- brentonk, on 01/10/2009, -0/+127Now true guitarists can show off their totally sweet skills... playing Disney songs.
- glowfood, on 01/10/2009, -4/+96It will be a sad day for Guitar Hero fanboys when they pickup this game and realize how horrible they are at playing a real guitar.
- KSUdesigner, on 01/10/2009, -1/+51I've been waiting for something like this, but the Disney brand scares me. I'm not interested in learning to play real guitar with a Miley Cyrus song. Especially for $200. They would have to pay me to get me to do that.
- mtoto21, on 01/10/2009, -3/+36Randy: So you boys like this music, huh?
Kyle: Yeah, dude, it's Guitar Hero!
Butters: Stan and Kyle are really good at it!
Randy: Well, you kids wanna see something really cool? Check this out. [He takes out a guitar, plugs in his amp, and begins playing "Carry on Wayward Son."] [sings] Once I rose above the noise and confusion / Just to get a glimpse beyond this illusion / I was soarin' ever higher / But I flew too high... / Though my eyes could --
Stan: [angry] Dad! Dad! What are you doing?!
Randy: I can actually play a lot of these songs on a real guitar. You want me to teach you boys how? [beams]
Cartman: ...Uh, that's gay, Mr. Marsh. - OregonTrail, on 01/10/2009, -0/+32I love when he tries to explain "latency" and he either wasn't trained very well for the conference or he doesn't know that he's talking to Wired.
- jake1337, on 01/10/2009, -1/+31I play real guitar well but suck at guitar hero, anyone else have that problem?
- CrazyCarl22, on 01/10/2009, -1/+30Though playing guitar hero is really fun when you are good. It may be sad, but it's fun.
- quasipolymath, on 01/10/2009, -0/+19That's true. You don't see anyone saying "Look at all these kids playing Gears of War 2. If they just applied themselves, they could be, like, REAL space marines instead of fake ones."
- inactive, on 01/09/2009, -3/+22I suspect Guitar Rising will be out before this and will be leaps and bounds better.
- ivanwave, on 01/10/2009, -3/+22I don't know...this sounds awfully similar to playing to guitar while listening to a song and reading the tabs...only, you know, $100 more expensive.
- sirbeta, on 01/10/2009, -0/+18This seems really cool, but I seriously hope it doesn't end up limited to crappy High School Musical songs or even just Disney songs. If this thing was opened to more music, it has potential to be epic.
- rodroohf, on 01/10/2009, -0/+17I wouldn't mind rocking out to the Lion King soundtrack
- theharvman, on 01/10/2009, -1/+18This is what I have been waiting for! I love guitar + I love guitar hero = I love this!
- RemarkableRyan, on 01/10/2009, -0/+17This games gonna be Jam-Packed with Jonas Brothers and Hannah Montana trash
- BooneFaustus, on 01/10/2009, -1/+17The weird thing is almost all the people I know who like Guitar Hero can already play instruments and are in bands. They just like the game because it's fun.
- PhoenixAvatar2, on 01/10/2009, -0/+15So is playing any video game. How is GH/RB different?
- Zuggbar, on 01/10/2009, -5/+18Was it just me, or did both of those guys come across as extremely douchey?
- pinstripewizard, on 01/10/2009, -1/+14Did that acoustic guitar have a whammy bar?
- ABadPerson, on 01/10/2009, -24/+37Expert level guitar hero gamers truly have no life.
Actually learning to play a real guitar is a much more portable skill. ;) - hackiavelli, on 01/11/2009, -0/+12Guitar Hero has to be about the only game where you'll get ragged on for not being able to do the equivalent in real life. I have yet to hear anyone complain that I can't power slide a car at 100 MPH, can't break bricks with my head, or don't spend my days carjacking and killing hookers.
- lump1, on 01/10/2009, -0/+12I suck at both, but moreso at guitar hero.
- PhoenixAvatar2, on 01/10/2009, -1/+13I think it's funny how people who don't play GH and Rock Band seem to think that GH/RB players think they could actually play a guitar. You'd have to be in idiot to think you could jump off a plastic controller and onto a real guitar. It's just a fun game, with the best music anywhere and an interesting controller that's easy to pick up and impossible to master.
- alpha94, on 01/10/2009, -0/+11I keep checking the guitar rising site and unfortuneately it hasn't been updated since 2007. But I keep telling people about it, I have hope!
- ashura001, on 01/10/2009, -0/+11The problem that people see to have is that they can't wrap their heads around the fact that Guitar Hero and Rock Band aren't about learning how to play instruments.
They're about having fun and being as accessible as possible to as many people as possible. Not that you can't have fun while learning an instrument, but some people don't care to learn an instrument. They just want to play a fun video game. - WhoDoneIt, on 01/10/2009, -0/+10Concept looks great, but the Disney names throws a loop in it for me. The featured song he was playing was from High School Musical. I don't think I could take that and playing Expert level "When you wish upon a star"
- RuthlessWoggle, on 01/10/2009, -0/+9Don't forget the Jonas Brothers. That would suck ass.
- Gizmo688, on 01/10/2009, -1/+10yeah especially on songs i can play well on real guitar. GT confuses the crap outta me on those.
