- angers, on 10/12/2007, -1/+39I wouldn't be surprised if it was done by real people, it might seem like it's not because of the good editing, but it's just some simple coordination.
By the way, AKBANK is a popular Turkish bank. - mddleNameIsEarl, on 10/12/2007, -0/+22The developer next to me is Turkish. Here's his translation:
to be strong
to be a pioneer
to be supportive
to give power
to be creative
to move forward
for Turkey
to make it grow
innovative power of Turkey
AKBANK - JeremyBanks, on 10/12/2007, -2/+23No, you didn't.
- nilobject, on 10/12/2007, -1/+18inkyblue2 has it right: this kind of thing is a cinch for any decent marching band.
The DCI bands and the Blast tour groups do stuff twice as amazing with twice as much precision as this commercial. - admdrew, on 10/12/2007, -0/+16Same comment, not all caps.
http://www.akbank.com/doc/reklam/yenilikciguc.mpg - inkyblue2, on 10/12/2007, -1/+15this could definitely be done, no props necessary. the whole thing is comparable both in number of people and number of forms to a long-ish marching band show.
- Petrarch1603, on 10/12/2007, -10/+23I wonder if its real...some of the scenes go so fast its hard to tell
- Bioshocker, on 10/12/2007, -4/+16Video of North Korean gymnastics: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N9ZrP40wdlg
- tizz66, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13Yeah that's what I was going to add.
Here's some of them:

http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=1513171249166262839&q=talktalk
I think there were a few more too. - Lososaurus, on 10/12/2007, -4/+15Too bad American advetisements aren't that creative =(
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9The best ones are the guitar and the running guy. That takes some SERIOUS choreography.
- gcnaddict, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9Question: who did the background music? It has a rhythm to it which I enjoy alot :D
- igraham09, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11yeah, it's similar to a marching band... all you do is: get a top-down camera, film it, then speed it up a bit
:D - cphuntington97, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7If you like it, go find a show in your area at http://www.dci.org/
They even play music. :P - BugMeNot2, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Most likely done with CG copies of real people in a program such as Massive (same technique used in that football stadium Superbowl ad for Budweiser).
- igraham09, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6contradicting my earlier comment
no, i seriously think it's CG... because if you look near the end with the tree and the bird, the people that make up the bird dont look like real people, they look animated
but you never know - hknhkn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5being from turkey, i read a lot of stuff about this in the papers.
the agency responsible for the ad said that it had taken a full week for rehearsals and the final product was shot in 2 days, and that the people in it were brought in from the US. - lbjazz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5nilobject . . .
Exactly my thoughts. If it is actual people and not a computer animation then I bet they used a grid and set system just like many marching bands and DCI corps.
Wanna see what we're talking about? Go to www.DCI.org and find a show near you this summer. - ThirstyFerret, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5It looks like real people... like the Talk Talk ads that go with Big Brother in the UK...
Some pretty amazing things done there... an excellent piece of videomaking, whether real or not. - D4V1S, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7The running man reminds me of the Opening Ceremony of the olympics this year.
- D4r7h3v1l, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5exactly.
- EricPeters, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Ahhhh. That video brings back memories from Marching Band... That is definitely real, just sped up a lot.
- Bioshocker, on 10/12/2007, -10/+14I guess people are burying you because they've never seen a North Korean gymnastics display? I can't think of any other reason. Those of you clicking -1 should go and find some videos. North Korea might be utterly useless at almost everything, but they do incredible synchronised group gymnastic displays as part of their Kim Jong-Il worship.
- duckedtapedemon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4you really don't need colored squares lighting up, give people some credit.
Its just formations like in a marching band, and those aren't hard to remember with practice. - Mace37, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3That coke commercial was much less impressive, just crowds of people walking into a circle of other people. This one uses arm positions, et al.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Odd...i submitted the same story 10 hours before, and only 3 diggs.
I guess the title makes all the difference. All you have to do is put the word amazing in it, and you're set.
So when do we get a new crowd on Digg? You know, broaden the horizon a little bit beyond "amazing" and stories on linux/ajax?
just curious. - trunkster, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3You might use this bank if you want to avoid US taxes.
- scarybunnyman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3DCI FTW!... I'm going to the South Eastern Championships in the Georiga Dome in a couple of weeks.
If you haven't ever been to one, they show the championships every year on ESPN 2 sometime around September I think. - steelmaverick, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6LMAO!! I remember that. It's not as complex as these ads though.
Watch me get modded down because i started with LMAO. - ahawks, on 10/12/2007, -15/+18Stop saying amazing!
- SirThom, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3DCI FTW.
- MalDON, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Ah yes, marching band season. Gotta start getting in the mood
- duruq, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I am a Turk, living in Turkey. This is real, not CG. There have been many interviews with the director, the Ad agency and other people involved in the ad. It created a great deal of hype, actually.
I put some more info on the reddit comments, if you are really into it
http://reddit.com/info/9v5w/comments/9w6w?context=5
Also, if you want a hi quality version, a better one from the one found in the akbank web site, pm me. - Niten, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I agree with the assessments of nilobject and others, who pointed out that there are DCI corps and other bands who do this kind of thing, too - while playing an instrument. Therefore, it seems most likely this ad was filmed live, then edited to bring it up to speed.
Here's a clip of the Madison Scouts performing a show based on Jesus Christ Superstar, for example: http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-8847216151484512506 - canUdiggit, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4I can't believe all of the DCI comments. w00t! My worlds are colliding. Anyone march?
@scarybunnyman: I'll see you at the dome on 7/29
If anyone wants proof that this type of stuff is possible take a look at these

None of these have been sped up or contain any CG - snipes, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2From now on, everyone must sub 'Amazing' with 'Excessively Cool'.
Please. - abaybas, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3This is a Turkish bank, and it is real people. Some parts have been fast forwarded however to save time.
- juanotejano, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I've seen things almost as impresive done one right after another with no down time by hgih school marching bands so no digg.
- maximkovalenko, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3It's real, even though it's been sped up a bit.
Impressive? Yes...but then again, a lot of college marching bands can do the same kind of thing. - Miyazaki, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Busby Berkeley was doing this in the 30's with half naked ladies...so, he wins in my book.
- nvision, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2The music to this commercial, as well as others by Akbank is available at
http://www.akbank.com/674.aspx - yokat, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I think he means Americans, I have an account in this bank.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Carlton did something like this once, on an even larger scale:
http://youtube.com/watch?v=tZslkC4y2qY&search=big%20ad
although i doubt that this one is all real people - SeattleGaucho, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Not really. Today leading special CGI companies including some random factors to make it appear as real. I vote for computer generated add.
There is a similar one airing in the US (can't remember what's about) with less people, slower and the camera is closer to the people, so you can see it's real. It just took some good choreographing. - Indie, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I dunno if anyone said this but the Video that was posted of North Korean Gynamsts it actually a Faithless Music video. Also the ad looks pretty real to me, It reminds me of an Old British Airways advert Which actually used real people. It's from 1989 and was also Parodied by Nintendo
British Airways: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jxs106rp5RQ&search=British%20Airways
Nintendo: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9ga3PKGG1kQ&search=Nintendo%20Mario%20Commercial - MalDON, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I just saw them a few months ago. Amazing stuff.
- meznak, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2That's an excessively cool idea. You must be amazingly clever! ;)
- Tatusmi, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2that's pretty cool... the running stickperson is definitly the best.
- timmyallen, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1i dont think it matters if its fake or real, thats very cool indeed.
- mastahack, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1c0ment 101!
