P.S. Anabolic stereoids are not narcotics. - jjason1985, on 05/28/2009, -3/+48No kids, no athletes... So who cares? These are adults who chose to put certain chemicals into their body to improve their appearance. What a waste of law enforcement. Get a ***** life.
Vilifying steroids is even worse than vilifying pot. Too much government.
my $0.02 - joshthegreat200, on 05/28/2009, -2/+46Why is time and resources being used to prosecute these guys? Are they REALLY a danger to society? A two year investigation to crack down on steroid users? How much does a two year investigation cost? Plus the cost of prosecuting them? Millions of dollars?
Its like the our government WANTS to put its citizens in jail.
wtf. - Ymeg, on 05/28/2009, -1/+34Why does the government care if they are using steroids?
- jitterbits, on 05/28/2009, -2/+27"Zoran Yankovich, a spokesman for the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration in Houston, says the investigation began with a complaint of steroid use in local gyms."
Sounds like someone was a bit jealous that their workout plan wasn't going as well as others. - Indierocka, on 05/28/2009, -1/+23This is total bs. why do we care if they're on steroids and better yet why are we spending money locking them up for taking them. I'm not a drug user or steroid user and wouldn't use them even if they were legal, but what an utter waste of time and resources
- anenokoji, on 05/28/2009, -0/+18Steroids, if used properly are fine and perfectly safe. I think there should be an age limit though, 21+.
- kaelyiesta, on 05/28/2009, -0/+16Government typically has a strong incentive to increase it's control, to govern more.
- DickyT83, on 05/28/2009, -2/+15Who's going ***** over steroids around here?
- RiotHeart, on 05/28/2009, -4/+17I'm sure some of the cops enjoyed handcuffing oily buffed up men
- boredallas, on 05/28/2009, -2/+13You don't get it jackass. They're wasting their time (our money) on this *****. It shouldn't be a part of their job.
- thanatron, on 05/28/2009, -2/+13I wonder how many cops it took..
- endgame, on 05/29/2009, -0/+10"Its like the our government WANTS to put its citizens in jail."
You might be on to something their.... - TheBlargh, on 05/29/2009, -2/+12What about alcohol? I am sure more people on a rages after drinking alcohol than steroid.
- 1moretime, on 05/28/2009, -2/+12not now chief, im in the ***** zo..oh no, it's the cops!
- heynow21, on 05/29/2009, -0/+9These drugs are illegal in large part because of the political clout of pro sports. If these drugs were legal (as they should be), a lot more scandals would emerge due to easier access. It's the same reason the NFL is the prime lobbyist against online poker/gambling, just to preserve the sanctity of their stupid little game.
- anenokoji, on 05/28/2009, -0/+9Actually, they don't.
- Lucas123, on 05/28/2009, -2/+11Wait ... body builders using steroids? I don't believe it.
- inactive, on 05/28/2009, -4/+13This is ***** stupid. Instead to making rehabilitation programs for convicts we have to go around and ***** over decent people. Stupid ***** drug war.
- HurricaneDC, on 05/29/2009, -0/+9Why are steroids illegal? I can understand banning them in competitions, but it's not like steroids make people go ***** insane like PCP does. They just make you ripped and make your balls shrink.
- twiztidsinz, on 05/29/2009, -1/+9I'm for the legalization of pot.. and I see no reason to prohibit steroids.
- freshgrease, on 05/28/2009, -1/+9I knew taking protein and creatine supplements couldn't get them that huge.... :D
- Krakerjax, on 05/28/2009, -4/+12Molocaust, its Houston. You're telling me there's no other crime they could have been solving instead of a deadly steroid ring? I'm sure there was someone teaching evolution somewhere they could have been arresting.
- damack, on 05/28/2009, -1/+9With tax money being spent on arresting people who take steroids or smoke weed you've got to wonder where else money is being wasted.
- jasonstock, on 05/29/2009, -1/+8it doesn't shrink your dick.
It temporarily shrinks your testicles because your body doesn't need to produce testosterone because you are injecting it. - painting, on 05/28/2009, -2/+9took them two years to crack this case?
- slowmode, on 05/29/2009, -0/+7What a waste of tax dollars. While theirs real criminals out there committing actual crimes were arresting these men who are trying to make there bodies big. I dont agree with the use of steroids but I don't believe them men should be arrested for using them!.
- AgeofMastery, on 05/28/2009, -5/+12Funny everyone is so in favor of legalizing pot, (and I am too), but you all go ***** over steroids. What's the difference?
- Traiklin, on 05/29/2009, -1/+7It depends on the misdemeanor but yes, Who was getting hurt by them taking steroids?
