video.google.com — On Tuesday May 3, 1994 this program was scheduled to air on the Discovery Channel. Influential members of congress applied pressure to the cable industry to stop the airing of the program and destroy all copies. The Discovery Channel was reimbursed for the 1/4 to 1/2 million dollars production costs. This is the program they didn't want you to see!

- ilyag, on 10/12/2007, -39/+62This is just a conspiracy theory, which already went through the courts and was debunked and thrown out.
On January 30, 1990, Nebraska State Attorney General, Robert Spire, called for a grand jury to investigate these allegations. On February 6, 1990, former County District Judge Samuel Van Pelt was appointed a special prosecutor for the Douglas County Grand Jury, which convened on March 12, 1990.
On July 23, 1990, after hearing many hours of testimony, the grand jury threw out all of the allegations concerning sexual child abuse and labeling the charges a "carefully crafted hoax".
FURTHERMORE, this whole thing was initiated by a cover story in the Washington Times. The Washington Times is a newspaper owned by an Asian cult leader named Sun Myung Moon, who tricked several members of US Congress to attend his "coronation" ceremony as the new Messiah. In essence, the newspaper is an ultra-conservative tabloid by a creepy, rich psychopath who's trying to use his wealth to spread both his "religion" and his fringe political beliefs. It's like the Weekly World News, only they don't do it as a joke.
Now, you may believe that it's true anyway, that the allegations are correct, and that the courts are in on this in some wide-reaching conspiracy, like 9/11 and UFOs, but don't go around saying these are facts, or that this really did happen. It seems incredibly likely that the Discovery Channel realized that improper research was conducted by the makers of the documentary and THAT was why it was pulled.
I'm hoping that Snopes will have an article on this in the near future. - nrvous250gt, on 10/12/2007, -10/+82Soylent Green is made out of people! It's peeeeeeeeeeeeople!!

Then why would somebody go through the trouble to have a show taken off the schedule, buy the rights to that documentary and proceed to destroy it? I don't care what it's about (UFOs, Bigfoot, JFK etc.) when someone goes to that length there is something to hide. - ilyag, on 10/12/2007, -20/+17"when someone goes to that length there is something to hide."

Did you ever consider the possibility that it's NOT that there's something to hide? It's that there is nothing to show.
In other words, maybe the execs at Discovery Channel found out very late in production that the accusations made in this documentary were based on garbage evidence.

"....And by the way just to answer your next question. Yes, I put names in the book, dates and everything that I could just as they were. Why? Because I figured blow it out all straight and I said when a number of threatening calls came after the first edition came out. They said, “This is the most libelous, slanderous thing we've ever heard.” And I said, “Fine, I think I've done enough to prove it and I'm satisfied. If somebody feels that way, if somebody said these things about me I'd sue them for liable and slander.”
AJ: Here you are 10 years later and you're winning lawsuits.
JD: Well, there was one libel/slander lawsuit as a result of the book. But, that was one I filed against some group called Great Atlantic Telecast Company. Some TV network on the East Coast when they had one of the characters of the book - who also happened to be running for president at the time - go around saying, "Oh, don't believe this and don't believe this, this is a lie." And they supported him and so I sued them. Well it ended up they ended up paying me off, backing down and reaching a settlement.

High level government cover-ups of child sex rings. Paid/drugged/forced child prostitution by prominent business men/politicians. Murders, threats, "accidents", "suicides". FBI acquiring evidence and intimidating even police enforcement. Courts "accidentally" destroying evidence.
@ The Bohehiam Grove:
[One of the male-children prostituted:]
" (In other words have sex with him.) At first I said no and they held a gun to my genitals... We did this stuff to the boy for about 30 minutes or an hour when a man came in and kicked us and stuff in the genitals. And picked us up and threw us. He grabbed the boy and started blanking him and stuff. The man was about (I'm not sure how to say this) the man was about so many inches long and the boy screamed and stuff.
The man was forcing his blank into the boy all the way. The boy was bleeding from his rectum and the men tossed me and him and stuff and put the boy right next to me and grabbed a gun and blew the boy's head off. The boy's blood was all over me..
Everything including when the men put the boy in the trunk was filmed...
[Later after they hosed them off, and then allowed them a shower the victim's gore off]: They had the film and they played it. As the men watched it they passed Nicholas and I around as if we were toys…"

It's hard to say, especially in light of some of the things in the news currently... you remember that mother whose son disappeared 24 years ago, and someone left pics of her boy and another boy bound and gagged? (http://abcnews.go.com/US/wireStory?id=2386261 ) These pedophile rings do exist, and there are definitely pedophiles in high places with a lot of money and power to do these kinds of things.
Whether the documentary is true or not, I'm sure it COULD be true. And I remember the McMartin Preschool Scandal here in California; kids were/weren't pressured to say they were molested, kids were/weren't pressured to recant, it was probably made out to be a lot bigger deal than it really was. One never knows, but the possibility is 100% valid.

