- reelskamachine, on 10/05/2009, -2/+173uhh? the 14 year old has not been named... one line down is a picture of her with her name in the caption.
thats some good work there - Tyrghast, on 10/05/2009, -12/+157"2 Teenage Girls Die After Jumping 125ft from Suicide Bridge "
Well it sounds like it worked. Next article please. - R3v0lution, on 10/05/2009, -8/+1352 girls 1 pact
- L0NER, on 10/05/2009, -0/+99Running away is much cooler than suicide.
- coheedcollapse, on 10/05/2009, -14/+75Yeah, I really was thinking "Why is this newsworthy?". Tens of thousands of people commit suicide successfully each year. What makes two teenage girls jumping off of a bridge on purpose any more important than the others?
Also, I'm being a cynical *****, but it sort of pisses me off when people commit suicide. There are millions of others suffering far worse than two white teenagers from England ever will and they don't off themselves.
The amount of selfish self-pity that it must take to off yourself without thinking about all of the people that love and care for you that will be hurt just overwhelms me. - fr1234, on 10/05/2009, -2/+62172ft AND he did a flip.

- Nehemiah7, on 10/05/2009, -1/+55Article forgot to mention they jumped after watching twilight.
- alanocu, on 10/05/2009, -1/+49Erskine Bridge is 125 ft high. The deck of the Golden Gate Bridge is about 250 ft. After a fall from the Golden Gate lasting of only a few single seconds, jumpers hit the water at probably 85 mph, which is often fatal. The few who have survived hit the water going in feet first. One guy survived the jump in 1979, swam to shore, and drove himself to a hospital, but the impact cracked several of his vertebrae. Others who survived the impact died from drowning or hypothermia in the cold water.
- gizram84, on 10/05/2009, -7/+51this is such an avoidable tragedy. clearly these 2 would still be alive if only we banned bridges. please, everyone write to your senators; tell them we want these violent death bridges banned immediately. screw any logical reason for having a bridge. until bridges can stop murdering people, they need to be banned.
- ZhiZaki, on 10/05/2009, -0/+442 girls, 1 impact
- jackalsclaw, on 10/05/2009, -0/+39I was thinking "what do you expect to happen when you build a 'Suicide Bridge' "
- guinpen, on 10/05/2009, -1/+39oh.. OH GOD.. WHAT THE HELL IS THIS!?
- megaton, on 10/05/2009, -0/+30The non-sensationalized version: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/scotland/glasgo ...
- Lefts, on 10/05/2009, -0/+29You'll notice how he lands feet first, the stuff on his legs and feet, and if you're really observant, there's a water jet on the surface of the pool breaking some surface tension.
But holy ***** that is ***** hiiiigh. - myak, on 10/05/2009, -3/+31125 ft is around 40 meters which gives you the speed of around 28 m/s or 100 km/h (~60 mph) upon impact (not counting in air resistance but I majored in physics, we model horses as spheres.. ;) No matter how deep the water is, chances are you wouldn't survive it even jumping with your feet facing water and that's probably not how you plan your next suicide.
- stuffradio, on 10/05/2009, -1/+28It's called modern Journalism.
- inkubusfan, on 10/05/2009, -14/+40not funny.
- ChrisEhl, on 10/05/2009, -1/+26They lived in Scotland.
- coheedcollapse, on 10/05/2009, -0/+24Hitting water at high speeds is seriously like hitting a brick wall if you're not in the right position (and it's like a brick wall anyway when you start pushing it this high). We had a 60 ft jumping quarry near my college that people would get injured at all the time. If you went in correctly, there was very little danger, but idiots would go down flailing or forget to wear shoes and they'd come out bruised and in a lot of pain.
If you forget to completely close your legs, it can even tear your rectum. Terrifying, right? - thetortoise, on 10/05/2009, -2/+25Two mixed up girls who could have gone on to live productive and possibly even happy lives extinguished themselves over issues that seemed dire today but in five years would have been looked back on as meaningless. That's the tragedy and why this isn't a funny or good thing.
- mksmothers, on 10/05/2009, -1/+23Because when you are considering suicide you aren't thinking rationally.
- applyscience, on 10/05/2009, -4/+23Rename the bridge. Problem solved.
