- ousthouse, on 02/15/2009, -0/+18Great article. But it's a little depressing that there's a 74 year old whose far more fit than I am.

- scarz99, on 02/15/2009, -1/+14I thought after a certain age (41?) you couldn't reenter?
- qazws, on 02/15/2009, -2/+12"Where else can a 74-year-old go and have fun?" umm, relaxing in Hawaii, Florida, California. Go to sleep, meeting people or family. Reading good books, watch movies, create art, drive any where. Have some love fun or Relaxation.
- gasoline, on 02/15/2009, -1/+10Nope, she's not 53. They've been married for that long, so she's probably about the same age.
- doublefelix, on 02/14/2009, -5/+14He served as one of Saddam Hussein's private physicians causing Saddam to quip "I'm glad they sent me one with gray hair this time."
- MetalliTooL, on 02/15/2009, -0/+9What do balls have to do with having a younger wife?
- inactive, on 02/15/2009, -3/+12Good man.

- dzneill, on 02/15/2009, -2/+10Heh, lots of things change when they need to. Like getting stop-lossed.
- FireandFlame, on 02/15/2009, -1/+9Col Potter?
- MasterGrief, on 02/15/2009, -3/+9I wouldn't want to do it, but it's great that this guy is getting to do something this extreme at his age.
- CapeKid, on 02/15/2009, -1/+7Hey, it's Dr. Cottle!

- zippy757, on 02/15/2009, -0/+5He has a military retirement. Even read the article? No military retiree ever has lost their retirement.
He's doing it because he cares, not the money which I would expect sucks. - iNoles, on 02/15/2009, -0/+5If it is Potter, Where is Hawkeye when you needed him?
- anksed, on 02/15/2009, -4/+8What a champ
- Valyn, on 02/15/2009, -0/+4All you have to do is spend an hour a day, its a lot easier for someone younger to get in descent shape.
- cnot3, on 02/15/2009, -1/+4Killing fig eaters in Afganistan is more fun than reading books and napping.
- bilbus, on 02/15/2009, -0/+3Good job, true patriot.
- Grazzit, on 02/15/2009, -0/+3That is one crazy ass old bastard, I'd buy him a beer for sure!
- gordigor, on 02/15/2009, -0/+3Note that he volunteered to go. Whether you agree with his choice or not, he did it of his free will. When you grown up you may understand the difference.
- gordigor, on 02/15/2009, -0/+3good for him.
- zippy757, on 02/15/2009, -0/+2we don't NEED to do he, he volunteered. Read the article ?.

- FireandFlame, on 02/15/2009, -0/+2too busy boning a nurse.
- active1x0, on 02/16/2009, -0/+2You cannot enlist as Non-Prior Service after the cutoff age, which I think is 41. The rules are a lot different if you are already in, and are reenlisting into your current unit. My unit has soldiers well into their 60's, and one of them just reenlisted for another 4 years. If you can still pass set physical fitness and health standards, you can stay in if your unit has room.
Besides, this LTC was called up by his superiors as a volunteer. It's not like he went into a recruiting station and said "I'm 74 and I'd like to join the Army please." - Typhoon2009, on 02/15/2009, -3/+5Brave man.
- mason215, on 02/15/2009, -0/+1anywhere*
- Valyn, on 02/15/2009, -0/+1Exactly, seeing as he is not going to be part of raid's and the like, it just means that the 40 yr old guy who would have been at his position will be free to do something more strenuous.
- tvh2k, on 02/15/2009, -1/+2True if your'e a line officer, but they give waivers out like candy if they really need you
- RSterkenburg, on 02/16/2009, -0/+1True, perhaps. Average, HELL NO.

- JackpotCity, on 02/17/2009, -0/+1I have had the pleasure of meeting one or two characters like this in my lifetime, and the stories over beers are always great to hear. Some are funny, some are scary and some are just too gruesome to recount.
What is great is that you get to see things from someone else's perspective and often gain insight into things you normally only see the surface of. - overridemymind, on 02/15/2009, -0/+1Ha! This week's episode of BSG just finished downloading at the exact moment I read that. lol.
- Ymeg, on 02/15/2009, -0/+1A doc is a doc.