- EntropyMan, on 10/12/2007, -4/+88SUMMARY, for those who can't watch now. I saw this a long time ago. It's a copy of a copy of a last surviving copy of a documentary that got nixed due to content and political connections.
The allegations, credibly presented IMO, are that at least in Nebraska (Boys town, a place with lots of church-raised orphans), there was a child sex ring organized by a leading local GOP figure. Drugs were used to keep the kids in line. Kids were used as prostitutes for rich and well connected men.
A few of the kids told their story, were pressured by police to recant, went to jail, and now re-affirm their original story. A former CIA director (Colby) was called in to validate the claims and he sided with the kids and the investigator who kept digging on their behalf.
The wider conspiracy angle includes Colby dying shortly thereafter, allegations of connections to the national GOP (Elder Bush, etc..) and that this sort of thing being widespread in DC. The documentary does a pretty good job of presenting facts without too much spin, especially on the national angle. King pretty clearly got away with something -- the only charges that stuck were financial. And it's pretty clear the investigation was stonewalled and/or whitewashed by interested parties. Not a good day for justice.
Personal take: As to whether this reaches to the national GOP and the oft-alleged deviancies of our leaders is far from proven. But given everything else going on, I think we need to find out. - Bantec, on 10/12/2007, -3/+14I am watching now. I remember a small stink being raised about this. It mostly got pinned on Boys Town. Afterward they nailed another priest that ran a big runaway shelter in NY, and it was linked to this. The politician involvement was buried, and forgotten by most. Myself included. The priests then became the brunt of all the jokes. Not that they didn't deserve it...

The comment from BTJunkie
A documentary listed for viewing in TV Guide Magazine was to be aired on the Discovery Channel, on May 3, 1994. This documentary exposed a network of religious leaders and Washington politicians who flew children to Washington D.C. for sex orgies. Many children suffered the indignity of wearing nothing but their underwear and a number displayed on a piece of cardboard hanging from their necks when being auctioned off to foreigners in Las Vegas, Nevada and Toronto, Canada. At the last minute before airing, unknown congressmen threatened the TV Cable industry with restrictive legislation if this documentary was aired. Almost immediately, the rights to the documentary were purchased by unknown persons who had ordered all copies destroyed. A copy of this videotape was furnished anonymously to former Nebraska state senator and attorney John De Camp who made it available to retired F.B.I. chief, Ted L. Gunderson. While the video quality is not top grade, this tape is a blockbuster in what is revealed by the participants involved.

- P5ycHo, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4Thnx for the nzb link.
- BLAKEBUCK, on 10/12/2007, -21/+2I'm a little supsicious of it's legitimacy. First off, for a "1/2 Million Dollar" documentary, the production values are quite low, especially when you consider it was supposedly produced for the Discovery Channel in 1994.
The transfer is from what appears to be grainy Super 8 film, rather than Beta or 16mm which would have been much more likely for this kind of documentary in 1994. There are also reel notes on the film zooming by every few shots and missing video segments, which says to me this documentary was in no way ready to be broadcast, especially on the Discovery Channel. Finally, the length is 55 minutes 12 seconds - much longer than your average Discovery Channel documentary even in 1994 (almost all hour long television documentaries are 48-50 minutes tops).
I'm not arguing that the points the film brings up is invalid, just that the disclaimer at the beginning and supposed story behind it do not seem legitamate at all.- Bantec, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6The film is probably a copy of a rough edit. Like it said, 'somebody bought the rights and ordered all copies destroyed'. With that I would assume somebody who had something to do with the... never mind too much speculation. I'll see if I can find anything on it.
- ayeroxor, on 10/12/2007, -1/+22Why are all you complete retards still complaining about the quality?!
It has been explained OVER AND OVER AND OVER that it is a copy of a copy of a copy, and is lucky just to have survived the campaign intent on all remaining copies being destroyed.
It's not a blockbuster star wars movie; the quality doesn't matter. it's the content!!!! - jasonok6, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8Dude, are you kidding me? You are doubting its legitamacy based on the quality? Have you ever been exposed to a professional video or audio cd before it goes in for editing and mastering? Cause if you had, you would know that even a mega-blockbuster video or cd sounds and looks like poop before being edited and mastered. This would appear to be a salvaged video that was created from the un-edited, un-mastered non-final version.