- unknamed, on 10/05/2009, -1/+20RECTUM???
***** killed 'em!! - nixCProgrammer, on 10/05/2009, -4/+21Bridges are clearly a danger to society and must be banned.
- coheedcollapse, on 10/05/2009, -6/+23Hey, you can kill yourself if you want to, I'm just saying you're an idiot if you think your bad grades or even something as bad as getting raped is worth ending your life when people are literally on the brink of death and trying their hardest to live elsewhere in the world. Yes, it is selfish.
If you're dying of cancer and you are going to have a horrible and painful remainder of your life anyway, that's fine, if you have a debilitating illness and will not be able to live your life in any normal fashion and just want to end it, I can understand that, but if you want to kill yourself because you're some angst-ridden suburban kid, you are an idiot. I'm not saying what you're doing should be completely illegal or you shouldn't be able to do it, but there is absolutely NOTHING that can stop me from calling those people selfish and completely nonsensical, including some rambling idiot who wants to bring up a stupid anti-abortion agenda even though in this situation it makes absolutely no sense. - staticfire, on 10/05/2009, -0/+15Thanks, I ***** hate the daily mail
- mksmothers, on 10/05/2009, -0/+15Mental illness is a bitch.
- Mike17102, on 10/05/2009, -5/+19Because women are herd animals.
- TommyBoy919, on 10/05/2009, -4/+18Well, congratulations on finally succeeding at something.

Seriously though, that's pretty damn sad. At 125ft high you'd be going about 60mph when you hit. From that height it's pretty much like hitting concrete. Even if the fall didn't kill you, you'd likely be so disoriented that you'd drown. - Kossic, on 10/05/2009, -1/+14still - give your kids a hug tonight.
- Mike17102, on 10/05/2009, -1/+14Because kids are stupid.
- mksmothers, on 10/05/2009, -2/+15Its not stupidity, its mental illness.
- coheedcollapse, on 10/05/2009, -1/+13One of them lived in England. I missed the fact that the other was from Scotland and just assumed that they were both from England due to the Daily mail being British. Thanks for the correction though.
- steech, on 10/05/2009, -0/+12They really need to rename that bridge. They should call it the "Don't do Drugs Bridge" or how about the "Eat More Vegetables Bridge"?
- adokimus, on 10/05/2009, -0/+12+1 on the water jet helping to break some of the surface tension of the water, but yeah, that takes balls of steel
- ole1kanobe, on 10/05/2009, -0/+12Pretty sad state of affairs when it makes more sense to kill yourself than to get some help.
- daeus, on 10/05/2009, -1/+13Lost in new york, with your dads credit card and a talkman.
- brodie7838, on 10/05/2009, -0/+11What's wrong with the Little Mermaid?
- SpruceCaboose, on 10/05/2009, -0/+11Jasmine > Ariel.
- hangglide, on 10/05/2009, -0/+11Where in the bible does god say that?
- PhillyOC, on 10/05/2009, -0/+10I used to jump off a 60 ft. cliff into a quarry in Neshaminy, PA back in the day. The first time I did it I thought I was going to die.
In fact, I found a pic of White Rock that we used to jump from. its down on the left marked "abandoned quarry".
http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://www. ... - MrBrotato, on 10/05/2009, -0/+10Because you believe there are no options.
-Speaking from experience. - Rudegar, on 10/05/2009, -0/+10or you two teen chicks should make out not jump?
- Hetman, on 10/05/2009, -0/+10I do kind of wonder how often this happens. Two teenage girls in my home town committed suicide together by wakling in front of a train. The whole suicide pack thing seems to be more prevalant in females.
- inactive, on 10/05/2009, -2/+11i have a cat
- algaeturd, on 10/05/2009, -5/+14The fact that you said that about a 15-year-old girl coupled with the fact that your name is 'gentlebeast' is really creepy as *****.
I know...I know...diggers don't think age is important when lusting after a girl because it's all fiction to you guys anyway. You might as well be lusting after The Little Mermaid when you think a girl is 'hot.' - dsenman, on 10/05/2009, -0/+9Hormones.... it doesn't have to make sense.
- onederboy, on 10/05/2009, -0/+9I started reading the article, and wondered if there would be pictures after the jump.
