here is the second one - Fleagleman, on 06/19/2009, -0/+26This, plus Mass Effect 2 coming soon?
BioWare is straight pimpin' - Xaevier, on 06/19/2009, -2/+21Looking forward to the rest of the series, seems like they are keeping Mr Lucas far away from the storyboard so everything seems very solid.
- Vindexus, on 06/19/2009, -0/+13Now I want to play KOTOR again.
- TwistyMcFister, on 06/19/2009, -0/+12it looks fantastic. I hope this game lives up to the hype. would hate to be disappointed by another star wars game.................
- UtopianComplex, on 06/19/2009, -0/+12ummm... A video game with a story cut scene worth watching!?
- zeebo, on 06/19/2009, -0/+10Its been a galactic civilization for thousands of years, they have an aesthetic that they like and they're sticking with it.
- Leminnes, on 06/19/2009, -0/+8This game is going to be so many different kinds of awesome. I hope the gameplay is as good as these trailers have been.

You are no longer irked by this. - cowman80i9, on 06/20/2009, -0/+7I feel like going to Wooikiepedia now
- LoveYouSomeEric, on 06/20/2009, -0/+7Because it's a civilization that is supposed to be tens of thousands of years old. At some point lightsabers and blasters and spaceships are just as good as they are going to get.
- AnalogAssassin, on 06/20/2009, -0/+6It's because it's FICTION. Science fiction, as it were.
- jerryjamesstone, on 06/19/2009, -1/+6Very cool
- TomGfromCanada, on 06/19/2009, -0/+5I LOVE STAR WARS
- ProtoE, on 06/20/2009, -0/+5You're thinking 4,000 years ago from today... but how many technological advancements were there between 10,000 BCE and 6,000 BCE? Hardly revolutionary.
- Riccallo, on 06/20/2009, -0/+5As someone has already said, maybe once you hit a certain level of technology there's not much further you can go?
- raydeen, on 06/20/2009, -0/+5I had a problem with this similarity of tech spanning thousands of years, but it sort of makes sense if you compare it to the Dark Ages where knowledge and technology stagnated for a thousand years or so before taking off again in the 1500 to 1600's with the Renaissance period. I like to consider the time between TOR and the current SW eras as a period of technological stasis due to events or circumstances that kept the Galactic Empire from advancing.
- maxvette, on 06/20/2009, -0/+5You weak minded fool!
He's using an old Jedi mind trick! - y0urcl0ne, on 06/20/2009, -0/+4_Visible_ Technological Advancements.
They were just charting all the hyperspace routes around this time, so journeys between systems were a lot longer. - thrashertm, on 06/19/2009, -0/+4Sounds like it's being narrated by the guy from the Voltron Intro
- GamerXR72, on 06/20/2009, -0/+4@Riccallo
The Rakatan empire would disagree with you. They built things the empire had never heard of. - Soniti, on 06/19/2009, -1/+5Glad there's a second one- the OP video is like 2 months old.
- superkeer, on 06/19/2009, -1/+5The screenshots make me wonder how and why there seems to be so very little in terms of technological advancements in the nearly 4000 years between the Old Republic setting and the events of the films.
- fumbduck, on 06/19/2009, -0/+4hey, wait a minute, isnt that James Remar, Ajax, from The Warriors?
- KyotoWolf, on 06/20/2009, -0/+3http://www.swtor.com/info/holonet/timeline
Here's the original link, any updates and new videos should be here first. - Acqua206, on 06/20/2009, -0/+3Slumper, it's called suspension of disbelief. Employ it and you will find that books and movies are much more enjoyable.
- palehorse864, on 06/19/2009, -0/+3I haven't seen much of the old republic stuff, but isn't a lot of the old technology very similar to the stuff in Anakin/Luke Skywalker era starwars? it never seemed the technology advanced a huge amount in the time between the old republic and the movie Star Wars era.
- KyotoWolf, on 06/20/2009, -0/+3The Rule Of Two didn't exist at the time - Darth Bane created it about 3000 years after Knights Of The Old Republic.
If you want to know more or anything about Star Wars check Wookieepedia, it's strangely addictive reading article after article
http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/ - Fleagleman, on 06/20/2009, -1/+3I brought this up on an older story on Digg when this was announced, and it sparked a debate. I for one still don't get it. When you compare it in terms of mankind's advancement on Earth. 4,000 years and they've basically got the same technology. That's hardly like going from spears to missles and copters with computer targeting systems and night vision.
- ryrocker, on 06/20/2009, -0/+2THIS IS SO BAD ASS!
:D
if this isnt all caps appropriate then idk what is! - Clad, on 06/20/2009, -0/+2Yeah but even the second one is like a month old.
