- unfromcool, on 11/10/2009, -8/+380Pssh, without a college degree he's not going to get anywhere in life. $8.55 million? That won't last very long. I've got a college degree and I'm unemployed and live at home, and see...hmm...the point is...damnit.
- ileftfark, on 11/10/2009, -1/+316I guess you could say ...
*sunglasses*
This kid played his cards right. - damnshoes, on 11/10/2009, -4/+278I actually won money from a lotto. I won $188.
So, I kinda know how he feels. - trapper2530, on 11/10/2009, -10/+240wow thanks for ruining watching the final table for me now
- clarient, on 11/10/2009, -3/+166YYYYYYYYYEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!
- Taiyoryu, on 11/10/2009, -6/+148$8.55 million minus 35% in taxes = $5,557,500
At a measly 2% savings rate (could be more or less depending on your investment vehicle---savings accounts, bonds, CDs, etc.), you would earn $111,150 in taxable interest at around 28%. (Actually isn't capital gains lower? That's why the rich get richer.)
That leaves you with approximately $80,000. If you're smart, you'll put back as much as you can into the principle, but let's leave $50,000 behind for an after-tax paycheck which is a comfortable middle class income for doing NO work and having no dependents. Take a portion of that $50,000 and put it into a retirement fund with an aggressive diversified portfolio and by the time you retire, you actually have more money than you started.
Given the history of most young instant winners, I expect a follow up story that states he wasted it all. - Nemonyx, on 11/10/2009, -1/+112You should bet your husband that you can predict the winner.
- franick, on 11/10/2009, -2/+103Welcome to America.
- imafish2002, on 11/10/2009, -4/+100Son of a....
- CaliforniaEagle, on 11/10/2009, -2/+84Good for him! That is awesome!
- darkstar107, on 11/10/2009, -4/+83If only I could have just one of those stacks of bills...
- xyllar, on 11/10/2009, -1/+79Don't worry. I know tons of people who skipped college and DIDN'T win the World Series of Poker. I don't think this guy represents a very large demographic.
- dataloss, on 11/10/2009, -5/+76Damnit, anderzole . Put that ***** behind a spoiler tag. I wanted to enjoy the final table, and not know who one. And you ***** PUT IT RIGHT IN THE DAMNED HEADLINE.
Thanks, *****. - J0hnnyBlaze, on 11/10/2009, -11/+81THANKS FOR THE ***** SPOILER. BURIED
- dwats32, on 11/11/2009, -0/+61or just you know blow it all on hookers and blow

- diemunkiesdie, on 11/10/2009, -1/+44And you blew it all didn't you? That's typical for people who win big money.
- elliotys, on 11/10/2009, -11/+52Good for him, but now he's just an uneducated millionaire.
- scarlettletter, on 11/10/2009, -4/+44My degree just feels that much more insignificant now!
- KJSatz, on 11/10/2009, -0/+40Well your first problem is that you are sitting on your laptop instead of using it for its intended use, gambling on the Internet.
- capheine, on 11/10/2009, -14/+53More proof that, in this day and age, any retard can win the WSOP.
And buried for not giving us a spoiler alert. I watch the final table every year and you just ***** ruined it for me. - CrazedLeper, on 11/10/2009, -2/+40Well, don't work for it or anything.
- ralphthemagi, on 11/10/2009, -2/+36I don't really see how skipping school has anything to do with him winning.
If I won $8.5mm, the first thing I'd do is go back to school. - mexicutioner124, on 11/10/2009, -7/+41I'm sitting here on my laptop in a college dorm, and my life just feels infinitely more unfair.
- slicksingh2k, on 11/10/2009, -1/+32hahahaha
- Spirods, on 11/10/2009, -1/+30god dam it this should come with a spoiler alert!
- mellowasroma, on 11/10/2009, -2/+29Lets all quit college and play poker.
- Batfishy, on 11/10/2009, -0/+27lol I have to keep this news from my husband. He's got the final table recording set up for tonight.
- detroitplaya, on 11/10/2009, -1/+27lolumad?
- dylbrwn2, on 11/10/2009, -0/+24***** ruined it for me too. I just glanced at the first page and FfFFFFUUUUUU---.
I was rooting for Ivey. - rglarson13, on 11/10/2009, -0/+24A lot of mall employees are college drop outs.
- RutgerB, on 11/10/2009, -1/+25Yeah, you 2 should start a club or something:) I envy both of you!
- elliotys, on 11/10/2009, -2/+24Best reply ever.
- Daxx22, on 11/10/2009, -3/+25Yes, because there are laws prohibiting you from starting college once your older than 21....
- kamakazitp, on 11/10/2009, -1/+22but not a lot of college dropouts are billionaires.
- frepnog, on 11/10/2009, -1/+20what would the point of going back to school be at this point? if i suddenly had 8 million bucks, the LAST thing I would worry about was school.
/two chicks at the same time. If i had 8 mill, i think i could hook that up. - driverdave, on 11/10/2009, -1/+19i really, really hate digg right now.
- rblancarte, on 11/10/2009, -1/+19MARK THIS AS SPOILER DOUCHE!!!!
- CrazedLeper, on 11/10/2009, -0/+17...just *another* uneducated millionaire.
- FurnaceDragon, on 11/10/2009, -0/+16http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GeeyWvo1rNg
Yeaaaaaaaaah! - frepnog, on 11/10/2009, -1/+17AAAAAAND... IT'S GONE!
- Dr3w, on 11/11/2009, -1/+17Once again, the conservative, sandwich-heavy portfolio pays off for the hungry investor!
- acknotSW, on 11/10/2009, -0/+15Why are people up in arms over anyone’s legal hobbies or activities?
- fxu1989, on 11/10/2009, -4/+19I knew a guy who knew a guy who knew a guy who knew me.
- immatellyouwhat, on 11/10/2009, -1/+16That would make too much sense.
- Black2TheFuture, on 11/10/2009, -2/+15ruined it for me, too.
- Black2TheFuture, on 11/10/2009, -0/+13umm...obviously you don't play poker. First, it was Chris Moneymaker who started the trend. Second, while luck is involved, it takes a tremendous amount of skill and stamina to win the WSOP.
- orangefly, on 11/10/2009, -0/+13i think he is insinuating that a toddler with a wandering eye has more of a chance than a woman....
- jeffwmartin, on 11/10/2009, -0/+13Yea, I can see how a movie about a college kid (who finishes college, by the way) who counts cards and wins a bunch of money playing blackjack while wearing disguises is just like a kid who drops out of college to play in the most respected card tournament in the world wins a bunch of money playing poker on national television.
- krc1, on 11/11/2009, -0/+13Joe Cada started playing online when he was 17, in casinos when he was 18. He purchased his first house when he was 19, in an all cash transaction. He has bankroll management well in hand.
