- TrevorBradley, on 11/02/2008, -6/+103We, the non-americans on digg, would comment, but we're afraid of being punched in the face.
- mikesbaker, on 11/02/2008, -0/+80it's important that he is Asian because when / if caught these men will face hate crime charges on top of assault.

- collution, on 11/02/2008, -2/+67"1. Why do they keep repeating that the victim was asian. is it that important?"
Well the guys who assault him did call him "Chinaman" and questioned whether or not he was American. It only makes sense to mention [he was a/type of] minority he was. - parisii, on 11/02/2008, -22/+86good little nazi thugs.
this is the political climate Palin, esp. and McCain are promoting with their campaign lies. This happens anyway. I don't want a political party in office that promotes it. - whiteguysamurai, on 11/02/2008, -3/+45Asian American dude, he probably speaks english better than you.

If you read the article you would also know that a woman was sexually assaulted in the same area and it was probably the same 4 pieces of trash that did the beating.
- staticneuron, on 11/02/2008, -1/+31"One of the men — described as being a blond white male about 19 or 20 — said, "Do you think you are an American?" called him a "Chinaman," punched him in the face "multiple times" and told him to say that he loved America, police said. "
Y'see Badandy I am not sure if you noticed but there are still a whole bunch of racists out there. And them being pointed out and charged with this behavior is better than pretending that it doesn't exist. The same type of stuff shows up in digg articles like the one with that school girl to lie and say she was attacked by mexicans and the one with the lady that said she was attacked by a black man and had a B carved in her face. In the original articles, before they were shown to be lying, we had many people screaming about racism against whites and how it was unfair, then after the truth comes out it is all silent.
The sad FACT is that you don't see that many cases of racism against whites vs those against minorities. And it is a simple reason..... that is because whites are a majority. I am sorry if you hate hearing about it. But there are people out there who have nothing better to do than make victims out of other cultures and races. So instead of blaming the victims, which seem all the popular rage nowadays, why dontcha take a closer look at the people being accused of this behavior. - AgahniMalebogia, on 11/02/2008, -7/+35I think most Democrats found that song funny instead of infuriating. ***** 4chan. - algaeturd, on 11/02/2008, -3/+18Ha. I realize that republicans have never, ever embraced any kind of message of 'tolerance,' although the Christian values promote that above all else. Maybe that's why the party is falling apart so quickly.
Fundamentalists...could you PLEASE start your own crazy political party where you only embrace rich, white, 'godly' folk who hate everyone else who isn't exactly like them and doesn't live exactly the way that they want you to live?
That would make things much easier and make the elections a lot less complicated. Or better yet, go start your own country with Palin and you guys can wrongly criticize other 'religious extremists' even though you are very often 'religious extremists.' Please consider this idea.
Thanks. - staticneuron, on 11/02/2008, -4/+19Screw that noise mikesbaker, I have seen several republican gatherings down here in the south and it quickly turns into something that reminds me of a klan rally.

- Stitchopoulis, on 11/02/2008, -1/+14You know what else makes america look like a bunch of douches? All the other douchey behavior.
According to likely sketchy numbers I found on the internet, about 5% of Utah mormons are polygamist, yet 35% of Utah Mormons believe polygamists should not be prosecuted. But the Mormon church is pouring money into campaigning against California's Prop. 8, with the stated intention of "preserving the traditional value of marriage" as being between 1 man and 1 woman.
It's the same old story "well, it's racist to say 'don't vote for a black man,' so, uh, don't vote for a man with the middle name Hussein" "Don't say you are fighting against Gay rights, say it's for 'traditional marriage' because that'll never come back to bite us in the ass"
Even if those numbers I found are totally fake, the Mormon church is really in the worst possible position to be arguing for the sanctity of "traditional marriage."
Unless they're doing it in a country of douches. - kleash, on 11/02/2008, -9/+22I'm actually not surprised at the racism in US...

- Mujokan, on 11/02/2008, -1/+10Spontaneous violence because you have an anger problem or alcohol problem isn't as bad as hate crimes. That's just your animal brain coming out on top. Hate crimes involve the rational part of your brain. You have some theory about why this group of people should be hurt. You're more likely to plan stuff out, to be systematic about it, to convince others to join your cause. It has a lot more potential for harm. It also leads to terrorization of these groups, so many people live in fear. That divides society up along group lines, which can lead to a vicious circle.
The immediate damage is the same, but the potential consequences are much worse, so hate crimes deserve special attention. Maybe just about anyone could lash out in blind rage if you pushed them far enough at the wrong time. But someone who has a systematic ideology of violent racism is a threat that needs watching. - ism70605, on 11/02/2008, -1/+10Do you hope they get A comfy chair? - inactive, on 11/02/2008, -4/+12The paradigm of Left vs Right has a fundamental flaw. You're ignoring intelligence.
There is Left Smart and Left Stupid, and there is Right Smart and Right Stupid.
Most Right Smart people I know realize that the best way to decrease the number of abortions is to actually help the communities which have high rates of abortions, i.e. the inner city.
Most Right Smart people I know support decriminalization of drugs because they can see that gangs get their guns from money obtained through drug sales, and that regulated production, licensing, and taxation would create transparency in the system where criminal elements would be unable to get the money to continue operations the way they do. And that the populations of these areas with gangs wouldn't be as afraid to talk to the police because A) The gangs are weaker and B) they won't themselves get busted for doing drugs.
Most Right Smart people I know realize that a funded preventative healthcare system saves money and makes our workforce more productive.
Most Right Stupid people I know don't understand what socialism is and proceed to call it un-American regardless of the clear benefits it can have on society while still leaving the free market intact.
There are many things I can say about the Stupid Left, but most of you conservatives already know the examples. Pulling out of Iraq IMMEDIATELY is a good example. I think it is obvious that Iraq would likely turn into a situation similar to Congo and Rwanda where you have ideologues broadcasting their messages of death and destruction toward their enemies and an inept government unable to stop anything.
Or when Stupid Left demeans our soldiers. They are idiots who don't understand the hard work, honor, and sacrifice undergone by people who CHOOSE to serve. They don't see the irony in being pro-choice and anti-military just as this ***** didn't see the irony in telling the victim to say "I love America" after singing a song from TAWP. - sweetbean, on 11/02/2008, -0/+8amen.
it's funny how ignorant people will make fun of someone speaking a foreign language AND speak clear english, while the ignorant english speaking person still fumbles with the one language they speak. - abaaa, on 11/02/2008, -1/+9What Rocketbird means by "making light" is that people are making stupid jokes/immature comments about it and not taking it seriously.
- gospe1337, on 11/02/2008, -0/+7^ Are hate crimes charges more difficult to prove than other crimes?
Generally, yes. Some prosecutors have expressed a reluctance to prosecute bias crimes because of the additional evidentiary burden at trial, but proving the element of intent at trial is not unique to hate crime statutes. Many criminal offenses — including possession of a controlled substance with the intent to deliver, aggravated battery or assault on a peace officer, or murder in the first degree — require additional intent elements to be proved beyond a reasonable doubt. - ThatsNotPoetry, on 11/02/2008, -1/+8"Shaved head" does not equal "skinhead."
