- Eadwyn1, on 12/01/2009, -1/+12How did this hit the front page? There was maybe one that really had to do with gambling, the rest were just generic superstitions that have loose ties with gambling.
- ATL, on 12/01/2009, -1/+12***** LIST SUCKS
- fredcondo, on 12/01/2009, -1/+10Buried because it seems to have been written by me. When I was 12.
- Eurynom0s, on 12/01/2009, -1/+9Thank you for non-page-reloading slideshows!
- joker927, on 12/01/2009, -1/+7Their first superstition is crossing your fingers? What a terrible article.
- paulyoung1980, on 12/01/2009, -1/+6wow, there goes two minutes of my life I'll never get back
- doctechnical, on 11/30/2009, -0/+5I don't know about luck, but a rabbit's foot makes a great cat toy.
- AaronCo, on 12/01/2009, -0/+41. Crossing your Fingers
2. Spilling the Salt
3. Unlucky 2 and 50 Dollar Bills
4. Blowing on Dice
5. Knocking on Wood
6. Lucky Rabbit's Foot
7. Triskaidekaphobia: Fear of the Number 13 - TheKillDoctor, on 12/01/2009, -0/+4I always say it's bad luck to be superstitious.
- prankboy973, on 12/01/2009, -1/+4"Knocking on wood is one of the only superstitions that I’ve seen people actually perform because they refused to fall victim to other superstitions. I think of it as the “just in case” superstition, and we do it all the time, not just in the casino. Maybe it’s because we don’t want to tempt fate or because wood happens to be everywhere and, really, why not, but the root of this superstition can be found, interestingly enough, in roots, specifically those belonging to trees."
Why did you waste my time saying this when all you had to say was "Tree spirits"? - CptBuck, on 12/01/2009, -1/+4Of course the very concept of "Luck" is the greatest of all gambling superstitions. Just look at articles like this http://www.articlesbase.com/online-gambling-articl ...
Anyone who talks about luck running out, or luck changing or whatever is a ***** idiot.
The chances are the same every time. If you flip a coin and get heads 100 times in a row theres still a 50/50 chance that that 101st flip will be heads.
That being said, of course there are ways to improve your odds, and some games like poker obviously involve significant skill, but luck is a stupid idea. - jsffive, on 12/01/2009, -0/+3The one about fifty dollar bills isn't a superstition so much as a caution: a fifty can be mistaken for a five. Or at least that's what Doyle Brunson says in his book "Super System".
- MyCorona, on 12/01/2009, -2/+5"Anyway, because of people’s irrational belief in witches we now have the irrational practice of crossing your fingers every time we want something to happen. "
And because of people's irrational belief in Jesus we have the irrational practice of crossing ones fingers to ward off witches. - iamsmooth, on 12/01/2009, -0/+2Another one is when people sit down at a black jack table in the middle of a deck and "change" the cards by getting dealt in. People always blame the person if they start losing, when in reality it could go either way. Sure, it's a little rude, but really you're still just giving the casino your money.
- phxphreak, on 12/01/2009, -1/+3Wait, someone has to tell me what gambling is, because I guess I had it wrong all this time.
- geopiscean, on 11/30/2009, -2/+4people become too superstitious while gambling and it differs from person to person...
- ChiGoose, on 11/30/2009, -1/+3I don't have any gambling superstitions and I'm a bad gamer. Perhaps I should pick up on some of them.
- joosebuck, on 12/01/2009, -1/+3the one about $50s is wrong. gamblers don't use them because they were occasionally confused for $5s and people were shortchanged
- AmericanGunner, on 12/01/2009, -0/+1this list shouldnt have went live.
- inactive, on 12/03/2009, -0/+1Ever learn how to read, moron? "or you are said to have incredibly bad luck." No one ever said luck was actually affected anything. Using the word does not make anyone an idiot and I presented 2 examples where it would be correctly used. You demonstrated that you are a moron.
- iheartbakon, on 12/01/2009, -0/+1Your nick is one letter away from "virus". Like ***** I'm clicking any of those.

- ChicagoRounder, on 11/30/2009, -1/+1Ha perhaps, perhaps
- Egg333, on 12/01/2009, -1/+1Welcome to digg.
- inactive, on 12/01/2009, -1/+1So someone plays $1 in a lottery with random numbers picked by a machine and they win. What do you call them? Then play $1 again and at unbelievable odds they win again. Is there a word we would use to describe them?
And by the way, due to the weight difference the chances are not 50/50 that a coin will land on heads. Even if it were, the probability of a coin landing heads 100 times in a row is very low. For someone to lose this game 100 times in a row you'd start to believe something was wrong. Or lets say Rock Paper Scissors where there's an even chance you will win, lose, or tie. Sure there is a 33% chance of losing each time, but if you lose 100 times in a row either someone is cheating or you are said to have incredibly bad luck. - candorny, on 12/01/2009, -2/+0How did this hit the front page?

100 Diggs a day, every day for half a year. That's how. - Lonandubh, on 12/01/2009, -5/+2One rumor regarding 13 is that it has to do with the Lunar year having 13 months while the solar has 12 (ish), so it may have been a demonizing of the Lunar calendar.
- candorny, on 12/01/2009, -3/+0I love how you think that everyone who talks about being lucky actually thinks that luck is playing a role.
It is a ***** expression used when things are going your way. - candorny, on 12/01/2009, -3/+0Why are they called "gambling" superstitions when the only one that is limited to gambling is blowing on dice. (and even that is done for non-gambling things like board games.)
