- maxvette, on 06/10/2009, -24/+124Don't ever buy games from EA. Download them like God commands.
- archaist, on 06/09/2009, -8/+100Too bad the copy they're selling isn't even the whole game. About half of the game is available as "downloadable content" at a price ticket. And the entire game itself is significantly less wonderful than the Sims 2 plus all of its expansions. I think they intentionally made it bland and featureless so that it'd be easy to make uninspired expansions for it.
I realize EA has to make money somehow but this fragment of a game isn't worth what they're asking. Please stop giving them money for it. - inactive, on 06/10/2009, -6/+65BUT THE GAME WAS LEAKED ON THEPIRATEBAY SURELY IT WOULD HAVE BEEN 2.8 MILLIONS NOW HAD IT NOT BEEN THAT!!!
Worst is, I downloaded the pirated version, it was good, and I still bought the official release. - darkism, on 06/10/2009, -1/+57Looks like that early leak really did a number on sales, huh?
- Findox, on 06/10/2009, -2/+58The entire population of South Korea will buy Starcraft 2.
- PatchesOhulihan, on 06/10/2009, -3/+44My cat's breath smells like cat food.
- felman87, on 06/10/2009, -7/+44If starcraft 2 doesn't outsell this, there's no hope for this world.
- acegi, on 06/10/2009, -0/+3423yo male from montreal... his name is frank.
i hope you like sweaty boxers. - jnuffnuffnomnom, on 06/10/2009, -8/+39I hope you're a girl
send me your panties. - roxgod666, on 06/10/2009, -3/+31My bet is it won't even come close. Sims series attracts to every age group and has too big of a fan base.
- Coreyc150, on 06/10/2009, -0/+27If you arent making a lesbian threesome living in a single bedroom apartment then you are doing it wrong
- Rell812, on 06/10/2009, -3/+29it's funny because people think stealing a game is somehow punishing the company for their wrongdoings and is what gave rise to all this DRM and downloadable content in the first place.
- Griminald, on 06/10/2009, -0/+18The problem is that EA had so many expansions of Sims 2 made to begin with -- it spoiled Sims 2 players into expecting that everything should be in the next major Sims game. With the graphical and back-end updates to Sims 3, they simply couldn't make the equivalent amount of content.
Yes, it means they'll have a bunch of expansions for Sims 3 to "catch up". And people will unfortunately buy them all.
That said, there are things missing from Sims 3 that seemed pretty basic in Sims 2 -- like hot tubs. - nurbsenvi, on 06/10/2009, -2/+17I don't like Sims... it's so boring... it's like watching daytime television.
- CrazySpaniard, on 06/10/2009, -0/+15thats why it's the Sims 3
- Tallon29, on 06/10/2009, -1/+15... so is the release version.
- otros, on 06/10/2009, -2/+15OMG PC gaming is dead.
- TheTaoOfBill, on 06/10/2009, -0/+13You'd be better off just undressing barbie dolls.
- coffeehaulic, on 06/10/2009, -1/+14That's weird, I can run it maxed out on my $500 custom pc
- generaleet, on 06/10/2009, -1/+14I downloaded it...from ea.com...hahahahaha. No, but seriously they didn't use drm in this one so why not support the publisher?
- sanderspike, on 06/10/2009, -4/+15I loved the game! I also got it for free from Appulo.us. Jailbreak = Win
- yuutokun, on 06/10/2009, -5/+15You're assuming all those pirates would have bought the game in the first place.
- Griminald, on 06/10/2009, -0/+9After playing Sims 3, with the lack of loading screens in town and diagonal object placement, there's no way I could play Sims 2 again. :/
- Stryke, on 06/10/2009, -0/+9I know it's the cool thing to bitch about EA and everything it releases, but Sims 3 is a pretty damn good game. The Sims has always been a guilty pleasure of mine, it's a fun time killer.
I downloaded the early leak, and to be honest I'm quite impressed with it; to a point where where I won't mind forking out some cash for it. However, what I won't be doing is pay for any the inevitable expansions, I believe the current price tag is more than enough to suffice for those. - veskris, on 06/10/2009, -2/+11I'm not sure what you're all complaining about, it's the funnest time I've ever had playing the Sims. You can't expect them to release nine expansion packs worth of content under one development time-frame, that's ridiculous. And the amount of content offered on the EA store right now is minimal; there's like one neighborhood, a few theme sets, and then an assortment of random clothes.
I found it to be a huge leap forward in the series, especially regarding the open-world aspect, and the way skills are actually fun to improve now (fishing is addictive!). And considering the game runs better on my 5 year old computer than the prior two games do, I think they did a great job. - HolemCross, on 06/10/2009, -0/+9That doesn't stop people from making it. Look around and there are some interesting things already out there.
- ken12012, on 06/10/2009, -1/+9I purchased the release version and downloaded the leaked version. They are IDENTICAL.
- Lith25, on 06/10/2009, -0/+8I've been enjoying the game the past few days. Is it revolutionary? Not at all. But it's still a simple game that offers enjoyment. Worth a $40 pricetag if you ask me.
- Richardgm, on 06/10/2009, -1/+9I'm still playing Sims 2 (since 2004)... same family too. Good stuff.
- Foot56, on 06/10/2009, -1/+9I’m willing to bet 85% percent of the Digg Community downloaded The Sims nude patch for it also.