They weren't encouraging kids to take them, they weren't forcing anyone there to take it, It's not like a real narcotic where it effects everyone around you, sure if you take to many hit's to the head you are more likely to go into roid rage and kill someone but in general they just shrink your balls and give you *****.
in the two years they did this sting how many murders/rapes/assaults/illegal gun sales happened?
Now if the guys selling the steroids were braking into hospitals/pharmacy's/clinics and stealing them then it was definitely a good bust but if they were getting them the legal way then there isn't much of a crime going on.
Also to add to all this, if Anabolic steroids are so bad, why do pharmacy's continue to make and sell them to people? - boredallas, on 05/29/2009, -0/+6No Dauntless I don't. Let me revise that second sentence...
Their time (our money) is being wasted on this *****. - GawtMilk, on 05/28/2009, -1/+7And microscopes. How many people can you fit inside a single steroid?
- jasonstock, on 05/29/2009, -3/+8I was just correcting your child-like ignorance.
You still have to work out just as hard, if not harder. If your diet and routine aren't in check you won't gain *****. - inactive, on 05/28/2009, -4/+8Has anybody ever had to call the cops when something has been stolen from them, there is no investigation at all. Litterally no investigation whatsoever, theft is basically legalized because the cops don't enforce the laws. Instead they spent billions of dollars telling people what they can put in their bodies.
- Dauntless1, on 05/29/2009, -0/+4I know. Why bother arresting them? Darwin in action.
- inactive, on 05/28/2009, -4/+8More government tyrants trying to tell people what they can put in their bodies. Take a look what the government is not telling you about steroids; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z0LEj8IPHGU
- Swivelstick, on 05/29/2009, -0/+4yep
- coderukus, on 05/29/2009, -1/+5Do yourself a favor and watch the documentary "Bigger, Stronger, Faster" before you jump to conclusions. There are A LOT of myths about steroids (including roid rage) that there is just no real research to back up those claims. While I don't advocate recreational steroid use, I don't think they should be illegal. Most steroid users are your local gym rats. What unfair advantage does that give them? Last I checked there were no competitions in the gym (just overinflated ego's).
- smdyson, on 05/29/2009, -0/+4Easier access?
Steroids are widely used. I would be a high majority of athletes use them. And not just the stereotypical baseball and football players. Basketball, track, golf, hockey, cyclists, etc. Steroids have a lot more purpose than just getting big. Look up a steroid called winstrol. It cuts fat, leans the body, and can improve agility and dexterity. - smemily, on 05/29/2009, -1/+5I agree with the "who cares", but "improve their appearance" is subjective.
- Dauntless1, on 05/29/2009, -0/+4No-one would notice small balls on a Houston man.
/Commence flame war - Dauntless1, on 05/29/2009, -0/+4So we should ban alcohol?
- TexMexRex, on 05/29/2009, -0/+4Steroids are illegal in part because the media sensationalizes any story that sells advertising. Steroids are fine! does not sell newspapers or TV. The public believes what they see, people run for office promising stronger laws to appease the public. There are three parties at work in this circle, the government, the public, and the media. You can't solve the problem by pointing the finger at the next guy in the circle.
- jasonstock, on 05/29/2009, -0/+3I rage on alcohol.
- inactive, on 05/29/2009, -0/+3The media needs to stop blowing this out of proportion. They tried to bury and slander Sly Stallone for taking them and guess what, the public didn't bite and still love him, no one gives a *****.
It's your body, your life, and need it be mentioned too that if you are taking steroids you are already committing yourself to a healthy lifestyle of working out and eating healthy and i'd put these users on a health scale of being in better shape than a person who consumes junk food and burns it off on the treadmill at the gym on his lunch hour. - smdyson, on 05/29/2009, -1/+4I know a ton of people who get very angry while drunk. They are the problem, not steroid users.
- NoDitchDigging, on 05/29/2009, -0/+3Total waste of money. Are they prepared to bust hundreds or thousands of guys in gyms throughout the country. Sorry guys, there isn't enough money in the world to devote to such a futile undertaking. Of course, they are trying to get their name in the news to make it look like they are making an effort to stamp out the big bad steroid users.
- Wiwoz, on 05/29/2009, -0/+3Because private individuals have a right to do whatever they like with their bodies, including put substances in them which may have deleterious effects unless prior contractual arrangements made of their own free will oblige them to do otherwise.
- unradical, on 05/28/2009, -1/+4GET SWOLE
- p8ntslinger676, on 05/29/2009, -0/+2wow, what a waste of our taxpayer money.
and technically speaking steroids only shrink your balls for a week or two, after that they go back to normal size because you body adjusts to the extra testosterone in you body.
the guy in the yellow animal shirt is kind of an inside joke. i lol'ed cus its bad pr. - TimidTurtleTodd, on 05/29/2009, -0/+2excellent link, thank you.