Satanic cults are involved in the destroying of young innocent souls, and some demons specifically call for individuals to bring forth at least one child per year. Molech is one such demon that is specifically mentioned in the Bible, and world leaders visit the Bohemian Grove once per year to honor Molech and sacrifice a child (supposedly a fake body) to the giant stone owl.

What happened to US being a country of free speech and liberty for all (except orphans and destitutes) ? My respect for Discovery has gone down the drain.
While Islam goes nuts and riots stating they are not violent, the church encourages pedophilia.
At the same time, we are governed by corrupt bureaucrats voted into office by primates, all who say they "fear God" but do a lot of ungodly acts in private.

"So why isnt anyone mad with the channel for succumbing to political pressure ?"
Erm... Do you know how to read? It clearly says (in many places around the web) that pressure was placed on the cable networks. Discovery is just one channel, and if cable network refuses to air them then they can't do much about it. They could have taken it to court but that would take a long time to get sorted out, and it would miss its scheduled air time regardless. Even if they went to court ultimately the court would just rule that the cable networks have a right to control what content that they show. The only good that could come out of it would be shedding more light into the ongoing case. Which, while a good thing, still probably wouldn't have done much for getting the story out. - Navicerts, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8"Wait till these kids abused at a young age grow up and make a nation. And for you blind dingbats who don't believe this could ever happen because it was dismissed in the courts as being a clever hoax...you are right. Politicians with all the power in the world do not become bored with the legal boundaries of life and play doctor on innocent boys and girls. Priests don't finger alter boys, 75%+ of protestant pastors do not have at least one affair with a member of their church. The earth is flat, and evolution is a mythos.
- jbink303, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2However, we're also told, 'What someone does in their private lives is their business.' A la Lewinsky. It wasn't pedophilia, don't get me wrong, but I'm guessing it was probably bordering on sexual harassment.

This is a basic overview by an encyclopedia about the conspiracy and the cover-up. Apparently it is that well known.
http://experts.about.com/e/c/co/Conspiracy_of_Silence.htm
It is also covered extensively in a book called 'The Franklin Cover-Up' - djkrush, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3If this is true it doesnt surprise me, this has been going on for millenia. Julius Caeser was accused of this by many, and there are other historical figures who have also been accused of this. You'd be surprised how once you reach any sort of power no matter how little that is, the networks you are able to make and the power that brings.
- xedd, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6@djkrush
"Julius Caeser was accused of this by many,"
Julius Caesar was NEVER accused of homosexual pedophilia. He was certainly a player, but he was the purported son of the goddess Venus, so he had to live up to her reputation.
;-)
The irony to the present sordid story: thes same lying scumbags prove their hypocrisy by pretending to be so highly moralistic with the "conservative" social values, and their holier-than-thou attitude. Republican Party is full of LIARS, opportunistic deceivers, cheaters and thieves. - djkrush, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2He was accused of homosexuality. I have read the documents in Latin class in their latin form of this, do a google search of caesar homosexuality and see what comes up. You will see that he was accused of by many as homosexual (mostly his enemies and mostly after his death). One particular thing I read in its original latin text was the reason why he adopted augustus was so he could molest him. It was all rumors and hearsay, but I dont believe rumors dont have some legitimacy in the truth. But to summarise what I read (which was authentic political commentary of the time) was that he had these outtings on sea vessels where he would molest little boys, Augustus being one of them.
- DiggidtyDog, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2That's interesting,I always thought the romans were ok with homosexuality.
- djkrush, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3that was the greeks
- Jadael, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2It wasn't homosexuality they were against, it was being a bottom. Being a top was seen as at least masculine, if still a little strange. And of course if there were no women around, well, hey he had no choice right?
But Caesar was accused of preferring to be on the bottom.

