- Nudar, on 02/05/2008, -3/+114Somehow I think "hurl" is the wrong word for what they did.
- astounded, on 02/05/2008, -3/+70NICE CATCH!
- thisoneisunique, on 02/05/2008, -5/+66Guys, what's with all the jokes? Can you imagine what it takes to let go of a kid from that height?
9 people died in that fire for god's sake, show some respect. - heavystone, on 02/05/2008, -3/+59This is sick. I hope the parents made it....
- thisoneisunique, on 02/05/2008, -0/+54That picture was taken by a hobby photographer who passed the house before the firefighters arrived and before there were any outside signs of the fire, only the screaming people on the balconies. The police were already there because they had secured the roads for a carnival parade nearby. Firefighters arrived a few minutes later. With ladder trucks. As you can see here:

(taken from this article in German: http://www.spiegel.de/panorama/justiz/0,1518,53297 ... ) - swizzcheez, on 02/05/2008, -4/+52And I thought that NY Giants catch was amazing...
- Rockout, on 02/05/2008, -6/+45It's a story on Digg about the police that paints them in a positive light. Of course the masses will yell "shopped!"
- racco, on 02/05/2008, -0/+29my heart dropped when I saw this on the news. it must be horrific having to throw your baby like that trusting the strangers below to catch.
humanity shows its still around every now and again and it really feels good - yohnstoppable, on 02/05/2008, -4/+26This is a credible news source
- FriedTurkey, on 02/05/2008, -3/+24Yeah it is better to breathe in the smoke, pass out and then die.
- jetboyterp, on 02/05/2008, -8/+29I want to know where Michael Jackson was....Germany? Balcony? Baby? All sounds too familiar...
- KamikazeeDriver, on 02/05/2008, -2/+21The catch was great, but it lost all coolness when the officer pitched him down and did an endzone dance.
- Nudar, on 02/05/2008, -5/+24Nice to perpetuate the stereotype that all Germans are neo-Nazis.
- Tallon29, on 02/05/2008, -13/+31The police officer then spiked the baby on the pavement and did the Icky Shuffle.
- tulpe, on 02/05/2008, -5/+23yes please.. we are such an underdeveloped country we could really need them.. bye the way.. eyewitnesses reported that the fire took only 3 minutes to reach the upper floor!
man.. if we only had those rocket driven american fire trucks - rohan2kool, on 02/05/2008, -2/+19That was their hail mary pass. literally.
- crwills, on 02/05/2008, -1/+16I love how you can berate someone for being a "sick neo-Nazi" and then (derogatorily) call them a "*****" in the same sentence... way to go.
- Grimdotdotdot, on 02/05/2008, -1/+16Unless they were alerted very quickly and were stationed nearby, the trucks would not have arrived in time to help.
- WafflesID, on 02/05/2008, -2/+15Ahhh THERE is the photoshop conspiracy theorist.
Can't post a picture on digg without some idiot accusing it of being photoshopped. - feshmania, on 02/05/2008, -2/+14Imagine seeing that in person...
"Oh, man, look a fir--is that a baby being dropped from a third story window?!" - londubh, on 02/05/2008, -4/+16OMG.
- bffoley, on 02/05/2008, -3/+15SAVE MY HORSE!
- custal, on 02/05/2008, -2/+13Apparently nine died, five of which where children.
- pxmm, on 02/05/2008, -1/+11The Daily Mail may be a lot of things, namely a bigoted soapbox for conservatives whining about immigration, but it more definitely is not comparable to the National Enquirer. See The Sport, The Sun and The Star for that.
- Myonosken, on 02/05/2008, -0/+10Maybe not, but you fed the troll.
- mikeruiz7, on 02/05/2008, -3/+13This is definitely going to be considered one of the most powerful photos of the year, assuming it's not photoshopped.
- ronaldinho, on 02/05/2008, -0/+9Perhaps they open the window so that 1) get fresh air to breathe (human instinct) and 2) someone will notice and offer help. I don't know, honestly, if I don't think risking running through a fire is worth it, that's what I would have done. Although I think I rather survive with some burns rather than die breathing in the smoke......
- plingboot, on 02/05/2008, -0/+8Technically not, but it's just as *****.
- speedyrev, on 02/05/2008, -1/+9It was on every major news service this morning. Seems your comment is false.
http://news.google.com/news?q=baby+fire+germany&ie ... - stempniaked, on 02/05/2008, -0/+7Actually they did.
- bhrgero, on 02/05/2008, -1/+8http://www.ksta.de/ks/images/mdsBild/1200140093132 ...
the fotos you see in the article are taken from a bystander before the fire trucks were there...
and i know, you are beeing sarcastic - pax85, on 02/05/2008, -0/+7I've checked up on that story. It is definately true. Several german news sources say, that parents threw their children down. One report says that two children were thrown down from the third floor and the police catched them. Some adults died of injuries after the jump, others were injured.
So, the story is definatley true, and I believe the image is real as well. - badenglishihave, on 02/05/2008, -1/+8I can be your hero, baby!
- orangetiki, on 02/05/2008, -7/+13A video needs to be made of this with commentators. "And he makes the catch. Touchdown Germany"
- ploop, on 02/05/2008, -4/+10Kick the baby!
- ploop, on 02/05/2008, -0/+6I prefer your reply to the other replier's replier. Or your reply to that reply.
- Daiken, on 02/05/2008, -0/+6To hurl implies that you're throwing the object with force, generally for horizontal distance. In these pictures, the baby seemed to be just dropped or slightly throw.
- GeorgeStone2, on 02/05/2008, -3/+8Damn you Daily Mail!!!
- SmpleJohn, on 02/05/2008, -1/+6It's on CNN too. http://www.cnn.com/2008/WORLD/europe/02/04/germany ...
- DemDude, on 02/05/2008, -0/+5Yes. Yes it is.
- Chrispyc1211, on 02/05/2008, -0/+5...doesn't it say "Miraculously, they both made it out?"
She's in the hospital, but they both got clear.
Oh, how stupid I'd feel if the baby hadn't made it. So much for a bid to save the kid. - shadeOfGrey, on 02/05/2008, -0/+4Most areas in America can have fire trucks onsite in under 5 minutes.
- MWeather, on 02/05/2008, -0/+4The cops had time to get there.
- mwolfzorn, on 02/05/2008, -0/+4Or death...
The biggest threat of a fire isn't things collapsing on you, or catching on fire. The leading cause of death in a fire is smoke inhalation, it's something close to 80% of all fire-related deaths are caused by smoke inhalation. Standing on the balcony was probably the smartest thing they could have done since there would be fresh air and those stone balconies look like they can support more than 5 people. - mike23w, on 02/05/2008, -1/+5Holy crap. Imagine if he missed.
- dikwad, on 02/05/2008, -0/+4thats the daily mail for you. Sensationalist *****
- jjesusfreak01, on 02/05/2008, -1/+5I was wondering about that. When was the last time you saw the police and EMTs get to a scene before the firefighters...in the US, they are always first.
- bhrgero, on 02/05/2008, -0/+4everything happened as you find it in the Daily Mail. its all over German media. The neo-nazi linkage is not proved at all. they started following leads that someone planted the fire as of today, cause a little girl saw someone starting a fire in the hallway.
no one speaks of neo nazis yet, as a lot of times in the last years linkage to neo nazis was brought up to fast and when it got confirmed that the backround was actually a jealous husband going crazy or something, right wingers always claimed that the liberal media tries to point fingers and wants to blame the far right the moment someone gets hurt. -
