- phpirate, on 04/05/2009, -3/+100PC gaming has never been dying.
- SirVenro, on 04/05/2009, -4/+74If anyone is going to 'save' PC gaming its going to be Valve continuing to rock what they're doing and Blizzard dropping Starcraft 2 and Diablo 3. That's all the PC gaming I need at least.
- Rapter09, on 04/05/2009, -8/+64FTA: "So while, yes, retail sales of most PC games in plastic boxes may not be in the rudest of health right now, PC gaming as a whole is expanding. Visit Kongregate or Newgrounds..."
I stopped reading.
Seriously; that is ***** insulting as a PC Gamer. - vsujohn2, on 04/05/2009, -3/+43PC gaming is as strong as ever..
Steam is the purveyor of all my gaming needs... - Hellicus, on 04/05/2009, -0/+26Hear hear. I love the Steam Weekend sales :D
- FZero68, on 04/05/2009, -1/+22It sucks when the games are made from the ground up with consoles in mind, consoles are the bottleneck.
- Jhiaxuz, on 04/05/2009, -3/+24The PC platform is fine. It's just all the ***** console ports and ***** titles in general which drag it down from its potential.
- Chainheart2, on 04/05/2009, -0/+20Diablo II, Starcraft 2, Star Wars: The Old Republic.. bright indeed.
- Fabbyfubz, on 04/05/2009, -3/+23The FUTURE looks bright? When was PC gaming ever dark?
- IJS209, on 04/05/2009, -2/+21I can't wait for the next Half-Life. :D
- KJGJ, on 04/05/2009, -1/+18I don't, I've lost WAY to much money on them.
- bob1029, on 04/05/2009, -3/+17PC vs console is not a debate, it is a slaughter. Even so, I would highly recommend that we keep the PC gaming community free from the smacktards that lurk on Xbox Live. Next time someone starts talking trash about how amazing their ps3/xbox looks on their new sony 1080p tv, act very enthusiastic and say things like "wow, i wish my PC looked that good" or "damn that ***** is awesome, my pc blows balls".
Keep it on the DL people. - N0DIGGITY, on 04/05/2009, -0/+14That's a real game...called audiosurf.
- whorunbartertwn, on 04/05/2009, -0/+14Believe it when I see it.
- roflmcwaffles, on 04/05/2009, -0/+14Retail PC games are dying, but Steam is stronger than ever. But the people who do the sales charts never take Steam sales into consideration.
Digital distribution is the way of the future for PC gamers. - Khast, on 04/05/2009, -2/+15It's been the "end of the world" chant for a long time. The console gamers seem to have it in their mind that their (insert current generation system) is going to be the death of PC gaming.
Like the crazy old men on the corner of the street....they all have been wrong. - inactive, on 04/05/2009, -0/+11In the beginning I hated steam, and i still do when it's buggy. But really it's an awesome vehicle to deliver games on. I've bought about 95% of new games off of steam in the last 4 years.
- petard, on 04/05/2009, -2/+13It won't work.
- Davers, on 04/05/2009, -2/+13I doubt that it will change anything, personally. Can you imagine the lag on the controls and the video compression artifacts? Sure some people will use it, but I don't think it'll change what makes PC gaming what it is.
- spiralspirit, on 04/05/2009, -2/+13I don't believe it.
- Senturion, on 04/05/2009, -1/+10As long as Blizzard keeps making games PC (and Mac) gaming will be just fine.
- ThanatosST, on 04/05/2009, -2/+9$2000 PC not being able to handle the latest games? I think you're doing it wrong then.
"Virtual Drive Detected" = Stop pirating games, jackass.
15 minutes installing/ searching for 2 year old CD case: Those 15 minutes installing and the subsequent putting of the CD case into storage means that you don't need to worry about the game's CD until you need to reinstall. So, unlike a console game where if you lose the CD you can't play the game at all. - halo3d, on 04/05/2009, -0/+7absolutely..,
i remember when they reduced the prices for left 4 dead on a weekend.. the sales went up by like 300% or something.. - dreamache, on 04/05/2009, -3/+10I won't switch to a console if i'm stuck having to use their piece of ***** controllers.
- Kanten, on 04/05/2009, -0/+7With Comcast and Time Warner running our connections, do you honestly think this would be successful?
- whorunbartertwn, on 04/05/2009, -0/+7Steam's weekend sales are great. The Unreal Tournament deals they did in March injected a lot more life into the game, with free weekend play and reasonable pricing on the game with new expansion set.
- Gizza, on 04/06/2009, -0/+7If PC gaming was dying (which it isn't) SC2 and D3 would single handily resurrect it.
- bilbohicks, on 04/05/2009, -0/+6Read what he wrote again - he didn't say they "drag down the PC's potential" for rather "from" thereby preventing it reaching its potential.
