- billjimbob, on 09/12/2008, -3/+192I don't fault EA. Could you imagine if other forms of media let multiple people enjoy it even though only one person bought it? You'd end up with an entire family sitting around and watching one copy of a movie or something!
Oh, wait. - chazuk, on 09/11/2008, -1/+158This whole Spore fiasco is getting ***** worse.
I know people say that PC gaming is not dead but if ***** like this continues to happen it will destroy the PC gaming industry.
EA, go ***** yourself with your utterly absurd requirements just to play a ***** game. - billjimbob, on 09/12/2008, -4/+160http://www.demonoid.com/files/details/1606185/1804 ...
= no DRM issues - Ninh, on 09/11/2008, -10/+152Speak after me: Class-action lawsuit.
- coheedcollapse, on 09/12/2008, -0/+135It's funny because even with the multiple layers of DRM, the pirated copy was up even before the US release.
These idiots need to get it through their thick skulls that acting like ***** is NOT going to get them a devoted fanbase. The fact that they can't fathom the fact that people in the same household might want multiple online accounts is absolutely ridiculous. I don't know what they think people would do with that extra leeway, but couldn't they have made it a 2 or 3 username limit at least? - Grimi, on 09/12/2008, -6/+120Seams appropriate to me
- Boogalou007, on 09/12/2008, -1/+108I was actually going to buy this game until I read a review about the 3 activations. Crossed it off my list...
- Gizza, on 09/12/2008, -0/+88On a sorta related note, I just bought a DS and was surprised to find that a vast majority of the games can be played multiplayer with another local DS with only one of them having the cartridge. Mario Kart DS for example can have 8 people playing together with only 1 cartridge. That's the way you win over gamers.
- inactive, on 09/11/2008, -32/+107Having a goatse spore creature here seems rather inappropriate since we're talking about EA Customer Service.
- dsmx, on 09/12/2008, -1/+76Do EA view it as a challenge to get as many people annoyed with them as possible?
- h0ly, on 09/12/2008, -1/+73They are actually punishing the people that cared enough to buy their game, while making the pirated copy much more appealing in comparison. Congratulations, EA!

- inactive, on 09/12/2008, -0/+58EA really ***** up on this one, their attempts on curbing piracy only increased it.
Valve ftw, at least they figured it out by making good games to make up for it. - inactive, on 09/12/2008, -6/+64wow, just wow.
I will never buy this game. - coolboy0286, on 09/12/2008, -0/+55EA : "Woops guys, we accidentally made a typo and turned 'Only one account is allowed per purchased copy of Spore' into 'You may have multiple Spore accounts for each installation of the game.'. I know guys, typos these days can be so misleading!"
- PeteBeast, on 09/12/2008, -2/+55I'm just wondering what Will Wright is thinking of atm.
- Evilblobs, on 09/12/2008, -0/+46I think they're looking for ways to kill PC gaming.
- onlines, on 09/12/2008, -0/+46Remove DRM, and i will run out and purchase it. Keep DRM, and i will run out and purchase a DVD, or something else other than Spore. Keep it up EA. Maybe you guys can bump heads with the War on Drugs. I hear that's a great success as well....
- mitchlourens, on 09/12/2008, -1/+46I bought mine legitly, but they are saying that my key on the cd case is invalid. I emailed them about it, and they responded saying that I pirated it. I'm never buying from ea again... I might even put a picture of it on digg and call it *****.jpg
- Tyrghast, on 09/12/2008, -0/+45Big game companies need to stop living in a dream world, Bethesda didn't but any copy protection (not even cd-keys) on Oblivion and it sold like crazy. Why did it sell so well? Cus it was a damn good game worth it's 50 bucks. Sure it was pirated a lot, but that doesn't change the fact that it was a bestselling game for almost a year after it's release.
- thelif, on 09/12/2008, -0/+44Cl-ass-action lawsuit.
- SIRBERUS, on 09/12/2008, -22/+66Speak after me: Free market.
Don't like the game? Don't buy it.
I fantasized about a game like spore for years... I have been up to date on it from the start, making sure to watch every sneak preview, and every review I could find.
But as of this recent DRM news, I have chosen to simply not bother with the game. - Jhiaxuz, on 09/12/2008, -2/+44But if it actually says otherwise in the game manual and nowhere else on the package or installation read me to say otherwise, I would think they are playing with false advertisement issues if it's just average joe who is picking up the game.
Unless it stated on the box that it was one account per household there would be no way of knowing about this trickery and EA would just be able to pass the blame as a typo since there would have been a documented printing to compare it to in their favor. - randomstupid, on 09/12/2008, -0/+42EA games - challenge everything
- bitterbug, on 09/12/2008, -0/+42Dear EA,
I was a guaranteed sale on Spore.
