- iamclassic, on 03/26/2008, -0/+24Makes me wonder why more able people don't work for things.
Lazy?
Bored?
Apathy?
Perhaps a mix of things but lack of motivation (including my own) never ceases to frustrate me.
Interesting read. - FulcrumVitesse, on 03/26/2008, -2/+19Wow. These people have some serious guts and perseverance. Great article.
- jdaw4210, on 03/26/2008, -1/+16Why isn't John Locke on the list? DON'T TELL HIM WHAT HE CAN'T DO.
- EatingPie, on 03/26/2008, -0/+13Not only did Beethoven remain a great composer, but he wrote the single greatest piece of music ever conceived -- the 9th Symphony -- completely deaf.
Bethany Hamilton also comes to mind. Her left arm was bitten off by a shark in Hawaii, but she still continues to improve her surfing, placing in the Top-5 last year in a contest in San Clemente. And I would consider just having the guts to go back in the water after a shark attack an accomplishment!

- trafficlights, on 03/26/2008, -1/+12It's because there's always somebody stealing my ideas, or forming a conspiracy to cheat me of success. Plus people are too stupid to get how brilliant my ideas are.
- doctechnical, on 03/26/2008, -0/+6I knew the server couldn't do it.
- bagelmaster, on 03/26/2008, -0/+5You summed up my failures!
- toasterweasel, on 03/26/2008, -0/+5i must tend to my goats now.....
- barryiggins, on 03/26/2008, -1/+5I don't understand all the hating on MrBabyMan. He generally seems to submit pretty quality stuff.
And if you have a problem with the system, its probably pretty much a waste of time to just whine about the individuals who exploit it. - bossm4n, on 03/26/2008, -1/+5The video of the high school kid with autism, Jason McElwain coming on the floor to play in the last game of the season is still one of the greatest things I have ever seen. He had never played in an actual game before this. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1fw1CcxCUgg
- vanguardanon, on 03/26/2008, -0/+4We had a wrestler in my high school with no legs. He actually did pretty well. People didn't know how to wrestle against him and he had 189 lb upper body strength in the 130 lb class.
- fucter, on 03/26/2008, -0/+3great, i feel like I have wasted my life now.
- pdevries, on 03/26/2008, -0/+3Jim Abbott? One arm becomes a major league pitcher and pitches a no hitter on top of that? How in the world does he not make the list? (And yes he would pitch and then catch a line drive hit directly at him)
- dreesemonkey, on 03/26/2008, -0/+3Shame on them not including Team Hoyt, arguably the most moving and motivational story in the history of the universe.

- Meekus, on 03/26/2008, -3/+6Somebody said it couldn't be done,
But he with a chuckle replied
That "maybe it couldn't," but he would be one
Who wouldn't say so till he'd tried.
So he buckled right in with the trace of a grin
On his face. If he worried he hid it.
He started to sing and he tackled the thing
That couldn't be done, and he did it.
Somebody scoffed: "Oh, you'll never do that;
At least no one has ever done it";
But he took off his coat and he took off his hat,
And the first thing we knew he'd begun it.
With a lift of his chin and a bit of a grin,
Without any doubting or quiddit,
He started to sing and he tackled the thing
That couldn't be done, and he did it.
There are thousands to tell you it cannot be done,
There are thousands to prophesy failure;
There are thousands to point out to you, one by one,
The dangers that wait to assail you.
But just buckle in with a bit of a grin,
Just take off your coat and go to it;
Just start to sing as you tackle the thing
That "cannot be done," and you'll do it.
"It couldn't be done" - by Edgar Guest - inactive, on 03/26/2008, -0/+3He broke his back and was told he would never walk again, no? He made an amazing come back.
- Space579, on 03/26/2008, -0/+2!?! What!?!
What about the Jamaican bobsled team!?!
They did it anyway!!! - inactive, on 03/26/2008, -0/+2What was his disability? I know his left leg was a few millimeters shorter than the right but that's hardly the kind on the list.
- seandaly, on 03/26/2008, -0/+2Wow, now that's inspiring... Kind of makes you feel like ***** when you tell yourself "I can't" for any reason. Great collection!
- inactive, on 03/26/2008, -0/+2I wannt these guys as the cast for the next saw film.
- charlietuna, on 03/26/2008, -0/+2Isn't Mark Goffeney sitting in an alleyway? Just sayin'... I mean that's not a flattering picture.
- stcmoose32, on 03/27/2008, -0/+1Especially Weihenmayer. What an inspiration to "gay" people around the world!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Fd97hVVD9U - TheOther1, on 08/26/2008, -0/+1Mark Goffeney, proof that even without arms, you can still lack any sort of fashion sense.
- inactive, on 03/26/2008, -0/+1The first guy, the wrestler is from around here. Had his story on for 2 weeks straight for his run to state. Story never got old.
http://dailychatter.wordpress.com - aquireworth, on 03/26/2008, -0/+1Such an inspiring article! Proof that the human will and a little faith can go a long way. Hopefully it encourages those of us that have no physical ailments not to be so lazy...writing to myself here.
- rawg, on 03/26/2008, -0/+1I remember reading an article about Erik Weihenmayer in Outside magazine when he was training to climb Mount Everest. Another world class climber had criticized Erik for irresponsibly putting his climbing team at risk because he was blind.
At first Erik was discouraged by the comments until he realized that the other climber knew nothing about him, nothing about how he trained, nothing about his climbing experience, nothing about how he worked with his climbing team. All this other climber knew about Erik was that he was blind and that he was basing his opinion on that single fact so Erik decided to do disregard him and make the climb anyway.
Truly inspirational lesson. Don't let other people define your limits, find them yourself. - inactive, on 03/26/2008, -0/+1Your Mom
- jimjoke, on 03/26/2008, -0/+1Someone shop "I love you THIS much" onto the first pic!
- cplex, on 03/26/2008, -1/+2The list is awesome, but where is Terry Fox ?
- exodii, on 03/26/2008, -4/+510. The man with no penis. But he did it anyway.
- artofwar420, on 03/27/2008, -0/+1The John Bramblitt story really touched me. *Tear*
***** me and my procrastination. - griffeycom, on 03/26/2008, -0/+1Soon as I saw Erik Wihenmayer on that list I couldn't help but remember the famous news cast slip up...