- XenoSNK, on 01/10/2009, -6/+15I have a life thank you very much. I'll admit it's not really much of a skill to be able to do that, but still.
If you can wrap your mind around how the music is supposed to sound, the rest comes naturally in about two weeks or so. - khyberkitsune, on 01/10/2009, -1/+9This is going to be funny as hell when it comes out, as millions of people are going to get brain-fried because they've been so used to a "single string with 5 frets" for so long.
And in the meantime, Disney music, eh? You teach me guitar versions of some of the ***** from Fantasia, sure I'm in. Miley Cyrus? No ***** you.
Can't wait to watch these poor confused souls try to interact with 6 strings. It's prolly gonna be guitar tab hero in the finished version. - gazboo, on 01/10/2009, -0/+8cdahlkvist is neither everyone nor is he claiming Guitar Rising is going to be the Disney Star Guitarist killer.
- Mr_Lyle, on 01/10/2009, -0/+8I never understood why people try comparing what is essentially a hand to eye coordination game to playing a musical instrument. Guitar Hero and Rock Band are just very simple hand to eye coordination games that use music as a form of delivering the experience and a plastic controller that happens to look like a guitar. That's it. What the ***** does that have to do with playing an instrument?
And here's another thing I don't understand. Getting good at guitar hero or rock band to the point of playing on expert should take no more than maybe 3 months. Is that a useless skill? Hell yes, all you really get out of it is nice hand to eye coordination exercise. Learning to play a real guitar takes years of commitment which, quite honestly, is a level of commitment not many people are actually capable of. And what exactly do you get out of it? Are you gonna become a rock star and make a ***** of money? Not likely. You'll just be some guy who can play guitar. I have a friend who's a very good guitarist. What exactly does having that skill add to his day to day life? Pretty much nothing, in fact it kinda sucks for him cause at every party people ask him to play the same ***** over and over again. And he has a gf so he can't even use his skill to get laid anymore either.
Stop comparing video games to their real life equivalents. It's just ridiculous. - napalm9295, on 01/10/2009, -0/+8That interviewer is so awkward... who the hell would hire him?
- improllyatwork, on 01/10/2009, -1/+8cooler then guitar hero, much dumber then just buying a guitar and learning the fun way.
- Typhoon2009, on 01/10/2009, -2/+9I do wonder where people get the impression that Guitar Hero & Rock Band players think that because they're good at a video game they're good at real instruments.
- bigbangbuddha, on 01/10/2009, -1/+8I've been a musician for 30 years and GH/RB mess with my head. The games are a lot of fun, but I'm always trying to hit beats that are not represented in the queue. They seem to only be a partial representation of the rythms at times, kinda abstract. This new game is going to be much much worse for me I'm sure. What happens when you bend or slide a note? Which, once you get on fire and the song has any kind of upbeat tempo, everyone will. Will it fail you because it wasn't the tone it was looking for? Guitar tone depends so much on the player, Ill be very surprised if it works as well as they claim. Either that or it may produce a hole lot of guitar players that play it like a typewriter. But kudos for the idea, so many people miss out on music because they think you have to have some sort of gift. Reality is that its a language we can all learn, we just are never taught it. If this can at least open up people to the idea of playing music then its worth it for sure. Good job Disney.
- grantmoore3d, on 01/10/2009, -0/+6The visual representation would make it so much easier to understand than a tab. I play guitar and I still get occasionally confused with fret numbers.
- GuitarHeroDenn, on 01/10/2009, -2/+8What the dick is taking Guitar Rising so long? No updates or news in over a year, and Disney comes in and picks up the idea >_>
- frishdude, on 01/10/2009, -0/+5you don't have to wait at all if you're willing to do some modding
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=84FJQvg8f0I - Books, on 01/10/2009, -0/+5I'm the Disney Star Guitarist killer.
- Typhoon2009, on 01/10/2009, -0/+4Hopefully we 'poor confused souls' won't buy a game chock-full of the Jonas Brothers.
- tacojohn48, on 01/10/2009, -0/+4I read your comment and thought that google had introduced a new service.
- MediaCrisis, on 01/10/2009, -1/+5Not to get defensive, but I play guitar hero/rockband on expert and I have musical talent. However, I play piano, so hitting buttons ins a rhythmical pattern is a good thing ;) Can't play guitar to save my life.
I'd contemplate getting this if I didn't see the High School Musical logo on the screen. Dealbreaker? - Rubyss, on 01/10/2009, -0/+4I think so.
The colored strings made me /wrist - retoriplastique, on 01/10/2009, -0/+4Damn right. The motif from the soundtrack is one of the most beatiful I have ever heard. And the best soundtrack composed by Hans Zimmer to date.
- invrse, on 01/10/2009, -2/+6I still rather play a real guitar over the real song in my honest opinion.
- bigfatphony19, on 01/10/2009, -0/+4You could pretty much read rock band drum notes and play the song.
- retoriplastique, on 01/10/2009, -2/+6Youtube comments.
- niftycake, on 01/10/2009, -1/+4Cookie?
- CdnBacon, on 01/10/2009, -1/+4Why not just get a guitar and google tabs, then listen to the music and learn? No need to purchase any software to learn guitar.
- steviesteveo, on 01/10/2009, -0/+3There's an anti-drummer joke in there somewhere.