Now you won't see a dime from me, due to your DRM. That goes for all future titles as well unless you remove these draconian restrictions from your games.
I'm sure other publishers will be quite happy to accept the money that was originally earmarked for you. - shutaro, on 09/11/2008, -1/+42Class-action lawsuit.
- Spuy767, on 09/12/2008, -1/+38The Sins of a Solar Empire developers discovered that not bothering with DRM doesn't hurt your sales.
- MagicIcarus, on 09/12/2008, -2/+34AndPC game makers wonder why consoles beat the ***** out of them?
There's nothing like paying 50 bucks for a game only to have it treat you like a pirate, then offer mediocre game play. At least you can resell it.... oh wait, you can't even do that.
Spore is the guy that doesn't give a reach around. - SIRBERUS, on 09/12/2008, -0/+31I missed the cut-off for editing my post...
While I still hate how sue-happy people are, after re-reading the article, it does appear that EA pulled a bait-n-switch, and seeing as you can't return a game once opened, I could see many people having a legitimate reason to want their money back, even if they need to take it a step further into legal action. - inactive, on 09/12/2008, -0/+31The MPAA has nightmares about that very scenario.
- Asheis, on 09/11/2008, -3/+31Hey, if you really want multiple accesses to the same copy.. well.. just do what I did.. get creative ;)
Me and my sister share our copy of spore, and we can play at the same time.. it just takes a bit of extra work, and no access to the online content :( - hellsing47, on 09/12/2008, -2/+26ahoy matees
- KMartSheriff, on 09/12/2008, -0/+22I'm going to download Spore just to spite those EA ***** riders. I probably won't even play it.
- Zipko, on 09/12/2008, -0/+22Same here. Maybe I'll torrent it, or at least demo it at a friends house, but with the DRM on this game I certainly won't pay for it. I'm glad I waited until after the initial reviews before buying it too, because I was more than happy to pay $50 for this game but that was to own it, not rent it.
- latinjones, on 09/12/2008, -1/+20I really regret buying this game. It's good in concept but It's lackluster gameplay and drm just plain suck. I'm not buying ANYMORE EA games.
Maxis should find a better publisher. - Groovel76, on 09/12/2008, -0/+19I was looking forward to this game but nevermind. 1 account per game, 3 install limit. Whats next, the game is only playable for 6months?
- VyPR, on 09/12/2008, -1/+20{andycode} A common typo.
{tatclass} the keys are like right next to each other - basye, on 09/11/2008, -3/+21Frackin' vultures.
- SirFragsMore, on 09/11/2008, -0/+18Virus
- FatherG, on 09/12/2008, -1/+18Valve is the anti-EA. Compare the Orange Box and Spore:
OB: Several full games for $29
Spore: 5 minigames for $60 - tommy7154, on 09/12/2008, -0/+17Could you name some stores that will take a return on open software because every store in my area has a policy that if it's been opened, you cannot return it. I assumed this was normal everywhere...
- supermanly, on 09/12/2008, -0/+16Duh. Milking the Madden cow for consoles is 100x more profitable than a game like Spore or PC games in general because of the smaller audience.
- Zarokima, on 09/12/2008, -0/+16***** you and ***** EA. I helped those programmers make a living when I bought my 3 installations and am now waiting to learn a hard lesson about waiting for initial reviews and just pirating after I have to reformat my desktop and/or laptop. If not for that ***** I'd feel a lot better about spending that $50.
- Beylan, on 09/12/2008, -0/+16If you used a credit card I would immediately call them and request a charge back for the purchase. The store sold you non-functioning goods, and then refused to replace it. The manufacturer refused to provide any support or honor their warranty. I'd say that should give you grounds.
Maybe if enough people do that it would give WalMarts and Best Buys cause to reconsider giving their precious shelf space to EAs (broken) games. - LMN8R, on 09/12/2008, -1/+16Man, I bought and am actually loving playing this game, but this ***** is ridiculous. It's obvious that none of their copy protection works at all, and it's not doing anything to prevent piracy.
- remccain, on 09/12/2008, -1/+16What part of "NO REFUNDS on opened software" did your temporal and parietal lobes fail to decode?
- kiwimonk, on 09/12/2008, -0/+15EA as a company bugs me, but the most irritating thing they always do.. When you launch the game, it shows their logo animation.. and you can't skip it! Every other company that worked on the same game allows their logo to be skipped. Hate grows every time I see that logo!
- Sabretou, on 09/12/2008, -0/+14From what I've figured, Spore is marketed for the casual gamers crowd, so EA exploited that and added DRM, because casual gamers wouldn't know. But us hardcore gamers end up pissed off because we know that in the gaming industry, this is *****.