- tdog138, on 04/05/2009, -2/+8The article discusses how the term PC gaming should be defined, and that depending on what you consider as part of PC gaming, the numbers on its relative health change drastically.
But I agree, including casual gaming which those sites offer does not encompass what PC gaming really means, and are not indicative of its health as a viable platform to produce for. - HommePomme, on 04/05/2009, -0/+6Exactly a midrange computer from 4 years ago can play Crysis at 480p, also the video settings aren't mentioned, AA?, AF?, or are they all on low?
- Hellicus, on 04/05/2009, -2/+8Steam FTW !!!!1
Weekend sales = Insta-Win - chaos7, on 04/06/2009, -0/+6Valve, Blizzard, and Infinity Ward are the best
- LoveAndSeagulls, on 04/05/2009, -2/+8...why is the future of pc gaming even being questioned?
- Hellicus, on 04/05/2009, -0/+6It was a 3000% increment.
Awesome-sauce, isn't it ? - HommePomme, on 04/05/2009, -2/+8Hahaha, what a joke. Install times can be up to 25 minutes on PS3 AND you need the disc. For Xbox install is recommended so that the jet-plane sounding optical drive can be put to rest.
Also, neither of the consoles can hold a candle to the visual fidelity of PC games, EVEN when they are console ports. - Grazzit, on 04/05/2009, -1/+7Just wait, when the media center pc gets set up in the living room you can say bye bye to consoles unless the consoles turn into media centers which they already partly are. Next Gen Consoles just need DVR's
- inactive, on 04/05/2009, -4/+9I would love the games if they will look like this one...
- JDiZZle300Z, on 04/06/2009, -0/+5I've actually been playing a lot of AudioSurf lately and it is one of the most enjoyable games I have. And I play TF2, L4D, and Crysis Wars on the regular, along with almost everything else. With all of it's online functionality ranking you with everyone else and the ability to play any music you have makes it nothing less than superb :)
My mini-review /2cents - helloyo, on 04/05/2009, -0/+5The bit that I don't get is that lower quality 480p visuals don't require much processing power anyway. OnLive is competing against some pretty old computers.
- bob1029, on 04/05/2009, -5/+10Awesome dude. Enjoy your COD and Halo.
Seriously though, the fewer smacktards in my tf2/l4d/etc, the better. - cthornett, on 04/06/2009, -0/+5For those that get to the bottom of this huge comment list and want to see the original article as it looks in the mag, with pixel art and illustrations, it's posted here: http://www.pcformat.co.uk/article/state-gaming-art ...
- OiPunk, on 04/05/2009, -2/+7Way to miss the sarcasm there. Now go stand in the corner and think about what you've done.
- jameskong15, on 04/06/2009, -1/+6"2000$ PC"
Lol, you paid 2k for a pc that can't play the latest games? You got jacked, scrub.
"a virtual drive is detect"
Google it to fix, oh wait, Google says it's a problem with the DRM, so that's a publisher issue, not a PC issue.
"2 years old lost jewel case"
So you trust that your console will keep your items forever and it has unlimited space? Or are you hoping that one day they don't shut down the system and nuke your whole digital download option? Also, don't some games require the CD regardless on consoles?
"tweak the dozen of options"
I thought you were running a 2k pc? If you have to tweak options from default on that, you're doing it wrong. Also, changing options is a one-time thing once it's set, you act like this is some huge task. Are you incompetent or simply a retard?
"graphics kick the *ss of much more expensive PC"
Trying to claim a default console will beat out a top notch custom PC in GFX power is ridiculous. Some PC's have the power of multiple new graphic cards running with each other; cards made years after a console was produced... So far beyond the likes of a current console - your head would explode trying to even comprehend obviously.
Anyway, have fun with your consoles. I think you're an unintelligent consumer though based on your comments, so I'll take your opinion on computer gaming with a grain of salt. - crazyhorse13, on 04/05/2009, -0/+5When I think about the potential that the HL universe has, I get goosebumps.
- whorunbartertwn, on 04/06/2009, -1/+6This post was a stretch two years ago, but today it's just downright daft.
These days for $2000 you can build three gaming PCs and have a LAN party. - N0DIGGITY, on 04/05/2009, -0/+5I have a 1920x1200 monitor. Onlive would never work for me, plus my games run fine at that resolution as it is with a $150 graphics card.
- HommePomme, on 04/05/2009, -2/+6Yeah I hate being forced to upgrade my computer. The gun to my head gets really annoying sometimes. I think I'm going to just going to stick to my Xbox, with no option to upgrade so I can't choose to spend a few bucks every once in a while for some better performance.
- ChildeRoland420, on 04/06/2009, -0/+4But if all these people are spending their time and money playing WoW, then that leaves less for other games to claim and hurts PC game sales overall.
- garlicdeath, on 04/05/2009, -0/+4Computers are hard
