- mehbored, on 03/23/2008, -3/+68oh god a mediocre article that is spread out over 6 pages....
can i have an article on one page please? Its not that hard.... - alclone, on 03/23/2008, -3/+63Wtf where is Red Orchestra and Day of Defeat
- stupidverizon, on 03/23/2008, -1/+46A link to MSNBC that has to do with games? LOL, something has seriously gone wrong here.
- petebert, on 03/23/2008, -2/+37buried for sucking
- spoo71, on 03/23/2008, -5/+39Buried because this is just another unwelcome reminder that there is no decent War of 1812 game available.
- wabbiteh, on 03/23/2008, -2/+34Holy crap this is a bad article (see: "Gamers share one common trait: We all really love killing Nazis"). Why is this on MSNBC?
- bestoss, on 03/23/2008, -1/+29i hope they put frontline by accident, and really meant Allied Assault
- Spetz, on 03/23/2008, -1/+26The average German soldier wasn't necessarily a Nazi. To be a Nazi you had to have been a member of the political party, and a large proportion of German soldiers were simply called up to fight for their country.
Also, no Red Orchestra? Easily the best WW2 FPS game. Eastern front never gets any credit, even in computer games... - hipnotyq, on 03/23/2008, -0/+15terrible list, what does msnbc know about gaming? why do they keep writing lists, thinking that they know what they're talking about?
Day of Defeat
Brothers in Arms
Medal of honor Allied Assault (omaha level blew me away)
Enemy Territory
Red Orchestra - mjpanzer, on 03/23/2008, -2/+17The original Medal Of Honor "D-Day" mission will forever be the greatest achievement of a WW2 game in my mind.
- liah, on 03/23/2008, -1/+14Where's my little unsung hero, Day of Defeat 1.3? It's the only FPS I'll continuously play throughout the years. It never gets any credit. :(
- alclone, on 03/23/2008, -0/+13Lol I actually prefer being the German's on CoD cause nothing owns more than the mp44
- cheeseron, on 03/23/2008, -1/+13what the ***** no brothers in arms?
- jc7012, on 03/23/2008, -1/+12It's just too soon man, America isn't ready...
- inactive, on 03/23/2008, -1/+12No love for Return to Castle Wolfenstein
- inactive, on 03/23/2008, -2/+11THQs Company of Heroes is at the top of my list.
- risingson, on 03/23/2008, -0/+8Enemy Territory?
- wabbiteh, on 03/23/2008, -1/+9Company of Heroes is listed.
- usingpond, on 03/23/2008, -1/+9Wow, MSNBC, thanks for a meaningless article about 5 years too late!
- yeahclick, on 03/23/2008, -2/+9You don't seem to get it. Four players can fight each other simultaneously in a split-screen deathmatch!
- jbeardsl, on 03/23/2008, -0/+6The best game of the genre, Red Orchestra, gets no mention? The game that really started the ball rolling for WWII FPS, the original Medal of Honor, gets no mention? You can't tell me the landing on Omaha scene still isn't burned into your memory. Buried as inaccurate.
- dimension, on 03/23/2008, -0/+6Return to Castle Wolfenstein multiplayer... best FPS ever... Splash Damage sucks.
- TimmyA, on 03/23/2008, -1/+7IL-2 Sturmovik 1946
Terrible, terrible article. - satanswetnipple, on 03/23/2008, -0/+5Unfortunately, most Americans are wilfully ignorant of what happened outside of DDay and the fall of Berlin. There were many desperate battles won by the Allies before USA joined the war. There were fronts Americans have never heard of. The Eastern front was important, and many disgusting tactics were adopted by the Japanese. Africa was a strategic front that if lost, would have meant oil for the German war machine. There were battles like Monte Casino, Stalingrad, Malta, Khalkhin-Gol and the guerrilla war of Chetnics and Partisans (Oh, America and England forgot that the Serbia fought on our side in WWII).
Simply, USA was not at most of the important battles, and did not have the impact that Americans believe. America could have sold the Allies the planes and armour and the outcome would have been the same.
