- AwesomeMonster, on 06/29/2008, -3/+36There was a multiplayer sims... Sims Online. It sucked but it still existed.
- EnfantinChloe, on 06/29/2008, -3/+23The only fun in the Sims was playing Single and killing them when you were bored... lol. Sorry to say, but I think you can't run into a Sim player who hasn't had the joy of killing them.
- ethornquist, on 06/29/2008, -1/+20This is the Black Hole of video games for me. Multiplayer? Noooooooooooo . . .
- Frozenfuryblade, on 06/30/2008, -0/+17I really don't understand how EA could have screwed up The Sims Online so badly.
- JasonTD, on 06/26/2009, -1/+16The article says the reason WOW is more successful that Second Life is that people want avatars that are powerful, rather than ordinary people. I think it's more because there are achievable goals in WOW that make it easier for the general player to jump in and feel like they're making progress and having fun, whereas Second Life is completely user created and goalless, making for an immense learning curve. It's a surprising truth that people generally prefer to be guided and told what to do rather than given unlimited choices.
- Frozenfuryblade, on 06/30/2008, -4/+13More like Second Life is a poor rip off of The Sims.
- igjoe, on 06/30/2008, -1/+7So with multiplayer, will I still be able to invite people over, bring them to my large isolated building out back lined with couches and rugs, remove the door in edit mode and then set a fireworks station in the middle of the room?
- Metalmoon, on 06/30/2008, -1/+7As much as I can get hooked by The Sims, two words will distract me until the game is out. Diablo III
- bjornski, on 06/30/2008, -0/+6It's EA.
That's how. - Taelur1, on 06/29/2008, -1/+7Give me a ninja or samurai MMORPG and I'm fine. Or better yet, bring Megaten Online over to the states.
- SugarCoatedSalt, on 06/30/2008, -3/+7isn't that a word and a number?
- Lith25, on 06/30/2008, -0/+4I beta-tested The Sims Online and it was terrible. All there was to do was sit on different items and raise your skill in that profession. Maybe it was improved upon release, but there could of been so much more to it.
- andyd273, on 07/01/2008, -0/+3The Sims: Online, videogame. A game barely alive. Gentlemen, we can rebuild it. We have the technology. We have the capability to build the world's next complete waste of time. The Sims: Online 2 will be that game. Better than it was before. Better, stronger, faster.
- theduckchaser, on 07/01/2008, -0/+3hm, that's possible. although then maybe one could argue that the goal-less-ness of life-simulating games is another quality of real life that people are trying to get away from, aka http://www.ratemyeverything.net/image/9638/0/Suici ...
- FredFredrickson, on 06/30/2008, -2/+5Multiplayer future of Sims? What, is this the 90's all over again?
Spoiler alert:
The Sims: Online already came and went. It was a dismal failure. - theduckchaser, on 06/29/2008, -0/+3Well considering the reviews, it's probably not gonna be a very powerful black hole. Anyway I'm not sure I'd be able to make my sims behave the way they usually do if they're actually in public...
- Asianwaste, on 06/30/2008, -0/+3It sucked so bad, Will Wright even said... "I'm sooooo sorry I did this to you all"
- Risingashes, on 07/01/2008, -0/+2It's also a general human trait to redefine reality in order to suit their world view.
People are sheep- that isn't a bad thing, but it's true. People want to be taken on a ride, not to determine what the ride is- that would require effort, which isn't what people want.
Minimum effort, maximum reward. If you want to find out what people really want all you need to do is look at what forms of entertainment are most popular. - nmanguy, on 06/30/2008, -0/+2I hope it has steep requirements so that when people realize that World of Sims sucks, they can use that fancy new gaming pc they bought in order to run real games.
- brnwrig1, on 06/30/2008, -0/+2makes me wonder how HOME will do.
- Doomsan, on 06/30/2008, -1/+3.........oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo......................!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11
- xkrwlng, on 06/30/2008, -0/+2"The fact that EA had nixed user-created content..."
EA Fail. It's in the game. - inactive, on 06/29/2008, -3/+5ha like first life
- xkrwlng, on 06/30/2008, -0/+2yes, but you have to buy the multiplayer expansion expansion for that
- Swampthing, on 07/08/2008, -0/+1More like The Sims was a poor rip off of Habitat for the Commodore 64... and it also had an on-line component too! Later followed up with RabbitJack Casino and Club Caribe.
Or you could say they were all ripoffs of "Little Computer People" introduced in 1985...
