*phew* I apologise if I got any of them down incorrectly, there's no way I'm going back through there with the comment box doing its little bobby-dance when I try to type. - Velnich, on 10/24/2008, -0/+26No System Shock 2? Really? At least they had Silent Hill 2.
- vretha, on 10/24/2008, -0/+25Any list without System Shock 2 or Alien vs Predator is a complete farce. The terran marine missions on AVP have to be the most heart pounding thing I have ever experienced outside a real bear trying to get into my tent and who can forgot system shock 2 for its never been beat atmosphere:
Ghost: Not me, no way. They're not gonna get me. They're not gonna change me.
[loads a pistol]
Ghost: Rachel, kids... I'm sorry.
[shoots himself] - dansmeek, on 10/24/2008, -1/+25Bioshock really isn't a horror game. Also.... some of those games at 15+..... IDK.... i mean what about Silent HIll 3. Resident Evil. (or any of the other sequels not already mentioned). Dino Crisis? Cold Fear? The Thing? W T F
- innocentsinner, on 10/24/2008, -5/+27"It wasn't the Splicers, the Big Daddy, or even the gruesome, blood-stained corpses that scared us in BioShock. It was the story of a perfect utopia, and how it could literally sink into the depths of Hell with nothing more than the inherent, natural greed of man."
Talk about pretentious.. - quomen, on 10/24/2008, -0/+19There's no FEAR... That game made me love and hate the late night gaming sessions..
- diggerman32, on 10/24/2008, -0/+16Humans have 23 pairs of chromosomes.
Blood circulates the body on average every 23 seconds.
Astronomy The axis of the planet Earth is 2.3 degrees.
(Must I continue)
2/3 = .666 = devil - Lunarsight, on 10/24/2008, -0/+15What about .. PAC-MAN??
(insert disconcerting music here)
I mean, you're this little yellow mouth that gobbles up pellets, and then you turn a corner, and these ghastly, multi-hued phantasms pop up out of nowhere trying to devour you.
That really traumatized me growing up in the 80s. I developed an irrational fear of any tight corridor that had power pellets in it. It took numerous psychiatric sessions to get me over this. - Torx, on 10/24/2008, -1/+16BLOOD isnt on the list?? wtf
Dead Space should be number 1 - Pyroteq, on 10/24/2008, -0/+14Dead Rising is anything BUT horror. It's comedy.
- oldcrows40, on 10/24/2008, -1/+14Why a list of 23? It's just so........not even.
- Renian, on 10/24/2008, -0/+13Buried for one reason: They said Clive Barker's Jericho was 16th, and then said you should also try Clive Barker's Undying.
No, retard. Undying is 16th; you should NOT try Jericho. Undying was the game Jericho should have been. - Azerael, on 10/24/2008, -0/+12T-this list was written by a p-p-pathetic insect, unable t-to comprehend my magnificence.
- Kinneas12, on 10/24/2008, -0/+10Yet another list with little to no merit.
Someone discovered some time ago that lists are by far the easiest way to get page views. - lafan313, on 10/24/2008, -0/+10Jordan is God.
- dansmeek, on 10/24/2008, -2/+12also just wanted to add:
for some reason, i think yahtzee would be the best person to create this list (it seems like surivival horror games are his favorite). why the hell he hasn't reviewed dead space yet boggles my mind. - joegibes, on 10/24/2008, -0/+9BS, the author jumped every time something was behind him.
- h4mx0r, on 10/24/2008, -0/+9Cold Fear is in my heart.
FEAR needs to replace Doom 3. - eelwrolyat, on 10/24/2008, -3/+11I would vote Resident Evil remake for Game Cube over Resident Evil 4.
- cqdemal, on 10/24/2008, -0/+8Agreed. Omitting SS2 = zero credibility.
- helenkupo, on 10/24/2008, -0/+8Eternal Darkness got me. Those file deleting, game shutting off antics. And that fly on the screen only because you don't register that its there right away and then when you do you do a big WTF?
