- Foxprowl, on 06/11/2009, -0/+30But like so many other graduates, he has been unable to find a job.
- GeekNurse, on 06/11/2009, -0/+19At first I read the title as if he got shot while crossing the stage to receive his diploma, but carried on despite the massive blood loss.
- chicagojack, on 06/10/2009, -0/+18Feel good story of the day :)
- murocan, on 06/10/2009, -4/+19Kindgergarten diploma?! We didn't get Nursery diplomas over here in UKland. In fact we don't get diplomas until uni!
- OLTP, on 06/11/2009, -2/+16Black people.
- inactive, on 06/11/2009, -1/+1250 Cent got shot too and just graduated Kindergarten as well!
- TehPherd, on 06/11/2009, -0/+9Was Lee Paige doing another demonstration for schoolkids?
- rado907, on 06/11/2009, -2/+11Haha the kindergarden graduation (with a diploma!) struck me too.
Giving diplomas to 5-6 year old kids is stupid and wrong. - Armstrong3, on 06/11/2009, -4/+12sorry, but I'm not surprised he's a black kid. Minorities in this country need to work together to advance their own. It's sad to see things like his happen over 'turf'. I'm glad he's ok, and hope he grows up to make a difference so kids just like him don't die next time. Good luck little buddy.
- doshindude, on 06/11/2009, -2/+9Kids GRADUATE Kindergarten now? What?
- akaakc, on 06/11/2009, -0/+5What?
- wesleyzero, on 06/11/2009, -1/+6Tupac: The Early Years
- vtnerd, on 06/11/2009, -2/+7So Chicago's unconstitutional laws aren't magically disarming the gangs? Who knew!
Politics aside, I'm glad he survived and I hope he has a long, happy life. - bytor4232fb, on 06/11/2009, -0/+5Kid's got cred now.
- Malik112099, on 06/11/2009, -2/+6Sucks for the kid. Glad he's ok. Who names their son Lawilliam?
- GeekNurse, on 06/11/2009, -0/+3Although I'm happy for him, it is sad at the same time that anyone, especially a 5 year old, should need a walker to attend graduation, as a result of gang violence.
- isunktheship, on 06/11/2009, -0/+3Glad to hear he's doing better, I wish they went more into how the shooting occurred.
- PaulClayberg, on 06/11/2009, -1/+41) Have a gun
2) Pull the trigger.
That's how shooting happens. - trunks13, on 06/11/2009, -0/+2That's a future multi-platinum rapper in the making.
- KelliShaver, on 06/11/2009, -0/+2Yeah, but it's fun for the kids and harmless, so why not? A lot of kindergarten kids go from knowing basically nothing to being fluent readers. Developmentally, it is a big year for them, socially and academically, so if they want to celebrate, go for it. It's not hurting anything. Looking at it as an adult, it seems silly, but it means a lot more to the kids.
- dmalibu, on 06/11/2009, -0/+2I'd like to see where this kid is in another ten to fifteen years. Learning to overcome such odds at so young of an age is going to pay off later in his life. A kindergarten diploma though? I've never heard of such a thing, and it's wrong in a sense. A diploma should be issued at the end of high school to show that you've completed all the neccessary pre requisites to move fowards into a higher degree of education.
Though I must add his suit is pretty bangin', kid's got style. - RC18, on 06/11/2009, -0/+2how are you comparing this 5-year-old to a heavy? i don't see the relation between a huge man with a machine gun and a toddler
- akaakc, on 06/11/2009, -3/+5You'll receive a large amount of diggs, but you'll also receive a large amount of buries. It really is depressing that about half the people that read your comment will bury you based only on the line, "sorry, but I'm not surprised he's a black kid". Your comment shouldn't be taken as racist, as it certainly will be by those that love to cry - RACIST, at the first mention of skin color. I just wanted to say that I agree and that I'm proud of your comment.
- billessig, on 06/11/2009, -5/+7Good for you...
- realmadrid2727, on 06/11/2009, -0/+2I LOL'd.
- Kev8888, on 06/11/2009, -1/+3Graduates *from* Kindergarten. Educational bodies graduate people; people don't graduate educational bodies
- RicardoWilliams, on 06/11/2009, -0/+2This kid is a champion!
- DarkBlueAnt, on 06/11/2009, -0/+1That's the second most badass kid I've heard about this week. The first was the one with the dragon tattoo burned in his arm.
- inactive, on 06/12/2009, -0/+1since when did they have graduation from kindergarten-- is this an inner city youth program to provide incentive for inner city youth children to stay in school?
- sleestakslayer, on 06/11/2009, -1/+2That name is more damaging than the wound.
- jugglingjon, on 06/12/2009, -0/+1His debut rap album will be coming out later this year.
- miggie, on 06/12/2009, -0/+1They do that up North. I'm from the South and moved up North when I was 15. They have kindergarten and junior high graduated.
- mizatt, on 06/11/2009, -4/+5What crawled up your asses? He's just saying it's unusual that a kindergarten class receives a diploma of any kind. I found it unusual as well
- s0nicfreak, on 06/11/2009, -0/+1Link?
- Ishiguro, on 06/11/2009, -1/+2Did you read the kid's name?
- sleestakslayer, on 06/11/2009, -0/+1It was show and tell gun day.
- DarkBlueAnt, on 06/11/2009, -0/+1http://weinterrupt.com/2009/06/five-year-old-boy-l ...
I saw this on Reddit and just naturally assumed it would be on Digg too, since Digg reposts everything cool that was on Reddit an hour ago. - Downwritemad, on 06/11/2009, -2/+3Kindergarten diplomas rank right up there with participation ribbons.
- lazybuoy, on 06/11/2009, -0/+1Where in the article does it say the shooters are black?
- tokyomachina, on 06/11/2009, -0/+0i dont get it, but i lol'd anyway
- blackhole37, on 06/10/2009, -2/+2I've always said that kids are resilient
- inactive, on 06/11/2009, -1/+1Gang is a synonym of black
- AraleNorimaki, on 06/11/2009, -0/+0Oh, yes sir. Bit me right in the buttocks. They said it was a million dollar wound, but the army must keep that money 'cause I still haven't seen a nickel of that million dollars.
- theendhasnoend, on 06/13/2009, -0/+0Clearly this little guy is more educated than the gangsters, now that he has graduated.
- inactive, on 06/12/2009, -1/+1remember: guns dont kill people, dangerous minorities do...
- AraleNorimaki, on 06/11/2009, -0/+0I don't want you to worry about your job while you're away. That's why I'm firing you now.
- sipsyrup, on 06/11/2009, -2/+1How is it wrong to reward them for being good kids and going to school? It sounds like if you ran a school, it would suck balls.
- gnixon70, on 06/11/2009, -2/+1Glad the kid is moving on and advancing to the next grade. He is indeed a resilliant kid and wish him the best of luck through his progression through school and beyond.
I agree with others that have mentioned that giving a diploma for advancing from kindergarten to the first grade is kinda stupid. They have these graduation ceremonies when they graduate grade school, middle school, and a score of other things. I believe that this dilutes the real accomplishments such as graduating high school, or graduating college.
anyway, that's my two cents - AmusedToDeath, on 06/11/2009, -6/+5Sorry about that. Would you like us to find this child for you so you can demand the diploma back until he accomplishes something more significant?
- robbob, on 06/11/2009, -3/+2sad for his position, but receiving a diploma doesn't make this a story.