So here are my problems with these games. All but a few have Americans as the main characters. They concentrate on the few battles America was involved in, OR they put Americans into battles the Americans were not part of. They ignore battles and whole theatres that will not sell to Americans who believe Bulge and DDay was the war. They do not allow you to play advancing or retreating Germans, who were not, for the most, Nazis. In fact, most companies were just trying to survive their defeat. THAT would be an interesting game. Play a retreating German, where survival is the goal, as the supplies dry up, and the battles become more hopeless. - Slade605, on 03/23/2008, -1/+6I love Dave Defeat!
- jrcarscadden, on 03/23/2008, -0/+5What? No Red Orchestra: Ostfront? RO is, hands down, the best multiplayer WWII FPS.
MOH: Frontline is craptastic, but I played that game at least 50 times. Played the multiplayer a lot as well. Allied Assault was way better. - blankoboy, on 03/23/2008, -0/+5Battlefield 1942 was the best hands down. Add to this, the Desert Combat Final mod, and it was the ultimate gaming experience bar none. I have to this day, yet to experience a level of gaming fun that could compare to playing Capture the Flag on a 64 player server in Desert Combat. So sad those days are gone...
- inactive, on 03/23/2008, -0/+5Buried for slideshow.
- Ovalteen, on 03/23/2008, -0/+4Can we get some love for games that aren't pure arcade FPS?:
- The Invasion 1944 mod for Operation Flashpoint
- The Panzer General series
- Silent Hunter Series
- Combat Flight Simulator II
- European Air War
- IL2 series
Any of those is better than that article's entire list combined. - adml_shake, on 03/23/2008, -1/+5I can't believe they put Frontline on there and skipped over Day of Defeat, thats just nuts.
- ruded0g, on 03/23/2008, -0/+4MSNBC + Ken Smith (author of said article) = not a clue.......
- gbro, on 03/23/2008, -0/+4Ironic that america was goaded into the war by the Japanese attacking Pearl Harbour.
- SuperVepr308, on 03/23/2008, -1/+5You are correct. For a good look at that, check out a book entitled, Iron Coffins. German sub history and their HATE of the Nazis and what they did.
- WoollyMittens, on 03/23/2008, -0/+45 paragraphs of non-information split over 6 pages. Crap.
- dtele, on 03/23/2008, -2/+6EAW - European Air War
- BurgerDST, on 03/23/2008, -0/+4IL-2 Sturmovik and Strategic Command Series are great as well. Not all games are shooters.
- AleksDmitrov, on 03/23/2008, -1/+5Where is Silent Hunter?
- nixfu, on 03/23/2008, -0/+4Day of Defeat....best WW2 game ever. And its free, which is probably why it didn't make the list because the lamer could not write this article by looking at what was for sale at Best Buy.
- yohojones, on 03/23/2008, -3/+6+digg for COH mention.
- toughice, on 03/23/2008, -0/+3B-17 Bomber on the Intellivision. That's my favorite WW2 game.
- Linkin4, on 03/23/2008, -0/+3The ppsh does.
- blast_flame, on 03/23/2008, -1/+4Do'h!
- pathy, on 03/23/2008, -1/+4Company of Heroes was a FPS?
Damn, fooled me. - lobsterxcore, on 03/23/2008, -0/+3The garand clip popping out is music to my ears.
- neocr0n, on 03/23/2008, -0/+3What about any of the Commando games?
- inactive, on 03/23/2008, -0/+3Yeah same I love being the Nazi's because I like listening to them speak in the game.
- tMANwi, on 03/23/2008, -0/+3I hear you there. I can remember countless hours of fun flying a chopper around, when most people couldn't. Now everyone and their mother can fly a chopper in BF2. Desert Combat was the best mod I have ever seen.
- Wartz, on 03/23/2008, -0/+3While DC was the best, I think project reality for BF2 is getting there.
- Emnsta, on 03/23/2008, -0/+2*****, its always Europe this and Europe that, anyone know why it was called WORLD War 2?