- ProfessorRamrod, on 10/24/2008, -0/+7No system shock 2 and no clive barker undying....this list fails
- Nazuel, on 10/24/2008, -4/+11This list is terrible. Buried.
- Velnich, on 10/24/2008, -0/+7Odds are the new even.
- kakwakas, on 10/24/2008, -0/+7WTF? Why is RE4 on the top of the list? And why no FEAR or AvP2? Those were great games that scared the bejesus out of me.
- Rosco, on 10/24/2008, -0/+7System Shock 2, Clive Barker's Undying, and the HL mod They Hunger.
- PrismoFillusion, on 10/24/2008, -0/+6Resident Evil 4 wasn't even that scary. Certainly not when compared to the likes of Silent Hill 2. That game seriously ***** me up.
- Sabretou, on 10/24/2008, -0/+6Where the ***** is Clive Barker's Undying?
- Fragnarg, on 10/24/2008, -0/+6Oh The Horror
- djpray2k, on 10/24/2008, -0/+5Dugg for Fatal Frame (Project Zero) Shows that you don't have to have blood and gore to make a fright game. Wonderful direction and an edge of your seat atmosphere.
- Kinneas12, on 10/24/2008, -0/+5This is just a pathetic list with little to no merit. If you make it voting, the popular games win. If the author chooses, only the games (s)he played, and the order is based on their own preference.
- inactive, on 10/24/2008, -0/+5Dugg for The Suffering.
But what about AvP? That was intense experience. I always wondered how'd liquid brown fecal matter float in the spaceship... Then I played AvP and discovered. Peep-Peep-Peep... Poop-Poop-Poop. - Fentekreel, on 10/24/2008, -0/+4I think that would be alone in the dark...
- bilbravo, on 10/24/2008, -0/+4http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/23_(numerology)
- Failchan, on 10/24/2008, -1/+5Pyroteq: It actually came out today alongside Rock Band in Australia and New Zealand. I grabbed a copy a few hours ago, I recommend you do the same!
- cl2yp71c, on 10/24/2008, -0/+4It made me buy a new pair of pants.
- ZombieKiss, on 10/24/2008, -0/+3No Alone in the Dark 1 or 2? System Shock? Sanitarium? Phantasmagoria? ***** list, all next gen or last gen systems.
They need some older gamers working there who know what the classics are. - MrFisty, on 10/24/2008, -0/+37th Guest?
- inactive, on 10/24/2008, -0/+3ever since the first top ten list of ***** you shan't do
- helenkupo, on 10/24/2008, -0/+3or shivers? or phantasmagoria?
- stoneking2312, on 10/24/2008, -0/+3You may hate it for the monster closets and the lack of a flashlight mounted to the guns. But I've never been more freaked out during a video game then when playing Doom 3.
Also FEAR, while it was a higher quality game, only had 2-3 parts that actually made me jump. - Velnich, on 10/24/2008, -0/+3I think Bioshock stole SS2's spot. Bioshock was great. No argument there. SS2 was scarier though.
- skin, on 10/24/2008, -1/+4"Best horror-themed games," not "scariest horror-themed games."
- Renian, on 10/24/2008, -0/+3Digg does not.
- BentSea, on 10/24/2008, -0/+3Still possibly the best horror game ever.
- DeadBabySoup, on 10/24/2008, -0/+3Dead Space and RE4 need to switch places...Loved playing The Suffering. RE2 will always have a special place in my game collection just for the story alone, and getting to play as Hunk, rocket launchers ::sigh:: it was a fun ride...
- Fentekreel, on 10/24/2008, -0/+3yeah doom 3 was an awful game.
- chewbacca77, on 10/24/2008, -0/+3At least its mentioned under BioShock.
- heresy_fnord, on 10/24/2008, -0/+2I haven't played Jericho but I think Clive Barker's Undying would have been a better pick. And yeah it's really old I know.