Or maybe it's more realistic to say that all games have derivative components from somewhere, and they successfully integrated those elements into their own product with an up to date design. - JoeSpaceTime, on 11/12/2008, -0/+1Redefining reality to suit one's own world view and being a sheep appear to be two opposite acts. Maybe we do a bit of both; flick from one to another; trial and improvement.
I'd adree that people like to be taken on a ride - e.g. a story in a film - but I think this isn't the goal in itself. The film isn't just a product to be consumed, It is part of a process. You learn from stories and apply new knowledge to your world. - bjornski, on 06/30/2008, -0/+1***** the expansions.
Time for a re-write. How many are they up to now? 7? 8? 9?
Tired of paying for expansion packs. - statix, on 06/30/2008, -0/+1would you go out with me....on the Sims?
- Sixark, on 06/30/2008, -1/+2It's about time that they came out with some worthwhile expansion for The Sims . . . granted this may suck but still, it's a lot better than getting a new set of clothes from A&F . . .
- JoeSpaceTime, on 11/12/2008, -0/+1...and yet people still escape to these goal-less realities
- johnnyzero, on 07/01/2008, -0/+1III or 3 is a word. It is a word that represents a number as much as Diablo isn't actually 'a demon', but a word that represents a demon (or awesome video game)
- chukd, on 06/30/2008, -0/+1No, leave the Sims the way it is. I like it offline and free of online bull. I do not want to pay a monthly server fee to see some dumb ass walk around screaming dumb things.
- Forbizzle, on 07/01/2008, -1/+2That... and the fact that WoW appeals to more than social rejects.
- Arasaka, on 07/01/2008, -0/+1I remember some (slightly retarded) people I know were convinced there was a way to play the original Sims, online. I told them "No! You can't play it over the internet, or any network." And they just kept saying "It's ok, we will put it on LAND [sic]." Damn I hate people sometimes.
- nafai, on 07/01/2008, -0/+1Yay, let's try to get 4 12-year-old girls together to try and make virtual pizza! Wa-hoo!
- Lugal317, on 07/02/2008, -0/+1I couldn't really imagine about talking with my gamer friends about the awesome house I built last night and how I'm getting married in the game world... or missed 2 hrs of sleep and might lose my sims job. I mean... I do those things in RL.. I play WoW because it's fun, interesting, there's always something to do or someone to help do something... and the endgame is the best of all MMO's.
- MattBD, on 07/01/2008, -0/+1I did that too, but my favourite was getting the children taken away by the social services. I once left two children, a newborn baby and a toddler, out in the snow for hours on end with exactly that aim.
- doshindude, on 06/30/2008, -3/+3Ahh...I remember the Sims 1 and the Livin' Large expansion...now that was enough for me. The Sims 2 ruined and beyond ruined it.
- Asianwaste, on 06/30/2008, -0/+1They just need community support for user custom content trade. Like tools for customizing skins, furniture, etc.
- Britney90210, on 07/02/2008, -0/+1Not another SecondLife clone!
- sorbetera, on 07/01/2008, -0/+1I did. After working them off to reach their full potential, I get bored and make new sims. But since I can't handle too many sims in the house (I go crazy handling all those needs) I kill some of them off. I once had a full generation of tombstones in my sims' backyard. XD
- inactive, on 06/30/2008, -0/+0I played The Sims Online. It was *****. Why the hell did I ever quit UO for it!?
- nireus, on 12/23/2008, -0/+0nice one thank you dude,
This link for the ones who wants sXe-Injected download ; http://sxe.oyunalemi.com - bjornski, on 06/30/2008, -1/+1That's why I've been on Second Life for 18 months and not WoW.
/tho I'm still a sucker for EQ2
//and Funcom! Get off your ass and do AO2! ***** Conan!
///would play AO2 for years, if it was as good as the first (for it's time) - FithosVinosec, on 06/30/2008, -1/+1For me, I only had fun when I had enough money to build whatever I wanted, and was able to harass my Sims as much as possible
- M724, on 06/29/2008, -6/+6Looks like a poor ripoff of Second Life to me.
- JoeSpaceTime, on 06/30/2008, -2/+2It depends how you define success. I'm not so sure people prefer to be guided and told what to do. I think generally people are suppressed to conforming, and that they would prefer to be self-organized and to decide for themselves.
- LBobRife, on 06/30/2008, -2/+1It's more like a seperate genre that's all inspired by things like the Metaverse from Snow Crash by Neal Stephenson.
- bjornski, on 06/30/2008, -4/+2I haven't.
I don't find it funny.
