Banana Man Protests for Masculinists at Pitzer Senate
flickr.com — I'm too busy/lazy to do a full update on the site, but Masculinist Coalition applied for (and was denied) funding/recognition AGAIN last night at Pitzer Senate for a 3rd consecutive time. The same protesters showed up against us, but this time Masculinist Coalition had a secret weapon. Enough is enough! This ***** is bananas! senate@pitzer.edu

- 4dna, on 04/07/2008, -0/+19masculinist banana man: his suit is banana. his words are man.
- badwithcomputer, on 04/07/2008, -0/+16here are some highlights from senate:
some senator actually said that refusing to change the name masculinist was something you could compare directly to a group on campus who wanted to call themselves nazis or the kkk...true story.
also, there was a motion to suspend the constitution to take the burden (and public embarrassment on the internet) off of the senate for refusing to recognize the group. this motion to suspend the constitution (which was only previously done in emergency situations like sending senators to help after katrina) was going to be done so a mass student wide election could decide if the masculinists could exist. this would, of course, only turn into a popularity contest that i KNOW i couldn't win. i mean god damn, i started this group to make some friends.
banana man showed up early and had to sit in his banana suit for ~45 minutes of non-masculinist related senate business. he almost passed out from de-hydration and was actually voting yay or nay on a lot of issues before a senator turned around to inform him only senators could vote.
members of the feminist coalition read digg comments outloud (again...) neglecting to read any kind of positive digg comments and failing to recognize that the horribly misogynistic words they were reading had been sufficiently dugg down by the community here. once again, they only wanted to sensationalize the bad aspects of the attention we've drawn online. once again, they had nothing constructive or positive to say about moving forward.- smacksaw, on 04/08/2008, -0/+1They read comments out loud?
Nazis? Takes one to know one.
Wasn't college supposed to be fun? Are you sure your Senate isn't actually run by the Chuch of $cientology? Did they ask you what your crimes were?
- smacksaw, on 04/08/2008, -0/+1They read comments out loud?
- tofuchica, on 04/07/2008, -0/+14Best. Phallic. Mascot. Ever.
- badwithcomputer, on 04/07/2008, -0/+6i just want everyone to know this suit was NOT in his closet when he woke up yesterday- he had to make some serious moves to get it in his position. i'd say he's up for a man of the week nomination at our next meeting.
- teejaay, on 04/07/2008, -0/+15No one dares to debate a well opinionated banana.
- jggube, on 04/07/2008, -0/+6Nothing deserves more serious attention and consideration more than a man dressed up as a fruit.
- Joel32, on 04/07/2008, -0/+7There's money in that banana stand...(wink wink)
- badwithcomputer, on 04/08/2008, -1/+3sure- like the guy in the $5k pants needs $150 from student senate and the same basic rights they give to all other groups on campus. COME ON!
- TEHxINTERWEBS, on 04/08/2008, -0/+3 Gob's Wife: I'm in love with your brother-in-law.
Gob: [disgusted] You're in love with your own brother? The one in the army?
Gob's Wife: No, your sister's husband.
Gob: Michael? Michael!
Gob's Wife: [exasperatedly] No, that's your sister's brother.
Gob: No, I'm my sister's brother! [satisfied] You're in love with me - me.
Gob's Wife: I'm in love with Tobias.
Gob: [puzzled] My brother-in-law?
Gob's Wife: I know it can never be, so I'm leaving. I'm enlisting in the army.
Gob: To be with your brother...
Gob's Wife: No!
- andanotherone, on 04/07/2008, -0/+7Banana man make sexy time with Phoebe.
- Zervas, on 04/07/2008, -6/+1I thought they said no gay stuff.
- thedzigner, on 04/08/2008, -1/+4This is nuts!! (or should I say 'bananas'?)
- badwithcomputer, on 04/08/2008, -0/+14i forgot to add this before in the "highlights" but it's worth mentioning. after senate, i went up to some protesters and tried start a dialog with them. i thanked them for showing up to express their views and encouraged them to meet with me to push forward on this charter with something they could be content with.
a member of the feminist coalition openly threatened me with violence as i politely tried to engage her in a discussion about the group and hear what she had to say! she said she wanted to punch me in the face and the only thing preventing her from doing that was the fear of not being able to graduate. she also told me that there's "no end" to the jokes feminist coalition have about the masculinists and that they criticize us for being "really gay" (referring mainly to the cooler of man juice) like it was some kind of bad thing. what an absolutely disgusting embarrassment to the pitzer community.
i sent out an email asking students in support of us to let me know because i was tired of portraying all students here as ignorant man haters. students contacted by the dozens to say they were in support of what we were doing but felt afraid to voice that unpopular opinion because of how hostile the environment was on campus. thanks to this feminist coalition member's direct threats against me i can see why.
she asked me to keep all of this stuff at pitzer off the internet, but ***** that. this kind of intolerance and hate can't hide anywhere. she should just be happy anonymous hasn't thrown their hat into the ring...yet.- 4dna, on 04/08/2008, -4/+13Im a pitzer student and a longtime friend of Dashiell. he told me this story in class today and I'm glad he posted it here. This hateful bitch (and I use that term sparingly) needs to be held accountable. She's clearly a danger to the pitzer community and should be expelled or suspended at the very least. I understand why dashiell doesn't want to post her name, but I have no problem ruining her life over this awful incident.
Her full name is Theresa Accomazzo and she's a senior at pizer and a member of the feminist coalition. Most people call her terri. Her email is theresa_accomazzo@pitzer.edu
Have fun applying for a job if you graduate.- BigManOnCampus, on 04/08/2008, -4/+3While I deplore how the masculinist coalition is being treated, revealing names and addresses of people online is very very poor form. I must bury your comment because your post will have unfair consequences for this girl.
- saxreturns, on 04/08/2008, -1/+2She probably knew that the Masculinist coalition has a lot of online support (given that there were comments during the meeting about digg.com by feminists who attended). Anyone who threatens violence against someone wishing only for peaceful dialogue deserves everything they get.
- BigManOnCampus, on 04/08/2008, -2/+2I'm not defending her threats, I'm saying you can't show how wrong she is by giving her information to everyone in the world and make her a target.
- theunutofsjs, on 06/17/2008, -0/+0Agreed BigMan!
I would also like to add that as a Pitzer Alum I am disappointed that the sense of "community" I left behind in California is not being portrayed here. It's quite sad. "Pitzer Men's Society" as it used to be known, did have one positive while I was there. They catalyzed a gender discussion in classrooms and in the residential community. It's sad that it has now taken the center stage for public (internet) shaming, blame, and as BigMan expressed, "poor form". Save it for the email wars I so used to "love" to read on campus. Everyone can say they've done crazy or cool things they're either proud of or not so proud of in college. You're condemning this girl saying things like "have fun applying for a job if you graduate"... jeez. If you know Theresa and you're making this personal it not right. And if you don't know her, it sounds like you're hating for no good reason. Dugg down for hatefulness, and BigMan, dugg for having a point.

