- ZombieSociety, on 05/12/2009, -1/+159Fact: Charles Manson took Scientology courses and decided it was "too crazy."
THINK about that. - YorickBrown, on 05/12/2009, -3/+157One of my best friends dad abandoned their family for this cult after being brainwashed by their books. His dad had to start buying dozens of their books (I don't know if that was supposed to be their "bible" or what) and lost so much money on it. He sold so much of their things until he finally just left one day to live in one of their Florida churches. Its a sad thing seeing people completely brainwashed by something they believe is a "religion".
No matter your opinion on religion, something that people go to for hope shouldn't have to destroy a family, both structurally and financially.
Edit: I don't want to look like I'm ranting on with some sob story, this is a sad thing that happens to too many good, normal people, and I want people to see this. - pookydirt, on 05/11/2009, -5/+140Good exposé... thanks! It's a dangerous cult... and I knew very few of these stories.

- MrScotchBoy, on 05/11/2009, -6/+111it's amazing what a ridiculous group Scientology is!
- goodinohio, on 05/12/2009, -1/+102"In addition to violating and abusing its own members civil rights, the organization over the years with its "Fair Game" doctrine has harassed and abused those persons not in the Church whom it perceives as enemies. The organization clearly is schizophrenic and paranoid, and this bizarre combination seems to be a reflection of its founder LRH. The evidence portrays a man who has been virtually a pathological liar when it comes to his history, background and achievements. The writings and documents in evidence additionally reflect his egoism, greed, avarice, lust for power, and vindictiveness and aggressiveness against persons perceived by him to be disloyal or hostile."

***** SCIENTOLOGY! - Xazos, on 05/11/2009, -17/+98Now everyone can see what harm religion and cults can do.
- SkinnerBox, on 05/12/2009, -5/+74Anonymous: Weren't you guys going to take care of this?
- maeon3, on 05/12/2009, -2/+69Can you do any of the following things? Every little bit helps:
1. Boycott Movies that Tom Cruise plays a role in. Same with the movies starring John Travolta.
2. Sign the numerous online petitions to get Scientology's tax exempt status removed.
3. Purchase a bumper sticker exposing the cult's body count. Place it on a hard to remove place on the front door of Scientology. Put them on telephone polls near the center. If your bold, on a scientologist's car.
4. Write your local representative about the evils of Scientology, and ask them to do something.
5. Make friends with a Christian pastor (bear with me) and tell him your concerned about the spread of Scientology, if you present the case well enough, he will likely give a sermon on the evils of Scientology. Spreading the message further than the internet can reach.
6. If you know someone pursuing Scientology, reach out to them with love, don't criticize or talk down, be their friend at all costs, educate yourself on helping them find a cheaper and better alternative to the Scientology Classes.
7. Educate your friends, brothers, sisters, parents, sons daughters about the real and present dangers of these mind control cults. It may save their life one day.
8. Blog it, Twitter it, Digg it, Slashdot it, Reddit it, post it everywhere, publish yet another website. The links get anti-Scientology websites high on Google.
9. Donate $20 to the charities who work to help undo the damage done to people by Scientology.
10. Start a Forum thread on the dangers of Scientology. Ask yahoo Questions about how to stop Scientology.
11. Put Vasaline on your hands and accidentally wipe them off on Scientology doorknobs.
Put on your thinking caps, if we all work together Scientology is toast. - Vektuz, on 05/12/2009, -2/+58I like how that one lists the person having committed suicide by shooting themselves in the chest three times and then once in the head. That's not suspicious at all, no sir.

- Karvastor, on 05/12/2009, -3/+56I wouldn't even call them a Church, seriously.
- Ellipsys, on 05/12/2009, -2/+54Did you click on this story, knowing that Scientology was a scam, dangerous, and so forth? If so, they did. Regardless of what anyone wants to admit, before the Legion, everyone though Scientology was the same kind of exploitative-but-harmless fad that celebrities always seem to follow. Thanks to Anonymous, regular people are now aware that it is far more dangerous, stupid, and crazy than they expected it to be.
- YourMomsAnAnon, on 05/12/2009, -1/+42"You guys?"
I am Anonymous. You can be too.
It doesn't take all that much to stand up and do something yourself. You don't need to be a protestfag to get ***** done, either.
Check out some sites and see how you can stop being a lazy ***** and have some fun.

And to say nothing's been done to ruin the cult is ridiculous. They are hemorrhaging money, their secret "religious" documents have been leaked for people to download for free, media is losing its fear of speaking openly about it and millions of people have been informed and inoculated.
What the ***** have you done to help "take care of this"? - inactive, on 05/12/2009, -2/+43If you google 'anonymous' three times, they will appear!

- maz2331, on 05/12/2009, -1/+31Regarding Issac Hayes with South Park:
His reaction to the episode that was critical of Scientology makes him the worst type of religious hyprocrite. It doesn't mean that he is a bad person, but it is what the evidence says that it is.
The reason is that he could be part of "dishing it out" but couldn't "take it" when HIS religion was the one skewered. When that happened, he went off the rails and quit in protest.
I still like the man and love his music, but he was totally wrong to be part of the attack on other religions while being offended when his was the one attacked.
What goes around may come around, and only hypocrites are hit in the head when it does. - inactive, on 05/11/2009, -8/+38Why isn't this popular yet? Is Digg afraid?
- Zomgondo, on 05/12/2009, -4/+32HAIL XENU!
- JoeyNine, on 05/12/2009, -7/+35Yes, all religions ***** up big time. But, no religion has an entrance charge and take possession of all your goods, even if you decide to leave said religion. Let's quit with the equivalency ***** for once and call the CoS for what it is, pure ***** perpetrated by a Sci-Fi writer with a small dick complex.
- 7thguardian, on 05/12/2009, -2/+29FTA:
Sources who later left the organization have stated that Quentin was "an embarrassment" to Hubbard. In fact, upon hearing of his son's apparent suicide, Hubbard's only expressed concern was over the publicity problems the event was sure to cause.
Wikipedia: Quentin Hubbard
Former Scientologists have said that Quentin was homosexual[1][2][3], and that this clearly caused him a great deal of personal torment due to the homophobia of the era. Scientology doctrine classified homosexuals as "sexual pervert[s]" and "quite ill physically."[4] Another source close to him claims that his alleged homosexuality was an act to avoid relationships that his father might not approve.[5] Quentin is described as having had a gentle demeanor, with none of his father's charisma.[1][2]
Also, Jett Travolta needs to be added to that list. - mithrasinvictus, on 05/12/2009, -0/+27Scientology is not a religion, it is a scam.
- inactive, on 05/12/2009, -7/+34*spits*
- Relyt22, on 05/12/2009, -3/+29It appears that the Office of Special Affairs (OSA) has been given a task on this article to distract the subject of Scientology with "Catholicism". It's kind of pointless, imo, to compare a fake religion with a real one.
The point of an exposé is to expose it before it gets too out of hand. People have been trying to do this for decades, but because of the "church's" extreme attacking and harassing of critics (including defamation and smear campaigns), any notable exposes are suppressed and forgotten about. However, now the internet has become an important portal for this kind of information. And it's pretty hard to censor the internet. - h8f8kes, on 05/12/2009, -0/+26Proof that blind faith in anything can be dangerous, whether it be religion, groups or political organizations.
- ANonHubbard, on 05/12/2009, -2/+26You have no idea why the internet in general is so against Scientology because you haven't read anything about how the two interact.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scientology_and_the_I ...
Summary: Internet = Freedom; Scientology = exact opposite - XenoSNK, on 05/12/2009, -3/+25Don't forget Vince Offer.
- inactive, on 05/12/2009, -0/+21They did. Scientology's credibility is in tatters.
- Frankyfan3, on 05/12/2009, -7/+28You mean "everyone" ?
- morgens2, on 05/12/2009, -9/+29For the record, this is not a religion, it is strictly a cult. I understand people's hesitance towards religion around here, and I have my fair share of it too, but don't try to lump all religion in with this crazy cult. Religion doesn't bully people into destroying themselves.
- Relyt22, on 05/12/2009, -4/+23The difference lies in the fact that these are victims of an organization advertised to them as self-help, and cloaked by a religious label, so they can use it to cry "suppression" whenever someone questions their actions.
While something like Christianity IS a religion, and is old enough to be executed in so many different ways, that the core religion is usually not to blame when it comes to the actions of individuals. - goodinohio, on 05/12/2009, -0/+19Charles Manson video proof.

Proof of a lot more!
http://www.youtube.com/user/XenuTravolta - Jamiekin, on 05/12/2009, -0/+19What ever happened to whyaretheydead.net ? That used to be the main place keeping count on Scientology related deaths, and there certainly were more than 16 victims. A *LOT* more. From scientologists dying in strange circumstances in other countries, to other scientology related deaths due to not taking proper schizophrenia/psychiatric related medicine.
- morgens2, on 05/12/2009, -9/+27I consider myself a theist at best, formerly a die hard Christian, but even when I was a die hard Christian I never viewed Islam, Buddhism, Hinduism, etc. as a cult. I viewed them as religions. In fact I can't think of any major religion that views another religion with a different set of beliefs than them as a cult, except if--and here's the kicker--they are a cult.
What you mention are radical beliefs of religion, which by definition are a cult. The difference being that the core beliefs of Christianity, Islam, Hinduism, etc. remain the same--messages of love, hope, etc. while radicals bend them to fit their views, causing people all over the internet to cry foul against all religion in general. Religion itself is not harmful, except when used for selfish purposes.
This internet-wide, dare i say, "crusade" against religion has gotten stale. Yes, people need to fight against fundamentalism in all it's forms, I personally can't stand it either. Keep in mind, stories about churches feeding the hungry and clothing the naked aren't as sensational as radicals flying planes into a building or idiots trying to get creationism into our schools, so they don't get as much press. - anawnymoose, on 05/12/2009, -0/+18"Somebody some day will say 'this is illegal.' By then be sure the orgs [Scientology organizations] say what is legal or not."
--L. Ron Hubbard, HCO Policy Letter 4 January 1966 - seanstuart, on 05/12/2009, -0/+17Classic cult construct.
Isolate members from their families and friends.
Teach them to hate the outside world as a threat.
Banish dissent.
Require the surrendering of wealth to the leaders.
I find the CoS fascinating for its success. Their beliefs are completely ludicrous (quite literally bad science fiction), and yet they have so many members, power, and a crazy amount of wealth. - itsunlmtd, on 05/12/2009, -0/+17They believe they are full of the souls of space aliens murdered 75 million years ago and to achieve spiritual benefits they must pay to have them removed. This costs $400 per hour. Wait, what?
Let's not even mention Xenu -___- - ANonHubbard, on 05/12/2009, -3/+19Probably because this isn't an "all religion" digg but Scientology specifically.
People viewing a Scientology thread would like to read about about this particular cult and not watch an internet philosopher derail everything. - icegoddess13, on 05/12/2009, -13/+29Well, to it's credit Christianity has killed many more.
That said....
All religions are a cult, some are good, some are bad, this is the worst kind.
It was a joke! Really, A JOKE! Created by Hubbard and other colleagues, and people take it seriously. People whom I would otherwise consider intelligent.......Will Smith....man why? - alpha88, on 05/12/2009, -0/+16Hubbard didn't create it as a joke, he created it as a screenplay, that was rejected by the studios he submitted the idea to. But he needed SOME way to make money, so he changed it to a religion.
- ANonHubbard, on 05/12/2009, -5/+21Then digg a Catholicism story and comment on that.
- Toenail37, on 05/12/2009, -0/+16CoS does have a track record of legal litigation against its detractors.
- mithrasinvictus, on 05/12/2009, -0/+15The church thing is just a tax evasion trick that didn't work very well until they blackmailed IRS officials.
- Jamiekin, on 05/12/2009, -0/+15Ok, did some searching and at least there's an archive of it here.