"Banned Discovery Channel Documentary": Not credible by association. - maskMarauder, on 10/12/2007, -14/+3It is amazing how convenient this was stirred up during a heated election year. This is typical propaganda thrown around by liberals and the media. All they can do is to spread FUD because that is all they got. It is so obvious, it is still amazing libs don't get it. Why don't they spend time coming up with real solutions versus trying to spread this kind of stuff around?
- ayeroxor, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7If you don't know the sky is blue, and I tell you during an election year, the point is still that hey, the sky is blue. You can do whatever you want with that information, but it's a fact, and it's something you didn't know before, and I think it's inane to perhaps wait until a different time to tell you that.
What's sad is that here you are telling people not to say or discuss certain things based on what's happening this year. Poor you. - xedd, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6@maskMarauder

Why is it that whenever somebody is accused of something and they happen to be connected to the GOP, it MUST be a conspiracy of freedom-hating hippies (or blamed on Bush in the opposing case)? Neither side lacks closets full of skeletons, but don't shout down those looking into tragic crimes due to political BS. - jeffreyDigg, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1And you understand this subject so well because the rethugs have done it so efficiently for the last 6 years - right? "What's sad is that here you are telling people not to say or discuss certain things based on what's happening this year. Poor you."
Ahhhh, a typical response that I would expect. I am not telling people not to say or discuss certain things anytime of the year. How you ever got that is amazing. I'm pointing out that this type of propaganda that is always cranked up in hopes some how it will influence the election. If you can't see that, "poor you". Unfortunately it does come from both sides, however at least the right is backed up with the idea that I am an individual and have the freedom not to be reliant on the government from my health, retirement and daily living. I have the freedom to excel at my pace in this country.

So what you're saying (or supporting, or quoting, i dont know) is that the channel was ok to succumb and not take them to court ?
I'm not trying to flame you, i'm just referring to what you had quoted.
They are stupid for stating that nothing much/good would have come out of it - since when are 'independent' cable companies puppets of the American government ? Are we in Russia ?
If in court I'm sure it would have made big news.

- xDev, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Here's some audio files of Senator John DeCamp being interviewed on various radio shows about the case:
http://www.franklincase.org/media.htm
About the video:
"In 1993 Yorkshire Television sent a documentary crew to Omaha, Nebraska to investigate, document, and interview those close to the Franklin Case. Throughout the following few months the crew collected hours of interviews, spending nearly half a million dollars in the process."
"The documentary had been contracted by the Discovery Channel, and was to air in the spring of 1994 on American Television. However, the title of the documentary spoke its fate. Conspiracy of Silence was scheduled to air May 3, 1994, with the date published in the TV Guide. But when audiences tuned in from around the country they found that the ground-breaking documentary had been pulled off the air."
"Later informants told John DeCamp that the documentary had been pulled after Congress struck a deal with cable companies. While other Washington officials claimed the documentary contained pornographic material and should not be aired."
"Though the Discovery Channel made a deal to destroy all copies of the documentary a cutting-room copy of the expose was anonymously mailed to John DeCamp in 1995. Click on the High Speed or Dial-Up to view the shocking documentary, Conspiracy of Silence." - jizzatch, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8Perhaps, this explains how Jeff Gannon got his white house press pass and his mysterious comings (pun intended) and goings to the WH.

- BruticusMaximus, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0Just a dumb question. If it was scheduled to air in 1994, why does it talk about stuff that happened in 1998? How is it possible to air something 4 years before it happens?
- allatti2d, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1BruticusMaximus --

Fortunately someone smuggled a rough edit out and held onto it in secrecy for almost two years before mailing a copy to a Senator.
A message from Senator John Decamp:
"In mid-1993, after The Franklin Cover-Up had been circulating for almost a year, the British-based TV station, Yorkshire Television, sent a top-notch team to Nebraska to launch its own investigation of the Franklin case. Yorkshire had a contract with the Discovery Channel to produce a documentary on the case for American television.
Finally, the big day came. Their documentary was to air nation-wide on the Discovery Channel on May 3, 1994. It was advertised in the TV Guide and in newspapers for that day. But no one ever saw that program. At the last minute, and without explanation, it was pulled from the air. It was not shown then, and has never been broadcast anywhere since.
I have a copy of that program, which arrived anonymously in my mail in late 1995. When I watched this pirated copy, I could see clearly why the program had been suppressed. Conspiracy of Silence proved, beyond doubt, that the essential points I had stressed in the book (and more) were all true." - littlebylittle, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Some of the alleged activities in this story were alleged to have taken place here:
