- AWBoy666, on 10/12/2007, -7/+461For the record, this guy actually GOT AWAY. This was a big issue a few years ago because FOX edited it to make it look like they didn't get away. They actually arrested him a few days later at his home. Note how the "breakdown" footage at 3:42 is exactly the same as when he tries to stop at 2:09?
The BMW got away. BMW FTMFW. - Schug, on 10/12/2007, -3/+288I hate how just because he's a teen they say "He's running like he's trying to get the high score on a video game."
If it was a 30 year old man, would they say, "He's running like he's trying to avoid paying alimony." - Rigbymatt, on 10/12/2007, -12/+210i dispise this show, its complete propaganda, the hosts voice drives me up the wall, damn you Fox
- starrd, on 10/12/2007, -43/+194Don't be an ass and think this is cool. The officers were not fools, they could have tapped the bmw at any time to push it off the road but were trying not to kill the ass. The next time you think something like this is cool, go down to your nearest ER and look at a trauma victim. Especially the ones who were not driving stupidly.
Jerk. - Yashar, on 10/12/2007, -6/+119Also, I would like to point out that the clip at the end was actually from the beginning of the chase. The kid actually got away and foolishly drove home. The police found him in his house soon after.
- anglachel, on 10/12/2007, -10/+113most things aren't pro-police.
People break laws, cops pull them over. honestly, if you are a cop your not going to get alot of love from the public unless you single handedly disarm a terrorist cell that is out to kill puppys and blow up candy factories. Even then some one is going to say that they weren't reall terrorist, their parents just never loved them.
unfortunatly it takes a lot to be a hero, and it only takes pulling some one over once for 35 in a 30 to be a douche. - DesertSquirrel, on 10/12/2007, -39/+141Yet another reason why kids should not be allowed to play Gran Turismo.
- bagelpirate, on 10/12/2007, -16/+114Owned.
- detrate, on 10/12/2007, -6/+104He _DID_ outrun the police, they just ~say~ he didn't... did you actually SEE them catch him? ;)
- Tricky, on 10/12/2007, -18/+113I might not have dugg you down if you had said "That driver should be shot in THE ***** head"
- Renegade.eit, on 10/12/2007, -10/+105this kid got some major kudos off that
- dbre2, on 10/12/2007, -6/+100Wonder whose job it was to write the commentary for the chase...
e30 M3 does not have 240 horsepower...it's closer to 200 (e36 has 240)
e30 M3 is NOT supercharged (nor is any M3).
Pretty sure the 0-60 (5.7) is for an e36 as well...and while it is possible that that particular M3 COULD be supercharged and COULD have 240 HP, i doubt that they would include all that information with the video that they sent to Cops.
Looks like a video of a 15 year old in a 16+ year old 4-cyl 200 HP car pwning a cop in a new 350 HP camaro - Nathan07, on 10/12/2007, -4/+95I like that they claim this kid is inexperienced... That was his father's BMW that he had been racing on the track for several years... The car did NOT break down, they caught him later at his house. And if the Carmaro could smoke it, and had better brakes, why was it that is was always so far behind and nearly hit the M3 when it slammed on the brakes?
- ralyxx, on 10/12/2007, -4/+91I hate how they keep calling the kid inexperienced. Just because he's 15 does not mean he wasn't driving since he was 11. And moves like that are pretty impressive.
- kamikazecow, on 10/12/2007, -0/+84"This kid was driving like he was going for a high score in a video game..." So they do help in real life...? lol
- Yashar, on 10/12/2007, -4/+84compare 2:08 to 3:41, they edited the clip to make it look like the law won
- theblooms, on 10/12/2007, -9/+87You mean B4C, not B4Z. Anyway, anyone could order a cop Camaro, you just had to know which RPO Option code to select, and wait for it to get built. But 99% of people just buy what's on the lot already, so that's why you hardly ever see new cop Camaros in private hands. The 1LE Camaro was actually even faster than the B4C.
And YES, they will smoke an M3 all the way around, acceleration, top speed, breaking and cornering. These Camaros AREN'T your garden variety Z28's. Not by a long shot.
By the way, Z28 was nothing more than a "hidden" Camaro RPO code (just like the 1LE and B4C) from 1967 that took on a life of it's own after people found out what it was. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -7/+81If a cop tapped a car at "125 MPG" it probably wouldn't do much damage because I doubt they get that kind of gas mileage at high speeds.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -27/+96Ya the anti-cop ***** on digg is amazing. If the cops had used the PIT and caused the kid to crash into the wall everyone would be crying about how "they shouldnt do that to just a kid".
- leobaby, on 10/12/2007, -41/+104Digg me down, but you know if that driver (or any careless driver) would have hit you then for years you would be cursing his name.
- leobaby, on 10/12/2007, -17/+79I was at a complete stop when I was hit by a driver going 70mph. I have permenant injuries, he got a citation.
- carcus, on 10/12/2007, -1/+60Here is the story from the paper they didn't find him at his house:
By TIM HRENCHIR
The Capital-Journal
A Chicago teenager in a stolen BMW led Shawnee County sheriff's deputies on a chase of more than 25 miles at speeds of up to 125 mph Wednesday morning before fleeing on foot and being caught near Paxico in Wabaunsee County, authorities said.
Albert Ciesla, 15, was arrested and detained in the Shawnee County Youth Center in connection with numerous criminal counts including felony auto theft, said Shawnee County Sheriff Dave Meneley.
Meneley gave this account of the chase:
Deputy Wally Long of the sheriff's department's Criminal Interdiction Unit, driving a marked sheriff's car, tried to stop a black BMW for a traffic violation about 9:30 a.m. Wednesday on Interstate 70 in the downtown Topeka area.
The driver instead sped up to about 125 mph and went west on I-70 into Wabaunsee County, weaving through traffic and often entering the highway shoulder to pass vehicles. The Kansas Highway Patrol and Wabaunsee County Sheriff's deputies joined the chase.
Just west of Paxico, the driver made a U-turn in the grass median, started back east on I-70, left the highway at a county road exit, then quickly got back on I-70 going east in a westbound lane.
The driver allegedly swerved toward Long, who was westbound in the lane, forcing him to enter the median to avoid a collision. The patrol car sustained minor damage.
The fleeing car soon afterward left I-70, went south on a dead-end county road, entered a field and struck a fence before stopping. The driver fled on foot.
A Topeka police helicopter was brought to the area to help search for the driver. Ciesla was found in a brushy ravine about a quarter mile from the car, which officers learned had been reported stolen in Chicago.
Law officers initially thought another person might have been in the car and escaped, but then concluded Ciesla had been the BMW's sole occupant. Copyright 1997 The Topeka Capital-Journal - mc7winkie, on 10/12/2007, -9/+65@ theblooms
I don't know what you said, but I dugg you up because you know a ***** load about cars. - leobaby, on 10/12/2007, -1/+57They also added a lot of sound effects - tires screeching, etc...
- SwabTheDeck, on 10/12/2007, -3/+57I like how they go on about how the Camaro has so much more horsepower than the M3, but soon realize that Camaros handle like ***** and can't deal with the high speeds nearly as well. I guess you can't really beat the horsepower per dollar ratio of the Camaro, though.
- -Jaguar-, on 10/12/2007, -3/+56I'd have to believe the normal cop cars couldn't catch him to tap him. The cop driving the Corvette seemed like didn't want to mess his nice car up, which is why he overreacted when the kid acted like he was going to swerve. "DON'T SCRATCH MY LT1 WITH 350 HORSE POWER!"
- comrademikhail, on 10/12/2007, -2/+41I love how they keep underplaying the kid, and then relate it to a video game.
"This unexperienced kid..." "Like keeping a high score in a video game..."
It's so lame. You could tell the kid was obviously an experienced driver, even if you didn't know that he had been racing on track for a few years. And must the blame every unresponsible act on a video game?? That's the kinda thing that gives Mr. Thompson the state of mind he has.. "Teenager that knows how to drive really fast running from the cops?!?! Must be a VIDEO GAME!!" - netburnr, on 10/12/2007, -1/+37The B4Z camaro (aka police edition) actually has upgraded brakes, springs, shocks, and sway bars. It handles the best of all the production Camaros. That said, I dont think a 4th gen Camaro could outhandle a M series beemer, but it could definitly out run it.
The officer in the normal patrol car was very very lucky he didn't get tapped by the Camaro as he came across the highway, at those speeds, he would most likely have flipped. - plamoni, on 10/12/2007, -8/+42@Leobaby
A while back around here the cops engaged in a high speed chase with a car that had run off without paying for gas. They finally boxed him in and _did_ shoot the guy in the head and they killed him. Only later did they discover that the guy was mentally slow and probably didn't have a real good idea of what was going on... - ElegantFiend, on 10/12/2007, -2/+34For NASCAR? or for taking cars on joyrides?
- Xoligy, on 10/12/2007, -5/+36The reason why people are anti police is because they lie in their videos instead of admitting defeat. I was going to bury this until I read that they faked the catching.
- Phocion55, on 10/12/2007, -2/+32 "Numerous lane change violations." hahaha
- surfit, on 10/12/2007, -4/+33Got to say this sort of programming is exploitative. For example they have some annoying commentator hyping up the scene, whilst they've added all sorts of over-the-top sound effects to make it more dramatic. I hope the profits they are making from showing this sort of low cost programming ends up funding anti-crime initiatives.
- toast4321, on 10/12/2007, -3/+32at speeds like that aren't the police supposed to break off? to you know..ease the situation.
- Lososaurus, on 10/12/2007, -1/+30Aren't they one and the same?
- Niffer, on 10/12/2007, -1/+28I love it! "This inexperienced driver acts like he's going for the high score in a videogame..." So what does this make the cops exactly? Sub-inexperienced? Un-inexperienced? Looks like he owned em to me.
I know he didn't have any "experience" because he was so young, but they use it as if inexperienced means "no skill." I hope they learned their lesson. - shinynew, on 10/12/2007, -3/+28about the breaks thing, there is something call reaction time, the kid is always going to know when he is going to slam on the breaks before the cops.
- mabhatter, on 10/12/2007, -1/+25exactly why people are anti police! They didn't NEED to lie in the video, just take a news camera, show them looking up the plate number and driveing to his house.. the motto being that no matter if you get away or not, they'll still find you... much more effective than trying to be macho.
- betterth, on 10/12/2007, -6/+30@jimthetaff
"your a ***** idiot, anyone that thinks a piece of American ***** could ever come close to matching the genius and refinement of European design is a ***** retard."
You sir are a ***** idiot. Check out consumer reports, car and driver etc etc. I'm no fan of American cars -- my love lies with the Japanese auto makers (Z series ftw ^_^) but if you think German engineering is "genius and refinement" than you need a swift kick to the balls. VW's are rated over and over to be some of the worst cars on the road. My friend's Jetta with 27k on it just lost a cat converter and a 2 backlights in the dash. That may not seem like much but that should not be happening at sub two years old.
BMW does make a decent car, and I would hazard a guess and say that they're the only German engineers who make decent cars. Mercedes certainly isn't anymore. - kikibun, on 10/12/2007, -11/+35Well, whatever you think of the kid, he must have some SERIOUS bragging rights at what ever school he goes to.
- EXreaction, on 10/12/2007, -11/+34Well, I bet our old friend Jack Tompson is getting a huge hard on if he is reading this...
Another law suite for him. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+24Haha, John Bunnell. I hate that ***** guy, he always over exaderates the situations on Worlds Wildest Police Vidoes.
- elroy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+22@dbre2:
Yeah, it's clear they looked up the statistics for the E36 while this kid's driving an E30. The fastest E30 M3 is 225bhp (the evo3, I think it was europe-only). So you're right, this was likely a 200-hp engine. However it has very agressive gearing, an 8,000rpm red line, and it handles like a go-kart. The E30 was bred for racing, but the E36 and later M3's were made for street driving.
My favorite part is when he's weaving the spike strips at 120+ -- hilarious. Cop car handles like a sled.
...and yes, the "break down" is fake -- it's the same footage from when he slammed the brakes and pulled the 180 through the median. - tfizzle, on 10/12/2007, -8/+30I have a huge respect for police officers, but I don't think that justifies lying to the public to make them look better.
I used to watch that show, and whenever they caught a suspect, they would beat him/her with nightsticks for a bit and then stick their knees behind the perp's shoulder blades and beat them some more. There's no way they caught this kid. Whether the camaro keeps up with the BMW, I doubt it did, or else why did it pull away into the red circle? They just got out driven. This "reckless" teen so happens to outdrive the police to the point of one of them almost getting killed because he got outdrove them.
Truthiness lives on! - TheCasablancan, on 10/12/2007, -12/+33Here is why I personally don't like police.

Riot police shooting peaceful protesters for fun, then laughing about it. - PhaseDMA, on 10/12/2007, -11/+31If a cop tapped a car at 125 MPG there would be so many lawsuits it wouldn't be funny, and that's if there was no injury caused.
- Woofcat, on 10/12/2007, -6/+26"Somewhere, ALWAYS has a faster car."
Not if you own a Bugatti Veyron. (sp?) - 2L84ME, on 10/12/2007, -10/+29I got a rush just watching that.