- ryl00, on 06/20/2009, -0/+2Ironically, I just finished KOTOR for the first time ever yesterday (I'm a little behind the times...). Best SW movie since Return of the Jedi. :)
- JigoroKano, on 06/20/2009, -0/+2Civilization had regressed from the Old Republic to the Empire.
There were some technologies that were invented in between. There was nothing as good as an X-wing in the Old Republic. - Kotoyumu, on 06/20/2009, -0/+2From reading the books you can tell that there was alot of technological progression in the Star Wars Universe. Also they have yet to visit other worlds that would bring new technological innovations.
- bpeacock22, on 06/22/2009, -0/+1The fact that Bioware is putting out these trailers and showing me what I wanted to see out of the prequels gives me great confidence that they are building a Star Wars game that will have what I want from it.
- Riccallo, on 06/20/2009, -2/+3I wish they'd stop referring to the Sith Empire as "The Empire" and "The Imperials." I dunno why but it just irks me, in the SW universe these two terms refer to the Galactic Empire, not any of the Sith Empires.
- jman583, on 06/20/2009, -0/+1Weird, yesterday I was holding a Star Wars encyclopedia. I was turning it into a book safe.
- orthodoxDrew, on 06/20/2009, -0/+1damn i hate the sith
- Fleagleman, on 06/22/2009, -0/+1BioWare managed to make a short cinematic trailer that's infinitely better than the prequels could ever be, despite the short runtime....
....ok. That's not saying much. It kicked ass, though. - tomato3017, on 06/21/2009, -0/+1No, but similar.... I realized it was Lance Henriksen from Aliens right away.
- ViscidGobs, on 06/20/2009, -0/+1What is this? Story boards for the next film? At least its a story that makes some sense rather than the debacle of the animated film "Star Wars: The Clone Wars". References to KOTOR and Malak got my spider senses tingling. Maybe Bioware should produce the next film instead of just the game.
- Vindexus, on 06/20/2009, -0/+1How is that ironic?
- Halsfield, on 06/21/2009, -0/+1Biggest problem I have with star wars mmos is that the majority of people will go with a jedi/sith character and the other classes can fall by the wayside. Everyone loves the star wars universe because of jedi/sith and it is hard to resist playing one but I cannot imagine something more boring than playing the same class as 80%+ of the other players. I just hope they either have an extremely variable class tree system so everyone can play very different types of jedi (ala kotor I+II), or the other classes are given something to make them even more enticing (leveling bonuses, higher chances to find better loot(smuggler/etc)) to increase player class diversity.
Other than that issue, this game looks incredible, the world is deep, everything has the bioware touch which pretty much instantly makes it gold, I guess I just have hang-ups from the problems galaxies made very obvious. I'm putting my trust in Bioware to solve these though. - gazboo, on 06/20/2009, -1/+1Is it 'Gay'?
- inactive, on 06/20/2009, -0/+0One of peeves with the episodes 1-3 is that everything looked more advanced than the original triology, even though it took place thirty years earlier.
Sorry, the Dark Ages metaphor is a little weak.A civilization already that advanced doesn't progress an inch in 300 years?
Same with LOTR. A thousand year passes between the ring's creation and it's re-emergence, and nothing has change? What exactly everyone who opposed Sauron was fighting to preserve? They should have let him take over, at least his minions were industrialized. If you're medieval culture can't produce so much as musket in 1000 years, then maybe it's time to get some new blood in office. - KyotoWolf, on 06/20/2009, -1/+1The Infinite Empire was more advanced than both the Old Republic and Galactic Empire, maybe technology advances and regresses over the thousands of years between KoTOR and the films? Things did advance such as hyperdrive systems, for instance the Infinite Empire's hyperdrive was inferior to the ones of the Old Republic and I'm sure the tech advanced further until the films. It seems like there were a lot of technological advances they aren't visible as they weren't necessarily combat techs or were existing techs but miniturised (seems like the most likely reason for the apparent lack of advance)
Or it's just a plot whole in the Star Wars Universe. - Cow194234, on 06/21/2009, -0/+0If this is less like an MMO and more like an RPG with MMO elements I CAN NOT WAIT. Of course I trust Bioware to do the right thing and make this game kick ass
- Acqua206, on 06/20/2009, -1/+1Whatever happened to the rule of 2? Doesn't an empire consisting of a bunch of Sith go against its very doctrine? One who wields the power and the other to covet it?
- LibertyPrime, on 06/20/2009, -0/+0The old republic story line is far better than any crap lucas can come up with. screw episodes one to three and his ***** photoshopping of the original movies.
