- SurrealDream, on 10/19/2009, -0/+21This game is AMAZING. Though there's a very very frustrating finale, which is a shame because the rest of the game was beautifully paced.
Btw I pre-ordered it direct from their site. It's cheaper than steam, has Mac and Linux versions AND you get the awesome soundtrack included as an MP3 zip file too. - GravyDavy, on 10/19/2009, -0/+13Want.
- crc77, on 10/19/2009, -0/+10Yeah that caught my eye the other day on Steam... Stunning, unique visuals. Less than $20, too - a trip to the movies and a box of popcorn costs more than that these days!
- dawgma, on 10/19/2009, -1/+10It was really great.. and it was over too soon. Just before the game ended, I was actually in the final area and I was thinking about the creepy twist the game seemed to be taking and how the story was finally getting interesting... I was looking forward to a few more hours of playing it when then the game just ended. I was done after two casual play sessions on the weekend... for a total of maybe 6 or 7 hours.
Ultimately the game world felt pretty small... I can picture it all right now in my head, from top to bottom and draw out all the rooms. I really wish there had been more.
But.. beyond that it was still great. Challenging puzzles, amazing artwork, smooth animation, quirky style.. there were 2 or 3 times during the game where i had to consult the answer book.. and the answer would turned out to be some silly solution that you probably wouldn't have thought of anyway. but that shouldn't be enough to ruin the experience. - 2Bnor2B, on 10/19/2009, -0/+8Your profile states your a 28 year-old FELLOW from Boston (US)
Unless your a chick, using the term moist is.....well.....simply wrong. - pixelate, on 10/19/2009, -0/+7You're right, but having said that, I totally agree.
- themastersb, on 10/19/2009, -0/+6Saying "but" there makes it sound like you're about to say that it's not going to happen.
- pustulio, on 10/20/2009, -0/+5These guys were the creators of a really cool click through puzzle game that had a really cool art style called Samorost. You guys should check it out :o
- airstrike, on 10/19/2009, -0/+5incredibly original graphics without any unnecessary resource-hogging eye candy. we need more games like this.
- lightbeats, on 10/19/2009, -0/+5I love these type 2D indie games, world of goo, braid, to name a few recent ones.
It is true that small companies, enterprises, or whatever are the ones that have the innovative ideas, in all aspects of business. It's funny how much effort the larger developers put into creating innovative games when it's always the little guys that create these gems.
World of Goo and this game really are inspiring, you can put them in front of non-gamers and watch them spend hours playing on them. Great stuff. - BubblesTheChimp, on 10/19/2009, -1/+5That's called anal leakage.
- PowderedToasty, on 10/19/2009, -2/+6So moist I'm slipping out of my chair.
- pixelate, on 10/19/2009, -0/+4Waiting for the XBLA version, but fortunately it sounds like it's going to happen:
http://www.gamasutra.com/php-bin/news_index.php?st ... - kaelyiesta, on 10/19/2009, -0/+3Got it on steam, played it, and finished it over the weekend. It's worth buying. The art, music, and integration of the story goal and gameplay is top quality. The puzzles are seamlessly built into the world and they mix up puzzle style to keep things interesting. I especially love how the story came full circle by explaining the events that led to the start of the game. I'd say wait until the price drops below 20 dollars before buying it though. The replay value is minimal and it's probably 10 to 20 hours of gameplay depending on how fast you are at the puzzles.
- malignatius, on 10/19/2009, -0/+3Got it.
- robwhite1979, on 10/19/2009, -0/+3I miss adventure games sometimes... Back when I first got into PCs adventure games ruled the world, now it seems like there is only 2-3 released each year and often they're crap meant only to appeal to a sense of nostalgia. I'll give this one a go, hopefully it will provide a few hours entertainment...
- PowderedToasty, on 10/19/2009, -3/+6As a lover of robots and old school games, that video got me quite moist.
- fuzed, on 10/19/2009, -0/+3A dollar or so per hour of gameplay is well worth it, IMO.
- airstrike, on 10/19/2009, -0/+2yeah, watch where you put your but.
- dawgma, on 10/19/2009, -0/+2keep in mind that i did use the hints and cheat book if i was stuck for more than 10 or 15 min... also, there are mini puzzles within the game that can be challenging... however, i was already familiar with general winning strategies for these games (such as a "connect 5" game and a 3x3 slider puzzle). I found that I finished the mini games relatively quickly. other people might not be as familiar with them and therefore take their time with them.
i found the final mini puzzle really difficult.. and after about half an hour without seemingly making any progress, i looked at the book that told me how to do it.
if you take your time with the game i can see 10 hours. but probably not much more than that. - vptel, on 10/19/2009, -0/+2great, now even robots are getting more action that i am
- tofagerl, on 10/19/2009, -0/+2Taking note of this game for when I actually have time for it.
- Methusalah, on 10/21/2009, -0/+1I can easily get more than enough entertainment from the games I already own. I don't need (not that it's possible to need a game) any more games right now so waiting for a lower price seems to be a financially sound decision.
- dawgma, on 10/19/2009, -0/+1lol.. i just noticed that all of the install files in the Program Files folder are written in binary. The folders have binary descriptions, the file names and even the extensions.
- Gizza, on 10/20/2009, -0/+1Played the demo from Steam and enjoyed it. Haven't bought it yet though as I've got other games I am playing. However, if it were to have a Steam weekend deal or something like that I'd buy it straight away. As it is, it may only be a purchase if I run out of other games to play.
Reminds me a bit of the Neverhood. I loved that game. - Methusalah, on 10/19/2009, -0/+1"for a total of maybe 6 or 7 hours."
That's the information I've been looking for since the game released. After playing through the developer's web-based offerings I had a feeling that this one wouldn't take all that long to beat. The demo was enjoyable, but I'll wait for a sale. - bulgingbritches, on 10/21/2009, -0/+0I've only been able to put in an hour or so here and there, but so far this is just as fun as Samarost. Speaking of which, I would love more Samarost adventures if he can get his dog back from Axel. (hint: Axel & Pixel)
- 13373h4X0r, on 10/19/2009, -1/+1The artwork for this game is beautiful.
That aside, I think any game that requires a hint system or a walk-through guide to be playable is flawed in a significant way. The visuals, music, sound effects, and story might compensate for poor game play -- and so a person's overall impression of a game might be very positive despite poor game play -- but I think it's important to criticize poor game play so that people who make games put more effort in to designing better game play.
I haven't played this game, but reading that article, and watching the video, gives me the impression that this game might require a lot of trial and error, and maybe doing a few things that cannot be discovered by logical reasoning, to finally "solve" the puzzles. I have played many adventure games with puzzles whose solutions involved random actions that no amount of reasoning could discover. In other cases the puzzles might be straightforward enough, but involve a ridiculous amount of trial and error.
Anyhow, I like "puzzles" in games that arise naturally from the general rules of the game environment and the specific configuration of each area or scenario. But as "Half-Life 2" demonstrated, even puzzles based on physics can seem really contrived. (The numerous puzzles involving ramps, pulleys, levers, etc, in that game sometimes detracted from the sense that one was in a real world. That would be fine if it weren't for the fact that much of that game's appeal comes from the fantasy of being a character in a convincing world. Honestly, the contrived aspect of some of the physics-based puzzles in that game strained the sense of immersion and believability more than the presence of alien creatures, force fields, the Gauss gun, and portals!) - bulgingbritches, on 10/21/2009, -1/+0"Wait for a sale"?? Where else can you get 6 or 7 hours of entertainment for $20?