- veskris, on 06/10/2009, -1/+9Have fun. The Reloaded version is an unfinished build and is missing quite a bit of content.
- sTiKyt, on 06/10/2009, -1/+9DRM and dc will just end up making people pirate complete packs with all the expansions not just because it's free but it's a hell of a lot more convenient.
- Lazydriver, on 06/10/2009, -0/+7Sim City 4 and The Sims 2 were hardly, if at all, touched by Will Wright.
Maxis has been dead for ten years, it's just a brand. - darthweder, on 06/10/2009, -0/+7Since you hate how they are ripping you off with expansions and DLC, how about you just buy the game, illegally download the expansions, and just get the free clothes and furniture that the mod community makes? Worked well for me with the last sims.
- firesights, on 06/11/2009, -2/+9You're an idiot.
- Stemnin, on 06/10/2009, -0/+7The Sims series has always been huge, I believe both titles have 16 million + sold each last time I checked, that was a while back.
- paintmeprettyx, on 06/10/2009, -1/+7THANK YOU! I'm still pissed off that I fell into the trap of buying it. Its ridiculous how much content they have left out. Being an avid simmer myself, the biggest thing that infuriated me was the fact that you can't even make a freaking town in the game.
- BrownieMix, on 06/10/2009, -5/+11I'm buying a new laptop next week with my birthday money so I can play the Sims 3.
- mikemil828, on 06/10/2009, -1/+7Better start looking for a cave to live in now, because Starcraft isn't going to sell as much, for one thing it has far too large a proportion of nerds in it's fanbase to sell as well as the much less nerdy Sims games
- inactive, on 06/10/2009, -0/+6*sales
- archaist, on 06/10/2009, -1/+7would they get jealous of each other and get into fights?
actually I guess that would be pretty hot. starting a new game now - coffeehaulic, on 06/10/2009, -0/+5If you play sims 3 vs 2 vs 1 with no expansions, there is way more that you can do in this game than the other 3. If you compare The Sims 3 to the Sims 2 with all the expansion packs there isn't nearly as much to do, but this is the 3rd round, did you really expect any different? The lack of loading alone makes it worth your while to switch.
- NervousEnergy, on 06/10/2009, -0/+5The Sims 1 (and its expansions) is to me still the absolute best in the series. The brilliant new-age music, corny graphics, subtle humour...t'was awesome. The Sims 2 really paled in comparison to that. Then again, maybe its just nostalgia talking.
- Langford, on 06/10/2009, -0/+5LOL, I reinstalled Sims 1 just the other day. I've still got to get my money's worth out of all those expansion packs.
- tnoy, on 06/10/2009, -0/+4Saying you have a "Mac Pro" doesn't say anything about the hardware in it. What are the specs? What generation Xeon does yours have?
You can have a Mac Pro with a couple Woodcrest Xeons, 1GB of ram, and an ATI 7300 video card. A Mac Pro is serious hardware for what it is designed for, but you can't get around the fact that you can easily build a computer for gaming at a fraction of the cost. Thinking otherwise is flat out ignorance.
Even if you have a current-gen Mac Pro, if you're pairing it with the default-spec GT 120, its going to perform like ***** with modern games turned to their max.
Games are not an indication of overall system performance. They have very different requirements than, say, compressing video using a motion jpeg2000 based codec. - Lionhart, on 06/10/2009, -3/+7It wasn't even developed by Maxis and Will Wright (they were busy with Spore).
There's a lot of corrupt goings on with The Sims 3. For one, they had this little developers camp where they only invited certain people in the custom content community, and they're trying to make it so only their good friends can make (and sell btw) custom content for the sims 3. It's a complete reversal on their previous position in sims 2 that custom content cannot be sold. Follow the $! - coffeehaulic, on 06/10/2009, -0/+4Mac Pros are awesome, but when you have a quad core @3.5ghz and you get ridiculous deals on individual parts from all corners of the internet, it's pretty amazing what you can build for so cheap. Oh, and Win7 is free right now, so I didn't have to pay for that. Granted, my case might look like it's straight out of the 90's so I guess that's what you're paying for. But yeah, I guess you're right, I do run it at 1920x1080 on my 42", but yeah everything is turned up as high as it will go.
- Nateon, on 06/12/2009, -0/+4I played the game for awhile and just like real life, it sucks. My sim works all day at his ***** job where he is living a pipedream of becoming a great composer but instead is setting up shows for ***** bands in the local theatre as a roadie. Instead of studying music theory he has to make his "bandmates" happy so they don't bitch at him for setting up the drumkits wrong.
When he gets off work he goes back home to his ***** condo, eats dinner and sleeps. When he wakes up he has to clean up all the ***** in his house including the papers the ***** paper boy leaves every day on his step. He cooks food but the oven is shoddy and his food always comes out uneven. He's lucky if the sink and toilet don't clog too. By the time he's finished with all the ***** there's only a couple hours left to practice guitar but right as he picks up the instrument his girlfriend/boss calls him to hang out. Yea, wouldn't it be really funny to have a one night stand with your cute flirtatious boss that mocks your inadequate guitar skills with her far superior talent? Now he's stuck with her and she doesn't even put out anymore.
Between work, attention whores and sleep you can't really do anything fun at all. The Sims nailed real life and it sucks. - Hecubus452, on 06/10/2009, -4/+8It's selling that well because it's really ***** good.
