us to the principal to which I replied absolutely not. I let him know that I'd be more than willing to tell the principal he was given every opportunity to deal with this situation. The teacher told me to go back to my desk and took the other student to the principal. I assume he left out some key details to the story because that was the end of it as far as my involvement was concerned. The other student dod come back to class a little later with a few tears in his eyes (this was back in the day when principals were allowed to use corporeal punishment). Thie bully never bothered me again.
- inactive, on 05/10/2009, -0/+60Better yet, he ended the fight with one strike, to the nose.
- MrInfallible, on 05/10/2009, -5/+64Why do news stories have to reported in some poor dramatic literacy style, it's cringe worthy to read.
- Iced4Lyfe, on 05/10/2009, -2/+59Being asian myself, I'm glad that people stood up for the boy and his family.
- Laminarcissus, on 05/10/2009, -1/+57Plus, one punch and the "bully" was out? That's no ***** bully! That's an eight-year-old girl with a mouth that writes checks her slaps can't cash.
- slippeh, on 05/10/2009, -3/+58This is fairly old..I am surprised to see it posted on Digg now, especially an article that doesn't even fully explain the situation. There are numerous other news articles with full information in them.. It has already been resolved. The charges have been rescinded on the one student, neither student will be expelled, and both have apologized to each other. Not to mention an investigation has been set in place to determine why the student who acted in self-defence was charged in the first place, while the student who initiated the attack was not. Also, they determined there was no "hate crime", as was initially thought due to the racial comment thrown.
Woops. Did not see dglad's post DIRECTLY above mine, heh, my mistake! - verynegative, on 05/10/2009, -4/+59Well said mr. deathmatch.
- Clbck, on 05/10/2009, -0/+54They also stop when you break their nose.
- deathmatch, on 05/10/2009, -3/+56This is why reading is important.
So people don't overlook information and formulate their own perpetuating ignorance and mass confusion - tabion, on 05/10/2009, -1/+53Did anybody else read that with Jet Li's accent?