- smacksaw, on 04/08/2008, -0/+5Violence solves everything. Unless it's violence against women. Because violence is only right when she says it is.

- smacksaw, on 04/08/2008, -1/+5To be read aloud:
Theresa Accomazzo, you are a dangerous and deluded individual if you threatened to harm anyone physically. You should be arrested.
Feminists - you are no better than the masculinists. You cannot focus on the issues of one group and claim it's about equality. If you cared about equality, you'd be an equalist like me. Because injustice knows no gender, but you obviously do, Theresa Accomazzo.

You can if one group is at an inherent disadvantage in society? Women have had to fight long and hard for the rights they have now, and in most places in the world, it is still a *huge* disadvantage to be born female. But I don't see anything wrong in a masculinist society if it is about equal rights for men too.- smacksaw, on 04/08/2008, -0/+3You missed my point. You fight for equality for everyone. The concept is so simple that I think you missed it.
So no, you can't focus on one group. Well, you can, but then you're a hypocrite that is exacerbating the problem by shifting disadvantage to arbitrarily named groupings from other arbitrarily self-identified groupings.

- nblsavage, on 04/08/2008, -2/+3Seems like the masculinists and the feminists have something in common after all. They're both attention whores.
- ironicsans, on 04/08/2008, -0/+1I always preferred Dangermouse to Bananaman.