Horrible quality, but audio is all that matters :) - SarahAK, on 03/26/2008, -0/+1that is just way cool i love it!! you should never let things like that bring you down they didnt and now look at them a whole lot happier than us probably
- koob, on 03/26/2008, -0/+1This story is just another excuse to look at people with ***** up bodies.
- Conwaysb0718, on 03/26/2008, -0/+1I dont know why, and I know this is extremely lame, but this is what popped into my head after reading the title...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_ZmimJGmrUQ - dolphus, on 03/26/2008, -0/+1Awesome inspiring article! Thanks for posting this here!
- jefbob, on 03/26/2008, -0/+1I live in Ohio and there was an article in the local paper about Dustin Carter (first one in the list) a couple weeks ago. I was greatly impressed with his story. My sister was lucky enough to see him wrestle live in the state tournament since she was there. She said it was amazing to watch him.
- DeskFlyer, on 03/26/2008, -1/+2Hey, thanks for the link. Now ***** off.
- BraveQuail, on 03/26/2008, -0/+1I was lucky enough to hear Erik Weihenmayer talk at my school a couple of years ago. Apart from his amazing stories and of course his acheivements, he was one of the most down to earth and modest people I've ever met. He was also an amazing public speaker and left everybody in the room in awe after his talk. If you ever have the chance to hear him talk, do not miss it as he will leave a lasting positive impression on you.
- czeman, on 03/26/2008, -0/+1Speaking of cheerleaders, remember that one that keeps fixing banners while the football team is running towards and through it? Is she PHYSICALLY disabled yet?
http://www.break.com/index/cheerleader-gets-run-ov ... - huckabee, on 03/26/2008, -0/+1The perception of "physical disability" is motivation in itself. These people were willing to try, and eventually prove, that they were able to do things that were not expected of them. Ability has much more to do with mindset than a fully functional body.
- Heggy, on 03/26/2008, -0/+1VAN Beethoven.
Composed some of the greatest music ever. - czeman, on 03/26/2008, -0/+1Do those cheerleaders do it?
- ukrainial, on 03/26/2008, -0/+0It doesn't list Warren Macdonald. He had both of his legs amputated, and climbs ***** mountains.

- girlpirate, on 03/27/2008, -1/+1As a Canadian, I've heard enough about Terry. Everybody knows about him hippity hopping across Canada. people walking and running on prosthetic legs is no longer amazing *****. Not to take away from his moment or anything. It was still amazing but in comparison to the people on this list...meh. I mean really, could Terry Fox play the guitar with his toes? could he even play one with his hands?
- badwithcomputer, on 03/26/2008, -0/+1pitzer masculinists should be on that list.
- inactive, on 03/26/2008, -1/+1uhhh where is bruce lee?
